2007 Land rover Range rover sport problems

land rover logo

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

Common 2007 Land rover Range rover sport problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2007 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, several common problems have been reported:

  • Fuel System Issues: The 2017 model faced a recall due to defective fuel gauges and engine management software problems. Faulty gauges may display incorrect fuel levels, and the engine may shut down intermittently, risking power brake assistance failure and potential crashes. Land Rover offers free repairs for affected vehicles.
  • Door Lock Problems: A significant issue involved door lock malfunctions, leading to a recall of over 65,000 SUVs in 2019. Some 2014-2016 models had keyless vehicle latching system failures, causing doors to appear locked when they weren't, potentially opening while the vehicle was in motion. Land Rover provides free inspections and necessary repairs, including software updates.
  • Loss of Power: Commonly reported on the 2.7 TDV6 and 3.6 TDV8 models, loss of power can result from air boost pressure loss, affecting the air-fuel mixture and performance. This issue often triggers restricted performance mode and can be linked to faulty hoses in the intercooler system, necessitating replacements.
  • EGR Valve Problems: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve issues can lead to symptoms like heavy black smoke, loss of power, poor running, and high fuel consumption. Soot buildup can hinder valve operation, requiring diagnostic checks and potential replacement of faulty valves.
  • Hand Brake Concerns: Owners have reported loud screeching noises or handbrake failure to release properly. These issues can stem from collapsing handbrake shoes, causing jamming or mechanical breakage. In severe cases, damage to the discs may occur, necessitating replacements.

These problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any signs of malfunction to ensure the optimal performance and safety of the 2007 Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-02-19
  • Number Of Injuries: 3
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: SALMF15427A
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 25MPH ON A CITY STREET AND BEGAN TO BRAKE GENTLY AS I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT THE TIME I BEGAN BRAKING WAS OVER 3-CARS-LENGTH, BUT NOT MORE THAN 4. THIS WAS NOT AN ABRUPT STOP. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE I COULD FEEL IT BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND THE CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I PRESSED THE BRAKE MORE FIRMLY AND WHILE IT DID RESPOND MORE SO THAN BEFORE, THE CAR WAS BY NO MEANS SLOWING DOWN AT A FAST ENOUGH RATE CONSIDERING HOW LONG I HAD BEEN APPLYING THE BRAKE AND THE FACT THAT I WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT 25MPH TO BEGIN WITH. I FELT A PULSATING THAT BECAME INCREASINGLY PRONOUNCED AND EVENTUALLY THE BRAKE FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS LOCKED IN PLACE AND UNRESPONSIVE TO MY APPLICATION OF FURTHER PRESSURE. THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN BUT IT WAS NOT DOING SO AT THE NORMAL RATE. IT WOULD HAVE LIKELY REQUIRED 2-3 TIMES THE NORMAL DISTANCE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. HOWEVER, THE BRAKES WERE TOO INEFFECTIVE TO HAVE REASONABLY ANTICIPATED (BY A LONG SHOT) AND I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME THAT HAD COME TO NEARLY A COMPLETE STOP AT THAT POINT. AT THE TIME OF IMPACT MY CAR HAD ONLY SLOWED DOWN BY AT THE MOST 70%. BOTH MY CAR AND THE CAR I REAR ENDED WERE TOTALED. AT NO TIME PRIOR TO OR UPON IMPACT DID ANY WARNING LIGHT OR INDICATOR APPEAR ON THE CAR. NOTHING FOREWARNED ME THAT MY BRAKES WERE AT ALL COMPROMISED. THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND DMV RECORDS WILL SHOW ALL OF THAT INFO. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC IF NOT INVESTIGATED. RANGE ROVERS ARE EXTREMELY HEAVY VEHICLES WHICH MAKES A BREAKING SYSTEM FAILURE EVEN MORE DANGEROUS THAN IT ALREADY IS. LAND ROVER HAS DENIED ANY DEFECTS OR OTHER MANUFACTURER FAULTS. I WAS INJURED WITH PERMANENT NECK PAIN LIKELY AS A RESULT OF THE AIRBAGS FAILURE TO DEPLOY. AND THE PASSENGERS IN THE IMPACTED VEHICLE SUSTAINED NOTABLE INJURIES AS WELL.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-07-29
  • VIN: SALMF13467A
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: TAKATA RECALL. THIS CAR IS KEPT IN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, WHERE THERE ARE LARGE FLUCTUATIONS OF TEMPERATURE AND PERIODS OF HIGH HUMIDITY IN BOTH SUMMER AND WINTER. THE CAR IS TEN YEARS OLD. THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF NEW, NON-DEFECTIVE AIRBAG KEEPS GETTING PUSHED BACK. THE LATEST IS "MAYBE THIS YEAR" (PER RANGE ROVER REPRESENTATIVE KATHLEEN VACCARRO, 201 818 8080). WHEN PRESSED, VACCARRO CONCEDES THAT WHAT IT BOILS DOWN TO IS THAT RANGE ROVER HAS MADE THE JUDGMENT THAT IT IS OK FOR ITS CUSTOMERS TO BE DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN PRESSED, SHE CONCEDES (AS ANYONE HAS TO CONCEDE) THAT NO-ONE KNOWS THE POINT AT WHICH THE INFLATOR WILL HAVE DEGRADED AND WILL EXPLODE. IF I WANTED TO GO SKYDIVING AND TRUST THAT THE PARACHUTE USUALLY OPENS, THEN THAT IS MY DECISION. WHAT RANGE ROVER IS DOING IS MAKING THAT DECISION FOR ME, AGAINST MY WILL. WHAT IS NHTSA DOING ABOUT THIS? THIS APPEARS TO BE ABOUT MONEY. HOWEVER, "MONEY" IS NOT IN YOUR NAME. "SAFETY" IS IN YOUR NAME. SO WHERE IS THE SAFETY?

SUSPENSION,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-02-26
  • VIN: SALMF15447A
  • Components: SUSPENSION,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS ABNORMALLY CLOSER TO THE GROUND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE COMPRESSOR KIT, THE MACPHERSON STRUT, AND THE RADIATOR TANK WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AFTER THE INITIAL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE PARTS THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED WERE DEFECTIVE AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER. AS A RESULT, THE ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FAILED TO OPERATE. ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-01-14
  • VIN: SALMF15497A
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO I STARTED THE SUV AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE TO A NEAR BY STORE. AFTER PULLING OUT OF MY SMALL SUBDIVISION, I NOTICED THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND WAS MAKING AN AWFUL METAL-TICKING TYPE SOUND (LIKE METAL-ON-METAL). I THEN NOTICED SMOKE POURING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I COULD NOT SEE WHAT COLOR IT WAS SINCE IT WAS DARK OUT. I THEN IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND, DROVE HOME, AND TURNED THE CAR OF. TOTAL TRIP TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES, TOTAL DISTANCE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE. WHEN I GOT HOME AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR, I NOTICED A DARK LIQUID POURING OUT OF THE BOTTOM-CENTER PART OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I ALSO SAW A TRAIL OF DARK LIQUID FROM MY DRIVE HOME UPON RE-ENTERING MY SUBDIVISION. THE NEXT DAY, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LAST INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP THAT WORKED ON THE CAR (IN CASE IT WAS THEIR FAULT), AND WHEN THE CAR WAS HOISTED ONTO THE FLAT-BED, TONS OF OIL POURED OUT FROM THAT SAME AREA, IN THE BOTTOM-CENTER REGION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN THE MECHANICS GOT AROUND TO INSPECTING THE CAR, THEY SAID THAT A CONNECTING ROD HAD BROKEN INSIDE THE MOTOR AND PUNCHED A HOLE THROUGH THE BOTTOM-SIDE OF THE BLOCK, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY I HEARD THAT METAL-TICKING NOISE AND ALSO WHY LIQUID, OR MOTOR OIL, BEGAN SPILLING OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. THE MECHANICS SAID THAT THIS TYPE OF ISSUE COULD BE CAUSE BY NOT HAVING ENOUGH OIL IN THE MOTOR AND CAN ALSO BE DUE TO THE ENGINE'S AGE. THEY INSISTED THAT, THOUGH IT'S VERY ODD THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED LESS THAN 800 MILES AFTER THEY CHANGED THE OIL, THEY WERE EXTREMELY THOROUGH AND CAREFUL, AND EXPLAINED TO ME THEIR OIL CHANGING PROCEDURES, WHICH WAS MORE COMPLEX THAN I WOULD HAVE IMAGINED (REMOVING OLD OIL AND FILTER, ADDING NEW OIL AND FILTER, STARTING CAR TO WARM UP, DRIVING CAR, CHECKING OIL LEVEL AGAIN, ETC.). *TR

SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2007-01-12
  • VIN: SALSH23427A
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: LAND ROVER'S RANGE ROVER SPORT SUPERCHARGED WAS DESIGNED WITH A HYDRAULIC SUSPSENSION SYSTEM THAT BREAKS DOWN AFTER OR AROUND JUST 1000 MILES. AFTER A CUSTOMER HAS PURCHASED A NEW SPORT FROM LAND ROVER, LAND ROVER IS STIFFING ALL OF IT'S CUSTOMERS WITH THESE CARS AND CALLING THE KNOCKING AND CLUNKING "NORMAL". THIS IS TOTALLY AND UTTERLY OFFENSIVE, I HAVE ALREADY LEMON LAWED MY FIRST 2006 SPORT. OUT OF GOOD WILL AND APPRECIATION FOR THE BRAND, I PURCHASED A 2007 SPORT SUPERCHARGED THE VERY SAME DAY I TURNED IN MY 2006 IN HOPES THAT THEY HAD CORRECTED THE ISSUE AND/OR MY ISSUE WITH MY 2006 WAS JUST A FLUKE. I WAS WRONG, LAND ROVER HAS GIVEN MY ATTORNEY AND I THE COLD SHOULDER, THEY HAVE SPECIFICALLY TOLD MY LOCAL REPAIR CENTER NOT TO REPAIR MY CAR!!! I AM DISGUSTED BY THIS COMPANIES BUSINESS AND CUSTOMER RELATIONS PRACTICES AND AM LOOKING INTO FILING A JOINT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST LAND ROVER. THE PARTS OF THE CAR THAT ARE DEFECTIVE ARE CALLED THE DYNAMIC RESPONSE SYSTEM. MY 2007 SPORT HAD IT'S ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM REPLACED AT JUST 3 WEEKS AFTER OWNERSHIP AT 1000 MILES YET IT STILL CONTINUES TO GIVE ME TROUBLE. I HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR FOR 13 MONTHS AND LAND ROVER HAS MADE TO EFFORT TO DO RIGHT BY ONE OF THEIR YOUNG AND LOYAL CUSTOMERS. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA BECAUSE THIS CAR DOES NOT SOUND OR FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN A HIGHWAY SPEED ACCIDENT WHEN I WAS MUCH YOUNGER AND DO NOT WANT TO RISK EVER HAVING TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN. I HAVE EMAILED LAND ROVER CLIPS OF MY CAR MAKING THE LOUND CLUNKING NOISE, I HAVE ALSO DEMONSTRATED THE CLUNKING TO A LAND ROVER REPRESENTATIVE. LAND ROVER HAS DECIDED THAT A RECALL WOULD COST THEM TOO MUCH MONEY AND ARE STIFFING THEIR CUSTOMERS WHO SHELL OUT CLOSE TO $100K FOR THIS CAR. *CN

Negative 2007 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Adrain Mante 2024-10-20

I bought my RR Sport brand new in April 2006. Unfortunately, I have had to take it in for service several times due to major issues. It has been towed 3-4 times and I have experienced 5-6 major service problems. If you are considering purchasing a RR Sport, it is important to be aware that you may need to trade it in after the warranty expires. As someone who has been driving for 30 years and owned several different vehicles, both domestic and foreign, I can say that I have never encountered problems like those I have experienced with the Range Rover Sport. I wish I had listened to the warnings I received before purchasing it.

  2. Dameon Turcotte 2024-10-01

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my vehicle. I live and work in Washington DC and my 33-month-old vehicle has only 27,000 miles on it. While it's a great vehicle for getting around, I did have some trouble during the winter with three major snowstorms. Unfortunately, I had to be pushed out of the snow three times, which was a bit of a hassle. Additionally, I've noticed that the acceleration is a bit underpowered and it burns through gas pretty quickly. However, overall it's a reliable vehicle. I have noticed that both the front and rear brakes need replacement after 20,000 miles, which unfortunately isn't covered under warranty. I also need to get a realignment about every 7-8k miles, which is also not covered under warranty. Lastly, while the interior is nice, I have noticed that the displays are a bit small and difficult to read. The green backlite is also not my favorite, and the mahogany console trim is a bit uneven. However, I'm still happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others. Thanks for listening!

  3. Wallace Abernathy 2024-09-21

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my new car. I bought it 2 weeks ago and unfortunately, the stereo and navigation system have been acting up. It's been in the shop for the last week and the service people are still trying to figure out the problem. I'm a bit disappointed, especially since I've always owned BMW's, but I'm hopeful that they'll be able to fix it soon. If you're considering buying this car, I would suggest waiting a year to let them work out any kinks. Since it's a new model, they're still trying to fix problems as they arise. Thanks for listening!

  4. Shaun Schowalter 2024-09-16

I have owned the vehicle for a year and driven approximately 20k miles. Despite having taken it to the shop 8 times for various issues, some of which still remain, I have not been successful in getting the vehicle replaced or purchased to get out of this nightmare. The vehicle has had problems with brakes, parking sensors, suspension, sway bars, tires, power mirrors, starting, transmission sensor, engine lights, rattles, and more. Based on my experience, I have decided that I will not be owning another Range Rover in the future.

Leasing this car was a big mistake. The acceleration is poor, and the car feels sluggish. On top of that, I have to change the brakes every 10K miles, which costs $600 each time. The rear hood is also a bit of a pain. Overall, I would say that the price/quality combination is not great. My advice would be to think twice before leasing this car.

This is the best car I've ever owned! I've had 6 of the largest Range Rovers and switched for fun, but this one takes the cake. It's a ball and everything it's advertised as. What a great car!

A car or SUV can always say it does something better than some other vehicle. However, what makes a car great is a collection of hits or misses, and the Range Rover Sport Supercharged has more hits than misses. This SUV is amazing to drive along winding mountain roads. Power is always available when you need it, and the brakes are better than almost every other car out there. This thing stops faster than my friend's Mazda 3 compact car!

The RRS is a luxury off-road vehicle that performs exceptionally well on the road. However, it truly shines when faced with challenging weather conditions or rough terrain. I have been able to explore areas of my property that were previously inaccessible thanks to the RRS. The interior is both ergonomic and beautifully designed, with well-functioning subsystems. Any complaints I have heard seem to come from those who did not take the time to read the manual(s). While I appreciate the 'bling' factor, I would advise against using the 20

Hi there! I noticed that my truck seems to drag between gears when the RPM is at 2000 and the speed is 70 mph or greater. It's a repeatable problem, and when I took it to the shop, they gave me a loaner that did the same thing. Overall, I really like the car, but it seems like the transmission needs some work. I must say, though, that the service was really good and the car looks great!

I bought the Range Rover Sport because I wanted something unique. Although I was originally considering a luxury sport sedan, I fell in love with the sleek and sexy exterior of the Range. The interior is also impressive, making you feel like you are part of the car. However, I was hesitant to purchase it due to Land Rover's past reliability issues. The dealer assured me that those days were over, but I did experience some suspension lights coming on within a week of my purchase. Fortunately, it was fixed quickly and I haven't had any issues since. Overall, this car really stands out and turns heads wherever I go.
