The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

Summary: The contact owns a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine, coolant, and oil warning lights simultaneously flashed on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that the vehicle had failed to start after several attempts. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where the mechanic linked the failure to the engine cam carrier listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V044000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was unknown.

Summary: leaking coolant onto the Turbocharger. My coolant light has been coming on often for the past year or so. A month after I top off coolant my Warnings light indicates low coolant. I’ve been to Land Rover Range Rover multiple times with this issue, I was told there is no issue and they top it off and tell me it’s good to go, a month later same issue. I’ve noticed there has been a recall on this matter for 2019-2021 Land Rover Ranger Rover PHEV but not on Range Rover sport 2021 even though there has been many complaints about this. I went in today and I was not talking no for an answer and finally they check and as I had suspected coolant is leaking onto turbocharger. I will attach a photo that the technician from Jaguar Land Rover Fort Lauderdale has uploaded to the Service Status Tracker link, there you will see that it is the same issue that the recall was on for Land Rover Range Rover sport PHEV vehicles Recall no. 23V221000. They have not added my specific Range Rover Sport to the recall.

Summary: Door latch is not locking door in place, yes it is available for inspection. Our safety is at risk due to the door will always be open and it is unlatched if driven. There is a potential hazard to other vehicles on streets and the highway due to this problem. Contacted dealer in San Antonio Texas to report the problem they indicated no recalls and they did not seem interested in the matter. The problem has not been confirmed by the dealer. Summary: I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. Summary: Less than 2 hours before my car completely shut down while driving, I received an error message stating "Stop safely. Electrical fault detected." I immediately reached out to the service department who told they didn't think the car would have any additional issues and that I should bring it to the shop on Monday (the incident happened on Saturday). While driving down an entrance ramp to a major highway, my car shut completely off leaving me with no steering, brakes, emergency brakes, hazards or anything--completely dead to the point where absolutely nothing worked. I had to do my best to steer a dead car down an entrance ramp and onto a grassy area on the side of the highway as to avoid being hit by another vehicle or crashing into a vehicle or tree. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk because the car completely shut down leaving no emergency equipment for me to use. I had cars behind me, in front of me, and beside me on a busy highway with a speed limit of 70 mph. I was also going down a ramp with no brakes. At first I thought it was the battery as did the dealership, then they suspected the generator, then they said it was the converter. They were able to produce the same problem after the generator was replaced and the car only ran for 15 minutes. Unfortunately we sold the car within 2 weeks of the incident because we no longer felt safe, and the manufacturer has been replacing one part at a time with the most important part being on back order with no indication of when it will arrive.

Summary: The contact owns a 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a fuel odor around the exterior of the vehicle. In addition, the contact noticed the fuel odor on the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a fractured gasoline fuel tank flange assembly and that the gasoline fuel tank flange assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated that due to health issues, the vehicle was parked for a while; however, recently the vehicle was taken for a smog test. The vehicle failed the smog test due to fuel odor and the check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, however the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a fractured fuel tank flange assembly and that the fuel tank flange assembly needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the recall repair for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V635000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) was not completed when performed on 03/2022 by the previous dealer. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 39,554.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention a couple of issues I've been experiencing with my vehicle. Specifically, I've had to go back to the service department three times in the past month due to a wheel alignment and computer problem. Additionally, the gas tank consistently shows as empty despite being full. I'm feeling a bit frustrated with the service I've received at the dealership and am considering pulling out of the contract. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Vehicle year: 2022

This is a nice vehicle to look at and sit inside, but as you drive it more, you may realize it has some shortcomings. Unfortunately, I had some issues that you should not have with any new vehicle. However, I must say that the dealer service could use some improvement. The electronics in the vehicle are a bit outdated, and the navigation voice system rarely works. The controls configuration and operations could be more user-friendly. I had an issue from the factory where I had to have the entire infotainment system replaced, but the dealer service took about a week for almost any service. When I purchased the vehicle, I noticed a lot of vehicles behind the service center and was told they were waiting on parts or pickup. Now I know it is a combination of lack of techs, parts, and overall, a high volume of issues with the vehicles. Despite these issues, it is a beautiful and powerful vehicle. Range Rover needs to focus on vehicle quality and customer experience to improve their overall product.

I wanted to wait before writing a review. Now that I've had some time with it, I can say that I've had some issues with this $90,000 vehicle. Unfortunately, the electronics and software don't seem to be perfected yet. Despite its awesome looks, it's not the most reliable car you can purchase. From the day I pulled it out of the dealership's driveway, I've had some problems. The first problem was a computer issue where the keys wouldn't respond to lock/unlock the doors. It took 12 days to figure out what was causing the problem. The second problem was the water pump breaking after only a little over 1,000 miles. It took another 10 days for the parts to arrive since they come from Great Britain. The third visit to the shop was for a regular service call, but when I thought the car was ready, the engine light was lit. It took a few more days before I was able to take it home. The fourth visit was for a water leak inside the vehicle (driver's side and seat behind driver) and a service was due. The vehicle was kept in the shop for over a week, and unfortunately, loaners were not available. After paying over $1000 in service, the leak was fixed, which I was told was an air conditioning fault. I took the car home, and after a short time, the engine light came on, and the passenger's A/C was blowing hot air. I'm disappointed to own this expensive car, and I know I won't be keeping it for very long. My advice to anyone contemplating purchasing one is to take your money somewhere else.

While Land Rover vehicles are known for their stunning appearance, my personal experience with the Range Rover Sport has been disappointing. I have encountered several issues with the electrical system, fuel sensors, and door locks, which have required costly repairs. Despite my frustration, I have decided to move on from this vehicle and explore other options. After careful consideration, I have decided to purchase a hybrid Lexus SUV, which is not only more reliable but also more affordable. It is important to make an informed decision when investing in a vehicle, and I believe that there are better options available than the Range Rover Sport.

Despite our initial skepticism due to the endless horror stories about the poor quality of this SUV and the high cost of repairs, we decided to purchase it. Unfortunately, we experienced several issues such as the windshield wiper motor breaking, door panels falling off, and problems with the instrument panel and AC, all before reaching 30,000 miles. The real issue came when the brake system completely fell apart at around 30,000 miles, and we were told by the mechanics that this was normal. To make matters worse, Land Rover uses ceramic rotors that cannot be cut and must be replaced with all new pads, costing around $2000 plus tax for brakes alone. We have decided that we will not be purchasing a Land Rover again. It is disappointing to see a company producing unsafe SUVs that fall apart and then charging exorbitant prices for repairs.

This is a fantastic SUV that's a joy to drive. While it may be a bit thirsty for fuel, averaging about 16.5, it's a very well-built machine that performs exceptionally well in sport mode, and even better in the well-positioned manual mode. I've driven several vehicles in manual mode, and this one is the easiest and most thoughtful of them all, even beating out vehicles with paddle shifters. The interior is classy, and with the real wood trim, it looks great. With the weight of this vehicle, be prepared to replace brakes every 30k or so, depending on driving habits. The brakes will run about $1,400 at the dealership. The only issue I've had is with the rear tailgate struts, but overall, it's a great Sport UV. Best regards, JG

Edmunds sent me a friendly email asking for an update on my 16' RRS and I thought, why not? Although I traded the RRS in after 14 months and 17k miles, I must say that I loved the RRS. It had incredible performance, handled great, and the gas mileage was 21. The seating was great and comfortable, the Meridian sound was spectacular, and generally speaking, it was a joy to drive in all types of weather. On longer road trips, the RRS was very comfortable. I have a son in college 500 miles away (round trip) who played football, so 10 times (over 2 fall seasons) we did the trip - it was the best ride and the RRS loved to settle in at about 78mph; quiet as a church mouse and stuck to the road like a bad reputation. Quite an amazing vehicle! It's literally 5/5 in all categories, with the exception of the infotainment system. It's about 5 years behind leading competitors like Audi. Fortunately, I predominantly use my iPhone for music and GPS, so it's not a huge problem for me. The 510 hp is absolutely insane! I highly recommend this to anyone who can afford it.

This is my first Ranger Rover supercharged V8. It's an awesome, super smooth, and powerful SUV. I've owned many fine cars and SUVs, but nothing compares to this V8 Supercharged monster. I would definitely consider upgrading to a full-size long wheelbase Range Autobiography in the future. I don't think I could go back to a US or German-made SUV again.

Although I initially had some concerns after reading reviews about the RR Sport, my experience has been nothing but positive. While I did have an issue with a faulty battery cell in the first week, once it was replaced, the car has been a dream come true. I opted for black on black with contrast stitching, which looks beautiful, and the driving experience is fantastic. The seating position is incredibly comfortable, and the car has great power. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone considering it. It looks great both inside and out, and I have had nothing but fun driving it since the battery issue was resolved. You deserve to treat yourself to this car!
