The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

    • Lack of appropriate lubrication leading to issues in transferring power from the engine to the transmission and wheels.
    • Regular oil checks and maintenance by a mechanic can help prevent differential problems.
  6. Defective Air Suspensions:
    • Yellow light on the dashboard signaling air suspension fault, causing the vehicle to lower to normal height.
    • Burst air springs unable to support the vehicle's weight, leading to uneven corners.
    • Diagnostic check by a mechanic is necessary to identify and resolve the root cause of this issue.
  7. Parking Brake Issues:

I’ve been to Land Rover Range Rover multiple times with this issue, I was told there is no issue and they top it off and tell me it’s good to go, a month later same issue. I’ve noticed there has been a recall on this matter for 2019-2021 Land Rover Ranger Rover PHEV but not on Range Rover sport 2021 even though there has been many complaints about this. I went in today and I was not talking no for an answer and finally they check and as I had suspected coolant is leaking onto turbocharger. I will attach a photo that the technician from Jaguar Land Rover Fort Lauderdale has uploaded to the Service Status Tracker link, there you will see that it is the same issue that the recall was on for Land Rover Range Rover sport PHEV vehicles Recall no. 23V221000. Land rover Range rover sport 2009
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-20
  • Date Complaint: 2024-06-21
  • VIN: SALSK25419A
  • Components: TIRES
  • Summary: I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-11
  • Date Complaint: 2024-05-27
  • VIN: SAL1L9FU9PA
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: Less than 2 hours before my car completely shut down while driving, I received an error message stating "Stop safely. Electrical fault detected." I immediately reached out to the service department who told they didn't think the car would have any additional issues and that I should bring it to the shop on Monday (the incident happened on Saturday). While driving down an entrance ramp to a major highway, my car shut completely off leaving me with no steering, brakes, emergency brakes, hazards or anything--completely dead to the point where absolutely nothing worked. I had to do my best to steer a dead car down an entrance ramp and onto a grassy area on the side of the highway as to avoid being hit by another vehicle or crashing into a vehicle or tree. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk because the car completely shut down leaving no emergency equipment for me to use. I had cars behind me, in front of me, and beside me on a busy highway with a speed limit of 70 mph. I was also going down a ramp with no brakes. At first I thought it was the battery as did the dealership, then they suspected the generator, then they said it was the converter. They were able to produce the same problem after the generator was replaced and the car only ran for 15 minutes. Unfortunately we sold the car within 2 weeks of the incident because we no longer felt safe, and the manufacturer has been replacing one part at a time with the most important part being on back order with no indication of when it will arrive.

  • Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with a Surround Camera System. Water may enter into the rearview camera, which can cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display or display a distorted image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
  • Consequence: A rearview camera image that does not display can decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rearview camera for damage. If no damage is found, the camera will be fitted with a new seal. If damage is found, the camera will be replaced and calibrated. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 18, 2024. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N901. These vehicles were previously recalled under 24V-023 for this same issue and will need to have the new remedy completed.

Looking for an SUV PHEV that works? The Range Rover Sport may not be the best choice. While it looks beautiful and luxurious, driving it can be a bit of a letdown. The plug-in hybrid P400E model claims to have a 'full electric' drive setting, but in reality, it rarely operates under full electric power. Land Rover has explained that the car has 'certain algorithms' that force it into gas engine mode, which can be frustrating for drivers. The Sport's two center information panels can also be unreliable, turning off at will and taking a while to respond. Other issues include inconsistent throttle response, occasional parking brake activation, and difficulty releasing the electric plug. If you're set on the Range Rover brand, consider a different model, as other drivers have reported similar electronic issues with the Sport. Otherwise, we recommend trying the Volvo SUV PHEV instead.

The SUV is undoubtedly the best looking in its class. However, it is unfortunate that Land Rover has not yet addressed its mechanical issues. It can be frustrating when you reach 25000 miles and the dealer informs you that you need new brakes all around. Unfortunately, neither the dealer nor Land Rover is willing to assist, as they claim this is normal wear and tear. I understand how frustrating this can be.

I would like to share my experience with my 2018 Range Rover supercharge that I special ordered from Land Rover Houston, North. Although there were some delays, I finally received the car in March. Unfortunately, I have had to take the car to the shop a total of 6 times since then. This is my 6th Rover and I am familiar with the brand, but there seems to be something wrong with this year's model. The service department, led by Jason Baisden, has been cooperative, but the issues have continued to happen. While my car was being serviced, I was provided with a fancy Discovery loaner. Although the experience has been frustrating, I appreciate the efforts of the service team. The manufacturer has a new software update coming out soon, and I have been asked to bring the car back for another update. I hope this will resolve the issues. I am still a fan of the brand and I am excited to share that the dealer agreed to buy my car back and I have ordered a 2019 version of the same car which arrived in December 2018. Thank you, Land Rover Houston, North, for your cooperation and for resolving the issue. As of this writing in March, the new car has only been in the shop once due to a factory recall, which they took care of in one day. I am thrilled to say that this is my 8th RR and I couldn't be happier with it. I can't wait to see what the next one will bring!

Hello! I purchased my 2011 RRS HSE in mid-December last year and have only driven 5K+ miles as of writing this review. Unfortunately, I have experienced some trouble with it. Firstly, the rubber seal on top of the windshield came off and scratched the roof while I was driving. This was unexpected for a car that costs 60K. Additionally, at only 2K miles, the car flashed a parking brake fault while I was driving on the freeway, which prompted me to find the nearest spot to stop. The Encino dealer updated the electronic programming of the vehicle, but the issue has occurred twice since then. I would advise against purchasing this car. Thank you for reading!

Hi there! I live in the beautiful region of Samana, Dominican Republic, which is known for its stunning mountains and scenic dirt roads. Over the years, I've owned a Toyota diesel Prado, a Volkswagen Touareg diesel, a BMW x6 diesel, and now a LR SS. I made the switch to the LR because the X6 wasn't suitable for the sandy roads here in Samana. I bought my LR new in September 2010, model 2011, and even changed the tires to better suit the roads here. It's a very comfortable car with sufficient power for all my needs. While it may not be the best for off-roading, it's perfect for my daily use. However, I have had some maintenance issues, including having to change the suspension system and connections twice, which can be quite a hassle. Unfortunately, these issues arose after the guarantee period, at 51,000 km. Overall, I'm still happy with my LR and enjoy driving it around this beautiful region.

I recently purchased a supercharged RRS that came fully loaded, including features such as factory DVD and adaptive cruise control. Although I wasn't particularly interested in these options, I have found that the adaptive cruise control has made my interstate trips much more enjoyable. However, I was disappointed to find out that the factory DVD system requires wired headphones, which were not included with the vehicle that cost over $70k. The SUV's transmission downshifts around town, which has had an impact on its gas mileage. While the seats are adjustable, they are still a little too firm for my liking. On the plus side, the acceleration and exhaust note are fantastic, and I have received many compliments on the vehicle's appearance, particularly the red color and 20-inch wheels. Even my wife loves it!

I picked up my car in July and I absolutely love the interior! Although, I do agree that the refrigerator needs to go. The supercharged engine provides an awesome driving experience. So far, I haven't experienced any faults with the car, but I did notice a defect in the wood grain that runs along the left of the center console. It's quite noticeable, but the dealer agreed to replace that part. My car is metallic black with black upgraded leather package seats and ebony stitching (piano black wood). I also added high quality suede to the headliner, which made a huge difference in the interior ambiance. Overall, I highly recommend this car to anyone. The Style 7 20'' wheels are a great addition to the ride!

The RRS is a luxury off-road vehicle that performs exceptionally well on the road. However, it truly shines when faced with challenging weather conditions or rough terrain. I have been able to explore areas of my property that were previously inaccessible thanks to the RRS. The interior is both ergonomic and beautifully designed, with well-functioning subsystems. Any complaints I have heard seem to come from those who did not take the time to read the manual(s). While I appreciate the 'bling' factor, I would advise against using the 20

Firstly, let me start by saying that my RRSS (Range Rover Sport Supercharged) is an exceptional vehicle when it is working perfectly. However, maintaining it at 100% is a bit of a challenge. Although there are some minor issues like the rain sensing wipers not working properly and the door locks being a bit temperamental, I tend to overlook them as part of the charm of owning a British car. On the other hand, there are some more serious issues like the satellite radio not functioning (cost to fix $700), a suspension airbag leak causing a compressor failure (cost to fix $1600), and the recent supercharger snout bearing and PCV issues (cost to fix over $2600). I do wonder why JLR designed an engine where the PCV valve is built into the cam cover and takes about 13 hours to remove and replace due to the supercharger needing to come out. It would have been much better if they had designed a replaceable and easy-to-access PCV valve like other manufacturers. Despite these challenges, when my RRSS is running smoothly, I can confidently drive it on any road, keep up with the Corvettes, and carry a ton of stuff, all while enjoying the finest of English interiors. If you are looking for a reliable but less exciting vehicle that can do what the RRSS does, I would recommend the Lexus LX. However, if you are looking for a thrilling ride that may require some extra maintenance, then the RRSS is the perfect choice for you. I have been enjoying this vehicle for over 75000 miles, and although it has been a bit of a challenge, it has been worth it!

The RRS diesel has been a joy to drive so far. The ride is very comfortable and the seating is also quite comfortable. The diesel engine provides excellent fuel mileage and range, along with good acceleration and torque. While the electronics could use some improvement, the overall experience has been positive. It's disappointing that Land Rover would include such a primitive infotainment system in an $80,000 car. However, the fuel mileage that the diesel provides is still a major plus. The ride, handling, and comfort are all excellent. The cost of service visits is quite high, but that's to be expected with a luxury vehicle. It's possible that the nav/entertainment system has been updated for 2017.
