The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

    • Lack of appropriate lubrication leading to issues in transferring power from the engine to the transmission and wheels.
    • Regular oil checks and maintenance by a mechanic can help prevent differential problems.
  6. Defective Air Suspensions:
    • Yellow light on the dashboard signaling air suspension fault, causing the vehicle to lower to normal height.
    • Burst air springs unable to support the vehicle's weight, leading to uneven corners.
    • Diagnostic check by a mechanic is necessary to identify and resolve the root cause of this issue.
  7. Parking Brake Issues:

I’ve been to Land Rover Range Rover multiple times with this issue, I was told there is no issue and they top it off and tell me it’s good to go, a month later same issue. I went in today and I was not talking no for an answer and finally they check and as I had suspected coolant is leaking onto turbocharger. I will attach a photo that the technician from Jaguar Land Rover Fort Lauderdale has uploaded to the Service Status Tracker link, there you will see that it is the same issue that the recall was on for Land Rover Range Rover sport PHEV vehicles Recall no. 23V221000. Land rover Range rover sport 2009
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-20
  • Date Complaint: 2024-06-21
  • VIN: SALSK25419A
  • Components: TIRES
  • Summary: I purchased four Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra tires (255 / 50R 19 107 W XL front and back) from Costco at 2700 Potomac Mill Circle, Woodbridge, VA on [XXX]. These tires were specifically for a 2009 Range Rover Sport HSE. The odometer reading was 105632 at the time of purchase, and the tires were installed on [XXX]. The present mileage as of today is 118233. However, after a mere 12,000 miles, all four tires are cracked along the bead inside the tire, showing the threads/wire. The tires are all torn in the sidewall at the bead above the inside of the rim edge and are non-repairable. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. The tire failure appeared to have occurred without provocation, and Costco had just conducted maintenance in April 2024. The tires have an 80,000-mile warranty, so I wonder how all four tires have the same issue on the inside of the tire after only 12,000-mileage has been recorded; it has been only two years. If the tires had failed while driving, this could have been catastrophic for me and my family, which could have ended up in the vehicle losing control and possibly loss of life since all four tires are damaged. The only driving is taking my son to school and driving in the local area for food. I had a tire inspection done with Cosco Tire in April 2024, and Firestone identified this issue during a wheel alignment on all four tires in June 2024. I took the vehicle to NTB and had a mechanic look at it, and the only conclusion they stated was that these were defective tires. This could have been an improper service by Costco, which they said was not there back in April 2024. The only warnings I had were the illuminated lamp of the TPMS, the tire pressure monitoring system, and the low-pressure warning for the tire The vehicle was brought to Costco for two inspections regarding the TPMS, and all the TPMS on the tires were working correctly; they could not determine the cause of the lamp. • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-11
  • Date Complaint: 2024-05-27
  • VIN: SAL1L9FU9PA
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: Less than 2 hours before my car completely shut down while driving, I received an error message stating "Stop safely. Electrical fault detected." I immediately reached out to the service department who told they didn't think the car would have any additional issues and that I should bring it to the shop on Monday (the incident happened on Saturday). While driving down an entrance ramp to a major highway, my car shut completely off leaving me with no steering, brakes, emergency brakes, hazards or anything--completely dead to the point where absolutely nothing worked. I had to do my best to steer a dead car down an entrance ramp and onto a grassy area on the side of the highway as to avoid being hit by another vehicle or crashing into a vehicle or tree. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk because the car completely shut down leaving no emergency equipment for me to use. I had cars behind me, in front of me, and beside me on a busy highway with a speed limit of 70 mph. I was also going down a ramp with no brakes. At first I thought it was the battery as did the dealership, then they suspected the generator, then they said it was the converter. They were able to produce the same problem after the generator was replaced and the car only ran for 15 minutes. Unfortunately we sold the car within 2 weeks of the incident because we no longer felt safe, and the manufacturer has been replacing one part at a time with the most important part being on back order with no indication of when it will arrive.

  • Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with a Surround Camera System. Water may enter into the rearview camera, which can cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the display or display a distorted image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
  • Consequence: A rearview camera image that does not display can decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rearview camera for damage. If no damage is found, the camera will be fitted with a new seal. If damage is found, the camera will be replaced and calibrated. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 18, 2024. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N901. These vehicles were previously recalled under 24V-023 for this same issue and will need to have the new remedy completed.

I purchased this car in March 2019 and was initially thrilled with its luxurious appearance. However, shortly after buying it, my daughter and I had a terrifying experience when the car suddenly stopped in the middle of a busy highway. Despite my distress, the emergency services took a while to arrive due to holiday traffic. After two hours, the car was finally towed away. I contacted the company and was told that they would review my case, but it took almost 60 days to receive a response. Unfortunately, they denied my claim, stating that since they had fixed the issue, they were not responsible for any further compensation. I was disappointed to learn that the engine failure was a recall issue that I was not informed about. Overall, I would not recommend purchasing a car from Range Rover.

It's definitely an eye-catcher, but it comes with a steep price. Despite being a gas guzzler, the confidence you feel when driving it is indescribable. The car more than compensates for its shortcomings, cutting through snow effortlessly and accelerating beautifully, lifting its almost 4-ton weight with ease. However, it's important to note that it's not a sports car, so caution is advised when handling corners. While it may have some plasticky attachments that lower the overall quality, it's still a great car to own. It's highly maneuverable for its size and the power and control are impressive. It's worth noting that it doesn't come with all the bells and whistles of Japanese cars, such as a fully automated tailgate or a rear camera without paying an arm and a foot. Overall, it's a great car to own!

I purchased a 2019 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged in August 2019. Initially, everything was great except for a sunroof rattle that was present from the day I picked up the car. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse around January 2020. The 'Sport' badge painted in black on the tailgate began flaking off, but the dealership was able to fix the issue. I also experienced a clicking noise on the outside of the car when turning the wheel at low speeds, which was resolved by replacing the upper control arm. Additionally, the screens in the car have gone black while driving and the reverse camera has stopped working, but the dealership is working to resolve these issues. I have also had some suspension and other related warning faults, but the dealership has been helpful in addressing these concerns. Although there have been some issues with the car, the dealership has been responsive and has worked to resolve each issue as it arises. I appreciate their efforts to ensure my safety and satisfaction with the vehicle. The passenger seat motor fan for the heated and cooling seats is currently jammed and not working. Additionally, the brake pedal inside the car makes an awful groaning noise when applied and clicks when sudden pressure is applied. Although the brake pedal actuator was replaced, the issues still persist. There are also some rattles inside the cabin when the engine is idling high, as well as engine vibrations around 1200rpm which can be felt throughout the cabin. It is unclear whether this is related to the transmission, but at low speeds and especially in traffic, there can be sudden jolts and thumps under the car, almost as if there is a disconnect in the drivetrain, which can be very abrupt at times. It is important to note that the car is only a year and a bit old with 23k kilometres to date. While the car looks great and the interior is very nice, the constant issues are frustrating. As it is a lease, I am looking forward to returning the car. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this brand since I have never had so many issues with a vehicle that is only over a year old. The quality of the vehicle is not up to par and the dealer's service has been subpar. I have had better quality and service from much cheaper cars like a Nissan Altima. It is definitely not worth the money to spend on such an expensive vehicle that spends most of its time at the dealer. It is better to get a simpler and cheaper vehicle.

Hello! I purchased my 2011 RRS HSE in mid-December last year and have only driven 5K+ miles as of writing this review. Unfortunately, I have experienced some trouble with it. Firstly, the rubber seal on top of the windshield came off and scratched the roof while I was driving. This was unexpected for a car that costs 60K. Additionally, at only 2K miles, the car flashed a parking brake fault while I was driving on the freeway, which prompted me to find the nearest spot to stop. The Encino dealer updated the electronic programming of the vehicle, but the issue has occurred twice since then. I would advise against purchasing this car. Thank you for reading!

This model of Range Rover has been a disappointment to me, as it has not lived up to the high standards set by previous models I have owned and driven. The car's keyless entry system has been particularly frustrating, as it often fails to recognize my key fob and has required multiple visits to the dealer without resolution. Additionally, the rear trunk foot opening and infotainment screen have also experienced glitches. Despite the twin tailpipe design, only one is actually functional, which is disappointing. Overall, my experience with this Range Rover has left me dissatisfied and I will be looking for a different vehicle for my next purchase.

What a great ride! I ordered my 2016 RRS and it was delivered in October. I absolutely love this truck. The diesel engine is incredibly efficient, giving me an impressive 26-27 mpg combined. This kind of mileage per gallon is exactly why most SUVs should be diesel. I don't even use the smart on/off technology because I believe that diesel engines should have a minimum of ON/OFF for the engine. To be fully satisfied with this RRS, I recommend getting all possible upgrades. The audio is not great for the money you pay if you don't upgrade to the Meridian system, but this is a small sacrifice that is made up for by the way it drives. Even if you're like me and didn't upgrade to the Meridian System, you'll still be very happy with this SUV. My friends and family love it too, so there will definitely be other RRS purchases in the family :)

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 2010 Range Rover Sport. I've driven it for 37,000 km, mostly on my way to my cottage in Quebec, and I have to say it's been a fantastic driving experience. The car is heavy, but it makes for a very comfortable ride, and it's definitely an attractive vehicle. I have to say, the Harman Kardon sound system is the best I've ever heard in a car! However, I have had a few service aggravations with it, which have unfortunately motivated me to sell it prematurely. It's a shame, really, because for a vehicle of this quality with only 50,000 km, it's been in the shop far too many times. Anyway, I hope this helps you out in some way. Let me know if you have any questions!

I recently received my Autobiography after waiting for five long months. Although the wait was ridiculous, I must say that I am truly impressed with the quality, ride, performance and design of the vehicle. The only minor issues I have are that the rear seats are a bit hard and the front seat caused some discomfort during a six-hour road trip. However, I am hopeful that the seats will break in over time. Additionally, I had to pay $650 for a black Morzine fabric headliner, which I feel should have been included in the price of the car. Despite these minor issues, I absolutely love everything else about this vehicle and it is truly the best vehicle I've ever owned. The Range Rover Sport looks fast standing still and exudes high-end quality that never fails to impress people. I never thought I would love driving another vehicle more than my BMW X5, but the Range Rover Sport has won me over. I was initially concerned about reliability issues, but I purchased the Land Rover extended warranty and feel confident that my experience with this vehicle will be a good one over the next seven years. I highly recommend this car.
