The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

Common 2011 Land rover Range rover sport problems

Based on the complaints and experiences shared by owners of the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, several common problems have been identified:

  1. Timing Chain Issues:
    • One of the major concerns with the 2011 Range Rover Sport is related to timing chain problems. The timing chain and guide issues can lead to engine failure if not addressed promptly. Symptoms of a faulty timing chain include engine misfires, rough idling, and unusual engine noises. It is crucial to monitor the timing chain's condition and address any signs of wear or slack to prevent catastrophic engine damage.
  2. Air Suspension Problems:
    • Another common issue reported by owners is related to the air suspension system. Malfunctions in the air suspension can lead to a harsh ride, uneven vehicle height, and suspension failure. Regular inspection and maintenance of the air suspension components, including airbags and compressor, are essential to ensure optimal performance and ride comfort.
  3. Oil Leaks:
    • Owners have also highlighted concerns about oil leaks in the Range Rover Sport. Oil leaks can stem from various sources, such as valve cover gaskets or other engine components. Detecting and repairing oil leaks promptly is crucial to prevent engine damage and maintain the vehicle's performance.
  4. Hand Brake Malfunctions:
    • Some owners have reported issues with the handbrake system, including screeching noises or failure to release properly. These problems can be caused by collapsed handbrake shoes or broken mechanisms. Addressing handbrake issues promptly is essential to ensure safe parking and driving conditions.
  5. Loss of Power:
    • Loss of power is another common complaint among Range Rover Sport owners. This issue can be attributed to various factors, including air boost pressure loss or EGR valve malfunctions. Loss of power can affect the vehicle's performance and fuel efficiency, necessitating diagnostic testing to identify and address the root cause effectively.
  6. EGR Valve Problems:
    • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve problems have been reported by some owners. Faulty EGR valves can lead to symptoms such as heavy black smoke, poor engine performance, and high fuel consumption. Regular inspection and potential replacement of EGR valves are essential to maintain engine efficiency and reduce emissions.

By addressing these common problems proactively through regular maintenance, inspections, and timely repairs, owners of the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport can enhance the reliability and longevity of their vehicles.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-01
  • VIN: SALSK2D44BA
  • Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: At the beginning of the year my car started going into limp mode and shutting down. I had it inspected and the purge valve was faulty and I paid to have it replaced in august 2021. In the past month it’s started dying while driving, mostly as I’m pulling up to a stoplight. The engine will sputter and it will completely die while the car is in drive which means I loose controll of the steering wheel even while it’s still moving. I just had it inspected and it’s the same issue, the purge valve I’ve just replaced is stuck closed. So this will be the 3rd purge valve this car has had in a 4 month period. I’m afraid this is going to cause me to have an accident and it’s the same thing over and over so it sounds like it’s a faulty part.

SUSPENSION,WHEELS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-11-24
  • VIN: SALSK2D40BA
  • Components: SUSPENSION,WHEELS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: SAFETY RECALL N623: Gasoline Fuel Tank Flange Assembly Cracking WHY is this recall not showing when I enter my VIN number here? Vehicle was towed back to house November 24th, 2021 after discovering it was leaking gas all over the Walmart parking lot. I have been smelling gas inside the vehicle and on the outside passenger side of the vehicle for almost 2 months! I saw no visible evidence to prompt concern until November 24th. When I called AAA to have the car towed they asked me to call 911 to clear the car from “risk of explosion” before it could be towed. I have been trying to call the Land Rover dealership to get my car in for this repair and they can’t get me in until the end of January!?! How is this acceptable!? I’ve been driving this car around like this for two months.. possibly longer.. with my TODDLER! And I’m being told by AAA, my mobile mechanic and this ‘Safety Recall Letter’ that the car is at risk of explosion!? I have the “Important Safety Recall” letter in my hands right now that outlines my exact issue and it literally says.. “there could be liquid fuel underneath the vehicle, which in the presence of an ignition source could lead to a fire.” This is unacceptable! I don’t have a vehicle now. I can’t work. Not working isn’t an option. Not having a reliable and safe vehicle I can count on isn’t an option. I can’t get my car in for the necessary repairs in a timely manner. I’m just stuck. There is no ideal time for this issue to arise but right before Christmas!? I can’t even think of the appropriate words to communicate the level of havoc and life f**kery this is causing. I’m literally here reporting this issue because of the letter I received and now I’m infuriated this recall isn’t even listed on y’all’s website. Who sends out an “Important Safety Recall” letter that casually mentions the car could catch on fire and then just doesn’t put the recall into full effect!? What’s my next step? Attorney. What’s y’all’s?

Negative 2011 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Juvenal Schmitt 2024-10-23

Hello! I purchased my 2011 RRS HSE in mid-December last year and have only driven 5K+ miles as of writing this review. Unfortunately, I have experienced some trouble with it. Firstly, the rubber seal on top of the windshield came off and scratched the roof while I was driving. This was unexpected for a car that costs 60K. Additionally, at only 2K miles, the car flashed a parking brake fault while I was driving on the freeway, which prompted me to find the nearest spot to stop. The Encino dealer updated the electronic programming of the vehicle, but the issue has occurred twice since then. I would advise against purchasing this car. Thank you for reading!

  2. Juvenal Nolan 2024-03-28

This SUV has had some issues, including locking my wife out three times, turn signals and mirrors not working properly, no air conditioning, navigation or radio, and spending over 20 days in the shop in less than 5000 miles. Additionally, the windows don't always close and there have been instances where the 'smart key' takes up to 30 minutes to be found, preventing the car from starting and causing the alarm to sound. Despite these challenges, we remain confident in our ability to address these issues and ensure the safety and reliability of our vehicle. We are committed to finding a solution and providing a positive driving experience for ourselves and others on the road.

I remember test driving the first Range Rover Sport, and leaving confused as to how they could name such a slow vehicle

  3. Jeffery Tromp 2024-09-19

I am pleased to offer you details about the RRS 3.0 TDV 3.0 245 bhp HSE Luxury. The car has been driven for 60000 miles and is in great condition. I recently had to replace the spare wheel winch for 150 USD, but I was able to fit it myself. There is an occasional error message indicating an empty fuel tank when it is actually full, but I believe it is due to a faulty sensor or bad contact. I will take care of it myself. The wheel nuts' alloy coat is stretching, so I bought new wheelnuts. I had a tire explosion while driving at 60+ mph, but I was able to stop safely and change the wheel. I have ordered new summer and winter tires, so the car will be ready for any weather. The car is tall, so I recommend driving carefully in roundabouts. However, it is a great drive overall. Please note that this is not a commuter's car, but it is perfect for pulling a trailer with 3500 kilos weight easily with 600 Nm. The car can accommodate up to 4 people, but for more, I suggest considering the full-size RR. It is important to perform proactive maintenance to keep the car in top condition, but it is worth it for the luxurious, big, and tall driving experience. After all, this is a British car. Thank you for considering this car.

  4. Graham Swift 2024-08-10

Wow, you own a 2008 RRS and it sounds like you're really enjoying it! It's great to hear that you're so happy with your purchase. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!

  5. Morgan Kihn 2024-08-10

This is the first SUV I have owned in years. I was impressed from the time I test drove the vehicle. Other than a minor electrical issue, the vehicle has been outstanding. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone.
