2012 Land rover Range rover sport problems
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.
Range Stormer concept
The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.
This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.
A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.
The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-08-22
- VIN: SALSP2E41CA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: MY CAR AT APPROX 58000 MILES HAD A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. LAND ROVER CENTERVILLE DIAGNOSED IT AS NEEDING A NEW TENSIONER, TIMING CHAIN AND SUPERCHARGER ISOLATOR. THE REPAIR WAS $6200. 2 YEARS LATER AT 84000 MILES THE VEHICLE IDLED ROUGHLY AND THREW A CODE"PERFORMANCE RESTRICTED" ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I DROVE IT SLOWLY TO THE NEAREST AUTO REPAIR SHOP (5 BLOCKS) WHERE IT DUPLICATED THE ROUGH IDLING AND CODE AND THEN THE ENGINE PROCEEDED TO BLOW UP DUE TO A FAULTY TENSIONER THAT CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO SLACKEN AND DESTROY PISTONS AND VALVES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHE HAD IT OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY. I ORIGINALLY REPLACED THE FAULTY TENSIONERS UNDER THE GUISE THIS WOULD PREVENT AN OCCURRENCE SUCH AS THIS. LAND ROVER STATES THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD LAST THE LIFE TIME OF THE VEHICLE AND I AM NOW ON MY THIRD ONE WITH A 2012 VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 84000 MILES. THE WORSE PART IS THAT THIS FAULTY DESIGN CAUSED MY ENGINE TO SEIZE. I AM NOW OUT 2 VERY COSTLY REPAIR BILLS AND I HAVE NO GUARANTEE THE NEW TENSIONER AND TIMING CHAIN WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY THIS IS A SITUATION LANDROVER IS WELL AWARE OF, YET THERE IS NO RECALL. THERE NEEDS TO BE.THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, REBUILD IT OR PART THE CAR OUT AS IT IS USELESS ONCE THIS OCCURS.

VEHICLE WAS LEFT COASTING IN TRAFFIC, AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV WITHOUT ANY INFLUENCE ON MOVING THE SUV. THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED IT AS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHERE THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION STRIPS THE INPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSFER CASE DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRETTING CORROSION CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT LUBRICANT/PROTECTANT APPLIED TO THE SHAFTS AT ASSEMBLY. I ALSO READ ABOUT OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC (RANGE ROVER FORUM POSTS). THIS INITIALLY LEFT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC WITH NO WAY TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AS IT HAS LEFT OTHERS THAT HAVE DESCRIBED THE SAME SUDDEN FAILURE ON THE INTERNET. THE ONLY REMEDY OFFERED AT THE DEALERSHIP IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND ENTIRE TRANSFER CASE AT A COST IN EXCESS OF $13,000.00.

Although I have never owned an SUV or a Range Rover before, I recently traded in my 2006 BMW 330I for a new 2011 Range Rover Sport. So far, I am really enjoying it. I did some research online and found that Range Rovers have had some issues in the past, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I have been pleasantly surprised with my experience so far, although it has only been a month since I purchased it. I love the smooth ride and overall feeling of the car, and the 375 hp gives it some extra pep when you hit the gas, which is reassuring. Additionally, I really like the overall look of the car, and my kids seem to enjoy climbing in and out of it. I will be sure to update my comments after a few more months of ownership.

I have identified an issue with my RRS that is causing discomfort and potential injury to my knees. Specifically, the combination of the driving position, accelerator pedal position, and accelerator pedal stiffness is creating excessive pressure on my knees, which has led to the development of tendinitis. While this is a major drawback, I still greatly enjoy the look and ride of the vehicle.
-
I remember test driving the first Range Rover Sport, and leaving confused as to how they could name such a slow vehicle
-
I purchased the RRS for my growing family. The drive quality is awesome. Although we looked at the Cayenne, X5, and Q7, we found that the RRS had the best combination of luxury and reliability. We opted for the HSE LUX, which provided everything we needed without going for the Supercharged. That was too much for my wife, and since we already own an M3, we didn't need that for our family. If you're looking for a vehicle that offers luxury, reliability, and presence on the road, the RRS is the perfect choice. It also makes you feel very safe.
-
I am pleased to offer you details about the RRS 3.0 TDV 3.0 245 bhp HSE Luxury. The car has been driven for 60000 miles and is in great condition. I recently had to replace the spare wheel winch for 150 USD, but I was able to fit it myself. There is an occasional error message indicating an empty fuel tank when it is actually full, but I believe it is due to a faulty sensor or bad contact. I will take care of it myself. The wheel nuts' alloy coat is stretching, so I bought new wheelnuts. I had a tire explosion while driving at 60+ mph, but I was able to stop safely and change the wheel. I have ordered new summer and winter tires, so the car will be ready for any weather. The car is tall, so I recommend driving carefully in roundabouts. However, it is a great drive overall. Please note that this is not a commuter's car, but it is perfect for pulling a trailer with 3500 kilos weight easily with 600 Nm. The car can accommodate up to 4 people, but for more, I suggest considering the full-size RR. It is important to perform proactive maintenance to keep the car in top condition, but it is worth it for the luxurious, big, and tall driving experience. After all, this is a British car. Thank you for considering this car.

This SUV has had some issues, including locking my wife out three times, turn signals and mirrors not working properly, no air conditioning, navigation or radio, and spending over 20 days in the shop in less than 5000 miles. Additionally, the windows don't always close and there have been instances where the 'smart key' takes up to 30 minutes to be found, preventing the car from starting and causing the alarm to sound. Despite these challenges, we remain confident in our ability to address these issues and ensure the safety and reliability of our vehicle. We are committed to finding a solution and providing a positive driving experience for ourselves and others on the road.
