2012 Land rover Range rover sport problems

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.
Range Stormer concept
The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.
This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.
A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.
The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-08-22
- VIN: SALSP2E41CA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: MY CAR AT APPROX 58000 MILES HAD A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. LAND ROVER CENTERVILLE DIAGNOSED IT AS NEEDING A NEW TENSIONER, TIMING CHAIN AND SUPERCHARGER ISOLATOR. THE REPAIR WAS $6200. 2 YEARS LATER AT 84000 MILES THE VEHICLE IDLED ROUGHLY AND THREW A CODE"PERFORMANCE RESTRICTED" ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I DROVE IT SLOWLY TO THE NEAREST AUTO REPAIR SHOP (5 BLOCKS) WHERE IT DUPLICATED THE ROUGH IDLING AND CODE AND THEN THE ENGINE PROCEEDED TO BLOW UP DUE TO A FAULTY TENSIONER THAT CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO SLACKEN AND DESTROY PISTONS AND VALVES. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHE HAD IT OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY. I ORIGINALLY REPLACED THE FAULTY TENSIONERS UNDER THE GUISE THIS WOULD PREVENT AN OCCURRENCE SUCH AS THIS. LAND ROVER STATES THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD LAST THE LIFE TIME OF THE VEHICLE AND I AM NOW ON MY THIRD ONE WITH A 2012 VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 84000 MILES. THE WORSE PART IS THAT THIS FAULTY DESIGN CAUSED MY ENGINE TO SEIZE. I AM NOW OUT 2 VERY COSTLY REPAIR BILLS AND I HAVE NO GUARANTEE THE NEW TENSIONER AND TIMING CHAIN WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY THIS IS A SITUATION LANDROVER IS WELL AWARE OF, YET THERE IS NO RECALL. THERE NEEDS TO BE.THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, REBUILD IT OR PART THE CAR OUT AS IT IS USELESS ONCE THIS OCCURS.

VEHICLE WAS LEFT COASTING IN TRAFFIC, AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV WITHOUT ANY INFLUENCE ON MOVING THE SUV. THE MECHANIC IDENTIFIED IT AS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHERE THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION STRIPS THE INPUT SHAFT OF THE TRANSFER CASE DUE TO EXCESSIVE FRETTING CORROSION CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT LUBRICANT/PROTECTANT APPLIED TO THE SHAFTS AT ASSEMBLY. I ALSO READ ABOUT OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC (RANGE ROVER FORUM POSTS). THIS INITIALLY LEFT ME IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC WITH NO WAY TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AS IT HAS LEFT OTHERS THAT HAVE DESCRIBED THE SAME SUDDEN FAILURE ON THE INTERNET. THE ONLY REMEDY OFFERED AT THE DEALERSHIP IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND ENTIRE TRANSFER CASE AT A COST IN EXCESS OF $13,000.00.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

Although I initially had some concerns after reading reviews about the RR Sport, my experience has been nothing but positive. While I did have an issue with a faulty battery cell in the first week, once it was replaced, the car has been a dream come true. I opted for black on black with contrast stitching, which looks beautiful, and the driving experience is fantastic. The seating position is incredibly comfortable, and the car has great power. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone considering it. It looks great both inside and out, and I have had nothing but fun driving it since the battery issue was resolved. You deserve to treat yourself to this car!

I absolutely adore this SUV! It's my all-time favorite among all the luxury vehicles I've owned over the years. The Range Rover is a dream to drive and is versatile enough for any occasion, be it a fancy date night, a trip to the beach, or just lugging kids around town. I downsized from a larger SUV and I don't miss the extra room as much as I thought I would. Plus, I love the fact that it's easy to park in tight spaces. The car has been in pristine condition and we've had no issues other than minor items that are easily repairable. I highly recommend this vehicle, as there is no other like it on the market - trust me, I've looked at them all!

I custom ordered my 2010 Range Rover Sport SuperCharged, so it took a couple of months to arrive. I finally picked it up last week on 5/8. It looks stunning in Alaska White with Ebony Interior and Ivory contrast stitching. The 510HP engine on the SC is so responsive that I named it 'Charlie the Beast'. However, on the first day I drove it, my iPod only played music out of the left speakers, which made me a bit concerned as I've heard a lot about reliability issues with Land Rover. Luckily, it worked fine three days later, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The ride is so smooth that 90mph feels like 50mph. My only complaint so far is the lack of compartment space. Maybe they could do away with the cooler? Overall, it's an amazing ride!

1. I absolutely love driving this car! As someone who is 6'2

Hi there! I live in the beautiful region of Samana, Dominican Republic, which is known for its stunning mountains and scenic dirt roads. Over the years, I've owned a Toyota diesel Prado, a Volkswagen Touareg diesel, a BMW x6 diesel, and now a LR SS. I made the switch to the LR because the X6 wasn't suitable for the sandy roads here in Samana. I bought my LR new in September 2010, model 2011, and even changed the tires to better suit the roads here. It's a very comfortable car with sufficient power for all my needs. While it may not be the best for off-roading, it's perfect for my daily use. However, I have had some maintenance issues, including having to change the suspension system and connections twice, which can be quite a hassle. Unfortunately, these issues arose after the guarantee period, at 51,000 km. Overall, I'm still happy with my LR and enjoy driving it around this beautiful region.

I've been driving the 2010 RRS HSE with LUX package for two weeks now and I must say, I'm really enjoying how the car handles. Although, I have encountered a few electronic/software issues that have been a bit frustrating. It seems like nothing quite operates the same way twice in a row. The manufacture date is 09/09 and this is my first LR vehicle. I've been a Lexus owner for the past 10 years and have never had any issues, so maybe my expectations were a bit too high. I'm planning on taking the car into the dealer to address 7 issues, all but one of which are electronic/software related. If possible, I'd love to loan LR the top-notch Test & QA team from my company for a few months.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to bring to your attention a couple of issues I've been experiencing with my vehicle. Specifically, I've had to go back to the service department three times in the past month due to a wheel alignment and computer problem. Additionally, the gas tank consistently shows as empty despite being full. I'm feeling a bit frustrated with the service I've received at the dealership and am considering pulling out of the contract. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

This SUV has had some issues, including locking my wife out three times, turn signals and mirrors not working properly, no air conditioning, navigation or radio, and spending over 20 days in the shop in less than 5000 miles. Additionally, the windows don't always close and there have been instances where the 'smart key' takes up to 30 minutes to be found, preventing the car from starting and causing the alarm to sound. Despite these challenges, we remain confident in our ability to address these issues and ensure the safety and reliability of our vehicle. We are committed to finding a solution and providing a positive driving experience for ourselves and others on the road.
