The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

Common 2013 Land rover Range rover sport problems

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a luxury SUV that has been praised for its chunky styling, comfort, and off-road capabilities. However, it is also known for certain common problems that have been reported by owners.

One of the most frequently reported issues is related to the air suspension system. A "Normal Height Only" message may be displayed due to faulty air suspension pumps, which can result in a suspension fault. This problem can be quite expensive to repair, with an average cost ranging between $1,121 and $1,371.

Another issue that has been reported is related to the engine. The TDV6 and SDV6 engines, in particular, are known to have problems, with crankshafts sometimes snapping and injectors failing. These issues can lead to significant downtime and repair costs.

The six-speed automatic transmission, which was standard on some models, can also be problematic. The ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) may need to be replaced several times, or the software may need to be reset to resolve issues with the transmission.

The brakes and suspension components on the Range Rover Sport are also known to wear out quickly due to the vehicle's heavy weight. This can result in higher maintenance costs over time, particularly if the vehicle is driven aggressively or used for off-road purposes.

In addition to these issues, the Range Rover Sport has a relatively high annual repair cost of $1,246 on average, which is higher than many other luxury SUVs in its class. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport also has a poor reliability rating of 2.5 out of 5.0, which ranks it 10th out of 19 for luxury full-size SUVs. This indicates that the Range Rover Sport is more likely to require major repairs when compared to other cars in its class.

In summary, the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a capable and luxurious SUV, but it is also known for certain common problems related to the air suspension system, engine, transmission, brakes, and suspension components. These issues can result in significant repair costs and downtime, and may be a consideration for potential buyers. It is recommended to thoroughly research the vehicle's service history, maintenance requirements, and potential repair costs before making a purchase decision.

The 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport has a reliability rating of 2.5 out of five from J.D. Power. That is below average for the industry as a whole, and it's one of the lowest ratings in this class.

What is the common problem in Range Rover Sport?

Range Rover Sport problems span a wide range of areas, centring on the suspension, engine, engine electrics, air conditioning, sat-nav, car electrics, gearbox, drivetrain and bodywork. Leaks from the engine, sunroof and around the tailgate are also known issues.

How long will a 2013 Range Rover Sport last?

With detailed maintenance, routine servicing, and good driving habits, a Range Rover can last between 150,000 and 200,000 miles. This works out to be about ten to thirteen years of service before it requires repairs or breaks down.

Is Range Rover expensive to maintain?

Although that's true for some, you may be surprised to learn that Range Rovers are inexpensive to maintain compared to other luxury makes — including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Cadillac. Even when compared to non-luxury brands, the yearly annual Range Rover maintenance cost is solidly average.

I purchased an after market fuel tank shield on ebay - it does not fit properly. I also tried finding the same part at junk-yards but those are completely rusted out as well. It is difficult to accept that this critical part was so poorly designed or manufactured, in addition to it being unavailable for purchase. Negative 2013 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Will Morar 2024-01-27

This SUV has had some issues, including locking my wife out three times, turn signals and mirrors not working properly, no air conditioning, navigation or radio, and spending over 20 days in the shop in less than 5000 miles. Additionally, the windows don't always close and there have been instances where the 'smart key' takes up to 30 minutes to be found, preventing the car from starting and causing the alarm to sound. Despite these challenges, we remain confident in our ability to address these issues and ensure the safety and reliability of our vehicle. We are committed to finding a solution and providing a positive driving experience for ourselves and others on the road.

Positive 2013 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Kyle Hackett 2025-01-09

Owned since 2013! I'm happy to say that I haven't had any problems with it. Of course, being a Range, it can be expensive to maintain, with oil changes costing around $200 and rear brakes costing $600, while front brakes can cost up to $1k. However, if you take good care of it, you won't want to drive any other SUV.

  2. Darren Daniel 2025-01-05

I've owned the car for just a month and haven't had any problems to report. It's a 2011 RRS with the Luxury Package, in Fuji White with Almond interior. Coming from a GL450, X-5 and a QX56, I can say that this is by far the most fun SUV to drive, with a build quality that can't be matched. The 5-liter engine with 375 hp provides plenty of power when you need it, and the exhaust note sounds great even at cruising speeds. The interior and center stack are situated nicely and have a regal look and feel. If you're in the market for an RRS, don't waste any time - they're hard to find and not that available.

  3. Gennaro Weber 2024-11-20

I came across this Black Range Rover in excellent condition that was just traded-in at Doral Lincoln in Miami. The interior is the ivory leather Windsor edition, which is absolutely the finest leather I've ever seen in any car. It drives awesome with no problems, and everyone gives me compliments on the vehicle.

  4. Joseph Kihn 2024-11-03

Used but only 60000 miles on it. Great shape! I love it! I got it from Grieco Chevrolet in Fort Lauderdale, which is a top-of-the-line dealership. Thanks!

  5. Jaylin Bergstrom 2024-10-28

Congratulations on your new 2010 RRS HSE Lux! It sounds like you made an excellent choice with the Santorini Black exterior, Black extended leather package, 20
