2019 Land rover Range rover sport problems

land rover logo

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

Common 2019 Land rover Range rover sport problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2019, here are some common problems with this car:

  1. Excessive Vibrations: Owners have reported excessive vibrations in the cabin, which can be felt due to propshaft problems. The propshaft tends to fail because its rubber parts and bearings wear out, causing an imbalance that leads to vibrations and abnormal noises. Regularly greasing the propshaft and inspecting it for wear can help prevent this issue.
  2. Fuel System Issues: The 2017 model of the Range Rover Sport faced fuel system problems, leading to a recall in 2018. Defective fuel gauges may inaccurately show low fuel levels, and malfunctioning engine management software can intermittently shut down the engine. This poses a risk of sudden engine failure and loss of power brake assistance, increasing the potential for accidents.
  3. Door Lock Malfunctions: The Range Rover Sport experienced door lock problems, resulting in a recall of over 65,000 SUVs in 2019. Some units built between 2014-2016 had a keyless vehicle latching system that could malfunction, causing doors to appear locked when they are not. This issue could lead to doors unexpectedly opening while the vehicle is in motion.

These common problems with the Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2019 can impact the driving experience and safety of the vehicle. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to these issues can help ensure a smoother and safer driving experience for owners of this car.

Negative 2019 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Amir Bartell 2025-04-18

For the price that is paid, we understand that you would expect a monitor interface that does not lag, a back-up camera that does not black out, and basic features such as an easy entry option for seats and steering wheel. Unfortunately, the Range Rover Sport does not meet these expectations. Additionally, the car name 'Sport' can be misleading. Despite the gas-wasting turbocharger, pressing on the gas does not provide the expected power. However, if you are interested in additional widgets and add-ons, then the Range Rover Sport may be worth considering.

  2. Gussie Gulgowski 2025-04-12

I ordered a 2018 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Dynamic V8 in February 2018 and received it in late May of the same year. The vehicle looks amazing both inside and out. During the test drive, I found the V6 to be unimpressive, so I opted for the V8. It has tons of power, is fast, and the exhaust sounds great. However, I have experienced some issues with the electronics and infotainment system. The back-up camera did not work consistently, which made it nerve-racking to back up without it. I brought the vehicle in for repair and the dealer did a software update to address the problems. While the back-up camera works most of the time now, it occasionally won't turn on when I put the vehicle in reverse. There have been some new problems that appeared after the update, such as the interior ambient lighting resetting to the highest setting after the ignition is turned off and the radio presets on the lower touchscreen disappearing before I can use them. I contacted the dealer regarding these issues and was informed that they are currently working on a solution. Despite these challenges, I am still enjoying my Range Rover and look forward to a resolution to these issues. If you're considering purchasing a 2018 Range Rover Sport, it may be helpful to research some of the common issues reported by owners. While the car's appearance and performance are impressive, some customers have experienced electronic malfunctions that Land Rover has yet to resolve. If you prioritize reliability, you may want to consider other luxury brands such as Mercedes or BMW.

  3. Bradley Grady 2025-04-07

The Range Rover Sport is a great looking car that drives really well. However, the new technology has some issues. I was excited to get the 2019 model with the new touchscreen technology, but unfortunately, my vehicle was delivered in May 2018, and it seems that the tech had not been thoroughly tested. It can be slow and buggy, with some screens taking a long time to come up or being completely blank. I did send it to the dealer to update to the latest version, but unfortunately, not much has changed since then. My previous vehicle was a Tesla, which worked seamlessly, with only occasional reboots. While the interior technology and mobile apps of the Range Rover Sport are not great, they do not detract from how great the car drives.

I recently purchased a 2018 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Dynamic for my wife, which is quite an expensive SUV at over $100k. Although we've had Mercedes, BMW, and other luxury cars in the past, we faced some technology issues with this one from the beginning. The back-up camera was a consistent issue, along with other software-related glitches. However, the car always started and ran great. Despite the nightmare of technology/software issues, we were able to resolve the problem with the help of a Lemon Law attorney. The new vehicle seems to be functioning as it should, with the issues we were dealing with on the first one apparently resolved. One nice thing is that the new one had about $2500 of additional options that we got for free with the exchange. Also, the warranty and any packages purchased (wheel/tire protection, prepaid maintenance, etc.) start new from the new delivery date, so it's like you just purchased a new vehicle. Although the first few months were a pain, we're now happy with the vehicle and love the power of the supercharged V8 and other Range Rover touches in and out of the vehicle. Just make sure you get one that was manufactured after July of 2018. Good Luck!

  5. Turner Stroman 2025-03-24

I purchased this car in March 2019 and was initially thrilled with its luxurious appearance. However, shortly after buying it, my daughter and I had a terrifying experience when the car suddenly stopped in the middle of a busy highway. Despite my distress, the emergency services took a while to arrive due to holiday traffic. After two hours, the car was finally towed away. I contacted the company and was told that they would review my case, but it took almost 60 days to receive a response. Unfortunately, they denied my claim, stating that since they had fixed the issue, they were not responsible for any further compensation. I was disappointed to learn that the engine failure was a recall issue that I was not informed about. Overall, I would not recommend purchasing a car from Range Rover.

Positive 2019 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Trevor Walter 2024-11-27

The car sounds great! It's comfortable and has good visibility, and overall performance is fine.

  2. Jamel Purdy 2024-11-11

It's so great to hear that you've enjoyed your car!

  3. Sydney Borer 2024-09-15

    Everything you expected and more!

  4. Aidan Welch 2024-09-03

The Range Rover is an exceptional SUV that stands out from the competition. Even when compared to high-end Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Lamborghini options, none come close to what a Range Rover offers as an entire package, especially if you have the V8 Supercharged/Autobiography/SVR. While the upper models' base prices are high, the quality and features are worth the investment. The HSE model is a great option for those who want to say they have a Range Rover, but for those who want more, the Autobiography and SVR models offer even more luxury and performance. It's true that all Range Rover Sports look alike, but this can also be seen as a positive for those who appreciate flying under the radar. The HSE model is the most common in the DMV area, but the Supercharged, Autobiography, and SVR models offer more exclusivity. While the 6-cylinder engine may not be the most powerful, it still offers a smooth ride and decent fuel efficiency. Overall, the Range Rover is a top-tier SUV that is worth considering for anyone in the market for a luxury vehicle. So in summary, if you're looking for a luxurious SUV that can handle off-roading like a champ, the Range Rover Sport 2019 is the way to go. With its impressive 517+ HP and a 0-60 time of 5.1 seconds (faster than a 996 Porsche Carrera), it's a no-brainer. Plus, the luxury and world-class off-roading capabilities make it stand out from the competition. While other car makers try to replicate it and come up short, the Range Rover Sport and full-size remain the greatest SUVs ever created. Yes, there may be some lag with the infotainment, but reliability is much better than expected from multiple stories of people owning older Rovers (2016).

  5. Maximus Stoltenberg 2024-06-23

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share some thoughts on the 2019 vehicles. I was wondering if all of them come with a shut off when idling? If not, that would be a shame. In my opinion, it's always a good idea to get a Super Charge or a larger engine (if available) to ensure a smooth ride. While it may be a bit difficult to get onto the highway, once you're rolling, it's a wonderful experience. I live in a busy suburb with a decent amount of traffic, and I find it to be a great highway vehicle. It's also great for rough terrain. My wife and I are both seniors and we're still trying to figure out the technology, but we're getting there. The dealer was really nice and even invited us back for another tutorial. Thanks for listening!
