The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

Common 2018 Land rover Range rover sport problems

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2018 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues span a wide range of areas, including the air suspension, engine, engine electrics, air conditioning, sat-nav, electrics inside the car, gearbox, drivetrain, and bodywork.

  • Engine Electrics: The 2018 Range Rover Sport has been reported to have issues with its radio, GPS, and air conditioning systems. Some owners have reported that the radio shuts down when it feels like it, GPS is terrible and confusing, and the air conditioning won't shut off. Soft lock drs don't work on all drs, and the infotainment system is considered garbage for the price.
  • Gearbox and Drivetrain: Traction control issues, random beeping, suspension issues, camera delay, and sensor issues have been reported in the 2018 Range Rover Sport. These problems can cause the vehicle to skid out of control on the road, making it dangerous to drive, especially on highways.
  • Bodywork: Leaks from the engine, sunroof, and around the tailgate are known issues in the Range Rover Sport. These leaks can lead to more severe problems if not addressed promptly.

Despite these common problems, many owners still appreciate the brand's prestige and driving experience, often willing to overlook reliability issues in favor of the vehicle's overall performance and image. However, most agree that improvements are needed in both reliability and dealer service to enhance the ownership experience of the Range Rover Sport.

Negative 2018 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Davon Bartoletti 2025-02-20

I wanted to wait before writing a review. Now that I've had some time with it, I can say that I've had some issues with this $90,000 vehicle. Unfortunately, the electronics and software don't seem to be perfected yet. Despite its awesome looks, it's not the most reliable car you can purchase. From the day I pulled it out of the dealership's driveway, I've had some problems. The first problem was a computer issue where the keys wouldn't respond to lock/unlock the doors. It took 12 days to figure out what was causing the problem. The second problem was the water pump breaking after only a little over 1,000 miles. It took another 10 days for the parts to arrive since they come from Great Britain. The third visit to the shop was for a regular service call, but when I thought the car was ready, the engine light was lit. It took a few more days before I was able to take it home. The fourth visit was for a water leak inside the vehicle (driver's side and seat behind driver) and a service was due. The vehicle was kept in the shop for over a week, and unfortunately, loaners were not available. After paying over $1000 in service, the leak was fixed, which I was told was an air conditioning fault. I took the car home, and after a short time, the engine light came on, and the passenger's A/C was blowing hot air. I'm disappointed to own this expensive car, and I know I won't be keeping it for very long. My advice to anyone contemplating purchasing one is to take your money somewhere else.

It sounds like you've had a frustrating experience with your Range Rover. It's never fun to have to rely on loaner cars, and it's disappointing when you don't receive the support you need from the manufacturer. On the bright side, it's great to hear that your dealership has been helpful. In contrast, you've had many Lexus's without any issues, which is a testament to their reliability. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

  3. Thad Haag 2025-01-11

I received my order in mid-May 2018, but unfortunately, I experienced some electronics issues on the first day. Within the first 24 hours, some parts started to fall off the vehicle, and I also had engine issues with warning lights that started within a few days of receiving the vehicle. I had to make 19 return trips for ongoing issues, and unfortunately, the trailer package and park assist never worked. Additionally, the camera system failed while at the dealer, and the touchscreen would not accept touch input. I also experienced a total failure of the cruise control on the interstate with engine shut down, and the engine failed on my return trip to the dealer. In the 4 months of ownership, the dealer had the vehicle for over 3 months, and the engine and cabin were repeatedly torn apart to change out parts and boxes. Land Rover engineers repeatedly played with software, so one time the vehicle was not in English. All the increasing electronic issues resulted in the dash being torn apart so many times that you could not open the glove compartment. I had to fill a “lemon law” under state statutes, and finally, Land Rover USA had to refund my money. Although the vehicle looks great, in my experience, it was not reliable. I personally would avoid Land Rover products. Unfortunately, I had to wait 5 months from the time of ordering to receive my vehicle, which turned out to be a disappointment. I ordered all the options in the Diesel engine and option packages, but unfortunately, I only had one month of intermittent possession and 3 months at the dealer before I got a refund.

  4. Jonathan Roberts 2024-10-02

We experienced a sudden loss of power while driving our LandRover on a busy commercial street, which could have resulted in serious injury or worse. Despite instinctively trying to pump the gas pedal, the vehicle came to a dead stop without any warning. Fortunately, we were able to turn into a nearby shopping area, but this was purely due to luck. We want to make other owners aware that LandRover America is currently struggling with this issue in their 2018 and 2019 models, and we strongly urge them to issue a recall. After bringing our car in for service and following the manufacturer's instructions for repair, we requested a guarantee from LandRover that the throttle problem had been resolved, but unfortunately, they refused. It is nonsensical that LandRover is placing the liability on the dealer, when they are the responsible party for this defect. We hope that LandRover takes notice of this issue and takes appropriate action to ensure the safety of their customers.

I recently purchased a 2018 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged with all the features. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the car, particularly with the infotainment system and electrical components. The car has had some trouble recognizing the key, and the interior lights have turned on unexpectedly. Additionally, the bluetooth connection has been unreliable and the touch screens have had some glitches. Despite these issues, the car is still visually stunning. However, I would advise against purchasing a Range Rover based on my experience and that of a family member who had a similar experience. If I had to choose again, I would consider Mercedes, Porsche or Audi instead.

Positive 2018 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Jordy Boehm 2025-02-13

I've owned over 30 cars over the years, all kinds. Recently, I've preferred to lease my vehicles and then purchase them if they have been problem-free and I like them. In July 2018, I leased this vehicle and have since put almost 19k miles on it. I'm happy to report that the car has been fantastic! It has only been to the dealer once at 15k miles for an oil change and software update. I have never experienced any of the issues mentioned here, and the vehicle has been totally problem-free. The power, ride, handling, features, sound of the V8, and look of the vehicle are simply standout on the road among all the Audis and BMWs. Assuming no upcoming issues, I'll be buying it at the end of the lease. Update December 2021: I bought the car at the end of the lease and two months later (Oct), I had a water leak and a water pump failure. The car had to be towed to the dealer and the pump was replaced under warranty. I also got an oil change and had to replace the tires recently at 30k miles. Despite these minor issues, I still rate this vehicle as fantastic!

    Everything you expected and more!

  3. Quentin Reichel 2024-09-02

I'm really happy that I waited for what I consider the perfect SUV! It has all the bells and whistles one needs. The seats are super comfortable and the heated seats are the BEST I've experienced. So far, everything is good!

  4. Juston Hane 2024-08-25

I love driving this car! It's actually my second RRS (my previous one was a 2008), and I'm so glad I waited for this refresh year. The exterior is absolutely stunning, and the interior and infotainment system are the biggest upgrades for me. While the new touch pro duo isn't perfect, it's still one of the best in its class. I've had a few minor issues, like an occasional glitch on the screen or a lost connection with my iPod touch, but these will likely be resolved with the latest software update, which will also add Apple CarPlay! This time, I went with the V6 HSE Dynamic, and I thought I would really miss the V8, but surprisingly, there isn't much difference out on the road, especially in Dynamic mode. Although, I do miss the growl from the exhaust, so next time, I'll break down and get the V8. As with any luxury car, parts can be expensive as the car ages, but you should expect this. Out of all the cars I considered (Audi Q7, BMW X5 or X6, Porsche Macaan), this one checked all the boxes for what I wanted: appearance, style, drive comfort, and upgraded technology. It's an absolute joy to drive!

  5. Edwardo Tromp 2024-07-05

The sound, acceleration, and sheer power of this SUV are truly unmatched! It's definitely one of my top two favorite automobiles in life so far. The car is perfect for date night at a formal occasion, but also handles a race to the weekend camping spot with ease. They absolutely nailed the design!
