The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.

Range Stormer concept

The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.

A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.

The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

Common 2020 Land rover Range rover sport problems

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2020 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues span a wide range of areas, including the suspension, engine, engine electrics, air conditioning, sat-nav, and other components.

  • Suspension Issues: The Range Rover Sport's 4-wheel air suspension system is known to have several faults, which are commonplace and can result in a yellow or red light on the dashboard, indicating a problem with the air suspension. The symptoms of these faults include the vehicle sitting lower, one or more corners not raising, and slow raising to standard ride height. These issues can be caused by various problems, such as faulty air suspension compressors, height sensors, and valves. Diagnostic checks and calibration are recommended to narrow down the cause before replacing any parts.
  • Engine and Engine Electrics: Engine-related issues have been reported by owners, including problems with the fuel level sensor float and crankshaft pulley retaining bolt. These issues can lead to recalls, as seen in the case of the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt, which may fracture due to a production specification error. The recall requires the replacement of the crankshaft pulley centre retaining bolt with one manufactured to the correct specification.
  • Air Conditioning: Issues with the air conditioning system have also been reported, with some owners experiencing problems with the air conditioning not functioning properly. This can lead to discomfort for occupants, particularly during hot weather conditions.
  • Sat-Nav: Some owners have reported issues with the satellite navigation system, which can affect the overall user experience and make it difficult to navigate to desired locations. This can be particularly problematic for those who rely heavily on their vehicle's sat-nav for daily commuting or long-distance travel.
  • Infotainment System: Complaints about the car's infotainment system have been reported, with some owners experiencing minor problems such as slow response times or software glitches. These issues can affect the overall user experience and make it difficult to use certain features of the vehicle.
  • Brakes: Range Rover Sport vehicles are known for using up brake discs and pads due to their high power and weight. If low pads are spotted early before any damage is caused to the disc, only the pads may need to be replaced. However, if damage has occurred, both the discs and pads may need to be replaced.
  • Front Suspension Arms: The front lower suspension arms are another common issue, with many owners reporting the need to replace these components due to excess play in the lower suspension bushes. Replacing the complete arm is often more straightforward than attempting to replace the bushings alone.
  • Wheel Bearings: Worn front wheel bearings are also a common problem, with owners reporting grinding or rumbling noises from a corner of the front of the vehicle. These noises often get worse when turning and can indicate a failing wheel bearing, which may require replacement to prevent the wheel from separating from the vehicle.
  • Door Locking Mechanism Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the door locking mechanism, which can affect the security and convenience of the vehicle. This issue may require the attention of a professional to resolve .
  • TDV8 Turbo Issues: The TDV8 engine, used in some Range Rover Sport models, has been reported to have turbo issues, which can affect the performance and reliability of the vehicle. Regular maintenance and inspections are recommended to ensure the turbocharger is functioning properly .
  • Suspension Problems and Recalls: Suspension problems have been reported, with some owners experiencing issues with the suspension system. Land Rover has issued recalls for certain suspension-related issues, such as the routing of the electrical harness within the steering column assembly, which may have insufficient clearance and require inspection and repair.
  • Timing Chain Guides: The timing chain guides for the V8 and Supercharged V8 engines have been reported to be problematic, potentially requiring replacement to maintain the reliability and performance of the vehicle .

In conclusion, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport 2020 has several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues span a wide range of areas, including the suspension, engine, engine electrics, air conditioning, sat-nav, and other components. Regular maintenance and inspections are recommended to ensure the vehicle remains reliable and safe to operate.

The automatic closing function of the car door does not have the function of preventing pinching. Several of my friends have already had their fingers pinched by the car door. I tried to communicate with them, but they did not check. You just have to be careful yourself, this has taken its toll on the body multiple times and without any warning lights. All of the above situations have no warning lights, have not been inspected, their manufacturers shirk responsibility, we have email communication details, they let me sue through lawyers, and they will respond accordingly, which makes me unable to understand. They ignore customers' life safety.

  • Summary: Land Rover/Range Rover does not have remote start on the key fob, but instead proudly boasts of their InControl App. "InControl Remote provides information on your vehicle and enables you to interact with it remotely. Compatible with most AndroidTM and Apple iOS smartphones, this service allows you to lock/unlock the doors, remotely preheat/precool the vehicle using the climate control function and remote engine start, or find your Land Rover faster by using the Beep and Flash feature." A quick look at the App reviews or an online google search of this product indicates this simply is not the case. The App is unreliable at best and unsafe at worst. It absolutely does not operate as marketed. The App is defective and Land Rover is well aware and has done nothing to correct this. I have been locked outside of my own Range Rover multiple times in various locations. Today, there was a winter gale warning of Real Feel 17 degrees. I started my car about five minutes before exiting. The App showed that my car started. When I was about one minute from my car, I opened the App to unlock my vehicle. It said it was unlocked. I physically saw the side mirrors on my car close and heard the doors lock as I was approaching. The App continued to show that my car was running and unlocked. I stood outside the car in the freezing weather (note that I could SEE my key fob inside the car) waiting for the App to refresh so I could unlock. I took a screenshot of the App indicting my car was unlocked and a video of me trying the handle on my car at this time. After approximately 5 minutes, I started walking back to the restaurant. The continued to try to use the App. I emailed [email protected]. Finally, it showed that I could lock my already locked car, so I locked it and unlocked it. I walked back out. It was not unlocked. I called Roadside Assistance for help. She was in the process of filing for someone to come unlock my car, when I tried the App again 10 min later. It unloc

Negative 2020 Land rover Range rover sport car reviews

  1. Clay Carroll 2024-09-08

My wife absolutely adores her 2020 RR Sport PHEV and it truly is a wonderful vehicle. When sitting in it, you can feel the quality of the craftsmanship and enjoy a smooth, quiet ride. Overall, it provides a luxurious driving experience. However, we have encountered some issues with the car that have unfortunately not been resolved by LR service. We purchased the car brand new in January 2020 and it currently has under 10,000 miles and is exactly two years old. Over the past 4-6 months, my wife has experienced three instances where the vehicle lost power while driving. Despite pressing the accelerator pedal, there was no response and the engine didn't rev, resulting in a complete lack of power. This happened to her on a road below our neighborhood where the speed limit is 40 mph and she was understandably frightened. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again on the highway, with a speed limit of 70mph, and she was almost hit by an 18-wheeler. We took the car to the dealer, but they couldn't replicate the issue. After it sat at the LR dealer for two weeks, we took it back. Less than a week later, it happened again and we had to take it back to the dealer. After having it for 10 days, they informed us that they are replacing the 'power cable', although we are not sure what that means. Is it a wire harness? Some other issue? No one will tell us, but because it is on back order, we need to wait at least another two weeks. Needless to say, my wife is now fearful of driving her car again. Please be aware of this issue and consider if this is the best $110k you can spend on a vehicle.

  2. Lucious Pouros 2024-08-28

I've owned several cars in my life, but unfortunately, this one has been the worst. It has had charging issues and jerks when I push the gas. I've taken it down to Reno, Nevada for service three or four times, but unfortunately, it hasn't helped. I'm considering trading it in for something else, as I'm feeling quite frustrated with the Range Rover service. I'm disappointed with the service I've received, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend them at this time.

A plug-in hybrid requires electrical engineering expertise. Although the car drives great when it works, it has been plagued with numerous issues that the dealerships have been unable to resolve. It is recommended that you check the ratings before making a purchase to ensure that it meets your expectations and requirements.

You can't go wrong with this beautiful car. It handles beautifully and as a single man, it attracts women. Lol.

After driving the redesigned new BMW X5, the Mercedes ML, and the Lexus RX back-to-back, we found that the Range Rover Sport's driving characteristics simply left all the others behind. While looks are a matter of personal taste (and we love the Land Rover lineup), the handling of this SUV is simply amazing both on- and off-road. In fact, it's as fast as a race Mini-Cooper on the Nürburgring in Germany. This is our 5th Range Rover and none has ever disappointed us.

I see that you have owned 3 Range Rover Sports, and previously were a BMW enthusiast for years. However, you find the Range Rover to be more classy. You also owned a Porsche Cayenne but missed your Range Rover. I understand that you appreciate the relaxed feeling you get while driving these vehicles, and that you value their real off-road capabilities. It's great to hear that you have never had any problems with your Range Rovers. They truly are classy, relaxed, and capable vehicles.

I love this car! I purchased the V8 supercharged dynamic and I'm impressed with the coach work. The interior is inviting and sporty, and the driving characteristics of the car, especially in dynamic mode, allow you to have a sports car while driving an SUV. The sound from the Meridian system is amazing and makes you want to listen to most of your music loud. I also love the Apple CarPlay feature as it allows me to use all of my Apple features hands-free. The heft and solid feel of the car make you wonder if it's built from a solid block of billet aluminum. I drove all of the new SUVs before buying this one and I have no disappointments. It has a ton of eyeball and the sound to go with it. Looking back, I would've opted for a few more features, but this one is nicely equipped. My previous rover was the V6 with the supercharger and there is no comparison. I also had a Porsche Cayenne diesel which I loved as well. I thought about the diesel motor again for the Rover, but I wanted the sports car feel of the dynamic V-8.

Absolutely amazing vehicle. A masterpiece of form and function. Dealer experience was first class and is what car buying should be, effortless. The quality of this Range Rover is amazing, with top-notch technology and built like a tank. The monster of a V8 engine is every bit as efficient as a high compression turbocharged V6, a testament to British engineering. As an American car buyer, I deviated to support our most loyal ally and trading partner, the good people of the UK! Thank you, Range Rover!
