The Land Rover Range Rover Sport, generally known as the Range Rover Sport, is a mid-size luxury SUV produced under their Land Rover marque, from the British manufacturer Land Rover, and later Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation (codename: L320) started production in 2005, and was replaced by the second generation Sport (codename: L494) in 2013, replaced by the third generation Sport (codename: L461) in 2022.
Range Stormer concept
The Range Rover Sport was prefigured by the Range Stormer concept car, introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.
This was a low-slung, short wheelbase 3-door coupé that was unusually "sporty" in the context of Land Rover's history. Designed by Richard Woolley, the marque's first complete concept car sported split-folding gullwing doors, one-piece skeletal seats, a "clamshell" bonnet, 22 inch alloys, a 289 km/h (180 mph) top speed, 4WD and a 2,500 kg (5,512 lb) weight. The Range Rover Sport was comparably of much more conservative design featuring five doors and a wheelbase hardly shorter than that of the Range Rover Vogue.
A replica of the Stormer was built by West Coast Customs of Corona, CA for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on the occasion of opening West Coast Customs Dubai; the car is currently registered under the Dubai Traffic And Road Authority.
The Range Stormer is now on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2017 Land rover Range rover sport.

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The driver's seat belt emergency locking retractor may not lock as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies" and 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: During hard braking before a crash, the seat belt emergency locking retractor may not lock as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2022. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N678. This recall replaces NHTSA recall number 19V-350. Vehicles previously inspected under recall 19V-350 that did not receive a replacement seat belt assembly will need to have this new recall remedy performed.

- Consequence: If the driver brakes prior to a crash, the ELR will not lock at the correct g-force level, increasing the risk of injury.

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2017 Land Rover Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Discovery vehicles. The fuel gauge on these vehicles may indicate that the fuel level is low and illuminate the warning lamp, when the fuel tank actually has more fuel. The engine management software may also cut off the engine when the vehicle has traveled approximately 17 more miles.
- Consequence: If the engine were to shut off, it can cause loss of power brake assistance. An engine stall would cause a loss of drive power. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will install a software update to correct the fuel level reading, free of charge. The recall began on June 22, 2018. Owners may Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N206.

Edmunds sent me a friendly email asking for an update on my 16' RRS and I thought, why not? Although I traded the RRS in after 14 months and 17k miles, I must say that I loved the RRS. It had incredible performance, handled great, and the gas mileage was 21. The seating was great and comfortable, the Meridian sound was spectacular, and generally speaking, it was a joy to drive in all types of weather. On longer road trips, the RRS was very comfortable. I have a son in college 500 miles away (round trip) who played football, so 10 times (over 2 fall seasons) we did the trip - it was the best ride and the RRS loved to settle in at about 78mph; quiet as a church mouse and stuck to the road like a bad reputation. We recently purchased a beautiful HSE with their expensive silver paint (called halcyon, I believe). Although it was a bit pricey at $1650, we were impressed with the black matte powdercoat rims and the 6 cylinder diesel engine. We traded in our LR4 and are extremely happy with our decision. The HSE is the way to go, especially with the 20 inch rims and sunroof that opens. Our favorite features include the blindspot system, parking package sensors, diesel engine torque/efficiency, and above all else, the heated and cooled seats that are ventilated in beautiful British stitched leather. We cannot believe we ever lived without this luxury! We appreciate the simplicity of the touch pro system and the elegant interior. Everything works seamlessly, including smartphone integration, and we love all the safety features that work behind the scenes. The brakes and transmission are best in class, and the fit and finish are top notch. This is our go-to vehicle for family travel and taking our bikes, skis, or boat on vacation, or simply carrying our bags to the airport. We installed the trailer hitch ourselves, which was easy to do with the truck's simple quick connect for wiring, and saved a lot of money compared to getting it done at the factory. It's a brilliant towing vehicle with diesel for long trips, and etrailer is a great support if you use it for hauling a trailer. We bought the HSE off the lot with every solid option minus the Meridan upgrade because we use our phones and the music sounds great streaming on the stock speakers. We also saw that this model was recently rated in the top 10 for holding resale value, even though we never plan to sell. It's very popular here in CT.The dealer gave us a 4-year maintenance plan for free when we bought the car, which makes owning it cheap and worry-free. We've had an excellent experience with the dealer and service network no matter where we go. Despite the size and weight of this truck, we're averaging an impressive 32 mpg overall, even when towing 5000+ lbs. I highly recommend owning this truck if you can trade up, as Range Rover leases are a waste of money. This is not the Range Rover of old that we all remember. Quality assurance is much better under Tata and exceeds expectations. The truck is also a beast in bad Northeast weather and perfect for mountain trips. We paid cash for the upgrade and plan to keep it forever, well-maintained for our children and stored in the garage daily. I can confidently say that this truck is a good value for all that we get from it, as long as you go in with the right mindset and can afford it. My wife and I are both Jaguar Land Rover buyers/customers for life and passionate about the brand.

I bought a used Td6 Sport in Spring 2020 with around 24,000 miles and have now driven it for just over 50,000 miles. I'm pleased to report that it averages 28 mpg, which is excellent for a car of its weight and performance. What surprised me the most is how well it handles. Even with 50,000 miles on the clock, it still feels tight. And of course, I love the torque and acceleration. It's smooth and relentless, making for a truly engaging driving experience. I frequently use the step-down on the gearbox, which is very quick for an automatic, adding to the fun. I don't miss paddle shifters at all. The smell of the leather is something I appreciate every day. The only thing I wish it had is adaptive cruise control, but I knew that going in. I plan to keep this car for a good while longer.

If you prefer a smaller vehicle, you may want to consider the Honda CR-V instead of this large SUV. However, this SUV is a real head-turner and has many great features. If you don't mind people asking you about your vehicle, then this is the perfect choice for you. The SUV has just over 50K miles and is in excellent condition, with no electrical or performance issues. The supercharged V-6 engine provides ample power when needed. Overall, this SUV is a sweet ride and definitely catches the eye. With careful driving, it's possible to achieve over 20 mpg.

The car looks great! Just a heads up, you may need to replace the brakes, rotors, and tires more frequently than with other vehicles. The stock tires that come with the car tend to wear out between 30-40,000 miles, and the brake pads (front and back) usually need to be replaced around every 12,000 miles, depending on how much you drive. If you need to have them replaced at the dealership, it can cost between $950-$1500.

I ordered a Sport and it was such an enjoyable car, but unfortunately, I had to go to the dealer almost every month to have the DEF fluid system checked. They kept mentioning a software update, but even after the update, the issue persisted. The DEF system was just horrible!

Hello! We've had the RRS for around 6 months and driven less than 4800 miles. Unfortunately, it seems like the car is already in need of servicing. According to the dealership, the cost will exceed $800. This is quite a bit below the 16000 miles promised when we originally purchased the car. We're a bit disappointed that the maintenance cost is triple what was advertised. Just a heads up for anyone considering purchasing this car - it may end up being a bit of a money pit. Firstly, it seems that the voice navigation direction was not included or was not working properly. Unfortunately, the available apps are not very useful and I have had trouble with all of the navigational apps despite spending hours trying to learn them. If I had known that this car did not have a reliable navigation voice assist software, I would have reconsidered my purchase. I would recommend checking that the navigation system works before making a purchase. The manufacturer has promised an update to the software, but so far it has not been released.

This is my first Range Rover and I recently received my 2016 Range Rover Sports SE. Although I did not upgrade the audio system, I was disappointed with the quality of the standard radio. As someone who enjoys listening to music, I found the speakers to be of poor quality. However, I am pleased with the car's driving performance. While the incontrol app system could use some improvement, overall the car is a great choice.
