2006 Cadillac Srx problems
The Cadillac SRX is a mid-size luxury SUV and compact luxury crossover SUV (CUV) manufactured and marketed by Cadillac over two generations: the first generation as a five-door, three-row, seven-passenger CUV (2003–2009), and the second generation as a five-door, two-row, five-passenger CUV (2010–2016) – the latter becoming Cadillac's best selling model in the United States.
First generation (2004)
Engine options included the 255 hp (190 kW) High-Feature V6 and the 4.6 L 320 hp (239 kW) Northstar V8. It was based on the GM Sigma platform and came with a five or six-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive and MagneRide were available. As a Sigma platform vehicle, the first generation SRX had a longitudinally mounted front engine, longitudinal transmission mounted behind the engine, and a rear drive differential. The AWD option was implemented with a transfer case mounted to the rear of the transmission, with a propeller shaft forward to a front differential to power the front wheels.
An all-leather interior and curtain side airbags were standard in both models. Heated front seats and wood interior trim were standard in the V8 and available as options in the V6. DVD, sunroof, navigation system, and a power foldable third-row seat were all available options. However the third row was no longer available for the 2010 model year on the SRX.
The base price was US$38,880 for the V6 and US$45,880 for the V8 version.
The SRX won Car and Driver's Five Best Trucks "luxury SUV" award for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2004.
The first generation SRX never had the V Series performance model available.
The first generation SRX was available through the 2009 model year.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found the 2005-08 SRX worst in its class for driver fatalities with a death rate of 63 compared to its class average of 23.

Common 2006 Cadillac Srx problems
The Cadillac SRX, produced between 2004 and 2016, has been a popular choice for families due to its spacious interior and advanced features. However, some model years have been associated with specific issues that have affected their reliability.
- Loose Toe Link: Cadillac has issued a recall for SRXs made between 2010 and 2016 due to a loose toe link. This problem can cause the vehicle to lose control at highway speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Suspension Problems: The Cadillac SRX is known for its suspension issues, which can lead to excessive noise, trouble maintaining ride height, increased stopping distance, and other problems. These issues can be costly to repair, as air suspension components are expensive to replace.
- Lights Problems: The 2010 Cadillac SRX has the most overall complaints, with the most-reported problem being water in lights. This issue can lead to costly repairs, with an average cost to fix of $1,600 and an average mileage of 80,000 mi.
- Steering Wheel Position Sensor Failure: This issue has been reported by several Cadillac SRX owners, particularly for models produced between 2004 and 2015. This problem can make it difficult to control the vehicle, posing a significant safety risk.
- Transmission Problems: Some 2011 Cadillac SRX owners have reported premature shift cable failure, which can cause the vehicle to roll and crash if it doesn't shift to 'park' properly.
- Engine Problems: The 3.0L V6 engine in the Cadillac SRX can suffer from timing chain stretch, which can damage the engine if not fixed promptly. Additionally, the Check Engine Light may come on frequently due to problems with the camshaft position sensor, open or broken gas caps, and other issues.
- CUE System Problems: The Cadillac User Experience (CUE) entertainment system can be buggy, with problems like tablet lag, buttons that don't work, and system crashes.
- Headlight Condensation: Water buildup inside the headlights can cause them to become dim, foggy, or experience electrical problems.
- Broken Liftgate: The liftgate may not open or close properly, or the hinges may start to leak, causing problems with the vehicle's functionality and safety.
- Sunroof Malfunction: The sunroof may make a grinding noise when operating, which can be a sign of a sunroof motor complaint. If the sunroof doesn't close completely, it can ruin the interiors of the car on a rainy or snowy day.
- *Cadillac SRX, though not a luxury vehicle, was a family car. The SUV was discontinued in 2016 and replaced by the Compact XT5. Our list of Cadillac SRX years to avoid will help you navigate the junk to find the gem.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-03-01
- VIN: 1GYEE637060
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: 2006 Cadillac SRX turn signals burn out within months or replacement. I made 2 videos of me fixing it, put on YouTube with over 35, 000 views. That must mean there are lots of folks with this problem that don't know where to report it. While driving, the indicator flashes a bit faster than it should - the only clue it isn't working. You think other drivers know your intentions and they don't. This is dangerous. Mechanics have to pull the bumper, a bit of work, and want over $300 to change the bulb. Over and over again. This is the 5th time in 3 years. 2nd problem is the "Stability System" - well, I'm not driving on ice, have never needed such a thing. This one nearly cause me to crash into a curb or parked car as I was making a left hand turn in our residential neighborhood at what 15 mph? Suddenly the wheel locked, tires locked and sent me screeching dangerously close to that parked car. It does have a warning, "Service Stability System" but the dealer will want a lot for that, too. So I've resorted to pushing the Disable button on the console until it says, "Stability System Off" then I can drive safely. I have not had this inspected. Everything that gets fixed on this Cadillac seems to break again.

2006 Cadillac Srx recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2006 Cadillac Srx.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT:SEAL
- Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE REAR AXLE PINION SEAL DOES NOT MEET ALL OF THE SPECIFICATIONS AND MAY EXPERIENCE A FLUID LEAK.
- Consequence: A REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE MAY CAUSE LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER AND POSSIBLY LOSS OF CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PINION SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 1, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-800-458-8006 OR HTTP://WWW.CADILLAC.COM; PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668 OR HTTP://WWW.PONTIAC.COM; AND SATURN AT 1-800-972-8876 OR HTTP://WWW.SATURN.COM.
- Manufacturer: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
- Components: WHEELS:RIM
- Summary: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES AND TRUCKS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS." THESE VEHICLES HAVE AN INCOMPLETE TIRE RIM DESIGNATION ON THE CERTIFICATION/TIRE LABEL LOCATED ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR EDGE. IN ADDITION, THE LABEL MAY ALSO BE MISSING THE TIRE LOAD RATING ON THE LABEL. ALTHOUGH THIS INFORMATION IS NOT REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD, IF A TIRE OF A LESSER LOAD RATING IS INSTALLED, THE TIRE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SUSTAIN THE LOADS ENCOUNTERED DURING USE.
- Consequence: IF A CUSTOMER REPLACES A WHEEL AND ONLY RELIES ON THE RIM SIZE DESIGNATION THAT IS INDICATED ON THE LABEL, A WHEEL THAT IS OF A DIFFERENT RIM CONTOUR DESIGNATION MAY BE INSTALLED. IT MAY BE DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO MOUNT THE TIRE ON A WHEEL WITH THE WRONG CONTOUR. IF THE TIRE IS MOUNTED ON THE WHEEL WITH THE WRONG CONTOUR, THE WHEEL AND TIRE MAY NOT PERFORM AS INTENDED, WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: A LABEL THAT WILL CORRECT THE LABEL ORIGINALLY INSTALLED WILL BE MAILED TO CONSUMERS ALONG WITH INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. THE CUSTOMER WILL HAVE THE OPTION FOR DEALERS TO INSTALL THE LABEL. THE RECALL BEGAON ON NOVEMBER 7, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2239, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, AND GMC TRUCKS AT 1-866-996-9463.

I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed your SRX on most levels. It sounds like it's been a joy to drive and it has a great look and feel of understated elegance. It's great that the SRX appeals to all the drivers in your family. I understand your concern about fuel consumption, but overall it sounds like you've had a positive experience with your fully loaded SRX.

This SUV handles more like a car than an SUV. I've had it for seven months and I love it! You feel like you're driving a sports car even though you're not.
-
I recently had my 2006 Cadillac SRX delivered from California. It was the only one available in the U.S. with the black exterior, black interior, trailer hitch, DVD entertainment system, navigation, and V8. I've only had it for a month, but it's been amazing. The sport-tuned suspension works like a charm, along with the magnetic ride control and traction control.

Congratulations on your new 'white diamond' SRX! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the thinner rocker sills and power hatch lift. The 6-cylinder engine provides impressive power and smoothness, and the 5-speed automatic transmission is a great addition. It's wonderful to hear that you haven't had any problems with your vehicle in the 6 weeks since you purchased it.

I've driven my V6 AWD SRX for over 60,000 miles and I absolutely love it! The comfort, handling, and performance in adverse weather conditions are all top-notch. It's such a relief to feel safe and secure when driving with kids or on long trips. Although I'm a big fan of station wagons, the SRX is even better with its luxurious feel. It handles great in snow, mud, and on slippery roads, making it the perfect all-rounder. I chose the SRX over my first choice, the Acura MDX, because of its better looks, ability to run on regular gas, and sporty handling.

This is my first Cadillac and overall, I have been very pleased with its ride, handling, and performance. However, due to my job as a salesperson, I drive over 35K miles per year and unfortunately, my SRX burns a quart of oil every 1.5K miles. It seems as often as I put gas in, I put in oil. Despite my disappointment, I have decided to trade it in for another SUV. I hope to find a vehicle that better suits my needs.
