The separate B8 Passat model entered production in Europe in 2014, based on the MQB platform.
In 2019, the Passat NMS program was split into two as the North American one continued being produced on an older platform while the Chinese Passat moved on to the MQB platform, which resulted in Volkswagen marketed three models under the Passat nameplate globally at that time. The North American Passat was discontinued after the 2022 model year.
Volkswagen ended the production of the saloon Passat for the European market in 2022. The B9 Passat, released in 2023, is only available in an estate body style. The Passat continues to be available as a saloon in China.

- Summary: While driving car began to jerk and had odd smell. Stopped at a Midas to have car looked at and all of the transmission fluid leaked out. Techs at Midas state the gasket that hold the fluid in came out and caused all the fluid to leak out. Had no issues while driving previous to this, this just happened randomly in the middle of our drive. We did jot hit or run over anything and the road we were traveling on was in good paved condition.

- Summary: I keep adding oil and the dealership says there’s nothing wrong. For electric problems the speakers have static noise and the screen goes black and turns on hours later. I took in my recently they said there wasn’t any problems with the car but I literally deal with it everyday. I told them my car shakes when I brake on high speed they said they checked car but found no issues I personally do not feel safe driving my car at all.

- Summary: Brakes are on this care are failing well in advance of typical cars. My car's rear brakes are measuring at a 2 with just over 20,000 miles on the vehicle. When we asked the dealership about this, they said the Passat is just "hard on rear brakes." We had a previous Passat and did not experience this issue. This is unsafe and unreasonable to expect these brakes wearing out at less than half of what is expected. Ironically, my husband's Taos - of the same model year - is doing the same.

- Summary: The steering tightens up at times when decelerating between 30 - 42 mph. This has occurred three times now since purchase of the vehicle new. My vehicle database feedback notes no repairs needed; just check of vehicle at 20,000 miles and oil change at 10,000 miles. I am subscribed to the vehicle's car-net data monitoring system since purchase of the vehicle new from the dealership. The monitoring system notes GPS location, speed travelling, etc. When this steering condition occurs it is as if power to the steering is lost for about 0.7 - 1.2 seconds. It is as if driving in a vehicle that has an electrical system controlling the power functioning of the steering and there is a loss of electrical feedback to the steering. I have driven over 100 vehicles and this vehicle does have a problem with the steering system. There is a noticeable pull back on the vehicle when the automatic shifts down and this steering issue may or may not be related to the automatic transmission downshifting mechanisms.

I really like the Passat, but I do notice that it has more road and wind noise compared to other cars in its class. Perhaps it would be even better if it had double layer windows.

Congratulations on your purchase of a low mileage certified Passat SE! The seats look like leather but are actually much more durable, which is great. It's good to hear that the car has been reliable and fuel efficient. It's also smart to plan ahead for upgrading the tires and shocks when needed. Changing the oil at 6 months/6,000 miles is a great idea for a turbo engine. The clean styling and bright LED headlights are definitely a plus. I had a 2014 Passat TDI SEL and it was my first VW. I absolutely loved it! Although I sold it because I was nearing 90k miles and I didn’t want to deal with any problems with DPF, that car will always hold a special place in my heart. It was losing all of its warranties, warranties that saved me thousands, and that car had a problem every year. But despite all of that, I still loved her. Recently, I bought a red 2020 Passat SEL and although it looks drastically different on the outside, the inside is the same old Passat we all know and love. It feels a little nostalgic and that doesn't bother me at all. This car has many upgrades from the 2014 model, such as blind spot, lane assist, automatic high beams, heated rear seats, parking sensors, automated cruise control, and more. However, two things that really surprised me are the fact that this car uses a prop rod to hold up the hood, and the fuel door doesn’t lock when the car is locked. What gives? Those were some of my favorite parts about my old vehicle. But, the power folding mirrors and easy open kick trunk make up for it. Also, it feels great to finally have LED headlights. They are so bright and even do a little dance when you turn the vehicle on!

Hello! Recently, I purchased a new 20-year Passat R line with finance from Volkswagen. Since my existing car broke down in August, I was thinking about buying a new one. I heard that there is a Korean dealer in Atlanta and, as I like Volkswagen, I thought about buying from them. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away from late September to October, so I had to go to Korea in a hurry. When I returned to Atlanta on Saturday the 10th, I visited an Atlanta Volkswagen dealership to buy a car. Even though the car I liked on the internet was not stocked yet, I was told to write the contract first. After test-driving the car with the same color option trim, I bought it at the end of 5 hours and came back to Montgomery, Alabama. Although I had too much luggage, I was feeling complacent. However, when I arrived home and checked the exterior and interior of the car, I found that the car had black marks and A-pillar scratch trunk hinges that could not be restored. Additionally, the tire balance and wheel alignment were not fitting well for my daily commute. When I told the dealer about these issues, he was able to inspect the car quickly and said that the Passat car was perfect. He even offered to test-drive with me when I come back to Atlanta. As a first-time buyer, I didn't know about the other options (accessories), so I thought it was the original condition that my car had no tints and leather protectors. When I asked the dealer how much tint it was, he said it was $399. I thought that since it's a new car, I had to invest. Thank you for your time and help!When I got home, I discovered that the contract did not include basic tanning and leather seat protection. After contacting the dealer, he admitted his mistake and offered to take care of it when I come up to Atlanta for a car problem and tinting. Although I was initially frustrated, I am grateful to work in the quality department of the car manufacturing industry and have knowledgeable coworkers. I almost fell for the dealer's mistake, but I am glad I caught it. I have documented all the facts, and I am wondering if I can get a refund or exchange by contacting Volkswagen headquarters. I would appreciate any help or advice. Additionally, I have noticed some issues with the trim in the rear seat's door and too many sealers in the driver's compartment, which suggests that the car was not inspected properly or may be defective.

Although I have had a long-standing love for VW, my experience with the 2022 Passat Limited has been disappointing. Despite having purchased it brand new, I have encountered numerous issues with the brakes, transmission, steering, tires, and center entertainment system. Despite having had it serviced, the transmission continues to drop in and out of gear, and the entertainment system intermittently fails to come on. I am currently waiting to have it serviced yet again. While my experience with this car has been negative, I would still recommend VW as a brand overall.

Despite four visits to the dealership and 19k miles on the car, the issue of poor acceleration persists. The technician discovered a small oil leak from the turbo seal, which was promptly addressed. However, the problem still persists even after turning off the driver assistance features as recommended by the technician. It is clear that further investigation is required to resolve this issue.

I hope you enjoyed your rental of the 2022 Passat for several days! While I found it to be spacious, I did notice that it was a bit underpowered and lagged when accelerating. Additionally, I noticed that it had more road noise than my 2007 Honda Accord. However, I did appreciate that it was economical on gas.
