Developed to increase Volkswagen sales in North America, the Passat NMS is larger and cost less to produce. sold in the North America, South Korea, China, and Middle East. The separate B8 Passat model entered production in Europe in 2014, based on the MQB platform.
In 2019, the Passat NMS program was split into two as the North American one continued being produced on an older platform while the Chinese Passat moved on to the MQB platform, which resulted in Volkswagen marketed three models under the Passat nameplate globally at that time. The North American Passat was discontinued after the 2022 model year.
Volkswagen ended the production of the saloon Passat for the European market in 2022. The B9 Passat, released in 2023, is only available in an estate body style. The Passat continues to be available as a saloon in China.

- Summary: While driving car began to jerk and had odd smell. Stopped at a Midas to have car looked at and all of the transmission fluid leaked out. Techs at Midas state the gasket that hold the fluid in came out and caused all the fluid to leak out. Had no issues while driving previous to this, this just happened randomly in the middle of our drive. We did jot hit or run over anything and the road we were traveling on was in good paved condition.

- Summary: I keep adding oil and the dealership says there’s nothing wrong. For electric problems the speakers have static noise and the screen goes black and turns on hours later. I took in my recently they said there wasn’t any problems with the car but I literally deal with it everyday. I told them my car shakes when I brake on high speed they said they checked car but found no issues I personally do not feel safe driving my car at all.

- Summary: Brakes are on this care are failing well in advance of typical cars. My car's rear brakes are measuring at a 2 with just over 20,000 miles on the vehicle. When we asked the dealership about this, they said the Passat is just "hard on rear brakes." We had a previous Passat and did not experience this issue. This is unsafe and unreasonable to expect these brakes wearing out at less than half of what is expected. Ironically, my husband's Taos - of the same model year - is doing the same.

- Summary: The steering tightens up at times when decelerating between 30 - 42 mph. This has occurred three times now since purchase of the vehicle new. My vehicle database feedback notes no repairs needed; just check of vehicle at 20,000 miles and oil change at 10,000 miles. I am subscribed to the vehicle's car-net data monitoring system since purchase of the vehicle new from the dealership. The monitoring system notes GPS location, speed travelling, etc. When this steering condition occurs it is as if power to the steering is lost for about 0.7 - 1.2 seconds. It is as if driving in a vehicle that has an electrical system controlling the power functioning of the steering and there is a loss of electrical feedback to the steering. I have driven over 100 vehicles and this vehicle does have a problem with the steering system. There is a noticeable pull back on the vehicle when the automatic shifts down and this steering issue may or may not be related to the automatic transmission downshifting mechanisms.

This 2022 is my third Passat. The safety features that come standard make this car a great value. It has that solid German feel and a good range of 400+ miles. The interior is superb. Nice job, VW!

I had a 2014 Passat that I initially disliked when I first drove it. However, after adjusting the steering wheel and seat, I had a change of heart. When I drove it home after purchasing it, I felt terrible and thought I had made a mistake. At first, it felt like a cheap rental car. But as I got used to it, I began to love it. The same goes for this one. I absolutely love the motor, it's so much fun to drive. Although it does shake when it warms up and misses, the salesman says his Jetta does the same thing. The car may have some minor flaws, but the overall experience is what matters to me. The sum of the individual pieces is greater than the parts themselves.

My first Passat was a 2008, driven to 230,000 miles. I knew I would eventually own another, so when I found this 2020 Passat, it was inevitable. I am very pleased with the engineering, handling, overall look, and luxury. Thank you, Volkswagen.

I really like the Passat, but I do notice that it has more road and wind noise compared to other cars in its class. Perhaps it would be even better if it had double layer windows.

The Passat has some room for improvement in terms of power and sound insulation, but it offers great interior space for tall people and durable seating material. While some may argue that German cars are superior, my experience with the Passat has not been as positive as with my two Toyota Camrys. However, with some engineering changes, the Passat could become a more competitive option in the market. It's worth noting that VW may be focusing more on their electric models rather than improving their internal combustion models.

My wife and I recently purchased two cars from VW of Ontario. I got the 2020 Jetta GLI and she got the 2020 Passat R-Line. Although we got decent deals, her car has unfortunately experienced some electrical issues. We have had a few problems with the car, such as the car pulling to the right and the radio turning off unexpectedly. We have taken the car to the dealership and they have tried to fix the issues, but unfortunately, they still persist. Despite these issues, we still find the car enjoyable to drive. ***UPDATE*** The car was returned to VW under the lemon law.

Hello! Recently, I purchased a new 20-year Passat R line with finance from Volkswagen. Since my existing car broke down in August, I was thinking about buying a new one. I heard that there is a Korean dealer in Atlanta and, as I like Volkswagen, I thought about buying from them. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away from late September to October, so I had to go to Korea in a hurry. When I returned to Atlanta on Saturday the 10th, I visited an Atlanta Volkswagen dealership to buy a car. Even though the car I liked on the internet was not stocked yet, I was told to write the contract first. After test-driving the car with the same color option trim, I bought it at the end of 5 hours and came back to Montgomery, Alabama. Although I had too much luggage, I was feeling complacent. However, when I arrived home and checked the exterior and interior of the car, I found that the car had black marks and A-pillar scratch trunk hinges that could not be restored. Additionally, the tire balance and wheel alignment were not fitting well for my daily commute. When I told the dealer about these issues, he was able to inspect the car quickly and said that the Passat car was perfect. He even offered to test-drive with me when I come back to Atlanta. As a first-time buyer, I didn't know about the other options (accessories), so I thought it was the original condition that my car had no tints and leather protectors. When I asked the dealer how much tint it was, he said it was $399. I thought that since it's a new car, I had to invest. Thank you for your time and help!When I got home, I discovered that the contract did not include basic tanning and leather seat protection. After contacting the dealer, he admitted his mistake and offered to take care of it when I come up to Atlanta for a car problem and tinting. Although I was initially frustrated, I am grateful to work in the quality department of the car manufacturing industry and have knowledgeable coworkers. I almost fell for the dealer's mistake, but I am glad I caught it. I have documented all the facts, and I am wondering if I can get a refund or exchange by contacting Volkswagen headquarters. I would appreciate any help or advice. Additionally, I have noticed some issues with the trim in the rear seat's door and too many sealers in the driver's compartment, which suggests that the car was not inspected properly or may be defective.

Although I have had a long-standing love for VW, my experience with the 2022 Passat Limited has been disappointing. Despite having purchased it brand new, I have encountered numerous issues with the brakes, transmission, steering, tires, and center entertainment system. Despite having had it serviced, the transmission continues to drop in and out of gear, and the entertainment system intermittently fails to come on. I am currently waiting to have it serviced yet again. While my experience with this car has been negative, I would still recommend VW as a brand overall.
