1997 Chrysler Lhs problems

The Chrysler LHS is a full-size luxury four-door sedan that was produced by Chrysler for the 1994 through the 2001 model years, with a one-year hiatus for 1998. It replaced the Chrysler Imperial and the Chrysler Fifth Avenue as the division's flagship model. The LHS was rebadged as the Concorde Limited for the 2002 model year.

First generation (1994–1997)

Introduced in May 1993 for the 1994 model year, the Chrysler LHS was the top of the line model for the division, as well as the most expensive of the Chrysler LH platform cars. All the LH-series models shared a 113.0-inch (2,870 mm) wheelbase and were developed using Chrysler's new computer drafting system.

The car was differentiated from the division's New Yorker sedan by its bucket leather seats (the New Yorker had a bench seat) and standard features such as alloy wheels that were options on the New Yorker. Further differences between the Chrysler LHS and its New Yorker counterpart were a floor console and shifter, five-passenger seating, lack of chrome trim, an upgraded interior, and a sportier image. From the 1996 model year on the New Yorker was dropped in favor of a six-passenger option on the LHS. The LHS received a minor face change in 1995 when the corporate-wide Pentastar emblem was replaced with the revived Chrysler brand emblem.

Standard features of the LHS included a 3.5 L EGE 24-valve 214 hp (160 kW; 217 PS) V6 engine, body-colored grille, side mirrors and trim, traction control, aluminum wheels, integrated fog lights, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, premium sound systems with amplifiers, and automatic temperature control. Unlike the New Yorker, leather seats were standard.

Common 1997 Chrysler Lhs problems

The Chrysler LHS, produced in 1997, is a full-size luxury sedan that has been praised for its comfort and refinement. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:

  1. Transmission Problems: Transmission issues are a common complaint among Chrysler LHS owners. Some have reported that their cars have trouble shifting, while others have experienced transmission slipping or failure. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including low transmission fluid levels, worn-out clutch plates, or faulty solenoids. In some cases, a transmission replacement may be necessary.
  2. Fuel System Issues: Fuel system problems are another common issue with the Chrysler LHS. Some owners have reported fuel leaks, which can be caused by faulty fuel lines, fuel pumps, or fuel injectors. These leaks can be dangerous and should be addressed immediately. In addition, some LHS owners have reported issues with fuel efficiency, with some cars getting significantly worse gas mileage than others.
  3. Suspension Problems: Suspension issues are also common in the Chrysler LHS. Some owners have reported problems with the car's suspension components, such as struts, shocks, and bushings. These issues can cause a rough ride, poor handling, and decreased stability. In some cases, suspension components may need to be replaced to address these issues.
  4. Seat Problems: Seat problems are a common complaint among Chrysler LHS owners. Some have reported issues with the car's seats, such as seat adjustment problems, seat comfort issues, and seat belt problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty seat components, worn-out seat belts, or improper seat adjustment.
  5. Electrical Problems: Electrical issues are also common in the Chrysler LHS. Some owners have reported problems with the car's electrical system, such as blown fuses, electrical shorts, and malfunctioning sensors. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty wiring, blown fuses, or malfunctioning sensors.
  6. Frame Problems: Frame issues are a less common but still significant problem in the Chrysler LHS. Some owners have reported problems with the car's frame, such as frame rust or damage. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including exposure to the elements, accidents, or improper maintenance.

It's important to note that not all Chrysler LHS vehicles will experience these problems, and many will last for many years without any major issues. However, if you're considering purchasing a used LHS, it's a good idea to have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential issues before making a purchase.

Negative 1997 Chrysler Lhs car reviews

  1. Alexie Schumm 2024-11-04

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my LHS. My father actually bought it brand new and never had any issues with it. When I took over ownership at 32,000 miles, it was running great! However, I did run into a few problems down the line. The AC stopped working at 62,000 miles, and then the water pump went out at around 72,000 miles, which caused some other issues. Unfortunately, the transmission went out at around 90,000 miles, and I've had to spend quite a bit on repairs - at least $4,000. I'm not sure whether to keep it or trade it in and take a loss. What do you think?

  2. Darwin Dare 2024-09-14

Although my experience with this car has been challenging, I can confidently say that I have gained a lot of knowledge about car maintenance and repair. Over the course of 50,000 miles, I have had to address several issues, including 8 fluid leaks, a water pump replacement, fuel pump replacement, front rotor replacement (twice), right side tie rod end replacement, left side sway bar replacement, transmission overhaul, and a leaking air conditioner compressor. While these repairs have been frustrating, I am confident in my ability to handle any future car issues that may arise.

  3. Gus Strosin 2024-06-08

We had this car for just over a year. We bought it used with 60k miles. It was running fine until a relay failed on the cooling fan, which caused a series of overheating issues, ultimately leading to head warping. Unfortunately, the car spent more time in the repair shop than in our garage for 3 months. We eventually decided to sell it and buy another Oldsmobile.

  4. Torrey Luettgen 2024-01-08

Hey there! So, I woke up one day to find my car sitting in the driveway. It started up three times, but then the battery cables gave out. Before I had it fixed, there were some power surges, but luckily I'm pretty handy with cars. The motor is actually really good, and I'm able to fix it myself when it breaks down. The A/C leaks onto the floor of the interior, but that's just because of a blocked vent - an easy fix! Unfortunately, the heater doesn't work at all and it would cost too much to have it fixed.

Positive 1997 Chrysler Lhs car reviews

  1. Mckenna Fisher 2024-11-27

I love this car! It's so roomy and comfortable, and the gas mileage is great. Plus, there's plenty of trunk space for two sets of clubs, including carts! It handles like a dream, especially in snow and ice. I really think Chrysler had a good thing going with the LHS, and it's a shame they discontinued it. Even the back seat passenger can enjoy a comfortable ride on long trips.

  2. Ethel Lesch 2024-10-25

I absolutely adore Ford cars and trucks! In my short 20 years on this earth, I have owned 5 of them and I have loved every single one. However, when it came time to purchase my 6th vehicle, I decided to consider other makes of cars. I wasn't interested in GM products though, bleh! During my search for a new car, I came across a 1999 Ford Escort. It was a smoker's car and there were too many small things that made me question it. So, I decided to look at other car lots and found a Chrysler LHS for under $3,000. I fell in love with it from the start and after driving it, looking it over, and chatting with the dealer, I was able to negotiate a discount of $100 or so. I drove it 250 miles back home without any problems. It's a great Chrysler product for sure, a nice luxury car that can easily compete with a Cadillac!

  3. Jadon Wuckert 2024-10-01

Your Chrysler LHS is a beast! It's amazing that it's still going strong after 250,000 miles.

  4. Ezra Lebsack 2024-08-22

I purchased my LHS three months ago and I am extremely satisfied with it. The trunk is very spacious and can easily accommodate at least four large bags. The back seat provides ample legroom for passengers of any size. The car has a classy design both inside and out, and it's hard to believe it's 10 years old. The interior was designed with comfort in mind, and the ride is smooth and comfortable. The only issue I have encountered is the gas mileage, which averages around 13 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. However, other posts suggest that this may be unique to my car. Overall, this is a great looking car with a smooth and comfortable ride.

This car is one of the most comfortable autos I have ever owned, and I've owned over 25 cars from MB to Cadillac. It handles well, and I've only needed one service. When an engine light came on while driving through North Dakota, we were able to get it fixed in under an hour while we waited in a little town. We've driven it from California to Minnesota to Yellowstone to Florida, through mountains, deserts, and everywhere in between. On our last trip from Vacaville to Orlando (3150 miles), we averaged over 27 MPG for the whole trip, even with my wife and I both having a heavy foot. It's a great car!
