2022 Jeep Wrangler problems
The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.
The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Although neither AMC nor Chrysler (after it purchased AMC in 1987) have claimed that the Wrangler was a direct descendant of the original military model — both the CJ Jeeps and the conceptually consistent Wrangler, with their solid axles and open top, have been called the Jeep model as central to Jeep's brand identity as the rear-engine 911 is to Porsche.
Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.
From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

Common 2022 Jeep Wrangler problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, several common problems have been reported:
- Engine Issues:
Reports include engine stalling, unexpected shutdowns during operation, and noise from the engine. One severe incident involved the Wrangler switching from electric to hybrid mode, leading to a complete engine shutdown while driving on the highway, causing a near-accident situation with other vehicles.
- Electrical System Woes:
The Wrangler has faced challenges with its electrical system, with complaints ranging from electronics randomly shutting off, infotainment system glitches, to problems with the start-stop system. These issues can impact the overall functionality and safety of the vehicle.
- Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) Failure:
The TIPM is responsible for controlling various electronic functions in the vehicle. Issues with the TIPM have led to problems like power windows malfunctioning, engine stalling, and airbags deploying unexpectedly. Replacement of the TIPM can be costly and crucial due to the wide-ranging consequences of its failure.
- Automatic Transmission Issues:
Since 2005, owners have reported problems with the automatic transmission, including the vehicle getting stuck in one gear. This issue can be particularly dangerous at high speeds. While Jeep covers the cost of repairs for these transmission issues, they have been subject to several recalls that can take a significant amount of time to address.
- Engine Popping (Backfiring):
Common in the second generation of the Wrangler (1997-2006), engine popping or backfiring can occur due to issues like improper combustion of fuel outside the combustion chamber. This can lead to power loss, engine damage, decreased fuel efficiency, and potential safety hazards. Timely inspection and repair are recommended to prevent further damage.
These problems highlight various concerns with the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, ranging from drivetrain and engine issues to electrical system malfunctions and specific component failures. Owners experiencing these issues should seek professional assistance to address them promptly and ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles.

STEERING,SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-23
- VIN: 1C4JJXP66NW
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The manufacturer has not been able to remedy the batteries for electrical propulsion, saying "no remedy available ". Makes me hesitant to drive or park near other vehicles or structures. I have also complained to the dealership, where I purchased my Jeep, about a wobble/shake in the front-end when driving over bumps. After two attempts they have not been able to find a reason for or repair my vehicle. When driving in rain, this condition makes control a dangerous issue in heavy traffic. The most recent occurance was on [XXX] where the posted speed limit is 80mp, accompanied by heavy 18 wheeler traffic! I have also experienced the wobble/shake when traveling [XXX] from Texas to Louisiana, in the rain, surrounded by heavy automobile & 18 wheel traffic once again. This is a very stressful and uncomfortable situation to be in. I have experienced the wobble/shake soon after the purchase of my Jeep, still exists after several mechanical inspections at the dealership where purchased. I have also written a letter to the manufacturer, dated August 22, 2024, for these issues & the devaluation that exists with this particular model, to date I have not received a response! There is no excuse for the inability to repair or respond to my concerns! I have a copy of my letter to Customer Care for Stellantis & recall & repair documents; I am unable to upload at this time. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-25

- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I am writing to file a complaint regarding the recent safety recall (NHTSA Recall Numbers: 24V-720 and 24E-080) affecting my Chrysler vehicle. The recall pertains to a potential fire risk associated with the high-voltage battery pack. While I appreciate Chrysler’s efforts to address this safety concern, I have serious reservations about the effectiveness of the proposed remedy. 1.Safety Concerns: I am worried about the safety of my vehicle’s battery. The recall notice indicated that a battery pack may contain cells with separator damage that could lead to a vehicle fire. I find it concerning that the proposed remedy primarily involves a software update and inspection, rather than an immediate battery replacement, especially given the potential risks involved. 2.Request for Action: I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further and consider whether the proposed remedy adequately addresses the safety risks posed by the high-voltage battery. I believe that consumers deserve clear information and effective solutions when it comes to potential safety defects in their vehicles. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response regarding the steps being taken to address this safety concern.

POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-20
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1C4JJXP60NW
- Components: POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I have a 2022 Wrangler 4xe. This weekend I rear ended a car in stop and go traffic. When I used the brake it actually felt like the car jumped forward a bit. I had to stomp on the brake pedal again as if my first attempt had no grab. More details...I was in hybrid mode with <1% battery status and max regen was on. I was going less than 10 miles an hour. Jeep has a max regeneration function that uses the engine to generate an EV battery recharge. I understand that the max regen sort of turns off when you are rolling at really low speeds, but it seems the transition to/from this is rough on the transmission or something. This only happens at low speeds (in parking lots, etc) This behavior happens intermittently but, this is the first time I was not able to stop completely before an impact occured.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-14
- VIN: 1C4JJXR65NW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On February 14, 2023, as I was driving home from work at 4:30 pm, and luckily stopped at a traffic light, my Jeep shut down and showed a charging fault while I was nowhere near a charger. I was eventually able to restart the vehicle and make it the rest of the way home. We had the software updated, so hopefully that does not happen again. I was about halfway between my place of work and my home, which are about 8 mailes apart. My vehicle had 5373 miles on it at the time of the incident. Now my car is yet again under recall at risk of fire due to the battery and I am scared to drive it and have it near my home.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-10
- VIN: 1C4JJXR65NW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: We recently got the Jeep back from being serviced for a problem (P0E15-00) that seems to be a common issue with a part (hybrid/EV battery pack coolant heater) that breaks every 15-30k miles. Yay! Ours was at just over 17k miles. Now, on top of all of this, I receive a notice for our fourth recall in 2 years, for a battery that could randomly catch fire and there is no fix known yet. The charger for the Jeep is literally right outside my children's bedrooms. If I want to charge my vehicle, I am potentially risking a fire right next to where my kids sleep. If I don't plug in, the whole point of us picking the plug-in hybrid is a total waste of our money. I also have to park next to an apartment building, let alone my other coworkers' vehicles when I go to work. I now feel like my vehicle is a ticking time bomb. I would love to be able to end my lease early to get out of this nightmare. At the very least is there an option for a loaner vehicle or rental reimbursement until this potentially extremely dangerous issue is repaired?

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-08
- VIN: 1C4JJXR65NW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: 22’ JEEP 4xE LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER Vehicle wouldn’t start for approximately 15 minutes. Showed charging system error and a battery light was on. Once vehicle started it was driven 5 minutes, parked and turned off. Within 30 minutes it was started again, and driven down the street when it lost power and indicated the speed was limited. I attempted to turn around to get back and park it when it quit in the middle of an intersection. Vehicle had a message to put it in park. I did. It wouldn’t restart or go into neutral to even push it out of the road. After about 10 minutes it started and I drove it back. It kept losing throttle and rolled opposite direction down a hill while in gear and still running. The throttle intermittently would work and rev then move forward. I backed it uphill into my driveway with it continued to roll forward and then rev the engine and reverse. When it losses power to the pedal it doesn’t rev the engine and will roll. Instrument panel and lights/entertainment still work when it does this. Mine and my children’s safety were put at risk. We called the dealer where we purchased from ‘Orangeville Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram - 207163 Highway 9 East, Orangeville ON L9W 2Z7’ was told to bring it in. I said it was extremely dangerous and unsafe to drive. I asked for them to have it towed in and they refuse to pay for the towing. We mentioned a query into safety recall 22V-865 by ODI we found but they stated it was unknown to them and VIN didn’t show an open recall. We are without a vehicle as it sits in the driveway presently. (incident may be related) In nov 2023, about 9 months prior to this my [XXX] daughter was driving with my 9 and 11 y/o in the back seats and went into a ditch, damaging the front passenger fender, front bumper and hood. She mentioned something happened to the car and she lost control. There was no police report for this. There were engine lights on. We called a tow to get it out. The engine light went away on it own. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SERVICE BRAKES,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-19
- VIN: 1C4GJXAG6NW
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SERVICE BRAKES,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: There is a confirmed recall 92A for the gear position sensor on my 2022 Jeep Wrangler. I took it to River Oaks dealership in Houston to have the recall work done in March 2024. They told me the work was complete; I returned to pick up my vehicle and found out the work had not been done because they didn't have the parts, so I took my vehicle home. I'm now told that they actually ordered the parts for the recall without telling me, and I was never informed that the parts arrived at the dealership or were going to be returned after that. I have now brought my vehicle to a different dealership (Helfman in Houston) for a repair and to have that recall fixed. They are unable to order the parts from Jeep to fix the recall, because River Oaks had previously ordered them under my VIN and have most likely returned them. No one at River Oaks is willing to help in any way. The recall manager says I should have known that they received the parts in stock after I left without any kind of notification, and the parts managers won't answer or return my calls. Jeep corporate has stated that they cannot cancel the previous parts order, but that River Oaks can cancel the previous order so that Helfman can put in a new one with my VIN. River Oaks has denied this. At this point, I cannot get a mandated safety recall fixed on my Jeep because of the previous and ongoing actions of River Oaks dealership. My options are apparently to leave it at the dealership indefinitely or take it back with a safety malfunction.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
- VIN: 1C4JJXR68NW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I own a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe, I purchased the vehicle new on [XXX] (purchased in TN, registered in VA). Since owning the vehicle it has been in the shop 9 times, most recently in the shop because it was completely dead and they found out the battery was leaking acid, this is the same battery they had just replaced a year earlier. It has lost all power and shut off several times, Jeep continues to say there is no issue. The loss of power is concerning because it happens when driving on busy roadways. I filed 2 lemon claims with them, both times offered $2800 for inconveniences and $3600 the last time. I have also been instructed to park the vehicle outside of my garage and told it might be a good idea to not charge it daily due to a fire hazard, when buying a hybrid, I paid extra in hopes to get better gas mileage when traveling to and from work, now I put my children's lives in jeopardy everyday while driving it! And most recently when driving across a bridge or rough roads (I live in the south so rough roads are an everyday thing), it has started shaking so badly that I have pulled off the road due to fear of the vehicle flipping or causing an accident. It is frustrating to pay for a vehicle that is a hazard and does not work properly. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the burning odor and exhaust smoke was coming from the catalytic convertor. The catalytic convertor had been replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH and then pulling over to park, there was white cloud of smoke coming from the driver's side of the vehicle into the cabin of the vehicle. The contact stated that the cabin was full of a strong burning odor. The contact opened the driver's door and became aware that the exhaust smoke was coming from the catalytic convertor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the cause of the failure was confirmed. The vehicle had been returned to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 3,000.

My dear friend, I am so excited to share with you my experience with Jeeps! For years, my family has been driving Jeeps because of their incredible safety features. My brother has been in two car accidents, but thanks to the sturdy construction of his Jeep, he was able to walk away unscathed. But you know what? Jeeps are not just safe, they are also incredibly fun to drive! I had no idea how much I would enjoy sitting higher than traffic and cruising around in my Jeep Wrangler. The ride is so smooth and the design is simply stunning. And let me tell you, there is a whole community of Jeep Wrangler drivers out there who are just as passionate as I am! You'll even get your first wave from a fellow Jeep driver. I cannot recommend buying a Jeep Wrangler enough. Trust me, you won't regret it!

I think you can't go wrong when you buy a Jeep, especially if you live in Florida. Jim Browne Jeep is the only place I would consider purchasing my vehicles in the Tampa Bay Area. The Jeep has performed excellently, and the service at Jim Browne is superb.

I've been dreaming of owning a jeep for years, and this year, I finally got one! Let me tell you, it was worth the wait. I had driven a friend's jeep back in 2011, so I had certain expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. The handling is so much better - it's smooth, precise, and sturdy. The materials are top-notch, and the layout is well thought out. Even in the city, driving this car is a blast. I used to have a 2016 Mazda 6, which I liked, but I absolutely love this car and all its features. It was tough to find a 2-door, but I lucked out and found an 80th-anniversary edition in the metroplex. It was a bit pricier, but I'm so glad I went for it. The sound system and subwoofer in the back are awesome, and the upgraded touchscreen is on point. The navigation system is surprisingly quick with directions and rerouting, and it pairs with my phone every time without any issues. It's everything I wanted and more! We even took out the backseat in less than 5 minutes and use the space to take our pups to the dog park. I love that you can customize it however you like - take off the freedom tops, doors, or hardtop. Jeep life is a lifestyle, and you buy into that when you get one. If you're on the fence about getting one, just do it. There's hardly a perfect time for anything in life, and you'll just be stuck waiting, thinking 'one day,' like I was!

My daughter and I have been experiencing a very harrowing situation with our Jeep. Despite visiting several dealerships, we have not received a satisfactory solution to the problem. The warning lights on the dashboard indicate a problem with the transmission and powertrain, but the service departments are insisting that it is a battery issue. This has put my daughter's safety at great risk, and I am extremely frustrated with the lack of concern shown by the service departments. I am considering legal action and have reached out to various organizations for assistance. As a responsible parent, I am determined to find a solution to this problem and ensure that my daughter is safe while driving.
