2002 Ford Freestyle problems
The Ford Freestyle is a crossover utility vehicle that was sold by Ford from 2005 to 2009. Largely marketed as the successor to the Ford Taurus station wagon, the Freestyle was the CUV counterpart of the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego four-door sedans. Sharing the Ford D3 platform with the Five Hundred and Montego, the Freestyle was produced with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations and six- or seven-passenger seating.
Following the return of the Ford Taurus for the 2008 model year, the Freestyle underwent a mid-cycle revision and was renamed the Ford Taurus X, marketed in the United States and Canada, as well as South Korea and the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam. Following the 2009 model year, the Taurus X was withdrawn. From the 2009 model year, the larger Ford Flex has served as the three-row Ford CUV/wagon.
From 2005 to 2009, the Freestyle/Taurus X was assembled at Chicago Assembly (Chicago, Illinois); the final vehicle was produced on February 27, 2009.

Common 2002 Ford Freestyle problems
The Ford Freestyle 2002 has several common problems that have been reported by its owners. Here are some of the most common problems and their details:
- Transmission Failure: Transmission failure without warning in the 2005 Freestar has been reported by 76 owners, transmission failure in the 2004 Freestar by 50 owners, and transmission failure in the 2006 Freestar by 35 owners.
- PCM Failure: PCM failure in the 2005 Freestar was reported by 8 owners.
- Fuel Pipe Problems: Fuel pipe problems are fairly common in Fiestas built between July 2004 and February 2005, which could cause fuel leaks.
- Faulty Airbag Warning Lights: Faulty airbag warning lights in the Ford Fiesta, including the 2004 model, were subject to a vehicle recall. The problem was caused by faulty sensors that failed to work when the front crash detectors noticed a fault, causing the warning lamp to fail to work or flash intermittently.
- Faulty Pollen Filter: Damp patches appearing in the car's interior are caused by a faulty pollen filter. Simply buying and installing a replacement pollen filter can fix this problem, which is very low cost and a simple process to do yourself.
- Clutch Problems: Clutches are renowned as a part prone to wear and tear, and Ford Fiesta's, including Zetec models, are far from immune to clutch problems. A particularly common problem with Ford Fiesta hydraulic clutches is caused by the cylinder rod becoming disconnected from the clutch pedal, which can be fixed by replacing the connecting clip.
- Steering Column Problems: An issue with the steering columns in some 2006 Ford Fiesta models could lead to a loss of steering control in some cases. This problem only affected a small number of the cars built between August and September 2006 and was subject to a vehicle recall at the time.
- Water Pump Problems: If your engine is idling and you hear strange whining or knocking noises coming from it, it is likely there is something wrong with the car’s water pump. This is a common problem with this generation of Ford Fiesta, and can be fixed by installing a new pump.
These are some of the most common problems reported by Ford Freestyle 2002 owners. However, it is important to note that not all cars of the same make and model will experience these problems, and some may not experience any problems at all.
