2010 Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common 2010 Gmc Acadia problems
The 2010 GMC Acadia, a three-row crossover, is known for its spacious interior and safety ratings. However, it has also been associated with several common problems that potential buyers should be aware of.
- Engine Issues: The 2010 GMC Acadia's only engine option, a 3.6-liter V6, had some bugs to work out. The timing chain appears to be a commonly reported source of engine problems, which can lead to motor failure. Owners have reported issues with vehicles struggling to start, idle, or accelerate, as well as stalling while driving. The timing chain's tensioner may fail, leading to engine failure.
- Seat Belt Recalls: Two seat belt recalls should not be overlooked for the 2010 GMC Acadia. These recalls are related to faulty seatbelts that may not properly restrain occupants, and one of them triggered an investigation by the NHTSA.
- Airbag Recall: A recall was issued for unreliable airbags due to a defective wiring harness. The driver and passenger's side-impact airbags and seat belts may not activate in a crash.
- Power Liftgate Recall: Some 2010 GMC Acadias have experienced problems with the power liftgate. Struts that hold up the liftgate may prematurely wear and fall unexpectedly, leading to a recall.
These common problems, along with the four recalls and one investigation, highlight the importance of thorough research before purchasing a 2010 GMC Acadia. While the vehicle offers practicality and safety, potential buyers should be aware of these issues and weigh them against the vehicle's positive aspects.

2010 Gmc Acadia recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2010 Gmc Acadia.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured January 3, 2007, to February 29, 2012, 2009-2012 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured July 6, 2008, to March 9, 2012, 2007-2012 GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured September 15, 2006, to February 29, 2012, and 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured August 17, 2006, to March 18, 2010. The affected vehicles, equipped with the power liftgate option, have gas struts that hold the power liftgate up when open. These struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall.
- Consequence: If the open liftgate unexpectedly falls, it may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power liftgate actuator motor control unit so that the motor will prevent the rapid closing of the lift gate, free of charge. The recall began on November 15, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, and Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 15240.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: General Motors is recalling certain model year 2009-2014 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured April 14, 2008, through May 14, 2014, Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured June 6, 2008, through May 14, 2014, and GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured April 9, 2008, through May 14, 2014, and 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured April 14, 2008, through March 18, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue and separate over time.
- Consequence: If the steel cable becomes fatigued and separates, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the seat occupant increasing the risk of an injury in a crash.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair and replace the lap pretensioner, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim notice will be mailed to owners in July 2014. A second notice will be mailed to owners once parts become available. The recall for the 2009-2010 model years began on July 11, 2014. The interim letter for the 2011-2014 model years were distributed on July 11, 2014. - Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia and 2009-2013 Chevrolet Traverse and 2008-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the driver and passenger seat mounted side impact air bag (SIAB) wiring harnesses may result in the SIAB and seat belt pretensioners not deploying in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: Failure of the side impact air bags and seat belt pretensioners to deploy in a crash increase the risk of injury to the driver and front seat occupant.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections, free of charge. The recall began on June 16, 2014. Buick owners may contact the owner center at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet owners at 1-866-694-6546, Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, and GMC owners at 1-866-996-9463. GM's number for this recall is 14030. IF SUFFICIENT FORCE IS APPLIED, THE BUCKLE COVER COULD BE PUSHED DOWN THE STRAP, EXPOSING AND PARTIALLY DEPRESSING THE RED RELEASE BUTTON.

Just wanted to say congratulations on your new 2010 Acadia! It's great to hear that you and your wife are enjoying it so much. The way you describe how it handles and hugs the road makes it sound like a really fun ride. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!
-
Just came back from a 1500 mile trip and everything with this car was great! The ride was comfortable and it had plenty of pep. It may take some time getting used to the 6-speed transmission, but it handled great on the highway. There were some minor changes to the interior, but so far so good. I hope it's as good as my 2007 Yukon!
-
Ok 1st; The whole thing about it rolling back only happens on the FWD version. this is not a defect. I test drover the fwd and loved it. 2nd; i got awd because i have a cabin in the mountains nearby. the vehicle is really roomy and has a great powertrain. The Bose system is great. The display panels look great. very decent acceleration when needed. 288 HP pushes 3196lbs easily. If you are looking for something roomy and made with quality workmanship this would be a great family vehicle. This vehicle will grow with your growing family. seats 8 ot 7 if you opt for captains chairs in the second row. Enjoy.

We received the car on Friday and went to Colorado on Saturday. It gets 25 mpg and has great handling in the mountains as well as on highways. The interior is roomy, making it a great vehicle for vacations. We highly recommend it!

Thank you for sharing your experience and I look forward to hearing more updates as you continue to drive it.

Aug 25, 2010 ... To Whom It May Concern: I am writing you today to express my dissatisfaction with my new 2010 GMC Acadia I purchased on June 11, 2010.
Kaleb Ratke 2024-11-24
The gas mileage of the Acadia has not met my expectations, averaging 5-7 mpg less than advertised. Despite the dealer's assurance that it is within range, I have found other brands to be more truthful in their claims. As someone who prioritizes mileage, I have been disappointed with the results. Additionally, access for disabled individuals, such as myself with disabled veterans plates, has been difficult. Overall, I cannot recommend the Acadia for those with disabilities. It is my hope that GM will improve this product in the future.
Davion Goldner 2024-11-15
At 50 thousand miles, my vehicle experienced issues with the timing chain, alternator, and water pump. Despite paying 4000 dollars in repairs, GMC did not provide any assistance. Although these problems started just 2 months after the warranty expired, I remain confident in my decision to never purchase a GMC vehicle again.
Porter Grant 2024-11-07
Avoid purchasing a 2010 GMC Acadia. Our personal experience with this vehicle was extremely negative, as it broke down within 24 hours of purchase. Despite multiple repairs, including fixing the timing chains, fuel injectors, catalytic converters, and installing a new starter, the vehicle continues to run poorly. This experience has been frustrating and disappointing, especially since we were hoping for a reliable family vehicle. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this vehicle.

I purchased my 2010 used Acadia 8 months ago for 8 grand with 107 thousand miles on it. Unfortunately, I have experienced several issues with the vehicle every month since then. As a single mother of four children, two of whom are very young, I find it difficult to manage the expenses of unexpected repairs. It is frustrating that car salesmen can sell cars that turn out to be unreliable. I am currently facing the challenge of having to replace the battery or alternator, and the car is running hot. I strongly advise against purchasing this vehicle as it has been a nightmare for me.

I was hoping to get an SUV for my daughter, but unfortunately, the car I purchased ended up costing me over $12,000 in repairs in just 2 1/2 years. Despite being assured that it was in great condition, it seemed like every time I turned around, something else would go wrong. First, it was the catalytic converter, then the crankshaft, and so on. It was one thing after another! Now, I've been told that the engine needs to be removed to fix whatever is causing the issue, which will cost around $4,000. It's been a frustrating experience, and I've decided to trade it in. I won't be buying a GMC again, but I hope that others have better luck with their cars. Thanks for listening to my story.
