2018 Toyota Yaris problems
The Toyota Yaris (Japanese: トヨタ・ヤリス, Hepburn: Toyota Yarisu) is a supermini/subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet and Tercel.
Up to 2019, Toyota had used the Yaris nameplate on export versions of various Japanese-market models, with some markets receiving the same vehicles under the Toyota Echo name through 2005. Starting in 2020, the Yaris nameplate began to be used in Japan, which replaced the Vitz nameplate.
The Yaris nameplate has also been applied to other vehicles. From 1999 to 2005, the nameplate had been used for the Yaris Verso mini MPV sold in Europe, where it was known in Japan as the FunCargo. Since 2020, the nameplate has also been used for the subcompact crossover SUV offering called Yaris Cross. In North America, most Yaris sedan models sold from 2015 to 2020 and Yaris hatchbacks sold from 2019 until 2020 were restyled versions of the Mazda2, produced and developed by Mazda.
In 2020, Toyota introduced the GR Yaris, which is a three-door performance-oriented variant of the XP210 series Yaris using the Gazoo Racing branding. It is built as a homologation model for the FIA World Rally Championship.
The name "Yaris" is derived from "Charis", the singular form of Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm and beauty. As of March 2020, the Yaris has sold 8.71 million units worldwide.

Common 2018 Toyota Yaris problems
The Toyota Yaris 2018 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners of this car. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the gearbox, specifically with the automatic transmission. Owners have reported issues such as no response from the vehicle when in gear, unusual noises when changing gear, and shaking or grinding. These problems can be caused by a gearbox oil leak, worn clutch disc, warped flywheel, or clutch overheating. The average cost for auto gearbox repairs, including diagnosis, parts, and labor, is around £248.44.
Another common problem with the Toyota Yaris 2018 is related to the clutch. Many owners have reported clutch problems, specifically when the clutch begins to slip. Symptoms of this issue include higher RPMs without the speed to match, a burning smell, clutch pedal height change, and a general lack of performance from the vehicle. The cause of this problem can be leaking oil or grease, a worn clutch disc, a warped flywheel, or clutch overheating. It is essential to have the vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic to diagnose and fix the problem.
The Toyota Yaris 2018 has also been reported to have issues with the ABS warning light. When this light comes on, it indicates that there is a problem with the anti-lock braking system. The most common causes of this problem are a faulty or damaged ABS module, a broken wheel speed sensor, or low ABS fluid. It is crucial to have the vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic as soon as possible to diagnose and fix the problem, as driving with a malfunctioning ABS system can be dangerous.
Finally, some late third-generation Yaris models may develop a fuel leak. This problem can be caused by the seals around the fuel injectors for the engine failing, allowing fuel to leak out. This issue affects cars built between 18 July 2017 and 12 April 2018.
Despite these common problems, the Toyota Yaris has achieved a perfect record of trouble-free motoring in the 2018 What Car? Reliability Survey, with none of the owners questioned reporting any faults with their vehicle. However, it is essential to be aware of these potential issues and have the vehicle inspected and maintained regularly to ensure its safe and reliable operation.

This is an amazing beater car! I purchased it for work purposes due to its incredible fuel mileage. Although it is small, it is tough and can handle anything. I drive 25 miles each way on country roads and have encountered a racoon, a coyote, a couple of rabbits, a cat, and even two deer. The first collision was a light tap and I only lost the hood emblem. Unfortunately, the second one was fatal for the deer and my Yaris was totaled. However, after 206,000 miles and zero mechanic bills, this car was a great friend to me. I was unharmed in the accident, which is a testament to the car's safety features. The Yaris consistently got over 40 mpg, the AC worked great, the radio was fine, and it was very comfortable. It handled great, heated up quickly, and I used it for what it was intended for - a work car. The hatchback model was like having a mini-truck, and parking was a breeze due to its size. I highly recommend this car, and I was so satisfied with it that I used the insurance money and some of my own to purchase another one. This car could have easily run for over 300,000 miles. Although I am a Ford man, I must say that for practicality, the Yaris is the best. It is a shame that they have been discontinued. If you are looking for luxury, then keep looking, but if you are thrifty, then just go for it. You can get up to 425 miles on a single tank of gas!

I purchased a certified 2013 Yaris L (hatchback) with 25k miles and used it for 3 and a half years (67k miles). The car can comfortably seat four adults, and requires very little maintenance. In fact, I only had to change the tires, brakes, and rotors (rear drum brakes) during my time with it. While driving over 75 miles per hour, the engine can be quite loud, and the car has limited cargo space and acceleration power. However, it boasts impressive fuel efficiency, achieving 34-35 miles per gallon on the highway and 29-30 miles per gallon in the city. I drove it in Michigan winters and snow with both all-season and winter tires and did not experience any significant issues. It is important to note that it is not a 4-wheel drive, so it can skid in snowy conditions. The L trim level does not include power windows, cruise control, remote start, or Bluetooth, but the car is incredibly reliable and offers great value. While its performance may not be top-notch, it is a great option for those seeking a dependable and low-maintenance vehicle.

I strongly believe that my 2013 Yaris SE does not provide a comfortable ride. The steering wheel is overly sensitive and every bump on the road is felt, making it an unpleasant driving experience. Additionally, I had an unfortunate incident where I hit a mouse and could feel the impact through the steering wheel. As a result, I have decided not to purchase any Toyota products in the future.

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that the car is low to the ground and doesn't have an alarm or key fab. Also, the mirrors are manual. Hope this helps!

If you plan on driving this car for more than 20-30 minutes at a time, you may experience some discomfort. Last weekend, I drove from Colorado to Kansas and back in a day, and I found it quite tiring. After driving for 5 hours and covering a little over 400 miles, I was limping when I stopped at the gas station. Even 300 miles later, when I got out to walk around, I was still limping from the pain in my foot. When my co-driver took over, she found that after just an hour of driving, her leg and thigh were aching. The foot pedal is small and difficult to keep at the right speed, and there is no cruise control. Additionally, the speed gauge only goes in increments of 10, which can make it difficult to know how fast you are going. It's important to keep your eyes on the road, so this can be a safety concern. However, this car is still suitable for city driving. When we finally arrived back in Colorado, I found it a little difficult to walk to the front door of our house, and my foot still hurt three days later.

I noticed a few things that I think could be improved with the car. For example, the turning radius is not as good as the older 2008 model, and the cupholders that were on the side of the front dash have been removed. Additionally, I live on a road with a steep hill that is dirt and gravel, and one night my mom and I tried to drive up it in the snow. Unfortunately, the car shut itself off completely once we hit the max power, which could have caused a dangerous situation. However, I do appreciate how well the car handles in normal conditions, and the touchscreen and hands-free calling features are pretty cool. Lastly, as a tall person, I have trouble seeing out of the rearview mirror, which seems to have been designed for shorter people. Overall, while it's not my favorite car, there are still some things that I appreciate about it.

It's been 5 years and I've had to change the ball bearing multiple times already, and the A/C 3 times. However, they're great at saving gas!
