2012 Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

We were then forced to have it towed to a nearby repair shop, because we did not want to take the chance to start the vehicle and have the same thing happen again. The repair shop did their diagnosis and informed us it was a broken timing chain but couldn’t tell us if any other damage was done to the motor, without completely tearing it down. I inspected the ignition switch and found nothing abnormal. Checked power steering fluid level, it was in the operating range. Unable to duplicate the issue at that time. On 3-9-23 while driving the vehicle started making an unusual noise coming from the engine. It seemed to be consistent with engine rpm. I believe it was the power steering pump. After stopping and starting the engine the noise was gone. A few minutes later while driving at slow speed the steering locked again, or the resistance was too great for my wife to overcome.

This is the best vehicle I've ever had! I absolutely love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great family car. It's been fantastic for ours.

Hello! I'm considering getting a new vehicle since my 2012 GMC Acadia Denali seems to have finally given up. I purchased it brand new in 2012 and, despite a few issues, it has served me well and kept my family safe. Some of the problems I've had include needing a new torque converter and struts at 100,000 miles, replacing the rear and front light lenses due to moisture, and the navigation stopped working at 150,000 miles. At 200,000 miles, the driver's front heated seat stopped working, and at 250,000 miles, the tailgate lifter no longer held the tailgate. However, these were all easy fixes, and there is very minimal rust at this time. Although I've had to spend some money on repairs, the torque converter and struts were by far the most expensive. Currently, it has 304,000 miles on it, and I just noticed a transmission leak. If it's a simple seal, I'll fix it, but if not, it may be time to say goodbye. Despite mixed reviews on this vehicle, I feel very blessed to have gotten such a long life out of it. Thank you, GM!

The front seats are perfect for long trips, but unfortunately, the back seats are not suitable for adults for extended periods of time. Additionally, the seats are mostly firm, and the internal placement of the seatbelt can be uncomfortable as it digs into your hip and cannot be adjusted.
-
I really appreciate this vehicle. It's a joy to drive and very comfortable for the family to travel in. It's very responsive and drives really nicely. Although it's a bigger SUV, the room inside is amazing. I love the styling and look of the vehicle.

Congratulations on your new 2012 Denali! It's great to hear that you loved your 2009 Acadia SLT2 with over 120,000 miles and that you like the new one even better. With an overall average of 18-19 mpg and the ability to haul up to 1,000 lbs with only a small amount of rear sway, it sounds like you made a great choice. Although it's a shame that the front headlights can only be accessed through the front wheel wells, it's clear that this is the best all-around vehicle you have owned!

Aug 25, 2010 ... I now own a 2012 Acadia Denali. From day one I've noticed a problem with the transmission that, one day, will be life threatening.
Dan Kihn 2024-11-10
Despite having less than 21,000 miles, I experienced some issues with shifting the car into park and turning it off. Although the repairs cost me around $500, the same problem occurred a year later, costing me another $500. Unfortunately, my all-wheel drive and stabilitrack have now failed after another year with 21,000 miles. Despite my love for the vehicle's look and style, as well as the benefit of a third row, I am now hesitant to trade it in for another Acadia due to the reported problems. I have not yet had the chance to evaluate the cost of repairing the all-wheel drive due to recent hospital stays and rehab, but I will find out next week. It is frustrating to deal with these issues in a vehicle with such low mileage.

It sounds like you had a decent ride, although it may be a bit underpowered. However, the MPG seems to be okay. On the bright side, the vehicle is very comfortable and has tons of room, even with three kids in the back. Although the seats take a while to heat up, they are still a great feature. Unfortunately, it seems that there is a big problem with carbon monoxide. This vehicle sets off alarms in your house when started in the garage (with the garage door open, of course). It's a shame that the service department is taking so long to fix the issue. With the 55k spent on the top of the line model, there were many other choices available, but it's hard to imagine them being any worse. When not thinking about the CO, the ride is still nice.

Maintaining this car can be quite challenging as the dealership seems to break more things than they fix.

This is my parent's car, but my husband and I get to use it whenever something breaks. We didn't do enough research before buying it, and it had 101K miles on it and was priced at $15,999. After a few months of driving, one of the lights went out, which was not easy to find and replace. Now, there is no air flow in the front AC/heat vents. I have read about similar problems with this car. Unfortunately, the value of the car is not worth the price. I wanted to remove my name from the loan, so we tried refinancing, but the bank wouldn't do it because we owe more than the value of the car. It's a total bummer, and I hope GMC will do something about this issue, or else they will lose business.

I've driven the car for 9 months and put 9,000 miles on it. While its performance is adequate, it can feel sluggish when you need to accelerate quickly. The MPG is below advertised at 19 highway and 15-17 in town, which may be due to the AWD. My parents have the FWD version and they get 17-18/20-21 mpg, also below advertised. My SLT 1 has heated front seats, but the passenger seat only has manual lumbar support and can only move front and back, making it inferior to the driver's seat. If you plan on spending time in the passenger seat, consider upgrading it.
