2016 Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common 2016 Gmc Acadia problems
The 2016 GMC Acadia has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the transmission and engine.
Transmission issues are a significant concern for 2016 GMC Acadia owners. Drivers have reported transmission-related problems, including rough shifts and improper gear changes. Transmission failures have been reported on mileages as low as 20,000, which is a cause for concern. Owners have complained about only getting transmission rebuilds instead of replacements under warranty from GM. Transmission overheating problems can cause severe damage, but can be prevented by installing a remote transmission cooler. Regularly changing the transmission fluid and not going above the SUV’s towing capacity can prevent transmission issues.
Engine problems have also been reported for the 2016 GMC Acadia. Earlier Acadia models were reportedly prone to engine issues, particularly the 2008, 2010, and 2011 models. Frustrated owners have reported that their vehicles would slow down and ultimately stop in the middle of the road. Many owners had to spend good money on engine replacement. The 2016 model year was one of the least problematic for the GMC Acadia, but transmission problems are still a concern.
The 2016 GMC Acadia’s towing capacity ranges from 2,000 to 5,200 pounds. Make sure to double-check the owner’s manual if you’re planning to tow something heavy. Going over the SUV’s limit in towing, even for as little as 500 miles, can take a toll on the transmission. Make sure the transmission is inspected every 30,000 miles (or two years), and have the transmission fluid and filters changed. If you tow a lot, shorten the period between each visit.
In summary, the 2016 GMC Acadia has reported issues with the transmission and engine. Transmission problems are the most common issue, with drivers reporting rough shifts, improper gear changes, and transmission failures. Engine problems have also been reported, particularly in earlier model years. Regular maintenance, including transmission inspections and fluid changes, can help prevent these issues.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-01
- VIN: 1GKKVTKD6GJ
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: We received a "important safety recall" notification letter from GMC in June 2023, informing us that there is a safety issue with the driver's side airbag. The recall reference number is N232404980. This recall calls out a potential hazard for metal fragments to pass through the airbag, which may result in injury or death. As of today, June 13, 2024, it has been over a year since we have received this notification, and there is still no resolution. I have called GMC directly, and was advised to "keep checking until a repair solution is available". Given that the cause of the recall can result in injury or death, a timeline of a year (or longer) to repair this issue is completely unacceptable. Someone needs to hold GMC accountable, and pressure them to make the repair for this recall available immediately. It is unacceptable that drivers of the impacted vehicles are expected to drive with a potentially dangerous (or fatal) recall, with no timeline of resolution. I expect the NHTSA to hold GMC accountable, and demand an immediate resolution to all vehicles impacted by recall #N232404980. WITH THE RISK OF DEATH, OUR ACADIA IS NOT ROAD SAFE, OFF THE ROAD UNTIL FIXED. OUR GM DEALER WILL NOT TAKE IT IN A TRADE FOR A NEW CAR AND THE DEALER WILL NOT GIVE US A LOANER UNTIL THE CAR IS SAFE.

Denali has all the bells and whistles. The exterior design may not be flashy, but it's still nice enough. The rear rows fold flat, giving you tons of cargo space when needed, or you can flip up all the seats for plenty of passengers. The drive is smooth, and while the engine may not have a lot of punch, it still gets the job done.

I love my car!

I purchased my 2016 Acadia SLE-1 AWD Certified in July 2017 with 20,000 miles. During the first month of driving, I noticed that it was very sluggish in the morning when I pulled out. However, once the engine warmed up and the temperature needle was halfway, it drove like a dream. I took it to the service center, but they said it was normal. Now that it's winter, I've noticed that if I don't let it warm up for 10 minutes or until the temperature needle reaches halfway, the engine revs and the RPM goes over 2 when only going 20 miles. It's very disappointing and doesn't seem normal to me. Despite this, I really like the style, space, and comfort of the car. However, I do wish I had done more research on this year and model, as the fuel economy is not great. When I originally went to the dealership, I was looking for a 2017 model, but after test driving it, I didn't like the new model. Later that evening, I test drove this car and liked the older model because it was wider and stronger. Unfortunately, I didn't know that the drive train in the 2015 and 2016 models had been changed, which causes the terrible fuel economy. Additionally, the tailgate is very heavy and should have a liftgate button as a standard feature.

I recently purchased a 2016 GMC Acadia SLT-1 and I'm really happy with my decision. My previous car, a 2012 Subaru Outback, had some engine problems despite regular maintenance. I needed a car that could handle snowy conditions and had a usable third row for my older children. I considered the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander, but their third row seats were not practical. After researching, I found that the Acadia had great reviews and was a good fit for my needs. My kids love the car and the ride is very comfortable. The third row seats are spacious and easy to fold down, which is convenient for loading groceries. The navigation system has road alerts and the backup camera has a large and clear image. Although blind spot warnings are not available on all trim levels, I'm still satisfied with my purchase. The car drives like a big car rather than a truck, which is impressive considering its size. The twin sunroofs make the interior bright and my kids enjoy being able to listen to a different radio station. The air conditioning works great even in hot weather. Although it doesn't have Apple Carplay, it still has a decent amount of technology to keep it interesting. I'm excited to test it out in the snow. Update: June 2021.Still love this car. I'm glad to hear that you've had a great experience with it so far. Although you've had a couple of items that needed repairing, it's great to hear that overall it's a great all-around vehicle that carries people and cargo well. It's impressive that you've gotten up to 25+ mpg on the highway, especially if you don't put your foot into it too much and keep it on cruise. It's wonderful that you plan on keeping this car for a long time to come. Your husband just told you yesterday that it's probably the best vehicle you've ever owned, which is a great compliment!

I bought a car with a promise that the dealership would fix the vibration problem, which seemed to be related to the tires. The car gives you a chair massage as you drive, like a tire is out of balance. During the first trip, they replaced one tire and aligned the wheels, which made me feel like the car was fixed. However, I still experienced some vibration, although it was not as bad as before. The car still pulled to the right. During the second trip, they re-balanced the tires and did a second alignment, which made me feel like the car was fixed. The pull was gone, and the car handled great. However, I still have some vibration, although it is better than before. I am doing some troubleshooting myself before returning for a third trip to the dealership. Hopefully, I'll get to drive it somewhere besides the dealership, which is 50 miles away.

GMC autos have a recurring issue with headlamps going out, which unfortunately are not covered by warranty. The cost of replacing them can be quite high, as seen in my recent experience of having to replace one headlamp for $357 and the passenger side headlamp assembly for $1,621. However, despite these maintenance issues, the car does have its positive aspects such as comfortable seating and adequate handling. Although, it is underpowered. After considering the cost of future repairs, I have decided to trade in the auto.

We had a bad experience with the GMC Acadia. The engine would reduce speed and even shut down while driving, causing us to lose power of the vehicle. Luckily, we were on a residential street, so the outcome could have been worse. The dealership attempted to fix the issue, but it didn't work. They tried something else, but we didn't trust the vehicle anymore. Unfortunately, GM and the dealership didn't want to do anything else to address the problems, so we got rid of it ASAP. Due to our experience, we have decided not to buy a Chevrolet or GMC vehicle again, and neither will our friends and family.

The car has great road holding on the highway, making you feel safe and secure as you drive. The wide windshield provides excellent visibility of your surroundings.

As a loyal GMC customer, I have owned 8 GMC vehicles out of 9. My last vehicle, an Envoy with 189,000 miles, unfortunately got totaled. However, I was excited to purchase a GMC Acadia 6 months ago. While it's not a bad car, it unfortunately does not measure up to the others I have owned. Here are some things I like about it: it has lots of storage and is roomy if you need lots of seating. However, there are some disappointments. The control center and navigation are just plain horrible. The soft touch buttons don't work half the time, the black/red/white patterned print on the screen makes it difficult to read, you must go through multiple menus to do anything, and it's impossible to use while driving. After multiple attempts, I gave up on the navigation. It's difficult to read, does not re-route, and you must stop and go through multiple screens to exit out if you want to stop the navigation. Google maps on my phone is a much better experience. It's a total fail on GMC's part. The car comes with multiple warning systems, but it does not come with the most important one - a blind-spot warning! I live in an area of winding roads and have had to turn off most of the warnings because they constantly go off when they see a car in another lane or a line in the road on a curve. It comes with a back-up camera, which works well in clear daylight, but not much help at night or on rainy days. The turn radius is too wide and the gas mileage is not as stated. On a recent trip that was mostly freeway, I averaged 16mpg. After a lifetime of owning GMC's, this is the first one I am considering selling after less than a year.

This car is being sold after only six months. The Intellink system has been found to be slow, unresponsive, and lacking in information. The navigation system is unreliable and may take you to unintended destinations. Additionally, Pandora and Stitcher have been known to load slowly and close unexpectedly. While the second row Captains chairs are comfortable, they take up a significant amount of space when packing the car. It is not recommended for dog owners as the design may cause injury to pets.
