2011 Gmc Acadia problems

gmc logo

The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

First generation (2007)

The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.

The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.

In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.

The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-07-16
  • VIN: 1GKKVSED4BJ
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: Accordingly, the said vehicle first manifested a dangerous defect issue on July 14, 2021, while traveling out of town. A significant and abrupt reduction of power completely disabled the vehicle while parking in a parking space .Despite several attempts, the vehicle still fail to start. Only to notice the engine light illuminating and flashing repeatedly. At the same time the dashboard indicated a faulty reading of fuel and oil. This is a very serious and frightened situation because I received absolutely no warning before the vehicle shut down. Without reason of doubt, I do believe it is unsafe, extremely dangerous and is potentially a hazardous situation that should be investigated. Fortunately, I was in a parking lot went the problem occurred. Whereas, if the vehicle engine stopped abruptly in the mist of traffic it could have resulted with a different outcome. On July 16th the vehicle was towed to a certified GMC dealership for further inspection. Hours later, I received the service contract and a follow up call from the dealership given that the diagnostic is the Engine Control Module (ECM) and needs to be replaced. Surprisingly, to my dismay I was advised that General Motors no longer make the part and the Service Center is not sure when and if the part will be available. As of today, July 26th, no one has taken the necessary steps to remediate my situation. I have already attempted to resolve this problem by contacting the Manufacturer directly. Yet, no information on when a resolution will be made. I have been a loyal customer for several years and currently seeking answers.

Electronics have been a bit of a challenge for my vehicle. Unfortunately, I have had to repair it multiple times due to ongoing electronic issues. I recently reached 100K miles and decided it was time to move on. Despite some intermittent issues with the power seats and mirrors, air conditioning failures, and throttle body failure just 4 months after having it replaced, I am grateful for the time I had with my vehicle.

I have been a proud owner of my Acadia Denali since 2012, and it has served me well with over 82,000 miles on it. However, I have recently encountered some issues with the alternator and carbon build-up in the intake valves. Despite having taken it to two different mechanics, the problem persists. I have been advised to use top-tier gas, add Sea Foam during oil changes, and use an oil stabilizer to treat the issue. Although this is a common issue with this engine, I am confident that with proper care and maintenance, I can continue to enjoy my Acadia Denali for many more miles to come.

I initially loved my Acadia, but unfortunately, it had some issues early on. By the second week, it was already in the repair shop because it wouldn't start. When I got it back, there was a large dent near the gas tank that couldn't be fixed due to its location. Despite these setbacks, I still enjoy driving my car. However, over time, the check engine light came on and the dealership had to make some costly repairs. Now, the check engine light comes on and off randomly, and the dealership says I need a new engine due to rod knock. As a loyal GM customer, I am disappointed that this has happened and I hope that GM will take ownership of this issue and help their customers who have experienced similar problems. I know that many other consumers have had to replace their engines, and I believe that GM should stand behind their products and support their customers. As someone with family members who have worked or retired from GM, I am embarrassed to have experienced these issues with my car. I hope that GM will take action to help us out.

It sounds like you've had a good experience with your SUV so far! It's spacious and comfortable for long or short drives, although it could be better on gas with an MPG of 16-18 at best. You're considering a newer model, so it will be interesting to see if GMC has made any improvements to this model.

Fortunately, the dealer had a one week satisfaction guarantee. I had it for three days and returned it. I was very underwhelmed.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that your car sounds amazing! It's a 2011 model that you bought in 2013 with only 28,000 miles, and now it has 98,000 miles with no repairs except for tires and oil. That's really impressive! I can understand why you're looking for another car like it. Have you considered a 2018 model in either the Limited or Denali class with less than 30,000 miles? I think that could be a great option for you. Let me know if you need any help with your search!

On 01/27/11, we purchased the Acadia Denali with AWD, trading in our 2008 Buick Enclave for this crossover. When my wife test drove the red Denali, she was sold. The Denali takes this car to another level with its attention to detail and superb looks. We needed a large vehicle to transport our kids and grandkids on vacations and visits, and the Denali fits the bill perfectly. We particularly appreciated the small, subtle differences, such as the top crossbars that can be used to tie down Christmas trees, beach chairs, luggage, and more. Unlike the Buick Enclave, which has these crossbars for looks only, the Denali's crossbars are fully functional.

That's a very nice car! The only thing to keep in mind is that it consumes gas quite quickly.
