Gmc Acadia problems

The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a popular SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on complaints from owners:
- Check Engine Light: The check engine light is a common problem in the GMC Acadia, often pointing to a powertrain control module problem. This issue can be fixed with a simple software update. However, if the code points to a known camshaft problem, a technician is needed to complete GM’s prescribed fix.
- Faulty A/C System: Some Acadia model years have struggled with a flawed A/C system, which can lead to decreased cooling performance. The root cause is often an evaporator leak that prevents cooling in one zone or the entire vehicle.
- Engine Problems: Earlier Acadia models, particularly the 2008, 2010, and 2011 models, were prone to engine issues. These problems could lead to the engine slowing down and ultimately stopping in the middle of the road. Many owners had to spend a significant amount of money on engine replacement.
- Power Steering Failures: Some Acadia owners have reported issues with the power steering, especially when making slow turns or during parking. This issue is more common in earlier model years.
- Fuel Gauge Inaccuracies: Some Acadia owners have found that their fuel gauge doesn’t provide accurate readings, leading to instances of running out of fuel unexpectedly.
- Suspension-Related Problems: Drivers have complained about noises from the front end, especially when driving over bumps or rough roads.
- Brakes: Some Acadia owners have raised concerns over squeaking noises or reduced braking efficiency.
- Ignition Switch Problems: Some users have reported problems with the ignition switch, including the vehicle not starting or the key getting stuck.
- Electrical Complaints: Beyond the “Shift to park” issue, the Acadia has had other electrical complaints, such as random warning lights illuminating or the infotainment system rebooting unexpectedly.
- Water Inside the Vehicle: Some Acadia drivers have found water inside their vehicles, especially around the footwells.
While these problems can be frustrating for Acadia owners, it's important to note that not all vehicles will experience these issues. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent many of these problems from occurring or becoming more serious.
Do GMC Acadia have issues?
Common GMC Acadia Problems
Transmission fault: According to RepairPal, GMC Acadias with a six-speed automatic transmission may develop faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate within the transmission system. This may lead to symptoms like slipping transmission, harsh/rough shifting, and loss of reverse gear.
Are GMC acadias reliable?
According to repairpal.com, the GMC Acadia scores a three out of five in general reliability. This number puts it at 22nd when compared to 32 similar vehicles, less than ideal for reliability. The annual repair cost of the GMC Acadia is $734, almost $200 more expensive than the average of $573 for other midsize SUVs.
Do GMC acadias last long?
The GMC Acadia can last for over 200,000 miles. Many owners have kept their Acadia SUVs past that mileage with few issues.
What are the pros and cons of the GMC Acadia?
Cost to Drive. We like the Acadia for its comfortable ride, powerful V6 upgrade engine and easy-to-use technology features. Sadly, these advantages are kept in check by its disappointing interior quality, somewhat underpowered base four-cylinder engine, and limited third-row and cargo space.

I know that this is an ongoing issue with the 2017-2018 GMC Acadia and don't understand why GMC won't issue a recall for this. If this were to cause injury or an accident then they are 100% liable. I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your Acadia AT4! The interior design is simple yet luxurious, with high-quality materials and excellent fit and finish. The all-black wheels and trimming, along with the awesome LED headlights and large front grill, give it an aggressive and sporty look. The ride quality is very comfortable, and the V6 engine with a 9-speed transmission is impressively fast. Plus, there's plenty of space with captain chairs and a 3rd row. It sounds like you made an excellent choice!

This Acadia SLT-2 is a great fit in terms of size and comfort. The LGX V6 received Wards award for being one of the 10 best engines, and it's a refined and reliable 4th generation V6. This vehicle has a smooth ride and enough power to make your journey enjoyable. It's not as big as my crew cab, but it's a lot easier to park. I have owned Suburbans and Avalanches, but this Acadia works perfectly for me. My wife has taken it over.

After our Nissan was sold back as a lemon, we decided to get an Acadia Denali. We absolutely love it! It's quiet, comfortable, and drives like a dream. We've put 9000 miles on it now and we fall in love with it every time we drive it. It's definitely the best vehicle we've ever owned.

I love this car! Although I was hesitant to get rid of my family Mini-van, I have had NO regrets since driving the Acadia. The size is great and it drives great too. However, the fuel economy is more like 13 per gallon, NOT 16-18 as advertised. The materials inside could be nicer considering the cost, but overall, I LOVE driving this car and my kids and their friends love driving in this car with me.

We absolutely adore our new Acadia! After searching for a replacement for our old 2007 Chevy Avalanche, we stumbled upon the Acadia and it has exceeded our expectations. Not only does it look great, but it also has a spacious and comfortable interior, plenty of power, and handles like a dream. The 6-cylinder engine tows our camper better than our old 8-cylinder Avalanche, thanks to the smooth 6-speed automatic transmission. Although the gas mileage could be better at a combined 17 mpg, we still love taking it on long trips because of its comfortable ride. The only downside we've found so far are the rear mud guards, which are made of hard plastic and hang low enough to scrape on cement blocks in parking lots. We may eventually replace them with more flexible ones. Overall, we're thrilled with our purchase and highly recommend the Acadia!

Hi there! I recently purchased a 2023 Acadia SLT, but unfortunately experienced some transmission problems at just 1k miles. It was quite frustrating, as I brought it to the dealership and they initially said nothing was wrong. However, when it happened again at 2500 miles, they finally admitted there was a transmission issue. They had my vehicle for a week and said it's now fixed. Since then, I've driven 6k miles without any further issues. I'm hoping this problem doesn't happen again, but if it does, I may need to file a lemon. It's been a bit difficult to trust GMC moving forward, but I'm hopeful that everything will work out.

We bought our 2012 Acadia brand new in February 2013 and have put 90,000 miles on it over the past 5 years. While we've had some repairs to deal with, we've always been able to count on our dealership to help us out. During the winter months, we've had to take the car in to have the sensors in the tires reset, but our dealership has always been able to quickly and efficiently take care of it. In 2015, we had to replace the fuel injectors due to a known issue, but our dealership was able to help us out and get it fixed. We've also had a few issues with a smell of radiator fluid inside the car, but our dealership has always been able to address it and make sure everything is okay. Recently, we had an issue with the water pump, but our dealership was able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem. While there were a few other issues that were discovered during the repair, our dealership was able to take care of everything and get us back on the road. We're grateful for their help and expertise!Let's get that fixed up for $2,100 and everything will be alright! But wait... there's more! We picked up the car on a Friday and parked it at our house around 8 PM. When my wife attempted to use it for the first time on Sunday around 3 PM, the car wouldn't crank. After trying for 30 minutes, it finally turned over but began to idle at irregular RPMs. We returned the car to the dealership and left the keys in the Dropbox, explaining the issue. When we called on Monday afternoon, we were told they couldn't find anything wrong and wanted to keep it for an additional day. On Tuesday, we were informed that it was the High Pressure fuel pump, which was fixed for $900. We now have a car that we paid 32k for with 90k miles and just replaced pretty much anything that may give us trouble for the next 90k miles. However, there's more. When we picked up the car today, the AC wouldn't come on. We immediately returned to the dealership and spoke with the service manager about the issue. He puts on some fancy yellow glasses and goes straight to the AC line. He exclaims, 'Wow! There's your problem.' He then describes how the area where the hose is located is nowhere near anything they have worked on before. I am currently awaiting the pricing for this 'hose repair'. Although I am sure it will be more than $500 but less than $1500, I must say that the long story is that I am already 6k in on the car and will be trading it in as soon as I get it back. If you are in the market for an SUV, I would recommend not purchasing a 2012 Silver Acadia, as this one will probably be out there on the market, waiting to bite you in the A$. It may seem great with low miles, a clean interior, nice wheels, and a DVD package. It will have the third row, leather seats, and several months left on the XM system. The body will be untouched and clean with a nice shine to it. However, I suggest you WALK AWAY, fast. I will not EVER buy another GMC.

The vehicle rides well, but unfortunately, we have experienced frequent major repairs with our Acadia, which have been quite expensive. As a result, we have decided not to purchase this vehicle and are unlikely to consider GMC in the future.

Although I am disappointed with my recent experience, I would like to share some concerns I have with the car. I experienced some issues with the clutch wave plate, which required a transmission rebuild at 48k miles. Despite the car being just 6 months out of warranty, GM has not been able to honor it. I believe this is a common problem with this vehicle and I am wondering if there is a way to address it. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The speakers malfunctioned, the driver seat panel detached and cannot be reattached, and the alternator failed. GMC Mahwah NJ charged over $800 to replace the alternator and the speakers, but unfortunately, the car still experiences electrical issues. Additionally, the car stutters when reaching 2.5 rpm. It is disappointing to have experienced these issues with the car and the dealership.
