Gmc Acadia problems

The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a popular SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on complaints from owners:
- Check Engine Light: The check engine light is a common problem in the GMC Acadia, often pointing to a powertrain control module problem. This issue can be fixed with a simple software update. However, if the code points to a known camshaft problem, a technician is needed to complete GM’s prescribed fix.
- Faulty A/C System: Some Acadia model years have struggled with a flawed A/C system, which can lead to decreased cooling performance. The root cause is often an evaporator leak that prevents cooling in one zone or the entire vehicle.
- Engine Problems: Earlier Acadia models, particularly the 2008, 2010, and 2011 models, were prone to engine issues. These problems could lead to the engine slowing down and ultimately stopping in the middle of the road. Many owners had to spend a significant amount of money on engine replacement.
- Power Steering Failures: Some Acadia owners have reported issues with the power steering, especially when making slow turns or during parking. This issue is more common in earlier model years.
- Fuel Gauge Inaccuracies: Some Acadia owners have found that their fuel gauge doesn’t provide accurate readings, leading to instances of running out of fuel unexpectedly.
- Suspension-Related Problems: Drivers have complained about noises from the front end, especially when driving over bumps or rough roads.
- Brakes: Some Acadia owners have raised concerns over squeaking noises or reduced braking efficiency.
- Ignition Switch Problems: Some users have reported problems with the ignition switch, including the vehicle not starting or the key getting stuck.
- Electrical Complaints: Beyond the “Shift to park” issue, the Acadia has had other electrical complaints, such as random warning lights illuminating or the infotainment system rebooting unexpectedly.
- Water Inside the Vehicle: Some Acadia drivers have found water inside their vehicles, especially around the footwells.
While these problems can be frustrating for Acadia owners, it's important to note that not all vehicles will experience these issues. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent many of these problems from occurring or becoming more serious.
Do GMC Acadia have issues?
Common GMC Acadia Problems
Transmission fault: According to RepairPal, GMC Acadias with a six-speed automatic transmission may develop faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate within the transmission system. This may lead to symptoms like slipping transmission, harsh/rough shifting, and loss of reverse gear.
Are GMC acadias reliable?
According to repairpal.com, the GMC Acadia scores a three out of five in general reliability. This number puts it at 22nd when compared to 32 similar vehicles, less than ideal for reliability. The annual repair cost of the GMC Acadia is $734, almost $200 more expensive than the average of $573 for other midsize SUVs.
Do GMC acadias last long?
The GMC Acadia can last for over 200,000 miles. Many owners have kept their Acadia SUVs past that mileage with few issues.
What are the pros and cons of the GMC Acadia?
Cost to Drive. We like the Acadia for its comfortable ride, powerful V6 upgrade engine and easy-to-use technology features. Sadly, these advantages are kept in check by its disappointing interior quality, somewhat underpowered base four-cylinder engine, and limited third-row and cargo space.

I know that this is an ongoing issue with the 2017-2018 GMC Acadia and don't understand why GMC won't issue a recall for this. If this were to cause injury or an accident then they are 100% liable. - VIN: 1GKKRSKD7HJ

- Summary: The transmission in the car failed. These failures are a known problem with this vehicle and while attempting to get assistance from GM, they refused to offer any assistance, compensation or otherwise. I understand the transmissions in these models are part of a larger inquiry. While outside of warranty, this is clearly a design and manufacturing flaw.

We bought a 2014 GMC Acadia Denali with 37k miles for my wife about a month ago. So far, we haven't had any issues with it. We're excited to take it on a 7-hour drive this weekend and see how it performs. It's spacious, comfortable, and has great entertainment features. Overall, we love it! It's perfect for our family of four.

Update 6+ years: Hi everyone! I wanted to share my experience with my Acadia. Despite the title showing that it's been used for over 6 years, I actually bought it brand new in 2017. Recently, I had to replace all 4 tires and my engine light turned on. I took it to the dealer and thankfully, the engine and battery are fine. However, I did learn that the upper and lower active grill shutters have failed, causing the codes to set and the engine light to turn on. The replacement cost is $800, which is a bit annoying, but still cheaper than buying a new vehicle. Other than that, I haven't had any major problems since my purchase. Fingers crossed! Update 5 years: It's been 5 years and I still love my Acadia. I haven't had any mechanical issues and the car play has improved. However, I would suggest to GMC to add a dimmer to car play for dusk to night driving. Update 4 years: My Acadia is now 4 years old and I'm happy to report that I haven't had any issues with it at all. There was a recall on the back middle seat seatbelts, but it was repaired in less than 45 minutes. Apple car play is much better and I'm happier with it. I still love my SUV and I'm planning to keep it until it stops running on its own. :) Update 2 years: Hi everyone, just wanted to give you an update on my truck. It's now 2 years old and I still love it. The only problem I had with it was that the engine wouldn't shut off almost a year ago. Thankfully, my dealer was able to rectify the problem on the same day and even provided me with a loaner car, the 2019 GMC Terrain (which was a very nice truck). Since my last comment, I've learned that if your cell chargers are even slightly damaged or old, they won't work well in the vehicle with Apple CarPlay. That was the problem below. I've since replaced my chargers several times and the sound system is all good. And remember, the new Acadia's have an engine system that shuts off when you stop. That's not an engine problem, just learn how to manipulate your way around it. The engine shut off is great! This truck gets fantastic mileage!I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2017 Acadia. I absolutely love it! It comfortably fits my family of five, including my 6'4

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share with you my experience driving our 2018 GMC Acadia 6 cylinder all the way from Alaska to Pennsylvania. It was such a sweet ride! We were getting anywhere from 24 to 34 miles per gallon, which was amazing. The Alaska highway was quite the adventure, with some tricky roads, but switching from 2 wheel to AWD was a breeze. Overall, it was an unforgettable 11-day journey. Thanks for listening!

We named our new Acadia SLT Big Blue because of its Sky Blue exterior paint, which my wife absolutely loves, and because he, being a boy, is larger than the mid-sized car she had been driving. Despite being a three-row hauler, the exterior dimensions are surprisingly compact, while still offering a spacious interior and a super ride and handling. The 3.6L V-6 is normally aspirated, which is a plus for me, and it makes more horsepower and torque than the competition. In addition, our real-world fuel economy is significantly better than EPA estimates. This past summer, I drove from the EAA convention at Oshkosh to our home in St. Louis and recorded 30.3 mpg for the 444 miles. The infotainment system is easy to use, and since it has Android Auto (or Apple Car Play if you have an iPhone), there was no need for us to buy the optional navigation system. Just plug your phone into one of the many USB ports, and the map is displayed on the touchscreen. We bought it new and got a fantastic deal. So far, we have no complaints and anticipate keeping it for a long time.

I purchased this car less than 6 months ago and initially loved its space, features, look, and feel. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the engine and took it to a shop for repairs. While the process was difficult and expensive, the mechanics were able to find a good engine. However, they also discovered a long list of code errors from the transmission and identified some damage to the transfer case. Despite their efforts, the car still runs poorly and I am looking forward to finding a better fit. I would caution against purchasing a GMC based on my experience.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 GMC Acadia. I've always taken great care of it, getting it serviced regularly at the GMC dealership. Unfortunately, I recently ran into an issue with my 3-5-Reverse wave plate, which I've learned is a common problem among other 2008 GMC Acadia owners. While the dealership is suggesting a whole new transmission, I'm a bit hesitant about the cost. I'm disappointed that GM hasn't taken action on this issue, but I'm hopeful that we can find a solution. Thanks for listening!

It started falling apart from the plastics decorations inside from the start. The support at the dealer was not as I expected owning a prior Nissan were I got treated real good is not easy. My problem started at 90,000 miles the veihcle jumps when shifting into reverse. I told 3 different GMC dealerships the problem. I was told to do a transmission oil change, which I did to no avail. Later I was told by my insurance adjuster the 2015 has a power train warranty that protects it. Well that would have been nice if one of the three dealers would have seen into the issue before the 100,000. At that point I had passed it by 5 miles. To add to my review the AC has gone out since last year and my AMP has gone out causing the radios, blinkers and voice on the GPS to not work. I read other reviews seems they are common problems.

Hi there, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to reach out regarding my 2010 Acadia that I purchased back in August of 2009. Unfortunately, it's currently in the shop for some transmission repairs, which has left me feeling quite upset. With only 30,000 miles on it and no previous accidents, I was hoping to get in touch with someone who could help me out. If you could reach out to me, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

I understand that you are frustrated with the recent diagnosis of your 2010 GMC Acadia. However, it is important to note that the Power Train Warranty for your vehicle expired last April and unfortunately, the issue you are experiencing is not covered under warranty. The estimated cost for the repair is around $4,000. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
