Gmc Acadia problems

The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a popular SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on complaints from owners:
- Check Engine Light: The check engine light is a common problem in the GMC Acadia, often pointing to a powertrain control module problem. This issue can be fixed with a simple software update. However, if the code points to a known camshaft problem, a technician is needed to complete GM’s prescribed fix.
- Faulty A/C System: Some Acadia model years have struggled with a flawed A/C system, which can lead to decreased cooling performance. The root cause is often an evaporator leak that prevents cooling in one zone or the entire vehicle.
- Engine Problems: Earlier Acadia models, particularly the 2008, 2010, and 2011 models, were prone to engine issues. These problems could lead to the engine slowing down and ultimately stopping in the middle of the road. Many owners had to spend a significant amount of money on engine replacement.
- Power Steering Failures: Some Acadia owners have reported issues with the power steering, especially when making slow turns or during parking. This issue is more common in earlier model years.
- Fuel Gauge Inaccuracies: Some Acadia owners have found that their fuel gauge doesn’t provide accurate readings, leading to instances of running out of fuel unexpectedly.
- Suspension-Related Problems: Drivers have complained about noises from the front end, especially when driving over bumps or rough roads.
- Brakes: Some Acadia owners have raised concerns over squeaking noises or reduced braking efficiency.
- Ignition Switch Problems: Some users have reported problems with the ignition switch, including the vehicle not starting or the key getting stuck.
- Electrical Complaints: Beyond the “Shift to park” issue, the Acadia has had other electrical complaints, such as random warning lights illuminating or the infotainment system rebooting unexpectedly.
- Water Inside the Vehicle: Some Acadia drivers have found water inside their vehicles, especially around the footwells.
While these problems can be frustrating for Acadia owners, it's important to note that not all vehicles will experience these issues. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent many of these problems from occurring or becoming more serious.
Do GMC Acadia have issues?
Common GMC Acadia Problems
Transmission fault: According to RepairPal, GMC Acadias with a six-speed automatic transmission may develop faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate within the transmission system. This may lead to symptoms like slipping transmission, harsh/rough shifting, and loss of reverse gear.
Are GMC acadias reliable?
According to repairpal.com, the GMC Acadia scores a three out of five in general reliability. This number puts it at 22nd when compared to 32 similar vehicles, less than ideal for reliability. The annual repair cost of the GMC Acadia is $734, almost $200 more expensive than the average of $573 for other midsize SUVs.
Do GMC acadias last long?
The GMC Acadia can last for over 200,000 miles. Many owners have kept their Acadia SUVs past that mileage with few issues.
What are the pros and cons of the GMC Acadia?
Cost to Drive. We like the Acadia for its comfortable ride, powerful V6 upgrade engine and easy-to-use technology features. Sadly, these advantages are kept in check by its disappointing interior quality, somewhat underpowered base four-cylinder engine, and limited third-row and cargo space.

This is a dangerous situation in that the car could easily roll when I am not in it. I know that this is an ongoing issue with the 2017-2018 GMC Acadia and don't understand why GMC won't issue a recall for this. If this were to cause injury or an accident then they are 100% liable. I started having these issues about a week ago. My husband took it to the dealership and they told him that its not a recall or under warranty. I cannot afford to fix this myself at this point.

- VIN: 1GKKRSKD7HJ

While outside of warranty, this is clearly a design and manufacturing flaw.

When my wife and I were searching for a new vehicle, we had a few requirements in mind. We needed a car with 3 rows, towing capacity around 5000 lbs, and a good overall design and style. We looked at many different vehicles from all manufacturers, including 2 row SUVs early in our search. After careful consideration, we decided on the Acadia, and we are thrilled with our choice. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet, and the fuel economy is impressive for a vehicle of this size powered by a small V6. The visibility is generally good, although it can be obstructed by the rear entertainment screen. The sunroofs are a great feature, and while the Bose sound system could be better, it still provides a good listening experience.

The 2017 Acadia, including the Denali trim, does not come with directional signal lights in the exterior mirrors, which is a feature that most other vehicles offer. Additionally, the limited color choices in the Denali trim are mostly extra cost. While the industry trend is towards eight and nine-speed automatics, the Acadia still uses a six-speed automatic. Some customers may find that the front seats could benefit from a thigh extender, a feature that is available on the Toyota Highlander. The premium radio in the Acadia only comes with eight speakers, while some competitors offer more. Finally, some customers still prefer to use CDs, so it may be worth considering offering an optional CD player, as some competitors do.

I'm glad to hear that you love the interior and exterior design of the car. It's great that there's plenty of room for 6 adults on long road trips and that it can fit 8 people on moderate length trips. The ride is smooth and the handling is very good on twisty roads. Additionally, there are lots of creature comforts and the interior is very quiet. I understand that you needed easy access to the 3rd row with room for adults, which eliminated several options. It's great that you were able to narrow it down to the Acadia and the Honda Pilot. Based on your experience, it seems like the Acadia was the better choice for you. It's good to know that the only issue you've had so far has been with the cord to get the middle seat to lie flat. As for mileage, it's impressive that you were able to get 21.5 mpg on hilly highway driving. The worst mileage you got was 16 mpg, which is understandable given mostly city driving. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Vehicle year: 2020
I have owned several SUVs in the past, including a 1976 Jeep CJ5, 1996 Chevy Blazer, 1999 Dodge Durango, 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2007 Chevy Tahoe, and 2013 Caddy SRX. Out of all of them, the Chevy's and the Caddy were the best, with the Caddy being the top performer. However, my current ownership experience with the Acadia has surpassed them all. I considered the Pilot and Highlander, but ultimately chose the Acadia SLT-1. The ride and handling are excellent, on par with the Caddy. The 3.6L V6 engine has the best MPG, even better than the 2.7L V6 in the 2003 Hyundai. The Tahoe, being so large, had inherent handling issues, but was still better than the Dodge. What swayed me towards the Acadia were the features it offered, such as leather seating without a sunroof. I only open the sunroof and windows on any of our vehicles when my wife gives a lustful eye when we drive by a convertible. So, the cost savings and GM incentives wiped out the lower depreciation rates on the Pilot and Highlander. Reliability was also a major factor in my decision. I have owned multiple GM cars for 10 years and 100k miles with no problems. Likewise, the Tahoe (100k miles) and SRX (80k miles) were issue-free. I opted for the SLT-1 with the optional 3.6L V6 and towing package.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your Acadia AT4! The interior design is simple yet luxurious, with high-quality materials and excellent fit and finish. The all-black wheels and trimming, along with the awesome LED headlights and large front grill, give it an aggressive and sporty look. The ride quality is very comfortable, and the V6 engine with a 9-speed transmission is impressively fast. Plus, there's plenty of space with captain chairs and a 3rd row. It sounds like you made an excellent choice!

I noticed some minor issues with my vehicle under 58k miles, such as AC, liftgate, power steering, and water pump. However, as soon as my vehicle hit 59k miles and went out of warranty, I started experiencing a range of issues including transmission, power steering, engine, water pump, and catalytic converter problems. The issues seem to be never-ending, and while the dealerships are willing to help, they also charge a lot of money. Maybe I have been spoiled by FORD, as I have driven over 1 million miles with their vehicles and only had to replace the tires, brakes, oil, and fluids. It's disappointing that I can't even make it to 60k miles with a GMC without spending a lot of money.

I bought a used 2011 Acadia with 28k miles in April 2012. During the test drive, I was considering a Toyota Highlander or VW Touareg, but I was drawn to the Acadia's body style and features. Unfortunately, the DVD player broke after a week of owning it, but luckily it was still covered under warranty. A few months later, the back hatch broke 300 miles after the warranty expired, and it cost $600 to fix. In May 2013, a year after purchasing the vehicle, we had to fix the air conditioning for the second time, which cost approximately $1000 each time. Additionally, there was an oil drip. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my Acadia.

I bought this car brand new 3 years ago. Unfortunately, the AC has gone out twice during this time, which has cost me $4000 in repairs. The first time, the GMC warranty covered the cost, and this time, I was fortunate enough to have an extended warranty that covered everything. It's frustrating that these issues have occurred in a relatively new vehicle. Additionally, about a month ago, the Bluetooth stopped working. Although it takes a few tries to connect manually, it no longer automatically connects to my phone. The technician from our local dealer was unable to find any issues. Overall, I feel that the value of this vehicle is not commensurate with its cost.

I purchased a 2009 Acadia in February 2020 with below average mileage. Unfortunately, I should have paid more attention to the warning signs. In June 2020, the timing chain started grinding when turning the wheel to the left. I had it replaced in September 2020 at a GM dealership for $3800, which included a 1 year/12,000 mile warranty. In March 2021, the water pump failed, and in May 2021, the rack and pinion, along with all the struts and bearings in the front wheels, needed to be replaced. I also had to replace the rotors and brakes on all four wheels. Despite all this, the exterior and interior of the Acadia were in excellent condition, and it towed a 6x8 trailer with ease. I am disappointed in my purchase and should have listened to other reviewers and my mechanic who warned me that it was a lemon.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with our 2013 Acadia SLT1 that we bought in 2014 with 16k miles. The car was certified, which was a great thing. At around 30k miles, the steering booster pump had to be replaced due to a GM recall. Maybe a year later (I don't remember the mileage), the engine module failed. Fortunately, the car was still under warranty, so it was replaced for free. According to the dealer, it would have been a $1200 to $1500 repair. About a year later, in 2017, one of the daytime running lights went out. The dealer said that they don't burn out, but they do. It was also replaced under warranty. Today, the car has 65k miles (October 2019), and there's a noticeable noise coming from the front end. I replaced all four struts and links, but the noise is still there. I need to chase that noise a little more. Now, on to the bright side! The car is very comfortable and has plenty of room for our family of four, with room to spare when needed. It has a comfortable ride, adequate power, and is good looking. After all those repairs, we haven't had any more issues.
