Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.
The first-generation Acadia was sold alongside its second-generation replacement as the Acadia Limited.

Common Gmc Acadia problems
The GMC Acadia is a popular SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on complaints from owners:
- Check Engine Light: The check engine light is a common problem in the GMC Acadia, often pointing to a powertrain control module problem. This issue can be fixed with a simple software update. However, if the code points to a known camshaft problem, a technician is needed to complete GM’s prescribed fix.
- Faulty A/C System: Some Acadia model years have struggled with a flawed A/C system, which can lead to decreased cooling performance. The root cause is often an evaporator leak that prevents cooling in one zone or the entire vehicle.
- Engine Problems: Earlier Acadia models, particularly the 2008, 2010, and 2011 models, were prone to engine issues. These problems could lead to the engine slowing down and ultimately stopping in the middle of the road. Many owners had to spend a significant amount of money on engine replacement.
- Power Steering Failures: Some Acadia owners have reported issues with the power steering, especially when making slow turns or during parking. This issue is more common in earlier model years.
- Fuel Gauge Inaccuracies: Some Acadia owners have found that their fuel gauge doesn’t provide accurate readings, leading to instances of running out of fuel unexpectedly.
- Suspension-Related Problems: Drivers have complained about noises from the front end, especially when driving over bumps or rough roads.
- Brakes: Some Acadia owners have raised concerns over squeaking noises or reduced braking efficiency.
- Ignition Switch Problems: Some users have reported problems with the ignition switch, including the vehicle not starting or the key getting stuck.
- Electrical Complaints: Beyond the “Shift to park” issue, the Acadia has had other electrical complaints, such as random warning lights illuminating or the infotainment system rebooting unexpectedly.
- Water Inside the Vehicle: Some Acadia drivers have found water inside their vehicles, especially around the footwells.
While these problems can be frustrating for Acadia owners, it's important to note that not all vehicles will experience these issues. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent many of these problems from occurring or becoming more serious.
Do GMC Acadia have issues?
Common GMC Acadia Problems
Transmission fault: According to RepairPal, GMC Acadias with a six-speed automatic transmission may develop faults related to a broken 35R clutch wave plate within the transmission system. This may lead to symptoms like slipping transmission, harsh/rough shifting, and loss of reverse gear.
Are GMC acadias reliable?
According to repairpal.com, the GMC Acadia scores a three out of five in general reliability. This number puts it at 22nd when compared to 32 similar vehicles, less than ideal for reliability. The annual repair cost of the GMC Acadia is $734, almost $200 more expensive than the average of $573 for other midsize SUVs.
Do GMC acadias last long?
The GMC Acadia can last for over 200,000 miles. Many owners have kept their Acadia SUVs past that mileage with few issues.
What are the pros and cons of the GMC Acadia?
Cost to Drive. We like the Acadia for its comfortable ride, powerful V6 upgrade engine and easy-to-use technology features. Sadly, these advantages are kept in check by its disappointing interior quality, somewhat underpowered base four-cylinder engine, and limited third-row and cargo space.

This is a dangerous situation in that the car could easily roll when I am not in it. I know that this is an ongoing issue with the 2017-2018 GMC Acadia and don't understand why GMC won't issue a recall for this. If this were to cause injury or an accident then they are 100% liable. I started having these issues about a week ago. My husband took it to the dealership and they told him that its not a recall or under warranty. I cannot afford to fix this myself at this point.

- VIN: 1GKKRSKD7HJ

While outside of warranty, this is clearly a design and manufacturing flaw.

I picked up my 2014 Acadia Denali a little over a month ago and have put approximately 800 miles on it so far. It is the quietest car I've ever driven as well as the most comfortable and luxurious. It has some great safety features that most newer cars have available now like blind spot monitoring and a back-up camera. My last car was eight years old, so this is all new to me.When it was less than a week old, I took a 280-mile round-trip and got about 22 mpg on regular gas. My last SUV barely squeezed-out 16 on premium fuel on a trip.

My family and I spent about a month searching for the perfect vehicle. We test drove a variety of cars, from Lexus to Toyota to Volvo, and more. We were specifically looking for an SUV/Crossover. After trying them all, we found that the Acadia was the clear winner in every aspect. It has a great and smooth ride for a large vehicle, is super spacious, has great gas mileage for its size (we don't agree with other people's concerns about the true MPG), and has all the functionality one would want in a car of this class. We have been driving the car for two months now and are 100% satisfied with our purchase. If anything goes wrong, the 100k warranty should cover us. We give this car an A+ rating, and it also has a 5-star crash rating.

I researched extensively and considered all options, ultimately narrowing it down to the Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner, and Acadia. After test driving the Durango and Jeep, I found that the driving positions were not ideal as the steering wheel blocked the gauges and the A Pillar in the Jeep was too wide with a low roof line. Additionally, the Durango's load floor was too high with the rear seats down, causing discomfort for my dog and myself. While the 4Runner was a good option, the rear air vents were blocked when the rear seat was folded flat and the passenger seat was not adjustable and sat too high for my comfort. Unfortunately, there was no sunroof delete available in my state, which was a disappointment as I am 6'3

I recently purchased a 2016 GMC Acadia SLT-1 and I'm really happy with my decision. I needed a vehicle that could handle snowy conditions and had a usable third row for my older children. After researching the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander, I found that their third row seats were not very practical. However, the Acadia's third row seats are spacious and easy to fold down, which is really convenient when loading groceries or other items. The ride is very comfortable and smooth, and my kids love the amount of space they have in both the rear and third row. The car drives like a big car rather than a truck, which is impressive given its size. The twin sunroofs make the interior bright and airy, and my kids enjoy being able to listen to a different radio station than I am. The air conditioning works great and cools the car down quickly, even in hot weather. Although it doesn't have Apple Carplay, it still has a decent amount of technology to keep things interesting. I'm looking forward to testing it out in the snow!Update 12/22/18 - I'm still loving the car! The ride is so smooth and comfortable. The flexibility of the seating and storage is incredibly helpful, especially for a family vehicle like this one. I recently took it on a road trip to VT and was pleasantly surprised to get 25 mpg on the highway - amazing for a car of this size!

I bought this vehicle in 2014 from the dealership when it had only 10,000 miles on it. It was previously driven by the wife of the dealership owner. Unfortunately, I had to replace the power steering pump and steering rack when it reached 50,000 miles, which was not covered by the warranty as it had expired at 36,000 miles. Although this is a known issue with earlier models and is the subject of a class action lawsuit, I also had to replace the accelerator module and had problems with the ECM. Additionally, I had to replace the struts and shocks, and the gas mileage is poor while the car is noisy to drive. Despite these issues, the leather interior and other features are still okay.

This car has had several issues, including transmission replacements, power steering failures, liftgate problems, sunroof leaks, and issues with the passenger windows and radio. It has been a costly investment.

We've put 40K miles on this car and unfortunately had to have the A/C repaired three times. Luckily, we purchased the extended warranty which has been a lifesaver. On another note, we had some trouble updating the navigation system. The dealership had to order it from the manufacturer and during the 2-hour upload, all our saved locations were wiped out. Since then, it has been malfunctioning frequently which is a bit frustrating. :(

Vehicle year: 2011
I am disappointed with the gas mileage of my 2011 Acadia, as it has been averaging 9-11 MPG instead of the state MPG of 16/23. Even on a 200+ mile highway drive with cruise control, I only achieved a record high of 14 MPG. When I contacted the dealer for service, they suggested that it just needed to be broken in for another 1000 miles. Additionally, the AC initially cooled well, but after a few weeks, it stopped getting very cold. Despite contacting the dealer, they informed me that the temperature is within spec. In our 90+ degree weather, everyone who sits in the car asks if I can turn the AC down to make it cooler or stop it from blowing lukewarm air. Lastly, there is an alarming 'clunk' after reversing about 10 feet.

The car was purchased for $41,200 on 6/24/14 with 55,000 miles on it, and an extended warranty was also purchased. Although there were some issues with the starter, ignition, and headlights, they were promptly replaced under warranty. Unfortunately, the engine failed at 91,000 miles, but thankfully, the Easycare extended warranty is still valid until 12/17. Despite some challenges with GM and Cochran, we are confident that we will find a solution to this issue. We remain committed to providing a high-quality driving experience for our customers.
