The GMC Acadia is a crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors for its GMC division. The first-generation GMC Acadia shared the GM Lambda platform with the Saturn Outlook, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave. The Acadia went on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Buick-Pontiac–GMC dealership network, the midsize GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Buick Terraza, and the GMC Envoy XL and then subsequently the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet TrailBlazer and the Isuzu Ascender. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted for 2011. In 2017, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle in order to compete within the growing midsize SUV market against the likes of the Ford Explorer, Edge, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
First generation (2007)
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle, and also the first such vehicle of any kind since the 1973-78 GMC Motorhome.
The Acadia has seating for eight and either front or all-wheel drive. With a 5,200 lb (2,359 kg) towing capacity, the Acadia slots between the GMC Terrain and the Yukon. The Acadia is the mid-priced Lambda model between the Chevrolet Traverse and Enclave.
In December 2006, all production and sales of the Acadia (and the Saturn Outlook) were temporarily stopped due to the engine mounts not having holes drilled to release accumulated water, as well as an issue with potentially faulty rivets in the load floor just forward of the vehicle's rear hatch. The assembly process was quickly adjusted, and dealership sales of the vehicles had resumed within days of the notice.

Having previously driven a Buick Enclave for 5 years, we knew what to expect with the Lambda platform, which is shared between the Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. We find the refresh has given this CUV a more truck-like presence, which appeals to both male and female drivers in our family. The fit and finish is exactly what one would expect from GM, with improvements made to the transmission in the Acadia (no more searching for gears up hills), less flashy wheel offerings, and better-integrated telematics (bluetooth, nav, DVD). Overall, we believe that GM now offers one of the best values for the content and quality in this segment.

I looked at everything & mean everything! It came down to the Dodge Durango, Jeep GC, Toyota 4Runner & Acadia. I rented a Durango and Jeep for a couple of days. Both of them had driving positions that didnt allow me to read the gauges because the steering wheel blocked it. In the Jeep, the A Pillar is way to wide & the roof line to low to be comfortable. With the rear seats down, the Durangos load floor was so high that my dog was breathing down my neck and could be pitched out the side window. The 4runner was nice, but the rear air vents were blocked when rear seat was folded flat, the passenger seat sits very high and is not adjustable plus no sunroof delete available in my state(Im 6'3").

If you own and enjoy an Acadia with Denali trim, you'll be pleased to know that this is a refreshed model with a few enhancements. The most noticeable changes include better daytime LED lights, a joystick adjustable steering column, USB charging ports, and lane shift and 'approaching too fast' alerts. The corners are slightly more rounded and there is more trim under the front and rear bumpers. The engine and towing capacity remain the same. However, if you like this model, it's best not to wait for the 2017 models. The upcoming Acadia will be 700lbs lighter, have a shorter wheelbase, and a towing capacity that is 1200lbs less. It will be an Acadia in name only. It's unfortunate that the GM 'Braintrust' has discontinued the Trailblazer, Acadia, and Envoy, and replaced them with vehicles that have less interior room, ride worse, and can only tow small fishing boats, all while costing the same. Additionally, the deep lubricated slide rails for the 2nd row captain seats can accumulate debris, which is not ideal. The inside material is made of plastic, which is a poor choice of material as it can easily get scuffed and marked up, making it unsightly. However, the maintenance costs for this type of vehicle are average. On the bright side, the vehicle boasts great interior storage capacity, including a glovebox, center console armrest area, and rear liftgate area.

My wife and I recently upgraded to the 2010 Acadia from our 2000 4Runner. One of the main reasons we chose this vehicle was because of the 2nd row captain's chairs, which make it easy for our kids to get to the 3rd row. Overall, we are very happy with the vehicle, although we do wish the gas mileage was better (16.5 MPG overall with mostly highway driving). The only issue we have encountered is with the front seats. Unfortunately, the curve of the seat and the forward angle of the headrest make it difficult to sit comfortably, despite trying every adjustment possible. However, our kids love the car and our friends have complimented its appearance. Despite the issue with the seats, we are still very satisfied with our purchase.

Looking for an AWD SUV to replace my 2015 Kia Optima EX, I was won over by the Acadia All Terrain SLE2. I love the way it looks and drives, especially with the V6 engine and AWD system that make me feel safe on the road. Despite a few issues, the dealership was quick to fix them, and I appreciate their service. Although I have experienced some problems with the sunroof and water leakage, I still enjoy driving my Acadia. I recently purchased a 2019 Acadia, but unfortunately, after just three days of ownership, I experienced an issue with the rocker panel. Due to the hot weather and the vehicle running for an extended period, the metal expanded and caused the door to catch the rocker panel, resulting in damage. Although I brought the vehicle to a body shop, GMC only authorized a repair rather than a replacement of the defective part. Despite my frustration, I understand that GMC has policies in place and I am hopeful that we can come to a resolution that satisfies both parties.
