Chrysler New yorker problems
The Chrysler New Yorker is an automobile model produced by Chrysler from 1940 until 1996, serving for several decades as either the brand's flagship model or as a junior sedan to the Chrysler Imperial, the latter during the years in which the Imperial name was used within the Chrysler lineup rather than as a standalone brand.
A trim level named the "New York Special" first appeared in 1938, while the "New Yorker" name debuted in 1939. The New Yorker helped define the Chrysler brand as a maker of upscale models that were priced and equipped to compete against upper-level models from Buick, Oldsmobile, and Mercury.
The New Yorker was Chrysler's most prestigious model throughout most of its run. Over the decades, it was available in several body styles, including sedan, coupe, and convertible.
Until its discontinuation in 1996, the New Yorker was the longest-running American car nameplate.

My family of four has enjoyed this luxury sports sedan for over four years now. It has provided us with several trips to TCBY and Dairy Queen for heavenly treats when the temperature has been over 100 degrees. It has been very reliable. The only issue we have had is having to replace both tie rod ends, but that may be due to wear and tear. Overall, I would highly recommend this car to anyone. Go Chrysler!

Vehicle year: 1992
I've always owned luxury cars, including Lincolns, Cadillacs, and now my first Fifth Ave. After owning all types, I would rank the Fifth Ave as second best, with Lincoln coming in first and Cadillac's coming in last. I've never been happy with the Cadillac, from its ride to its comfort. On the other hand, Lincoln is the best. However, I do take my hat off to their Fifth Ave, as it has been a joy to drive and has all the comfort and features I would expect from a car of its class. I'm truly happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. I'm 36 years old and will never go for a sports car because I was raised on luxury.

Vehicle year: 1994
Purchased new, now with 176,000 miles and I still love the car. I bought a 100k extended warranty and used it for a seized up water pump at 78,000 miles and a transmission issue at 97,000 miles. I also had some problems with the A/C, but overall, no major issues in the last several years. I can't seem to find a new car for $40,000 that would offer more value than this one and make me feel like I got my money's worth.

This has been a great family car. It's very comfortable for long trips and the trunk holds a huge amount of cargo. Although I did have some trouble diagnosing an issue with the A/C, it was eventually fixed after multiple repairs by 2 dealers and 1 private mechanic. The only major repair I had to do was the timing belt, all other repairs were standard.

It's great to hear that you've enjoyed your New Yorker for such a long time and that you find it spacious and stylish. However, it's unfortunate to hear about the reliability issues you've experienced, including the need to replace the transmission, steering parts, front axles, and wheel bearings. It sounds like you've had to deal with a lot of repairs. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Vehicle year: 1995
I've replaced the engine, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, inner tie rods, radiator and thermostat. Unfortunately, the a/c compressor is seized, 2 dummy lights are on and can't be reset, and the fuel sending unit doesn't work. I understand that this may not sound ideal, but I want to be transparent about the car's condition. While I have fixed many of the issues, there may still be some things to address. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this car to anyone. Thank you for considering this information.

I purchased this car in excellent condition with only 72,000 miles on the clock. Unfortunately, the transmission failed within 30 days. Despite this experience, I remain confident in my ability to make informed purchasing decisions in the future. While I cannot recommend this particular vehicle, I will continue to explore other options in the market.

Your car sounds like it was a real adventure! I can tell you really enjoyed it, even with all the issues you had. The velour seats sound super comfy, but I can see why your kids might have thought the tufted back seat looked like the inside of a coffin. If you ever have the chance to get another one, I hope you do!

This car had several issues from the day I purchased it used with over 120,000 miles on it. Despite these challenges, I was confident in my ability to address them. The climate control was not functioning properly, only blowing A/C cold air through the windshield defrost vents, and the windscreen wipers only worked on high. Additionally, the gas mileage was poor and the tape deck was not functional. Unfortunately, the transmission failed after only two weeks of ownership. These issues were disappointing, but I remained confident in my ability to handle them. It is important to note that these problems were not the fault of Chrysler.
