1994 Chrysler New yorker problems

chrysler logo

The Chrysler New Yorker is an automobile model produced by Chrysler from 1940 until 1996, serving for several decades as either the brand's flagship model or as a junior sedan to the Chrysler Imperial, the latter during the years in which the Imperial name was used within the Chrysler lineup rather than as a standalone brand.

A trim level named the "New York Special" first appeared in 1938, while the "New Yorker" name debuted in 1939. The New Yorker helped define the Chrysler brand as a maker of upscale models that were priced and equipped to compete against upper-level models from Buick, Oldsmobile, and Mercury.

The New Yorker was Chrysler's most prestigious model throughout most of its run. Over the decades, it was available in several body styles, including sedan, coupe, and convertible.

Until its discontinuation in 1996, the New Yorker was the longest-running American car nameplate.

Positive 1994 Chrysler New yorker car reviews

  1. Nelson Torp 2024-11-03

Purchased new, now with 176,000 miles and I still love the car. I bought a 100k extended warranty and used it for a seized up water pump at 78,000 miles and a transmission issue at 97,000 miles. I also had some problems with the A/C, but overall, no major issues in the last several years. I can't seem to find a new car for $40,000 that would offer more value than this one and make me feel like I got my money's worth.

  2. Jamel Terry 2024-10-22

My New Yorker has been a great performer both around town and for long trips on the interstates. The adjustable seat was a godsend for my passenger who needed rest. Although the timer belt went out around the 60K level, it has been a reliable car overall. Two side chrome strips have fallen off, but unless you knew they were there, it's not noticeable.

  3. Troy Wehner 2024-09-22

This has been a great family car. It's very comfortable for long trips and the trunk holds a huge amount of cargo. Although I did have some trouble diagnosing an issue with the A/C, it was eventually fixed after multiple repairs by 2 dealers and 1 private mechanic. The only major repair I had to do was the timing belt, all other repairs were standard.

  4. Efren Kuhlman 2024-09-20

This car has proven to be quite unreliable, requiring extensive repairs costing over 2k in just 2 years. The mechanical issues are significant and may require the expertise of a mechanic, which is something to consider before purchasing. Currently, there is a forecasted cost of 700.00 for rack-pinion work, not including tie-rods and ball joints. The transmission may also need attention, with an estimated cost of 2800.00. It is worth noting that this car has a POOR rating with most auto sources.
