2010 Infiniti Qx56 problems

infiniti logo

The Infiniti QX80 (formerly called the Infiniti QX56 until 2013) is a full-size luxury SUV marketed by Nissan's luxury division Infiniti. The first-generation QX56 was built in the United States and is based on the first-generation Armada. The second-generation model was released in 2010 as a model produced in Japan, which used the sixth-generation Patrol (later also marketed as the second-generation Armada since 2016) as the base vehicle instead. Since the 2014 model year in 2013, the vehicle was renamed to the QX80 as Infiniti renamed their entire product line under a new nomenclature.

First generation (JA60; 2004)

The first-generation QX56 (model code JA60) is based on the first-generation Armada, while also sharing the F-Alpha platform with the first-generation Titan. It is the first Infiniti built in the United States. The QX56 was only marketed in the United States, Canada, Russia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Development on the JA60 QX56 began in early 2000 alongside the WA60 Armada. A final design by Masato Takahashi was reached in early 2001, with an August 2001 design freeze for early 2004 start of production.

The rear door handles were installed on the C-pillar as a Nissan design tradition started with the D21 Pathfinder released in 1985 to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.

The first-generation QX56 was powered by a 5.6-liter VK56DE V8 engine (320 hp (239 kW) at 4,900 rpm and 393 lb⋅ft (533 N⋅m) torque at 3,600 rpm) and a 5-speed automatic transmission with an overdrive. As is common with aluminum blocks, each cylinder in the engine was lined with cast iron. The valvetrain was a DOHC design with four valves per cylinder. Infiniti designed the QX56's throttle responsiveness to correspond to specific drivetrain modes: when the driver selects all-wheel drive, the throttle becomes less sensitive, presumably to allow easier regulation of acceleration when off-road.

The QX56 had around 9,000 lb (4,082 kg) of towing capacity. Mileage at peak performance drain is 12 miles per US gallon (20 L/100 km; 14 mpg‑imp). It comes in one trim level, with only key options such as: DVD entertainment system, 4WD/2WD, and a bench instead of captain chairs as the second row. Other features which came standard were a ten-speaker Bose system, DVD-based navigation system, leather trim for all seats, dual-climate control, 18-inch chrome alloy wheels, and an adaptive cruise control system. A Precrash system was a unique feature in the market as well.

Since the demise of the Q45 (which was priced above the QX56) after 2006, the QX56 was the most expensive Infiniti sold in North America and was Infiniti's only full-size vehicle.

In early 2007 for the 2008 model year, the Infiniti QX56 received a minor facelift which included a revised grille, a redesigned interior, a new intelligent key system, more standard equipment, new third-row seats that fold electronically and standard 20-inch chrome wheels. Introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in January 2007, the facelifted model went on sale in April 2007.

After the 2010 model year, the QX56 and Armada no longer share the same body, as the first-generation Armada continued to be produced in the United States until the 2015 model year, while the second-generation QX56 switched to the body used by the Y62 Patrol.

Obviously, this is a tremendous life and safety risk and should be resolved by the manufacturer.

2016-07-19

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-07-13
  • VIN: 5N3ZA0NF4AN
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: THE REAR OVERHEAD CONSOLE FELL WHILE DRIVING. APPARENTLY IT WAS DUE TO THE HEAT ON THE ROOF THAT MELTED THE 6 CLIPS INSIDE THAT HOLDS IT TO THE CEILING, I'M CONFIDENT THIS HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND NEEDS BE CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. IF MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN WERE IN THE VEHICLE IT COULD HAVE EASILY KILLED ONE IF NOT BOTH. FLIMSY PLASTIC BRACKETS THAT CAN EASILY MELT, SHOULD NOT BE USED IN A VEHICLE LIKE THIS. CURRENTLY, THE ONLY THING HOLDING IT UP IS THE MAIN POWER CABLE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL SINCE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF INFINITY AND NISSAN ARMADA'S WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. AND TO THINK THEY WANT $90K FOR THE NEW QX WITH CHEAP CRAP UNDER THE HEADLINER. REALLY?!?! WHEN I CONTACTED INFINITY USA, THEY ACTED SURPRISED AND SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING, AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT CONSUMER AFFAIRS READ OFF THEIR SCRIPT TO ME.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-10-31
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: I HAVE BEEN THE OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE SINCE JUNE OF 2014 AND PURCHASED IT WITH 53K MILES. THE UNDERBODY HAS SUBSTANTIAL RUST FOR THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS RUST HAS SEIZED THE ALIGNMENT BOLTS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND IT CANNOT BE PROPERLY ALIGNED WITHOUT MAJOR REPAIRS(IN EXCESS OF $1500). A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE SHOULD NOT HAVE CORROSION TO THE EXTENT THAT A REAR END ALIGNMENT IS NOT POSSIBLE. I HAVE TWO OTHER VEHICLES SUBSTANTIALLY OLDER WITH LESS UNDERBODY CORROSION. I BELIEVE THE COATING/PARTS USED ARE DEFECTIVE AND WHEN I CONTACTED INFINITI THEY REFUSED TO COMPENSATE OR MAKE THE REPAIRS. THIS IS TROUBLESOME AS THE ALIGNMENT CAN AFFECT THE STABILITY OF THE VEHICLE AND COULD RESULT IN A ACCIDENT. *TR

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-08-14
  • VIN: 5N3ZA0NC5AN
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: COMPLAINT: I AM WRITING TO NOTIFY NHTSA OF THE EXTREMELY LACK OF STABILITY CONTROL WITH MY VEHICLE. THE LACK OF STABILITY CONTROL OCCURS WHEN DRIVING OVER SMALL UNEVEN SURFACES AND CAUSES THE STEERING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. DEALER DIAGNOSIS: I VISITED AN INFINITI DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND PRESENTED MY CONCERNS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WERE NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY OR RECTIFY MY CONCERNS. ON DECEMBER 8, 2011 - SHEEHY'S INFINITI OF ANNAPOLIS, MD - MY VEHICLE ODOMETER READING WAS AT 23,539. ON MAY 2, 2013 - JBA'S INFINITI OF ELLICOTT CITY, MD - MY VEHICLE ODOMETER READING WAS AT 45,034. ON JANUARY 20, 2014 - SHEEHY'S INFINITI OF ANNAPOLIS, MD - MY VEHICLE ODOMETER READING WAS AT 55,430. CUSTOMER COMMENTS: SEVERAL OWNERS AND PREVIOUS OWNERS OF THE 2008-2010 QX56 (VIA RESEARCH) EXPERIENCED VERY SIMILAR SUSPENSION AND STEERING FLAWS. IF THIS IS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE, I DO NOT FEEL THAT IT IS THE CONSUMERS FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY TO TRY TO CORRECT IT, WHICH IS WHY I CONTACTED (VIA EMAIL) INFINITI'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFICE ON JANUARY 24, 2010. AFTER SPEAKING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AND REVIEWING MY VEHICLE HISTORY, [XXX] (FROM INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS) CONTACTED ME ON JANUARY 31, 2014. [XXX] RESPONSE WAS EXACTLY LIKE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS: SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY A PROBLEM. MY WIFE NORMALLY DRIVES THIS VEHICLE, BUT IT BECAME OBVIOUS TO US THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG AROUND JULY OR AUGUST 2010. THERE IS A SERIOUS FLAW IN THE MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT AND/OR DESIGN OF MY 2010 INFINITI QX56 4X4 SUV THAT SCARES THE HECK OUT OF MY WIFE AND KIDS WHEN DRIVING IT. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD, BUT WE HAVE TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT IS OUR ONLY FAMILY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION. I WOULD LIKE INFINITI TO CORRECT MY VEHICLE DEFICIENCIES OR REPLACE MY VEHICLE WITH ONE THAT IS SAFE TO DRIVE. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-11-16
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 5N3ZA0NE4AN
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: I OWN 2010 QX56. ON NOVEMBER 16TH I WAS COMING OUT OF PARKING GARAGE AT CHICAGO O'HARE AIRPORT. AFTER I PASS THE PAY BOOTH, WITH IN 15 FEET AT THE SPEED OF 4 TO 5 MILES PER HOUR, I LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE OF SOME MALFUNCTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY. STEERING WHEEL MOVED 180 DEGREE IN ONE SECOND AND HIT THE PAY-BOOTH. CAR HIT THE SIDE PAVEMENTS OF THE PAY-BOOTH AND CAUSED THE FLAT TIRE, DAMAGE THE BODY OF THE CAR AND STEERING WHEEL GOT LOCKED. ALL THE POWER-STEERING FLUID GOT LEAKED OUT. I HAD A FRACTURED THUMB BECAUSE OF THE RAPID MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND ENDED UP TOWING TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALER REPLACED THE WHOLE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THIS CAN BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO GO ON A HIGHWAY. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I AM NOT SURE I WOULD BE ALIVE. *KB

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-01-01
  • VIN: 5N3ZA0NE8AN
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 INFINITY QX56. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING OVER A POT HOLE AT ANY SPEED, THE STEERING WOULD BECOME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE WHERE THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSIS AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL. THE DEALER ALIGNED THE WHEEL BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000.

  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS AN 2010 INFINITI QX56. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THERE WAS A DELAY RESPONSE. SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-01-10
  • VIN: 5N3ZA0NC8AN
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: A FAULT CODE GETS SET AND DEACTIVATES THE REAR AIR LEVELING SUSPENSION. WHEN THAT HAPPENS, NO AIR TO THE AIR SHOCKS AND IT BOTTOMS OUT. SUPPOSEDLY, ONLY THE DEALER CAN RESET IT. A REAL PROBLEM WHEN TOWING A TRAILER. AND EVEN WORSE, THERE IS NO DRIVER ALERT WHEN IT HAPPENS OR AFTER IT HAS HAPPENED -- YOU JUST LOOSE YOUR REAR SUSPENSION. VERY DANGEROUS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES FOR ME IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS -- EACH TIME I HAVE TOWED A TRAILER I NEED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT RESET. THEY TRIED TO REPLACE THE AIR PUMP, BUT THAT DID NOT WORK. THE DEALER INITIALLY BLAMED AN OVER LOADED TRAILER -- BUT THE TRAILER WAS WEIGHED AND SHOWN NOT TO BE OVERLOADED. MY COMPLAINT HAS TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT THE SUSPENSION IS INTENTIONALLY COMPLETELY DEACTIVATED BY THIS FAULT CODE AND THEIR ARE NO WARNINGS PROVIDED THAT IT IS DEACTIVATED. *TR

Negative 2010 Infiniti Qx56 car reviews

  1. Sofia Donnelly 2024-09-04

Hi there! I recently upgraded to the 08 QX56 and was excited about the sound system with a built-in hard drive for all my music. However, I was disappointed to find out that the hard drive can only be loaded by recording CDs, which takes a long time. Unfortunately, I no longer have any CDs and the Compact Flash Medium is not very user-friendly. I couldn't find any information about this limitation on the Infiniti website or marketing materials, and the salespeople didn't seem to know much about it either. It's also worth noting that the system only has a single CD player. Personally, I wouldn't pay extra for this feature and would recommend going for the Armada instead. On a positive note, I haven't experienced any brake issues with my new car. Thanks for listening!

  2. Ayden Rogahn 2024-08-22

The truck is amazing! Congratulations on your purchase! I understand that you needed to replace your 07 EXT due to a baby on the way and safety was a top priority. It's great to hear that the truck was able to protect you and your wife during a dangerous situation. Adding a remote starter and an I-Pod attachment sounds like a great idea! It's always nice to have some extra features that make your life easier. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

This includes cleaning the interior and exterior at regular intervals, because you know, your car drives and rides better when it's clean :). We purchased this Infiniti (2008 QX56) used in 2010 with 28k miles from Atlanta. We have owned many Porsche's, BMW's, Ford Expedition, etc. However, this Infiniti is the best car we have ever owned! We purchased an extended warranty (100K additional miles) at 95k for $2400 from Carchex years ago in fear of a major catastrophe repair required before we were ready to replace

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned having three kids and your wife not wanting a minivan. I wanted to suggest the QX56 as a great option for a luxury SUV that can accommodate your family. It's packed with features and is a fantastic value for the price. The best part? All the bells and whistles are included in the price, except for nav and Tech Package. Unlike other companies that charge extra for options, the QX56 won't break the bank. Let me know if you have any questions!

Love it! It sounds like you've got everything you need with this car. The sound system is fantastic, and I love that the Bluetooth connects and disconnects seamlessly - I've tried other manufacturers' systems and they just don't compare. The voice control is a great feature too. The rear view camera is the best I've seen - the image displays in milliseconds and the lines and noise alarm make parking a breeze. It's also perfect for when you're towing a boat trailer. The engine is so powerful and reliable, I can't imagine driving without the intelligent cruise control anymore. And the interior is just luxurious - it's like flying first class! Overall, it sounds like you've made a great choice with this car.

I am a business owner and have owned several vehicles in the past, including a 2004 Z71 Avalanche, 2006 Z71 Suburban, and 2008 Landrover LR3. I was looking for something new and different, something that was in between in terms of size. After test driving a 2010 QX56, I was impressed with what it had to offer. It is 207 inches long, which is smaller than the Suburban but larger than the LR3. It fits nicely in my garage and has plenty of room inside, as well as a nice ride and all the bells and whistles. With $7K worth of manufacturer incentives and the new 2011 model arriving late summer, which will be smaller like the LX570/LC, the deal was too good to pass up. There is nothing else out there with all of these features and warranty for the same price ($53K OTD). Get them while they last!

I owned a 2004 (first year model) and had several problems with it. However, I finally decided to get a new one to take advantage of all the modifications and upgrades. I was pleasantly surprised by the numerous improvements. From the much more luxurious interior (with more wood grain) to folding mirrors with directional signal, heated steering wheel, larger DVD screen, power rear seat, larger wheels.... and the list goes on and on. They did everything right and I am absolutely in love with my 2008.
