Nissan Rogue problems

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.
As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.
First generation (S35; 2007)
The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.
The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common Nissan Rogue problems
The Nissan Rogue is a popular compact SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on complaints from owners:
- Incorrect Fuel Level Reading: A faulty sensor in the gas tank can cause the fuel gauge to read incorrectly. This problem has been reported by 191 owners and typically occurs after an average of 62,370 miles. The repair involves replacing the fuel level sending unit, which can cost between $1,261 and $1,354.
- Check Engine Light with Error Code P0444: This issue has been reported by 34 owners and is often caused by a broken wire at the canister purge volume control solenoid valve. The problem typically appears around 88,935 miles of driving. Nissan offers a kit to repair this problem.
- Sunroof Not Closing Completely: The sunroof of the Nissan Rogue might not close completely due to interference from the original factory wind deflector. This problem has been reported by 21 owners and generally appears after 44,055 miles of driving. A revised wind deflector can correct this issue.
- Transmission Failures: Customers have reported transmission failures in various model years of the Nissan Rogue. The unloved CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) results in plenty of engine drone and can cause a sudden loss of acceleration. This issue has been particularly prevalent in the 2013 model year, with many customers reporting significant repair costs.
- Body/Paint Issues: Customers have also reported body and paint issues in various model years of the Nissan Rogue. These issues can range from minor cosmetic defects to more significant problems that affect the vehicle's structural integrity.
- Engine Acceleration Problems: Some owners have reported issues with engine acceleration, including sudden loss of power. This issue has been reported for various model years, including the 2018 Rogue, and can be caused by different factors, such as problems with the forward collision avoidance system or the CVT.
- Electrical Issues: Electrical problems, such as issues with the ignition key or engine harness damage, have also been reported by Nissan Rogue owners. These issues can lead to stalls or other unexpected vehicle behavior.
It is essential to note that the reliability of a vehicle can depend on various factors, including the specific model year, maintenance history, and usage patterns. NissanConnect also sent me a text at 5:12 Saturday night, all repair stations closed. Nissan Rogue 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-19
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-20
- VIN: 5N1AT3BB9MC
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The assessment is I was simply driving down [XXX] where I live, and my car started this horrible wobbling in the front end and I couldn't control the steering wheel. I was able to safely get the rogue pulled over to the side of the road. I got out upon looking at the car, I couldn't see anything wrong on the outside. But, upon further examination, I got down and laid down and looked under the car, it revealed that the driver's side inner tie rod had snapped in half. This is not normal being my car only has 46k on it. I called my brother in law who is a mechanic and sent him pictures of it and he confirmed it was the tie rod. So I started googling to find a replacement and low and behold, Nissan is under investigation for this problem happening in the 21 Nissan rogues to ike I have. I called suntrup Nissan where I had purchased the car in May and was basically told by the parts dept there, that there was nothing they could do to help me because they wouldn't even be able to get the part for at least two months. I find that ridiculous. Nissan doesn't even manufacture parts for their own vehicles they sell.. my brother in-law searched until he finally found a place in China that makes them for this model and mwe have one ordered 103.00 for the tie rod. I couldn't find where my car was in the recall but I feel so should be because it's the same problem they are under investigation for. I cannot afford to have my car looked at at a dealership, because I already pay 600. Month. For the car and I don't have extra money laying Round. nd the dealer already basically told me don't know what to tell you cause we wouldn't be able to fix it.. so I need to know what do do to at least be reimbursed for the labor I've had to pay someone to look. At this and for the part and then changing it.. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- Date Complaint: 2024-10-18
- VIN: JN8BT3DD9PW
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Our 2023 Nissan Rogue with only 15,000 miles suffered complete engine failure (engine seized) driving on busy [XXX] passing through Baltimore. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk, and if we hadn't been in the left lane (allowing rapid access to the breakdown lane) we would have been in a multi-car pile-up going at high speeds. Afterward, my safety was at risk waiting for 5h on the busy highway waiting for a tow truck. There was a slightly rough engine sound just 15-30 minutes prior to the engine seizure, but no warning messages. The only message that appeared was "Engine Failure" at the moment the engine seized. The car was towed to the local Firestone Service station where they confirmed engine seizure with normal oil levels. We do not know if the oil had been compromised by infusion of gasoline (as we have now discovered is a problem with the Nissan Rogue engine). The car was subsequently towed to Bob Bell Nissan in Baltimore, and they have yet to inform us of their conclusions after 5 days. Route 9 Nissan in Westborough (where we bought the care) did not inform us that this was a potential problem nor that it is under investigation by the NHTSA. - Summary: Nissan put faulty roof rack seals on my vehicle. This is the same issue as they had in 2021 when they issued a service bulletin. They are willing to fix the roof rack seals but not replace the headliner. This has caused an unhealthy musty smell in the cabin and a big stain on the headliner and A-Pillars. Nissan corporate will not cover the cost of a new headliner and A-Pillars but can’t guarantee a stain free headliner to pre-stain condition

I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Rogue, which has been a trusty companion for almost 9 years and has clocked in an impressive 230,000 miles. Despite some known issues with this model, I've been able to overlook them and enjoy my time with the car. Recently, however, I've encountered some trouble with the transmission, which has been whining and shuddering. After having it towed, I found out that it needs a new transmission. Despite this setback, I still believe that the car has been a great value for the $21,000ish that I paid for it. I only wish that I had something to trade in, as I won't be fixing the transmission. Thank you for listening to my story.

When my lease on the 2017 Rogue was up, I decided to upgrade to the 2020 model for its advanced safety features. Surprisingly, my car insurance premium even went down! I find that the new Rogue handles better and rides smoother than the previous model. It's the perfect size for me and has all the cargo room and versatility I need. While it may not be the fastest car out there, it has enough power to smoothly merge onto the highway and provides a comfortable ride at my usual cruising speed of 80. To be honest, I can't think of anything I don't love about this car!

You've only put 284 miles on it! I can understand how learning about all the technology can be overwhelming. Despite feeling larger than it is, the ride is comfortable and powerful. It's definitely more car for your money compared to the CRV and Toyota Rav, especially considering the Rav's outdated body.

I'm glad to hear that you're satisfied with this vehicle! It's great to know that it has a good mileage for an all-wheel drive crossover, and that the 4-cylinder CVT engine provides enough power. I'm confident that you won't be disappointed.

I traded in a GMC Envoy because the gas mileage was killing me and I didn't really need such a big car. Although the interior is well made, it's quite plain and simple. The car performs well, but I wouldn't call it fun. However, after 18 months, it has grown on me as a very good all-around, practical, safe, comfortable, and reliable mode of transportation.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan car. Recently, I had some trouble with the CVT and it caused my car to lose power on the freeway during heavy traffic. Unfortunately, my car is just over the power train warranty of 60k and I was told it would be 3k to replace the transmission. While this experience was frustrating, I'm hopeful that Nissan will be able to address these concerns and improve the quality of their cars. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my experience.

The 2013 Rogue had only 56,000 miles on it when the engine light went on during a cold winter trip. Despite my initial belief that the suitcases were bogging it down, the car had been sluggish on a previous trip as well. Upon reaching the nearest Nissan dealer 142 miles later, it was discovered that the transmission was shot. However, Nissan already has a fix-it kit for the transmission and has made improvements to the warranty for earlier models. Although the design of the transmission has been problematic, the issue has been addressed and resolved. It is important to note that steep grades for more than 6 miles should be avoided. Overall, the 2013 Rogue is a reliable car with a 60,000 mile warranty.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan Rogue 2014 SV full package with moon roof. Since I bought it in December 2013, I've had to go back to the dealer a few times. The first time was because it was missing the All Wheel Drive Harness - they simply forgot to install it on my car! There was no AWD nor Hill Descent, but the part was ordered and installed. It kind of makes you wonder, what else did they forget to install? But the best one yet, I noticed that the area under the passenger seat was moist. At first, I thought it was spilled water and ignored it, but it kept coming back more and more. I took it to the dealer and he said it was a clogged sunroof drain, which he fixed. However, to my surprise, I noticed around 1

I recently purchased a brand new Rogue just 7 days ago. Yesterday, I decided to test the ProPilot feature on the freeway. Unfortunately, after only 5 minutes, the warning light came on and displayed a message saying 'CVT malfunction Service not available'. I pulled over to a stop, turned off the engine, and restarted it. The warning light disappeared. I got back on the freeway and turned on the autopilot again, but after about 3 minutes, the warning light came on again. I couldn't turn it off, so I had to pull over and stop the engine again. This time, the CVT malfunction light was gone, but the engine check light was on and I couldn't turn it off. I called the dealer and dropped the car off for them to fix it. It was frustrating to experience this issue after spending over $32k on a brand new car, and only after 120 miles. I have never experienced anything like this before with a new car. I am disappointed and feel like I should have gone for a different brand.

Vehicle year: 2014
I have a 2014 SL AWD Rogue. There are some things to like about it, such as good gas mileage (especially on the highway), decent acceleration, good handling in snow, comfortable front seats, great sound system in the SL model, pretty good cargo capacity, and okay visibility. However, I have had some serious issues with it from nearly day one, and as time goes on, I realize that there are also many annoying features that I was not able to identify during the test drive. The worst problems I have had are with the infotainment system. Unfortunately, the voice recognition is poor, and I have never been able to get the Nissan Connect app connected with my new model phone, despite the dealer's and Nissan Corp's efforts. The Sirius radio cuts out when I drive by a tall tree and goes out completely for about 20 seconds several times an hour. It also periodically stops to reload. I've had Sirius radios in my cars before, and this is by far the least reliable. The navigation is poor at best. Often when I enter what I know is a valid address (using voice recognition), it comes back with some location in another state 3,000 miles away that doesn't even sound like the correct location. Sometimes it gives a trip time and distance that assumes I can drive directly to the destination even though there's a river between me and the destination, overlooking the time and distance required to go the nearest bridge first. It fails about 40% of the time to locate Points of Interest (again using voice recognition), including international airports in my state. I started trying to get these and other issues resolved with the dealer the first week I owned it. Unfortunately, I found that except for one guy (our expert) who worked at one of their remote locations, nobody there understood the systems. I met with the expert, who tried reloading the software several times with no success. They promised to discuss with Nissan, but no solutions resulted. I contacted Nissan and opened a case. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the good features of my Rogue. After numerous dealer visits and even more phone discussions with them, Nissan offered me one free month car payment for my trouble, but no fixes. Although I declined, I appreciate their effort to make things right. They said they are working on the problems, but could not say when they would have them resolved. It's now 15 months since I picked up the vehicle and I have had some issues, but I have also had some great experiences. I drive a lot (currently at 30k miles), and I have owned many similar vehicles. I can say that for me, the Rogue had some challenges, but it also had some great features. It also has some lesser annoyances including; 1) the CVT can't find the right gearing when accelerating uphill, usually running the RPMs up to almost 4000 before I give up and take my foot off the pedal, 2) many of the systems are set up to prevent the driver (or passenger) from using them while the vehicle is in gear, 3) the front wiper arms collide with and scratch the hood if you try to lift them out to clean the windshield, and the rear wiper likewise does not lift away from the glass, 4) when the vehicle is wet there's a loud whistle coming (I think) from the roof rack, 5) my front rotors warped at 22k, not covered of course, 6) within 1 year, the leather driver's seat began to show signs of checking and wrinkling, like a much older vehicle, 7) if you drop something between the center console and the seat, kiss it goodbye, 8) the Nissan navigation system does not provide traffic, you have to contract with Sirius for traffic, 9) the rear camera has poor resolution, 10) at about 28k it became obvious I would need tires soon, although I rotated them regularly. I will not buy tires, nor will I spend any more time or effort on this disappointment. It's getting traded next week. And not on another Nissan, ever. UPDATE 2/13/17 So, a lot has changed...after writing the original review I did not trade the Rogue as I intended, I actually took it on a 23,000 mile cross-country trip. And along the way, I made my peace with the vehicle. There isn't enough space here to tell the whole story, but I wanted to share my experience with the Rogue. Although I initially disliked some of its features, such as the CVT, wipers, tire and brake wear, I eventually stopped hating the vehicle. After being rear-ended by another SUV while stopped, my Rogue was completely totaled, but I walked away unharmed. I test drove many vehicles in the same class, but ultimately decided to replace my Rogue with a new 2016 Rogue SL. The addition of blind spot monitoring, collision warning, moon roof, sport and eco modes, and a much better operating CVT made me truly appreciate my new Rogue. I'm grateful to Edmonds for giving me the opportunity to update my review. Please note that the details below only apply to the new 2016 model.
