Nissan Rogue problems

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.
As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.
First generation (S35; 2007)
The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.
The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common Nissan Rogue problems
The Nissan Rogue is a popular compact SUV, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on complaints from owners:
- Incorrect Fuel Level Reading: A faulty sensor in the gas tank can cause the fuel gauge to read incorrectly. This problem has been reported by 191 owners and typically occurs after an average of 62,370 miles. The repair involves replacing the fuel level sending unit, which can cost between $1,261 and $1,354.
- Check Engine Light with Error Code P0444: This issue has been reported by 34 owners and is often caused by a broken wire at the canister purge volume control solenoid valve. The problem typically appears around 88,935 miles of driving. Nissan offers a kit to repair this problem.
- Sunroof Not Closing Completely: The sunroof of the Nissan Rogue might not close completely due to interference from the original factory wind deflector. This problem has been reported by 21 owners and generally appears after 44,055 miles of driving. A revised wind deflector can correct this issue.
- Transmission Failures: Customers have reported transmission failures in various model years of the Nissan Rogue. The unloved CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) results in plenty of engine drone and can cause a sudden loss of acceleration. This issue has been particularly prevalent in the 2013 model year, with many customers reporting significant repair costs.
- Body/Paint Issues: Customers have also reported body and paint issues in various model years of the Nissan Rogue. These issues can range from minor cosmetic defects to more significant problems that affect the vehicle's structural integrity.
- Engine Acceleration Problems: Some owners have reported issues with engine acceleration, including sudden loss of power. This issue has been reported for various model years, including the 2018 Rogue, and can be caused by different factors, such as problems with the forward collision avoidance system or the CVT.
- Electrical Issues: Electrical problems, such as issues with the ignition key or engine harness damage, have also been reported by Nissan Rogue owners. These issues can lead to stalls or other unexpected vehicle behavior.
It is essential to note that the reliability of a vehicle can depend on various factors, including the specific model year, maintenance history, and usage patterns. NissanConnect also sent me a text at 5:12 Saturday night, all repair stations closed. Nissan Rogue 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-19
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-20
- VIN: 5N1AT3BB9MC
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The assessment is I was simply driving down [XXX] where I live, and my car started this horrible wobbling in the front end and I couldn't control the steering wheel. I was able to safely get the rogue pulled over to the side of the road. I got out upon looking at the car, I couldn't see anything wrong on the outside. But, upon further examination, I got down and laid down and looked under the car, it revealed that the driver's side inner tie rod had snapped in half. This is not normal being my car only has 46k on it. I called my brother in law who is a mechanic and sent him pictures of it and he confirmed it was the tie rod. So I started googling to find a replacement and low and behold, Nissan is under investigation for this problem happening in the 21 Nissan rogues to ike I have. I called suntrup Nissan where I had purchased the car in May and was basically told by the parts dept there, that there was nothing they could do to help me because they wouldn't even be able to get the part for at least two months. I find that ridiculous. Nissan doesn't even manufacture parts for their own vehicles they sell.. my brother in-law searched until he finally found a place in China that makes them for this model and mwe have one ordered 103.00 for the tie rod. I couldn't find where my car was in the recall but I feel so should be because it's the same problem they are under investigation for. I cannot afford to have my car looked at at a dealership, because I already pay 600. Month. For the car and I don't have extra money laying Round. nd the dealer already basically told me don't know what to tell you cause we wouldn't be able to fix it.. so I need to know what do do to at least be reimbursed for the labor I've had to pay someone to look. At this and for the part and then changing it.. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Nissan Rogue 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-13
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-18
- VIN: JN8BT3DD9PW
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Our 2023 Nissan Rogue with only 15,000 miles suffered complete engine failure (engine seized) driving on busy [XXX] passing through Baltimore. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk, and if we hadn't been in the left lane (allowing rapid access to the breakdown lane) we would have been in a multi-car pile-up going at high speeds. Afterward, my safety was at risk waiting for 5h on the busy highway waiting for a tow truck. There was a slightly rough engine sound just 15-30 minutes prior to the engine seizure, but no warning messages. The only message that appeared was "Engine Failure" at the moment the engine seized. The car was towed to the local Firestone Service station where they confirmed engine seizure with normal oil levels. We do not know if the oil had been compromised by infusion of gasoline (as we have now discovered is a problem with the Nissan Rogue engine). The car was subsequently towed to Bob Bell Nissan in Baltimore, and they have yet to inform us of their conclusions after 5 days. Route 9 Nissan in Westborough (where we bought the care) did not inform us that this was a potential problem nor that it is under investigation by the NHTSA. - Summary: Nissan put faulty roof rack seals on my vehicle. This is the same issue as they had in 2021 when they issued a service bulletin. They are willing to fix the roof rack seals but not replace the headliner. This has caused an unhealthy musty smell in the cabin and a big stain on the headliner and A-Pillars. Nissan corporate will not cover the cost of a new headliner and A-Pillars but can’t guarantee a stain free headliner to pre-stain condition

I bought this car brand new and have never had any issues with it. I've owned a lot of cars in the past, including Pontiac, Olds, Ford, Kia, Dodge (horror stories on transmissions), and Toyota, but this is by far the best car I've ever owned. With AWD, it handles the cold, harsh climate of Upper Peninsula Michigan with ease. During snow storms, I've passed many 4WD trucks on the side of the road and made it home safe and sound. I would definitely buy another Nissan Rogue and highly recommend this car. Update: I still have my Rogue, and although it's starting to show some wear and tear, it still drives great in the winter. The only issue I've had is with the air conditioner, which needed to be replaced. With about 158,000 miles on it, it's still a great car. I'm even thinking about getting a new Rogue next year and giving this car to my teenager to drive. :)

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2018 Nissan Rouge S that I purchased on 10/23/2018. Unfortunately, on my way home, I encountered a malfunction warning on the dash regarding the emergency braking system. After 5-10 minutes of driving, it would shut off, causing the malfunction. I took it back to the dealership, and they informed me that they had just started hearing about the issue, which was a bit disappointing. After doing some research, I found out that the issue had been reported as early as February 2018. They did mention that Nissan is working on a solution and will schedule a sensor replacement. In the meantime, I have to drive with a malfunction alert on my dash. I have noticed that the emergency brakes are coming on when there is nothing in front of me, which is a bit concerning. Overall, I am a bit disappointed with my 2018 Nissan Rouge at the moment. Thank you for listening to my experience.

I was pleasantly surprised by this vehicle, which exceeded my expectations based on a review I read on Edmunds. I was looking for a car that had comfortable seating, was quiet at freeway speeds, had good gas mileage, and a cargo area with useful dimensions. Over the course of a year, I test drove a variety of vehicles, including the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Venza, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sportage, Kia Sorento, Ford Escape, Ford Edge, Volkswagen Tiguan, Subaru Forester, and BMW X-3. Despite Edmunds' review stating that there was elevated wind and road noise at highway speeds, I found this vehicle to be among the quietest I had driven. In fact, it was much quieter than the highly praised CX-5 and equally quiet to the Venza. The seats were also very comfortable, much better than the highly praised Kia/Hyundai products. Edmunds' review also stated that the back seat was smaller, but I found this to be incorrect. Perhaps they mistakenly reviewed the smaller Nissan Rogue Sport instead? The Rogue is the only vehicle I found with a cargo area tall enough for me to carry bikes inside, with a cargo area height of over 2.5 ft. Additionally, it has a flat cargo area once the rear seats are folded, making it perfect for camping trips or long drives. The Rogue also has the best gas mileage of any non-hybrid SUV I looked at, and its gas mileage is near that of the more expensive hybrid SUVs. Nissan achieves this with a three-cylinder engine that varies its compression ratio based on throttle inputs. Despite its efficiency, this engine feels very powerful and the vehicle accelerates rapidly when asked. This engine is coupled to a CVT that is tuned to have the feel of a conventional automatic.

After researching for two months, I finally decided on the Nissan Rogue as my small SUV of choice and I couldn't be happier! The Rogue meets my two key requirements of having plenty of back seat space and great gas mileage. As a 6' tall driver, I have ample head and leg room, and the back seat is huge with reclining seats. Even the base model has an elegant interior and handles great on the road with a smooth ride. The eco button located left of the steering wheel is my favourite feature, allowing me to achieve the best gas mileage possible. With a 30-mile commute to work five days a week, I only have to refill my tank once a week. At 25,000 miles, everything is still smooth as silk and I have not experienced any of the popping sounds some reviewers complained about. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my Rogue!

Vehicle year: 2017
At first, I was searching for an affordable SUV and came across a Mitsubishi Outlander 2016. It seemed like a good deal and had great safety features. While browsing, I decided to visit the Nissan dealer to see what they had available. I looked at a 2016 Rogue, which seemed nicer than the Mitsubishi, but then I saw the 2017 Rogue and it was even better. The interior of the 2017 model has a sportier feel to it, and even the steering wheel is different. The color of the vehicle is also unique. After careful consideration, I finally decided that the 2017 Rogue was the perfect fit for me. With features like eco mode, sport mode, and other safety and luxury features like Bluetooth, XM Radio, and TPMS for the tires, I feel like it's a great investment. I no longer have to worry about breaking down on the side of the road. I can just turn the key and drive.

Vehicle year: 2015
I purchased this car brand new in 2015 and have been driving it for about 45,000 miles per year, with 90% of those miles being on the highway. I live in northern Maine, just one mile from the highway, where the average speed is 80mph. Unfortunately, after 2+ years and 96,000 miles, I needed a new transmission (100K warranty). Then, one year later at 140,000 miles, the dealer informed me that I needed a new engine due to a failure of the PCV system, which caused a loss of compression in all four cylinders. The estimated cost for the repair is $9,500. Despite having complete records of all maintenance performed on this vehicle, Nissan consumer relations informed me that they would not assist in the repair cost, even though they acknowledged that this car has unique problems. Additionally, the car has had an issue for the last year and a half where it suddenly loses all power, which is fixed by turning the car off for 30 seconds. Although the dealer could not find a reason for this problem, I have had to replace the window regulators twice. While I love the interior of the car and have never spoken badly of Nissan (even after the transmission problem), I am now completely unsatisfied.

The 2023 Rogue has a known issue with gas smell, which Nissan is currently addressing through an Engineering Review. While the smell may be noticeable after a certain mileage, Nissan dealerships are checking for gas leaks to ensure safety. Rest assured that Nissan is taking the necessary steps to resolve the issue and provide a fix. In the meantime, loaner cars are available for customers while their Rogue is being serviced. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this process.

Hey there! I noticed that you're having some trouble with the Android Auto feature on your dashboard. That can be really frustrating, especially when it's a feature you were excited about. Have you tried reaching out to the app people directly? They might be able to help you troubleshoot the issue. I hope you're able to get it sorted out soon!

The car has all the basic features and runs smoothly on the highway. I would have given it a four-star rating if it weren't for the issue with the automatic emergency braking (AEB). Unfortunately, I have experienced three false engagements within less than a year, which is quite dangerous. Despite having the latest software on my 2019 model, there is no way to permanently disable the feature. I have noticed that many people have also complained about this issue. Overall, the car is great, but the AEB problem needs to be addressed.

Update: The Nissan shop informed us that the issue was a failed battery and they replaced it free of charge. It's surprising that a brand new car battery could fail so soon. We are hoping this was a one-time occurrence. Original review: We purchased a brand new 2023 Rogue with the hope of having a safe and reliable family car. Unfortunately, after just one month of ownership and less than 1,000 miles, it had to be taken to the shop. While driving with our kids on a busy road, the engine power cut out and the dash displayed a Reduced Engine Power / Engine Malfunction light. Fortunately, we were able to get off the highway safely. This was not how we anticipated our new Rogue ownership to go. We had to get a tow truck and an Uber with car seats, which was a nightmare. However, our dealer provided a free loaner car, which was promised to us at the time of purchase. We are nervously awaiting the diagnostic results and will keep you updated. If you are considering buying a new Rogue, make sure the dealer you buy it from provides free loaners.
