The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.

As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.

First generation (S35; 2007)

The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.

The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common 2016 Nissan Rogue problems

The 2016 Nissan Rogue has been reported to have several common problems, including excessive battery drain, issues with the gearbox, and problems with the electrical system.

One of the most common problems with the 2016 Nissan Rogue is excessive battery drain. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty alternator, corroded cables, or a malfunctioning electrical system. The battery may drain completely, leaving the vehicle unable to start. This problem can be expensive to fix, as it may require the replacement of the battery or the alternator.

Another common problem with the 2016 Nissan Rogue is issues with the gearbox. The CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) gearbox in the 2016 Rogue has been reported to have problems, including malfunctioning and being expensive to repair. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has received several complaints about this issue, and it has been the subject of a class action suit.

The electrical system in the 2016 Nissan Rogue has also been reported to have problems. The electrical system can cause engine failure, and the cables can develop corrosion. This model is not able to withstand severe weather due to the susceptibility of the internal parts to corrosion. The electrical system can also cause the battery to drain charge and display a low voltage.

The 2016 Nissan Rogue has also been reported to have problems with the heating and cooling systems. These problems are caused by corrosion and unclean filters, which can cause the vehicle to use more energy than necessary.

In addition to these common problems, the 2016 Nissan Rogue has also been reported to have issues with the transmission, including sudden refusal to shift out of first or second gear. This issue has been reported to be a computer issue/bug, and it resolves right away after power is turned off/on. This problem has been reported to occur rarely, but it can be a cause for concern for owners of the vehicle.

In conclusion, the 2016 Nissan Rogue has several common problems, including excessive battery drain, issues with the gearbox, and problems with the electrical system. These issues can be expensive to fix and can affect the safety and reliability of the vehicle. It is important for owners of the 2016 Nissan Rogue to be aware of these common problems and to have their vehicle inspected and maintained regularly to ensure its safe and reliable operation.

Does the 2016 Nissan Rogue have any problems?

More than half of the 2016 Nissan Rogue's consumer complaints registered with the NHTSA are for CVT gearbox issues, faulty heater systems, and engine stalling. Plus, the compact SUV's six recalls include a recent one over corrosion of electrical components.

What is the electrical problem with the 2016 Nissan Rogue?

2014–2016 Rogues could experience corrosion in an under-dash electrical connector, which could lead to problems from power-window-control failure to a fire. Nissan will recall 688,946 of its 2014–2016 Rogue SUVs to fix a problem with the electrical connector for the under-dashboard harness.

What is the transmission problem on a 2016 Nissan Rogue?

The problem: The continuously variable automatic transmission may shake, shudder, bump or vibrate during normal operation in certain Nissan vehicles, including select Altimas and Rogues. This is due to either a faulty valve body inside the transmission or the CVT needing to be replaced.

What is the biggest problem with Nissan Rogue?

The problematic transmission system is the likely culprit for the Rogue's most reported issue: acceleration loss. Reports claimed they experienced shaking, jerking, and stalling before the SUV accelerated. Faulty A/C: The Rogue's A/C system is prone to malfunction, causing it not to heat or cool the interior.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-18
  • VIN: 5N1AT2MVXGC
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: While driving home from work, the Nissan went from 50mph, suddenly down to 4mph. (literally 4mph) Pressing the gas down all the way would not allow the car to move any faster. It would occasionally get up to 15mph, but wouldn't stay. I was LUCKY beyond belief that a car or semi didn't hit me at highway speed before I could move over in rush hour traffic. Both the local dealership and Nissan USA executive offices concluded that this does not fall within the extended warranty forced on them by the NTHSA for many, many similar incidents. The dealer, asking like it was an oil change, asked if I wanted a new $9k transmission. As I can't afford anywhere near that, nor is the car worth it, I was required to drive it home from the dealership, again putting my life at risk. IN ADDITION - a recall repair was requested (the driver door wiring harness) - and the dealership told me that it was completed. They did not complete this recall either. Nissan should not be allowed to make vehicles in the USA. If they actually stood behind their product and made repairs and replacements when there are manufacturing issues, I would feel much better about the situation. For now- I want to ensure no one I care about actually dies from driving a Nissan.

There had been no previous damage to the window and I was on a completely paved road with no construction or other vehicles near for anything to have hit the window. The glass went inside all over my back seat and even into the trunk area, if my children had been in the backseat they could have been seriously injured and I could have swerved due to being startled but luckily I was able to safely pull over. I took it to the Nissan dealership to see if they could inspect it to see if it was a defect or fault of the vehicle and they told me there was nothing they could do that I would just need to file a claim with my insurance.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-17
  • VIN: KNMAT2MV3GP
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: The left rear suspension arm has failed. This part supports the left rear tire and wheel assembly and its failure cause the left rear tire and wheel to tilt to about a 45 degree angle. The car was able to be safely stopped, although control was severely effected. Continued driving would likely have caused the tire and wheel to separate from the vehicle. See attached photo. It appears as if the rear suspension arm welds have broken and or the part has failed due to corrosion. It is a 2016 vehicle with only 105,000 miles. See attached photos. The last photo shows the right rear suspension link, undamaged, to illustrate the extent of degradation on the left side. The Girard Nissan dealership in Groton, CT informed me they have seen a number of cars with this problem, but there has been no recall. The provided a verbal order of magnitude estimate to repair the vehicle, based on photos, at $4,000 or higher.

SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-04
  • VIN: KNMAT2MV6GP
  • Components: SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: In September 2023, my 2016 Nissan started vibrating with noise. It was not shortly after that a warning appeared on the console. The warning, "Chassis Control System Error" caused research as the vehicle worsened. As I was driving, a warning of the brakes shutting down appeared. I returned home in time, and parked the vehicle. The truck was then sent to the mechanic where I was told that the transmission failed. The CVT failed at 83,000 miles. The vehicle is currently at a Nissan dealership service department, while I'm in the process of litigation with Nissan North America, Inc. Nissan offered just $1500.00 towards an estimated $6000 CVT repair bill. This problem is an extension of the 2022 Class Action Lawsuit that needs to be re-established. Nissan manufactured the vehicles with the knowledge of the defective CVT and did not make the consumers aware of the defect. Nissan dealerships also needs to be held accountable for their knowledge of the fraudulent act of Nissan to the consumers. Dealerships sold the vehicles also with the knowledge of the defective CVT. Nissan manipulated the law with a bogus extended warranty that protects Nissan from having to correct the wrong.

Negative 2016 Nissan Rogue car reviews

  1. Aiden Fadel 2024-11-08

In January 2016, I traded in my 2008 Rogue for a brand new 2016 Rogue. My 2008 Rogue had 112,000 miles on it and the transmission had to be replaced when it hit 100,000 miles. Fortunately, it was covered under warranty. Nissan had been experiencing transmission issues and had extended the warranty, which was a stroke of luck for me. However, 12,000 miles and 14 months later, the transmission went out again and had to be replaced. Again, it was covered under warranty, but this time the transmission was only warranted for a year. Not wanting to take any risks, I decided to trade the car in for a new Rogue. I was told that the new CVT transmission was much better than the old one. Unfortunately, the 2016 Rogue that I have had for 11 months and has 12,700 miles on it is now having the transmission replaced. I went to the sales department to trade the car in, but they only offered me $16,000 for it, which I found disappointing. I had hoped that my loyalty to Nissan would have been taken into consideration, but unfortunately, it wasn't. Despite this, I have had a great experience with the service department at the dealership. The service advisors are wonderful and always make sure that I am taken care of with a loaner vehicle while my car is being worked on. While I am disappointed with Nissan's product, I am grateful for the excellent service that I have received from the dealership.

It seems like the road noise in the Rogue can be quite loud. Luckily, it's my wife's car so I only have to ride in it occasionally. I've been suggesting to my wife that we trade it in since we first got it.

If you are an owner of a Nissan Rouge SL 2015, it is important to check the voice recognition feature by saying 'point of interest and the location'. This will ensure that the feature is working properly. Additionally, if you experience any issues with the air conditioning, such as it not cooling or blowing warm air, it is recommended to bring your vehicle to a certified Nissan dealer for prompt and efficient service. Thank you for choosing Nissan, we value your satisfaction and safety.

This car is packed with new concepts in safety, performance, and hospitality details. They may take some getting used to, and depending on your lifestyle, may not be necessary. If you prefer a simpler option, you may want to consider a less equipped vehicle and save some money. Unfortunately, I found the CVT performance to be quite poor and ultimately decided to trade the car in through my KIA dealership. We ended up getting a KIA NIRO Hybrid, which we are really enjoying.

Overall, I have been pleased with the car except for one thing. Unfortunately, the paint job has not held up well. There are paint chips all over the front end as well as on the sides. I wonder if this is an inherent problem with the quality of paint or the workmanship. Have you experienced anything similar?

We were also considering the Mazda CX-5, but we ultimately chose the Nissan because it is very easy for my aging in-laws to get in and out of the back seat. The Mazda had a much narrower door opening, and the back seat is slightly elevated, making it harder for passengers in the back to see. Although the driving experience isn't as sporty as the Mazda, we really like the CVT transmission and are impressed with the fuel economy around town. All of the buttons are in the right place, and we love the look of the beige interior.

I previously owned a Nissan Altima before switching to the Rogue and overall, I really enjoyed that car. However, I did experience some issues with the front end struts making squeaking noises in my 2005 model. I thought it was just a rare issue, but unfortunately, my 2016 Rogue started making a popping noise in the front wheels area when I turn the steering wheel at around 500 miles. Nissan has acknowledged that it is a manufacturing defect in the struts and they are currently working on a solution. Although I have already had one of the front struts replaced, the issue has actually gotten worse. At this point, I am looking at having to replace a front strut every 1,000 miles on average. While Nissan has assured me that it is not a safety issue, I do find it concerning that they do not seem overly concerned with finding a solution. Additionally, I have noticed that the paint on the wheels started coming off within the first month and the vehicle is prone to scratches and scars. Fortunately, I leased the vehicle instead of buying it outright, so I will only have it for a few years. I doubt that I would be able to sell this Rogue, as the popping noise is quite noticeable and would likely deter potential buyers.

Here are some other SUVs I tested: Mazda CX-5 was okay, but you could tell from the slope of the roof that the rear seats were going to be very tight. Unfortunately, my 13-year-old, 5'8

I previously owned a Nissan Altima and was impressed with the intuitive interior design of Nissan cars. After looking at Subaru, Lexus, and Toyota, I decided to purchase the Rogue. I was interested in a hybrid with good gas mileage and all-wheel-drive capability, and the Rogue felt like the right size and provided a comfortable ride. Although I have not owned the car long enough to know about maintenance costs or repair frequency, I am confident that it will be an easy car to maintain, just like my Altima.

I really love my 2016 Rogue SV (with premium package & moon roof pkg) because the adjustable seats are perfect for my 5' 3
