2011 Nissan Rogue problems

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.
As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.
First generation (S35; 2007)
The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.
The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-14
- VIN: JN8AS5MV9BW
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: I am the 2nd owner of a 2011 Nissan Rogue purchased in 2016. I have had four problems with the vehicle, the major one being the transmission that will not cool and overheats as soon as the temperature goes up. With the most recent heat wave, I have experienced no power going to the wheels. I had no power steering and had to push my car off the road with a friend with in the car. I also experienced a short in the system where it had no power at all and seemed to have no battery power, it clearly is an electrical short. The fourth issue is the passenger seat airbag. I have never received any notice from Nissan about any of these issues since I purchased the car used in 2016. When I called today, I was told that there were no recalls on my car and hung up on by Nissan America. I clearly saw four recalls that had been issued over the years on all four of these issues. I drive for the elderly, homeless, homebound and other persons in need in my community and have done so since I was 14 years old. I am a good citizen and have gone out of my way to try to make things right and just for all people. I am appalled at the conduct and behavior that I received on the phone today. I understand that my car is older but I would have returned my car for service if I had received a recall of which I received none. I know for fact that the recall for the transmission came out in 2016 and should have covered my car. I cannot take care of the people and continue with what I do in my community without a working car. I cannot afford a new car and surely do not deserve such disrespect.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-01
- VIN: JN8AS5MV0BW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEATS
- Summary: With no clear reason the passenger seat airbag system became defective. It did not detect passenger and always stays off. Took it to a certified Nissan dealer and they said it is a common issue, and the only fix is to reset it electrically or pay 2,500 for a new passenger seat. I opted to reset it electrically which cost $150 and was a temporary fix as the system resumed being defective after a few days. The defect is very dangerous as is disables the passenger airbag completely and will not deploy in the event of an accident which can be deadly.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-18
- VIN: JN8AS5MV6BW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I'm reporting the same as many others so that I have documentation. Last week while my daughter was driving back to college (about 170 miles), about halfway the vehicle began to slow down. As she pressed the accelerator, the engine would rev but the car would not accelerate. This was extremely scary as she was travelling on the expressway and there was a semi-truck directly behind her when this happened. A major accident could have happened. She ultimately made it to school taking about an hour longer than normal. She should have pulled over, but it was getting dark, and she was travelling alone. After she called and explained to me what happened, I researched the issue and found that this seems too very common relating to the trans fluid over-heating. The fix requires a cooler to added to the system to cool the fluid. Having personally worked on many cars including changing transmissions, this is not a quick cheap repair. Again, I'm thankful she wasn't rear ended. Nissan needs to address this known issue and compensate those impacted by this. I pray no one gets seriously injured.

Passenger side airbag light kicks on thinking there is a "child" or something light in the front seat which disables the airbag. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Passenger side airbag light kicks on thinking there is a "child" or something light in the front seat which disables the airbag. This is a known issue of the manufacturer but yet the refuse to include other years of these vehicles in their recall. There even has been a lawsuit on their "fix" because they just continue to use the same sensors even when replacing the recalled vehicles sensors. They also expect you to pay 2700 to replace an ENTIRE seat cushion to replace said sensor. I am sorry but poor people do not have that kind of money laying around. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes was reproduced and confirmed by a local Nissan Deal. They even cleared the code and within 2 weeks it appeared again in the same way/format. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-15
- VIN: JN8AS5MT4BW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My son was driving our 2011 Nissan Rogue that only has 58K miles on it. At first you could just feel a difference in the accelerator pedal and the transmission shifted gears. The car was shaking bad at 45 miles per hour when the car was warm. The gears started making noise during certain shifts in the transmission and sounded like driving over a rumble strip in the road, then would vibrate the same at about 55 miles per hour. The noise changed so when the car switches gears the noises would change in pitch. When it drives the noise is loud and you can feel it rock when the transmission is switching gears. You have to grip the steering wheel. If you consistently drive the noise and shaking would get worse and would make squeaking sound. When breaking the car rocks and hesitates as it downshifts. We first took the car to pep boys and they changed the front axle. They did a thorough check under the vehicle and everything look like normal wear and tear. There were no leaks. The car moved somewhat smoother drive wise, but there consistent mechanical problems were still the same. We took the car back to pep boys for the same issues and we replaced all the tires, brakes, checked wheel bearings, they did another thorough check and the transmission fluid was fine and there were no leaks. They did finally do a good test drive to and recommended a full replacement of the transmission. We then took the car to Nissan for another opinion and they said it was the transmission and that we had problems with the axles, even though we just had the axles replaced. Nissan ran full diagnostics and there are no codes or an engine light and the computer was good. We definitely don’t think these are normal problems. 1. The car only has 60K miles and has regular upkeep and maintenance. 2. It is definitely a safety hazard with the shaking and rocking and feeling like it won’t break in time. At this point it even does it at low speeds. It is not safe!

- VIN: JN8AS5MV7BW
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: Just bought my 2011 Nissan Rogue today and drove around off and on all day with no issues. I went to my son's house for approximately 5 minutes (left car running) and when I went to leave I had no acceleration. I tried pushing on the gas pedal with no luck. It literally coasted about a block before it finally stopped moving. I made a few phone calls and was told to shut the car off for about 5 minutes (which I did) and then turn it back on (which I did) and I put it in drive and it was all of a sudden fine. I feel as if there has been more than enough complaints regarding this issue with the 2011 Nissan Rogue and nhtsa should address this matter with Nissan who should be held accountable for this. I personally bought the vehicle based on all the good things I was told about it but now, not even 24 hours after buying it, I am regretting my decision. I should have stuck with my kia soul (she never let me down)!! I feel this is a HUGE safety issue

Congratulations on your purchase! It sounds like you made a great choice with your used 2011 Rogue. Your description of how it felt like 'your car' when you test drove it really resonated with me. It's great to hear that even with the 4-cylinder engine, the ride is still smooth and responsive. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the XM satellite radio and that the interior is more spacious than it appears. While the gas mileage may not be the best, it's still good to hear that you're getting around 24.2 MPG. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!
-
I really enjoyed reading your review! At first, I wasn't sure about the vibration at low speeds, but I learned that it's actually a fuel-saving function of the CVT. After the break-in period, the ride became much smoother. I especially love how smooth it is on the highway. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy during rain, almost like having a window open in the back. However, I'm still getting great gas mileage, averaging over 26 mpg in the city and approximately 29 mpg on the highway. The interior is lovely, and the seats are very comfortable. It handles well and is quite fun to drive. While the cargo area is small, it's not really an issue since I can lower the back seats when I need to carry more stuff. Overall, I'm very happy with my little SUV, even if it's not ideal for rainy days.
-
Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share an updated review of my Rogue SL after driving it for 36,000 miles. Overall, it's been a pretty good compact SUV. While the gas mileage could be a little better, I still average about 24 miles per gallon. One thing to note is that the car seems to scratch quite easily, especially on the driver's side door panel. I've even noticed some scratches on the outside that I can't explain. On the bright side, the leather seats are quite comfortable and the GPS works like a charm. I also love the sound of the Bose radio. Lastly, the rearview camera is a must-have in this car with all the blind spots. Thanks for reading!
-
You have the SL package (nav, leather, roof rails, fog lights, etc.). It's great to hear that you absolutely love your Rogue, even after buying it used with fairly high freeway miles. The acceleration is impressive for a 4 cylinder and it has no problem powering up hills. The steering is remarkably agile and responsive for a small SUV, which really inspires confidence. The interior is sharp, clean and VERY comfortable. At this price point, it's impressive that the Rogue balances being silent, smooth, and a sharp steerer. Although the CVT is somewhat noisy, it's easy to overlook when you're enjoying the ride with some tunes. It's amazing that your Rogue still drives wonderfully even after nearly 80K miles!
-
Your SL Rogue sounds like a great vehicle! I understand that you bought it for daily use and wanted it to be fully equipped. Although it has almost everything you need, it would be even better with a home link option, a rubber pad for the left foot rest, and a bigger screen for the nav/back up display. Despite these minor issues, the Rogue delivers. It's impressively quiet for a small SUV and cruises well on the highway. Additionally, after driving 10,000 miles in just 6 months, you're getting over 25 combined city/highway mileage, which is fantastic!

Our Rouge has experienced severe mechanical problems, including frequent bucking and jerking motions, as if the transmission was slamming into gear. Despite attempts to fix the issue at Auto Centers Nissan in Woodriver, Illinois, the problem persists. Even after consulting with Nissan's engineering department, only one other vehicle has ever exhibited these problems. Unfortunately, the issue has not been resolved and Nissan has refused to replace the vehicle. However, we remain confident in our assessment of the situation and will continue to pursue a resolution.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it used with 38000 miles on it and have been driving it for a bit over 2 years now, putting about 12000 miles on it each year. Unfortunately, the transmission needs to be replaced now that it has 64000 miles on it. The initial warranty expired after 60000 miles, but I found out that the Rogue's transmission had some issues from 2002-2010, which led to a class action lawsuit against Nissan. As a result, they extended the warranty on the transmission for those years to 120000 miles. Despite this setback, I still enjoyed my time with the car. However, I don't think I'll be buying another Nissan or any car with a CVT transmission in the future. Thanks for listening!

I purchased a 2011 Nissan Rogue with the expectation of making a sound investment. Unfortunately, within a year, the CVT in the transmission failed while I was driving on the interstate, barely making it to safety. Upon contacting Nissan Consumer Affairs, I was informed that the 2011 model is not covered under the extended warranty and was given an estimated repair cost of $3500. However, I am confident in my belief that this vehicle should be recalled and I am actively seeking information on any ongoing class action lawsuits. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased a used Rogue just over a year ago with 45,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, this summer the transmission started making a strange whining noise. After researching the issue, I discovered that there were a number of problems with the CVT transmission. I took it to Nissan and was informed that the whining noise can sometimes occur due to heat, but it's important to have the fluid levels checked regularly. The noise did stop when the weather got colder, and I now have the fluid levels checked during my oil changes. However, today the transmission suddenly failed. In hindsight, I wish I had done more research before buying this vehicle. A quick search would have revealed numerous complaints about these transmissions. It's a clear issue, so I would advise against purchasing this model.

I've been driving my 2011 SV AWD for 3 months now and have put 2300 miles on it. Although I take great care of it by keeping it in the garage, I have noticed some issues with the interior build quality. Unfortunately, I had to have the instrument cluster replaced due to a rattle inside the cluster, and the stereo rattles in the center console. There are also other rattles throughout the cabin, which is disappointing. However, on the bright side, the car does feel and drive like a sports car, with a very smooth ride as long as the road is smooth. Additionally, the stereo is very good. While the CVT is a bit noisy and doesn't do much for fuel economy, I still manage to average 24.6 mpg. Overall, I'm enjoying my time with the car and appreciate its sporty feel.
