2018 Nissan Rogue problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.

As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.

First generation (S35; 2007)

The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.

The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common 2018 Nissan Rogue problems

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is a compact SUV known for its user-friendly tech features, vast cargo space, and comfortable front seats. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:

  • Automatic Braking System Activating Suddenly: Some 2018 Nissan Rogue owners have reported that the automatic braking system has activated suddenly, which can be a safety concern.
  • Frozen Navigation System: A frozen navigation system has also been reported by 2018 Nissan Rogue owners.
  • Heater System Issues: Heater system issues have been reported by owners at around 30,000 miles. The line to the heater core can clog in extremely cold environments, causing the heater to stop working. In some cases, the line may need to be cleared out, which can cost around $250.
  • Transmission Issues: Some 2018 Nissan Rogue owners have reported issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT), which can contribute to the vehicle's lackluster driving experience.
  • Recalls: The NHTSA has issued three recalls for the 2018 Nissan Rogue, covering the brakes, a blown fuse that impacts the engine, and backup camera failure.

In summary, the 2018 Nissan Rogue has some common problems that owners have reported, including issues with the automatic braking system, navigation system, heater system, transmission, and recalls. However, these issues are not necessarily indicative of the vehicle's overall reliability, and many can be resolved with software updates or repairs.

The problematic transmission system is the likely culprit for the Rogue's most reported issue: acceleration loss. STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-22
  • VIN: 5N1AT2MT2JC
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
  • Summary: At March 23rd, 2024, we have oil change on the car. The service sales came back to tell us that the front lower control arms' bushing is torn and needed repair immediately. Without repairing them, the wheels may disengage from the car. So we have them replaced, since losing the wheels during driving will cost our lives. This is for our safety. What can we do???!!! On conversation with the sales, he said this is a common phenomenon. Our problem on this is that, all the cars that we have owned, we never had the issue. This is the first time. Is this a common occurrence? We are not sure. And we simply can not understand why eight months ago during another oil change, this issue was not detected?! Could this be a faulty component installed on the car, we questioned? We also contacted Nissan consumer affairs. Their specialist insisted our car is out of warranty. There is nothing they can do. Is this a responsible car manufacturer's response? At least, they should look in the issue and gave us a satisfying answer, we believed. Anyway, please look into this. On the parts that were replaced, dealership has them. We don't have them in our hand.Sorry about this. All and all, please look into the issue. We just want other Rogue owners spared of the issue! Thank you for reading this and have a great day!

2018 Nissan Rogue recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2018 Nissan Rogue.

2023-02-16
  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT:IMMOBILIZER/PROXIMITY:KEY/SENDER
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.
  • Consequence: Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.
2021-10-26

  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM)
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Rogue Hybrid vehicles. Contact with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) bracket may damage the engine harness, causing a blown fuse.

  1. Toni Toy 2024-10-18

I hope this message finds you well! Just a quick note to let you know that the engine may be a bit loud due to its power output. Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions!

  2. Gustave Toy 2024-09-03

I am experiencing some issues with my Nissan Rogue. Despite visiting multiple dealers, the problem has not been resolved yet. I am currently in the warranty period and I hope that the issue will be resolved soon. However, I am disappointed with my experience so far. I hope that Nissan can improve their services to better serve their customers.

  3. Angus Muller 2024-09-02

I purchased a brand new 2018 car just 11 days ago, with only 4 miles on it. Unfortunately, after 6 days, the right car door began bouncing and wouldn't close properly for about 10 minutes. Once it finally closed, it sealed shut tight, leaving my son unable to open it. I took it to the dealer for a warranty fix and they determined that the lock was defective. As a parent of 4 children, this was not reassuring. Despite my concerns, I was unable to return the car for a different model SUV. However, I am confident that the issue has been resolved and I will continue to monitor the car's performance closely.

  4. Colt Hansen 2024-09-01

I previously owned the 2009 Rogue SL AWD and loved it. Although it didn't have all the bells and whistles, it was beautiful and ran great. However, I recently upgraded to the 2016 Rogue SV AWD and have been a bit disappointed. As someone who does a lot of long distance driving, I find the driver's seat to be quite uncomfortable. Additionally, the GPS has been unreliable and has taken me to the wrong place multiple times. Many roads and routes are mislabeled or nonexistent. The Bluetooth system has also been a bit unreliable, with dropped calls and difficulty understanding others. Furthermore, the voice recognition software has not been working properly. Despite these issues, the car still looks great, but I do not feel that it is worth the price I paid.

  5. Freeman Hintz 2024-04-19

After driving 200 miles, the A/C stopped working. Unfortunately, despite four repair attempts, the air conditioning failed again at 1,800 miles. I understand your frustration and disappointment with this car, and I would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please know that we take these issues seriously and we are committed to finding a solution that meets your needs. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Positive 2018 Nissan Rogue car reviews

  1. Wyatt Dare 2024-10-17

This vehicle is fantastic! Driving it is an absolute blast. I'm so happy I decided to test drive a Nissan and ultimately make a purchase. My kids are over the moon about the panoramic moon roof, and the Bose speakers are crystal clear. Overall, it's been a great experience!

  2. Alfonso Konopelski 2024-10-07

I love the look of this vehicle! It's great that it has both style and economy, which is perfect for my wife. The price point is excellent, and it comes with all the latest gizmos.

  3. Sylvan Hodkiewicz 2024-09-22

The Rogue faces tough competition from Honda for price and reliability. However, we have been loyal Nissan customers since 1993 and have always been satisfied with our purchases, including Frontiers. Despite some road noise issues, we remain optimistic about the Rogue's performance and look forward to continuing our positive experience with Nissan.

  4. Frank Considine 2024-09-16

I compared several mid-size SUVs and the Nissan Rogue won my heart and my pocketbook! It's an overall great vehicle, and I'm thrilled with my Rogue AWD! I've been driving it for over a year now, and I'm having a blast! I especially love the fantastic safety features that I didn't have in my 2008 Honda Accord. The Rogue's safety features have prevented me from getting into several accidents so far!

  5. Mekhi Abernathy 2024-09-08

This has been the best value for money in my 40+ years of testing automotive applications for lubricants and fuels. The car achieves over 40 MPG if driven at reasonable speeds (speed limit) and the CVT works flawlessly. Although there may be a slight rattle on warm and sometimes cold start due to defective timing chain tensioners that bleed down, I have nothing but praise for this car. I analyzed the engine oil and CVT fluids for 2 years and 47,000 miles of use in the harsh conditions of far west Texas, including brutal dust and high desert mountains, and it performed exceptionally well. The only reason I traded it out was because we needed a 4WD version, as the 2WD version was not suitable for our needs.
