2020 Nissan Rogue problems
The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.
As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.
First generation (S35; 2007)
The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.
The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common 2020 Nissan Rogue problems
The 2020 Nissan Rogue has several common problems that have been reported by its owners. These issues include the emergency braking system turning on too frequently, alternator failures, and paint quality issues.
One of the most widespread complaints about the 2020 Nissan Rogue is the emergency braking system turning on too frequently, which is often caused by a dirty or damaged sensor.
Another issue that has been reported by some Rogue owners is alternator failures, which have occurred within the first 10,000 miles. When the alternator fails, the only solution is to replace it, which can cost around $500, including labor.
Paint quality issues are also a common problem with the 2020 Nissan Rogue, particularly affecting the front bumper, which is prone to chipping.
The 2020 Nissan Rogue has only one recall, which covers the ignition key, which can collapse and shut off the vehicle while it’s driving. Nissan will install a spacer in the folding key to prevent it from turning off.
In terms of reliability, a well-maintained 2020 Nissan Rogue can last around 250,000 miles, which is about 50,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other small SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $408 per year.
The 2020 Nissan Rogue comes with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that makes 170 horsepower while getting up to 29 MPG. It comes standard with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The 2020 Nissan Rogue is available in three versions: S, SV, and SL. The S is the entry-level model, while the SL is the flagship model, which has heated steering wheel, leather seats, power-adjustable front passenger seat, panoramic sunroof, and nine-speaker Bose sound system.
Is there any problems with 2020 Nissan Rogue?
Common problems found on the 2020 Nissan Rogue include the emergency braking system turning on too frequently, alternator failures, along with some paint quality issues. Overall, these problems are similar to some other compact SUVs on the market, leading to average repair costs as the Rogue ages.
What is the most common problem with Nissan Rogue?
The problematic transmission system is the likely culprit for the Rogue's most reported issue: acceleration loss. Reports claimed they experienced shaking, jerking, and stalling before the SUV accelerated. Faulty A/C: The Rogue's A/C system is prone to malfunction, causing it not to heat or cool the interior.
Does 2020 Nissan Rogue have CVT transmission?
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 170-hp four-cylinder and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is the standard setup. The CVT's sluggish response and languid power delivery cause the engine to wail under heavy throttle; this powertrain seems to drag the Rogue around town rather than pull it.
Is Nissan Rogue high maintenance?
The average total annual cost for repairs and maintenance on a Nissan Rogue is $467, compared to an average of $521 for compact SUVs and $652 for all vehicle models.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-10
- VIN: 5N1AT2MV3LC
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The ignition switch (push start button) stopped working. At the time, the key fob batteries were new. The key fobs were still working - the lock/unlock worked, the trunk release worked, and the remote start even worked. The 'trick' of holding the tip of the key fob to the start button did not start the car. This is a safety hazard because my car will not start. Luckily I was at home, but I could have been stranded somewhere. My car is currently at a Nissan dealership. I was hoping that the computer codes just needed to be reset. However, they are telling me the Body Control Module needs to be replaced. I would like the BCM investigated by the NHTSA. Previous years of the Nissan Rogue have had BCM issues. My particular car has not been in any circumstance that would make the BCM go bad - it's only four years old and has not been exposed to flood or extreme heat/cold. The 'key battery low' light came on the dash a couple weeks prior. I had just replaced the key fob battery in both fobs the day before the start button issue. The car is currently at: Cochran Nissan South Hills 3200 W. Liberty Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15216 412-245-4540 I have not yet authorized repairs.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-16
- VIN: 5N1AT2MV4LC
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Hello: We bought the vehicle in 2021. After a few months, we noticed that the vehicle braked itself: meaning it auto-braked while driving at 25mph on the road. We took the vehicle to the dealer for repair. They said, "the vehicle was absolutely fine and perhaps something in the way of the vehicle triggered braking". I, the driver replied, I didn't have any vehicles either in front of or behind me. And besides, I understand the "safety features" and functionalities. Yet, they gave me the vehicle without repair. After a few months, same thing happened: the vehicle auto-braked or braked itself without me the driver putting my foot on the brakes. This time I also called the company's consumer affairs who said they'd help. The consumer affairs worked with the dealer. The dealer now said, "yes the vehicle indeed had auto-braking issues and it could be fixed, and that they'll fix it". So, I, now assured that the vehicle was a 100% fine when it came to auto-braking had been driving the vehicle until today April 16th, 2024, when while driving out on the city in 25mph the vehicle auto-braked again! I emailed the dealer and also called the company's consumer affairs (at their headquarters) to keep them in the loop today, and expect to hear back from them. In this instance, (3rd in 2-3 years), I'm not sure whether the dealer will brush aside the problem as "nothing" as in the first instance, or purport to "fix the issue" without actually fixing it, as in the second instance. At any rate, it came down to a "matter of principle": meaning since I'm not sure if the vehicle's intrinsic defect will be "resolved completely ever", I have to report it to "governing authorities". I hope you will take it from here and do the needful. Thank you in advance for your support.

The mass air flow sensor was replaced, and the acceleration failure was corrected; however, the fuel odor remained inside the cabin of the vehicle. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,000.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-19
- VIN: 5N1AT2MV6LC
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The rear windshield of my car blew out overnight. Police came and determined there was no vandalism, it blew out. My car had been parked for at least 12 hours, with no shifts in temperature. Upon doing a google search and speaking to people on message boards, it seems this is quite a common issue on this car, with the damage presenting in the exact same way. Two holes on either side of the windshield with everything else shattered. Thankfully I wasn't driving at the time, but I did speak to one person who was. I attempted to speak with Nissan but they told me it was not under warranty and basically not their problem. No warning indicators or anything else that would have warned of issue.

They never explained why it failed inspection the first time. The dealership cannot fix it and ignores me mostly. they said its a sensor issue, a settings feature issue and to bring in the vehicle to reset the settings. the dealership said in so many unspoken words, its your problem. Ive had the vehicle about 2 weeks now.

2020 Nissan Rogue recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2020 Nissan Rogue.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT:IMMOBILIZER/PROXIMITY:KEY/SENDER
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.
- Consequence: Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

Our second rogue. I test drove other small 2020 SUVs, but I really liked all the safety features on the 2020 Rogue SL, as well as the ride and standard equipment. Plus, I never had any problems with my 05 Rogue in 66,000 miles. Now, I have a loaded 2020 Rogue SL!

I love my 2020 Rogue! It's the perfect fit for my family, with amazing safety features. Nissan's renowned quality is evident when you get behind the wheel - it drives like luxury and is actually quiet. The Rogue has lots of space in the back, and you can even leave it open or build a little shelf if you need to. It has great get up and go power. I could go on all day about how awesome my car is. I highly recommend the Nissan Rogue!

Drive smoothly with lots of features.

It seems like you're experiencing some issues with the vehicle. Before making a decision, it's important to do your homework and research your options. There may be better options available for the money you're willing to spend.

Have you ever experienced the frustration of feeling like you're being forced to do something you don't want to do? I recently bought a loaded 2020 Rogue SL in the fall of 2020, hoping it would be our next 5-7 year vehicle. Unfortunately, within the first month, the roof started rattling from the right rear corner/pillar and never stopped. Despite the dealership's attempts to fix it, the noise persisted. While the vehicle was nice and had good power, the roof rattle was a constant annoyance. We were disappointed in our first SUV purchase, but we decided to trade it in for a new 2021 Rogue Platinum. We're hoping that this vehicle will hold up better in our harsh cold climates. It's a really nice vehicle, and we're looking forward to a trouble-free experience this time around.
Vito Tremblay 2024-08-24
The 2020 Rogue has several issues that can be resolved with software upgrades, but unfortunately, none are provided. The back-up camera is dim, even when adjusted to maximum brightness, which is not saved, requiring resetting every time the car is started. The radio cannot be turned off when in reverse, and the radio channel selector does not work properly, requiring multiple attempts to change stations. The auto-high beam control is a great feature, but it does not restore high beams, and the clock does not adjust to daylight saving time, despite connecting to the home wifi network. Despite these issues, the RAV4 is a preferred choice due to its reliable features. Nissan customer service has been unresponsive to repeated requests for software fixes, and the dealer is unable to alter any of these deficiencies with the menu settings. Overall, the 2020 Rogue needs improvement to meet customer expectations.

I purchased my 2020 Nissan Rogue in April 2020. Unfortunately, within a week of driving it, the Malfunction light came on, indicating a potential crash that did not occur. Despite this issue recurring three more times, I am confident in the ability of Nissan to address and resolve this issue. While the experience has been less than ideal, I remain optimistic that the vehicle will perform to my satisfaction in the future.
