2014 Nissan Rogue problems
The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.
As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.
First generation (S35; 2007)
The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.
The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-13
- VIN: JN8AS5MV6EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: There has been an issue with CVT on this transmission for many years. My vehicle has had this happen 3 times now. When I’ve contacted my dealership they always tell me there’s no recall etc! When traveling on a highway in warm weather….the rpm goes way up and you can not accelerate. When you pull off and shut the vehicle off and start it again. It will work fine. I just read that Nissan had put a “governor “ on the transmission as a safety feature. And this was the suggestion to pull off and shut vehicle down for 10 minutes as this “resets” it! I was not made aware of this malfunction! When I called Nissan today the agent told me there was an extended warranty on my vehicle but it expired January 2022! There is ABSOLUTELY no warning this will happen. I was ahead of a truck in I-88 when all of a sudden my vehicle was slowing down and I was not able to accelerate and had to pull off on a unsafe part of the highway!

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-01
- VIN: JN8AS5MT9EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The CVT Transmission in my 2014 Nissan Rogue was replaced by Nissan in 2018 at 30K miles. Now 52K the CVT Transmission has malfunctioned once again. Nissan has a Class Action Lawsuit on this issue. Nissan is refusing to pay to have this CVT replaced even though they know it is a failed and potentially unsafe system. I am now passed the time limits of the original new warranty, but not passed the mileage limits. The vehicle can be available for inspection. The problem began a few months ago when the vehicle stalled (lost all power) at least three times on the freeway and/or side streets. The vehicle totally lost all power. I had to slowly drift to the side of the highway and then the vehicle restarted. On the side street the vehicle stalled, and I put the vehicle in park and then the vehicle started up again. A few weeks ago, the engine light came on which prompted me to take the vehicle to the Nissan dealer for inspection. They could not reproduce the issue but, told me I needed another CVT transmission due to Code P1740.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-01
- VIN: JN8AS5MV6EW
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The Drivetrain has had multiple issues since purchasing this vehicle. I have had to have the axle boot covers replaced multiple times - without any reason to cause the boots to tear or mess up. In addition the axle has had to be replaced multiple times. This is a very costly repair and doesn't last very long before it has to be replaced again. We are safe drivers and have no logical reason for this to occur on it's own. There have been multiple problems with the transmission during this same time. I feel that a recall should be issued for this vehicle and would appreciate any help with this vehicle problem.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-13
- VIN: JN8AS5MT9EW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: about 2 years ago (2021) both me and my wife's my nissan cvt transmission went out and needed repair. In my case the transmission overheated, losing power while driving 80mph almost leaving me and my family stranded on the highway while coming back from trip late at night. Took car to dealership where they diagnosed transmission had overheated. After contacting manufacturer Nissan they offered to repair the transmission. Now today [XXX] I took my car in again because the transmission seems to not switching gears as it should. To which After diagnostic and road tests the dealer advise I needed a new transmission which will cost at minimum $5000! This is the same dealership the transmission was supposedly "repaired" 2 years ago. After further research on my own I found out nissan vehicles has had a history of transmission issues with its cvt transmission. In both instances there could have been an accident. Why weren't nissan owners made aware of their faulty transmissions? Attached is a document I found while doing research showing they were aware of their transmission issues and chose not to make its customers aware. By paying out settlements. The document shows vehicles up to model year 2010. However me and my wife's vehicles was model year 2014. Bought the same time and had transmission issues around the same time! This is not a coincidence. Its a pattern. So I'm sure there are other later model years that may have same issues but Nissan is reluctant to admit that. Something needs to be done! Nissan needs to be held accountable for placing its customer's lives at risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-01
- VIN: JN8AS5MV5EW
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I went to open the driver's side door after unlocking the car and the door handle came off in my hand. As a disabled veteran, I need to have constant access to opening my driver's side door without having to maneuver over the passenger seat or recline the seat back to try and open the door from the driver's side passenger door. My wife saw that other 2014 Nissan Rogues had a recall for the same reason. When I reached out to the dealer I purchased the car from, they said my car wasn't on the recall list and I would have to pay $300 for the part and $180 / hr. for labor to get it fixed. We have been in a heatwave this summer but when this happened, I was parked in the shade of a parking garage. There was no visible tampering around the handle indicating that someone was trying to break in. In addition to the driver's side door handle coming off, my wife noticed another recall related to 2014 Nissan Rogues that has happened with out car. The latch holding the hatch door on the rear of the vehicle has become loose and is easily moved. Though it has not separated from the base, there is the possibility of the latch coming undone and groceries or other items in the trunk area to fly out and cause accidents by drivers dodging items (groceries. school supplies, etc.) that tumble out of the car.

- Summary: When my daughter was driving down the interstate, with a 65 mph speed limit, the car started slowing down. It would not allow her to go any faster than 40 mph. She pulled over to let the engine cool some and continued to have the problem. When we consulted the Nissan dealer, they said it was a “safety mechanism” to keep the car from overheating. I certainly don’t see how it is safe to be forced to drive a speed limit too slow for the interstate. Why is this not recalled? I see there are many more complaints with the same issue.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-23
- VIN: 5N1AT2MT0EC
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The steering is so hard to turn I can barley drive a vehicle I purchased I’ve taking it to be looked at a few times because the code will come on and off but when they run the code it won’t read it so they don’t know how to fix it.

Nissan Consumer Affairs opened a case but will not assist me with the cost of the transmission. I have to pay 5621.00 to have a new transmission installed. Nissan admitted had a faulty part in the 2014-2017 Rogues - the CVT. The transmission was slipping and it could have led to an accident, but did not. The vehicle was inspected by the Nissan dealership and they are installing a new transmission. Is there anything you can do to assist me. Thanks

Hi there! So, we did a lot of research on comparable SUVs and test drove a bunch of them. After careful consideration, we were deciding between the Nissan and the Subaru. Personally, I've been driving the Rouge SV with the tech package for almost 15,000 miles since February 2014 and it's been great! We only had to bring it to the dealer once to reset the computer on the first tank of gas, but other than that, no complaints. I've had great experiences with Nissans in the past, so I'm definitely a fan. :)

We recently upgraded our car to a 2014 Nissan Rogue SV after owning a basic 2010 model. During our search for a new car, we compared it to our previous Kia Sportage, which we really enjoyed. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the highway performance of the Rogue. It accelerates smoothly and quickly, and we never worry about getting up to speed. We have found that we can easily beat almost any car on the road, even without pushing the accelerator too hard. We are not sure what other reviewers have experienced, but we have found that the car shifts seamlessly and we can reach 60 mph in just a few seconds.

Although we experienced an issue with the navigation/entertainment system of our car within just 2 months of purchase, we were able to resolve it within 24 hours. It appeared to be a minor glitch that was quickly resolved. While we did come across a few similar posts, they seem to have disappeared. If anyone else has experienced a similar issue, please do share your thoughts.

I recently traded in my 2011 328xi BMW for the SL Rogue as I needed more space and better mileage. I have been pleasantly surprised by the spacious and comfortable back seats, which have received positive feedback from passengers. The fuel efficiency has also exceeded my expectations, with an average of 27 miles per gallon and up to 33 on the highway. While the acceleration may be a bit slow at the beginning due to the 4-cylinder engine, the 'sport' button provides a noticeable boost. The ride is great and the sound system is even better than my previous BMW. Overall, I believe the SL Rogue offers the best value for a Crossover/SUV, with its attractive appearance and standout features.

I downsized from a 2010 Buick Enclave because I don't need such a big vehicle for my small family. However, I still wanted a comfortable ride in my substitute vehicle. I found that the ride quality of my new Rogue is just as good as the Enclave, despite the Rogue being 1500 lbs lighter. It's also much more fun to drive than the Enclave, which felt like a chore to drive in the city and locally. The Rogue has more technological features, including electronics, trace control, ride control, and engine braking. In terms of ride comfort, it's quiet, smooth, with less wind and tire noise, light steering at low speeds, and precise on the highway. There's very little body roll, so you can drive it like a car, except for the acceleration part. The only downside is the NASA-inspired seats.

Before making a purchase, I highly recommend test driving the vehicle at a speed of 30 to 40 mph in low RPM. If you feel any vibrations, it may be best to reconsider your decision. I want to ensure that you make an informed decision and avoid any potential regrets. It's worth noting that some drivers have reported issues with the CVT shifting and vibrations. While the dealer was unable to fix the issue, they explained that Nissan designed the car this way to improve fuel economy. As someone who previously owned a 2012 Rogue and gave Nissan a second chance with the 2014 Rogue SL AWD, I can say that I have been disappointed with my purchase. I find driving this car frustrating and annoying due to the vibrations. I encourage you to consider all factors before making a decision and not solely rely on the car's appearance. It may be worth exploring other options as well. Thank you for considering my advice.

I purchased my car brand new in 2014 and after 4 years and 64k miles, unfortunately, the transmission failed. When I took it to the dealership, they informed me of two recalls that I was not previously aware of, one for the airbag and one for the transmission. Although the NTSA website only showed the airbag recall, the dealership was able to perform the transmission recall. Unfortunately, this did not fix the problem. However, after filing a complaint with Nissan USA, they were able to cover 90% of the $4600 replacement cost, as the warranty only covered up to 60k miles. Although I was disappointed that the dealership did not provide a loaner car during the major repair, I was grateful that I was only responsible for 10% of the cost, as well as the dealership diagnostic fees and car rental. Despite some issues with rattling and plastic pieces breaking, I am hopeful that the new transmission will last for 200k+ miles like other modern cars. While this is my third Nissan, it may be my last due to these issues. However, I am grateful for the positive experience I had with Nissan USA in resolving the transmission issue. Update 1/5/19 - Edmunds requested an update to my review. Since replacing the transmission, I unfortunately experienced an alternator failure while on vacation, which cost around $900 to repair, as well as the cost of extending our vacation by two days at summer hotel rates in a beach town. However, the car has not broken down in the past 5 months, which is a positive sign. My opinion of Nissan continues to be mixed.

Hi there! I recently purchased a fully loaded 2014 Nissan Rogue with all the options and AWD. Unfortunately, after just one week, I noticed that the paint on the front bumper is starting to come off. I contacted Nissan right away, but I was transferred to someone who wasn't able to help me. They suggested that the damage might have been caused by a bird, but I'm not convinced. I'm disappointed that Nissan won't cover the cost of repairing the damage, especially since I've only had the car for a week.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2014 Nissan Rogue. I purchased it in March of 2017 with around 60k miles on it and have only had it serviced by Nissan since then (except for body work after an accident). Unfortunately, I recently had an issue with my transmission and was surprised to find out that it needed to be replaced at only 118k miles. When I took my car in for an oil change and brake service on July 10th, the report showed that all my fluids were in great condition, including the coolant and auto transmission fluid. However, my car broke down on July 12th and we discovered that the coolant was completely dry and the coolant cap was missing. I was never informed that the coolant cap needed to be ordered and it turns out that Nissan doesn't check the transmission fluid because it is sealed. Despite this, they do recommend changing it every 30 thousand miles. I was disappointed that they never recommended changing the transmission fluid and that I wasn't informed about the coolant cap. However, I understand that high temperatures during the summer months can cause issues with transmissions. I hope that Nissan will address these issues in the future. Thank you for listening to my experience! Is it possible that this year's model is experiencing more issues?

I have had some issues with my recent car purchase, but I am confident that they will be resolved. As a loyal Honda customer, I decided to try a different brand and unfortunately experienced some problems with the infotainment system and rattling in the dash and sunroof. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, the issues persist. However, I am confident that the dealership will find a permanent solution to these problems. Although the blind spot system has some limitations in the rain, I am still satisfied with my purchase overall.
