2021 Nissan Rogue problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.

As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.

First generation (S35; 2007)

The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.

The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common 2021 Nissan Rogue problems

The 2021 Nissan Rogue has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the issues in detail:

  • Safety Features Disabling in Adverse Weather Conditions: Some owners have reported that safety features on their 2021 Nissan Rogue, such as lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring, have disabled themselves when the vehicle is exposed to water, mud, or snow. This issue has been attributed to Nissan developers being "fucking morons" by a Nissan technician, leaving owners without essential safety features in adverse weather conditions.
  • Engine Starting Issues in Cold Climates: Several owners have reported that their 2021 Nissan Rogue has had issues starting in extreme cold temperatures. The engine won't engage, even with the brake pedal firmly pressed, and the vehicle needs to be towed to the dealership for repairs. This issue has been reported to Nissan Canada, and the suggested fix is to replace the computer, although the conclusion is still under review.
  • Major Engine Failure: One owner reported that their 2021 Nissan Rogue suffered catastrophic engine failure only 23 hours after purchase and 170.0 miles driven. Nissan left the owner's elderly parents on the side of the freeway in the middle of nowhere, and it took over 4 hours for them to get assistance. This incident has left the owners terrified of the car and Nissan's response.
  • Malfunctioning Software: One owner reported that their 2021 Nissan Rogue had malfunctioning software that may be taken care of with two recalls. However, the owner was unaware of any recalls on their vehicle.
  • Recalls: The 2021 Nissan Rogue has had at least two recalls, one for a faulty fuel pump and another for a software issue that can cause the engine to stall. These recalls affect over 141,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada.
  • Lack of Reliability: Several owners have reported that their 2021 Nissan Rogue has been in the shop more than half the time since they purchased it, with CVT issues being a significant problem. This lack of reliability has left owners frustrated and disappointed with their new vehicle.
  • Issues with the Infotainment System: Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system on their 2021 Nissan Rogue, including the CVT malfunction light coming on and the autopilot feature not working properly.
  • Poor Interior Quality: Several owners have reported that the interior quality of their 2021 Nissan Rogue is poor, with cheap materials and a lack of durability. This issue has led to a decrease in the overall rating of the vehicle.

In conclusion, the 2021 Nissan Rogue has several common problems that have been reported by owners, including CVT transmission issues, safety features disabling in adverse weather conditions, engine starting issues in cold climates, major engine failure, malfunctioning software, recalls, lack of reliability, issues with the infotainment system, and poor interior quality. These issues have left many owners frustrated and disappointed with their new vehicle.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-19
  • VIN: 5N1AT3BB9MC
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: The assessment is I was simply driving down [XXX] where I live, and my car started this horrible wobbling in the front end and I couldn't control the steering wheel. I was able to safely get the rogue pulled over to the side of the road. I got out upon looking at the car, I couldn't see anything wrong on the outside. But, upon further examination, I got down and laid down and looked under the car, it revealed that the driver's side inner tie rod had snapped in half. This is not normal being my car only has 46k on it. I called my brother in law who is a mechanic and sent him pictures of it and he confirmed it was the tie rod. So I started googling to find a replacement and low and behold, Nissan is under investigation for this problem happening in the 21 Nissan rogues to ike I have. I called suntrup Nissan where I had purchased the car in May and was basically told by the parts dept there, that there was nothing they could do to help me because they wouldn't even be able to get the part for at least two months. I find that ridiculous. Nissan doesn't even manufacture parts for their own vehicles they sell.. my brother in-law searched until he finally found a place in China that makes them for this model and mwe have one ordered 103.00 for the tie rod. I couldn't find where my car was in the recall but I feel so should be because it's the same problem they are under investigation for. I cannot afford to have my car looked at at a dealership, because I already pay 600. Month. For the car and I don't have extra money laying Round. nd the dealer already basically told me don't know what to tell you cause we wouldn't be able to fix it.. so I need to know what do do to at least be reimbursed for the labor I've had to pay someone to look. At this and for the part and then changing it.. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-08
  • VIN: JN8AT3DD5MW
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: On numerous occasions, my roof was leaking right at the A pillar. This water was getting right into the side air bag, as well as where the electronics for speakers are. The vehicle spent almost 13 weeks at the dealership and took lots of trial and error to finally find the issue. It was eventually found to be the service bulletin issue in the roof rail. My concern is silicone sealant could fail, causing this to leak again. Who knows what mold or rust issues may be hiding inside, causing structural concern over time. The fact that these vehicles have this well known issue but have not been recalled yet is concerning.

  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 5N1AT3AB7MC
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I was parked then backed up to proceed forward. There was a pole with a cemented base in the corner left as I accelerated I ran in to this pole. Peripherally I don’t know how I missed the pole however I do take accountability for that. What concerns me is my front collision system and forward emergency braking system failed and did not activate or message me in any way. In the past if I’ve come too close to a vehicle or object in front of me my vehicle lets me know messaging me on my screen, side mirrors and my vehicle has even braked itself. I have become reliant on this system and I no longer feel secure or safe knowing this system intermittently works. The dealership Hart Nissan now Victory Nissan I bought my 2021 Rogue from said that certain areas of the front bumper can miss objects. This is not safe and unacceptable. Additionally it is costing me a $2,000 deductible which is unaffordable on my disability income.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-31
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: This event has happen 5 times in the last 8 months. While driving (under 30 miles per hr.) car suddenly seems to disengage from the engine . I no longer have acceleration and the engines RPMs increase while stepping on the gas. Stepping off the gas petal will lower the RPMs but the car slows down and eventually will stop. If I brake and reset the car in Drive, will reset and begin to accelerate. Bad thing is there is not engine warning lights or indication of when this will happen. Each episode has been when I have not been going over 30 mph luckily. I never know when this will happen, my biggest fear is the engine will disengage, I will be stuck in the middle of the road and someone will not see me and rear-end me. I have contacted the dealer (January 31, 2024) and had the car looked at but because they could not duplicate the event, they gave it back to me. Attached are pics from the service call where after giving the car back to me they left diagnostic gauges, tape and rusty screwdriver in engine. The last time it happened and I took it to the dealer, they say they test drove it but on the Invoice the mileage remained the same from the Mileage in and out. Hmmm...Did they really test drive it?!!! Or are they just sick of me bringing it to them. Bought the 2021 Nissan Rogue on November 21, 2021 and currently (as of 6/3/24) only have 16315 miles. I am afraid, I have bought a Lemon.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

  • VIN: 5N1AT3BA1MC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,WHEELS,LANE DEPARTURE
  • Summary: I have a 2021 Nissan Rogue and have had numerous problems with it since the purchase. My current problem is that the back hatch/trunk is leaking when it rains, water is coming through. The back hatch/trunk will also open and not stay open, it begins to automatically close unless you press the button so it will not close on you. The warning lights have also began coming on again stating that driving assistance is not available. I also lose power to the display screen on the inside and it goes dark. The nissan place where I live is aware and I have an appointment on Tuesday of this month. I have asked them in the past about recalls on my vehicle and they state that my vehicle has no recalls, I have also checked the site and it states my VIN is not included in the recall even though I feel like I have had so many problems with this car. In the past, I have already had to have my alternator replaced and a new battery. This is my first experience owning a Nissan, in the past I had a toyota and in the future I will go back to a toyota. I will not own another Nissan, my experience has not been a good one with this vehicle.

Negative 2021 Nissan Rogue car reviews

Update! Just a friendly reminder to potential buyers to be aware of some issues I've experienced with this car. While I've had some trouble with the battery draining and the AC not being as strong as I'd like, there are still some great features to enjoy. The car has a sleek design and the wireless charger and Apple Car Play are fantastic. The digital display is also beautiful and customizable on the Platinum model. However, I have experienced some safety concerns with the engine malfunction reducing power, which has happened twice now. While the dealership has scanned the code as EGR, I've heard from others that this is a common issue. Overall, I can't fully recommend this car anymore, but if you're still interested, just be aware of these potential issues. On the other hand, the Rouge Platinum has all the safety and comfort features I was looking for and I absolutely love driving it. The only drawbacks are the lack of ventilation in the seats, no height adjustment in the passenger seat, and no auto up and down on the passenger side. These are important factors to consider, but if they don't bother you, then the Rouge Platinum is definitely worth checking out. I've received many compliments on the car and I'm sure you will too!

Hi there! I noticed that your engine is idling like a train and your passenger seat is shaking due to bad idling. It seems like your transmission may need to be rebuilt soon. Additionally, snow is entering your air duct and may be jamming up the filter. This could cause your max speed to become as low as 10 miles an hour. Let's get this sorted out for you!

The 2021 Nissan Rogue SV has had some issues, unfortunately. It has been in the shop three times before even reaching 5,000 miles. There were some recalls, and the air conditioner and radio/screen have also had problems. Additionally, the ride can be quite rough and noisy. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this vehicle to others. I did contact Nissan about these issues, but unfortunately, they were unable to offer any solutions. As a result, I will be trading in my Rogue for a different vehicle, even though it will come at a significant loss.

I recently upgraded from a 2018 Nissan Rogue to the 2021 model. While I have enjoyed owning this vehicle for almost 3 months now, I have experienced some issues with recalls and my engine light being on. Unfortunately, I had to spend three and a half hours in the waiting room to address these issues. To my disappointment, my engine light came back on just three days later. On my way home, I stopped at O'Reillys and was informed that the fuel rail was the cause of the issue. Although this vehicle has come with some flaws, I am hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon.

The cruise feature has not been functioning properly since the beginning. The front panel intermittently goes black for 20-30 minutes before gradually returning to normal. Additionally, the warning sensors have never worked and the lights do not automatically switch from brights to dim.

Positive 2021 Nissan Rogue car reviews

I purchased my 2021 Nissan Rogue in December of 2021 and it has been a great ride so far. The car handles well and has good road manners. The fuel economy is impressive, averaging about 28mpg, even with my lead foot. The interior quality of the SV trim with premium package is really nice, with great looking materials and finishes. The only issue I have noticed is with the shift knob, as the Park button on top is already fading. It's a shame that the vehicle doesn't have wireless apple car play and android auto, but overall it's a great car. I have put almost 7000 miles on it and haven't had any issues, except for some minor transmission/acceleration issues when driving in sport mode. I once had a close call when I ran over a deer doing 75 mph, but the car held up well with no exterior or undercarriage damage. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the Nissan Rogue to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish car.

  3. Claude Okuneva 2024-09-15

I am thrilled with my new car! The interior, performance, and looks of this car all get a 10/10 from me. It's definitely my favorite car I've ever owned so far. Thank you so much, Steven Wilson from the Fontana Nissan dealership, for helping me with my purchase. I couldn't be happier!

  4. Dawson Franecki 2024-08-29

Very comfortable. The Platinum is loaded. Lots of cargo space. Good mileage.

  5. Jocelyn Moore 2024-08-19

So far, I'm really impressed with the vehicle. It's very comfortable inside and has all the tech one could need. The heads up display is fantastic! The engine power is enough for most drivers. The only quirky thing I've noticed is the wireless phone charger. My iPhone 12 Pro Max fits nicely, but it often takes a few tries to get it to connect and charge. I haven't tried a smaller phone yet, but I will. Overall, I'm very happy and impressed with this Rogue!
