2022 Nissan Rogue problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.

As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.

First generation (S35; 2007)

The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.

The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common 2022 Nissan Rogue problems

The 2022 Nissan Rogue has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to in-car electronics, the climate system, and body hardware.

In-car Electronics

The infotainment system, including audio, GPS, and phone functions, has been a significant point of complaint for 2022 Nissan Rogue owners. Some users have reported issues with volume control, which failed to work in certain instances.

Climate System

The climate system in the 2022 Nissan Rogue has also been a source of frustration for some owners. One owner reported that new construction updates were not reflected in the map database around the Toronto area, which affected the performance of the climate system.

Body Hardware

Body hardware issues have also been reported by 2022 Nissan Rogue owners. Some users have experienced noises and leaks, including rattling sounds from the roof under the passenger sun visor.

In addition to these issues, there have been reports of strong gas fumes inside the garage and the car, which some owners find concerning and potentially dangerous.

These problems suggest that the 2022 Nissan Rogue may have some reliability issues, particularly in the areas of in-car electronics, climate system, and body hardware. However, it is important to note that these issues may not affect all 2022 Nissan Rogue vehicles, and some problems may be covered under warranty. Owners are encouraged to consult with their dealerships and Nissan customer service for further information and assistance.

STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-12
  • VIN: 5N1BT3BB5NC
  • Components: STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: Car engine light came on and the vehicle automatically slowed itself down to 20 mph as I was in a 45 mph zone, with multiple traffic behind me. No warning!! A hazard sign lit and the MIL lit up, saying there is an emissions control system malfunction and to immediately take the car to a repair station. NissanConnect also sent me a text at 5:12 Saturday night, all repair stations closed. This was very dangerous and the system should not have taken over complete control of the car at that very instant, leaving me completely unable to control the car. It was out of the blue, and I’m still shaking.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-10
  • VIN: 5N1BT3BAXNC
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: CVT Low Power light came on 9/10/24. I had it at the dealer within 15 mins. On 9/12/24 I was told I need a new engine. The dealer refused to give details to me and extended the warranty on 9/16/24 as to how/what the exact issue was. The extended warranty closed the case because of this. The dealer told me they declined it and refused to repair it. He suggested that since the car is drivable, I could take it. I spoke with the extended warranty myself to see why. They stated they didn't deny it but closed it because the dealer needed to demonstrate what was wrong with the engine. The advisor eventually told me that all 3 cylinders had low compression. I requested they contact the extended warranty company and have them come again and they demonstrate that to the inspector. On 9/23/24 a request was made for another inspector to check my vehicle. 9/27/24 I called the extended warranty company to see if there was a report from the new inspector. They explained that the dealer showed them the low compression and the next step would be to break the engine down to find the source of the problem because it may not need an entire engine. I made it to the dealership a few hours later to extend my rental and get an update from the advisor. He told me the warranty company was still refusing to do the work. He suggested that since the car was drivable, I should take my vehicle. His only suggestion was to drop the oil pan and see if any metal fell out. This would've been $170-$200. I asked if that would resolve the issues with my vehicle. He stated not necessarily. On 9/27/24 around 4 PM, I requested to have my car moved to the front of the dealership because I had a tow truck on the way. He refused to have the vehicle moved. In the close-out ticket, he stated that the warranty company and customer denied repairs. which is false. No lights/messages ever came on. When I'd bring it for a service, I'd explain it was loud and vibrating. They'd always tell me everything was fine.

  • VIN: 5N1BT3CA3NC
  • Components: STRUCTURE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I had to have the bars on top of my vehicle replaced due to a flapping noise. The dealership told me that the bars were broken. After replacing the bars, the roof began to leak and now the liner on the a-pillar has a water stain on it. The radio has static and my phone has little to no service. Due to everything being wet. If the moisture gets on wires if could cause a fire. There’s also strong gas fumes that leak from the tank and inside the cabin smells terrible for several days. I have to ride with the windows down. My dealership knows of this, but tells me the warranty is up. I have 52,000 miles on my vehicle now.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-02
  • VIN: JN8BT3DC7NW
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I purchased my 22 Rogue Feb 22 brand new. First Issue: January 2023(2600 miles), engine oil drain pan had to be replaced. Apparently, it broke during oil change at dealership. I've heard others complain about the same thing. Second issue, 6500 miles (June 2024): *suv begun driving weird. While driving the vehicle jerks, shudders, and acts like it is going to lose power. Losing power / shuddering while driving can be a danger to myself or others driving around me if suv unexpectedly reduces in speed. This happens during both high and low speeds. *Suv also stalls when trying to accelerate from a complete stop. Not sure if this was related to the software update (recall) I done at the dealership June 24, but issue 2 started immediately afterwards. Suv was taken to dealership when I started experiencing issue 2. Dealership had vehicle for 2 weeks, but return vehicle and said nothing was wrong. They said the Nissan Engineer that came out found no issues as well. They did mention the Turbo lagging, but sd that's normal. Fast forward, 6 weeks later (Aug 24), returned suv to dealership because performance is worse AND now engine light is on. Dealership advised light is bcz fuel pump needs to be replaced, but stated different than the current fuel pump recall on some 22 Rogues. How is this possible? Based on my mileage, my car is still nearly brand new. Vehicle is at dealership now pending repairs.

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-10-01
  • VIN: 5N1BT3BA4NC
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The problem started 3 months after purchase. It has a very loud noise that comes from the engine i think. It has been inspected by two different dealerships. Both insisted the noise was normal. After going more than 10 times to the dealership where i purchased my Rogue, i called nissan directly and open an investigation. Nissan sent an engineer and he said that the noise was weird but he didnt know what was going on. He also said that he was going to see if he could get me a discount for a new car. But nissan said no. I have a case number with nissan in case this is needed. This has been an issue that has been going on for two years now. Two years!! Then last month or so the check engine has been turning on and off. Today I went to make the inspection and the Rogue did not pass. And they told me the engine has fuel. After going to the inspection place the suv stopped working. It did not start. Had to call the dealership and I talked to person that has been checking the suv for the last two years and he said to take it to them. And I had to tow my Rogue to the dealership. It has been a very stressful experience and no one seems to care about this issue. My health and my safety is on the line. I don’t know what else to do or who to talk to. I hope you guys help. Thank you.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-14
  • VIN: JN8BT3DD0NW
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: I first experienced an issue with my Rogue in late December 2023 with the heat going out and the fans were producing minimal air through the vents. I brought the car to the dealer January 2nd, 2024. It took a week for Nissan to diagnose the issue as engine related (engine knocking prior to total heat failure, and metal shavings in the oil pan) and another 3 weeks for them to order and install a brand new engine. In May I brought the car back to the dealer because the AC wasn’t working. They fixed that within a week. Didn’t seem to be engine related. Recently I experienced (Friday 6/14/2024) loss of power, whereby my vehicle stalled while driving at 55 mph. No warning lights came on, no alarm bells or signals popped up on my dashboard. As my vehicle began to decline in speed, a note displayed on my dash that stated the engine stalled and pull over safely. I was able to coast the car into a turn lane with my flashers on. The engine then died at full stop. I had to have it towed to the dealer as the vehicle bogged out once it started. Ultimately, it continued to stall out. The dealer notified me today that my engine failed again and that they would have to replace the engine again. I will hear from them again once they determine if they will replace the engine or if they may offer to buy back the car.

The car has some noise issues, including whistling and squeaking, which were confirmed by the dealership and Nissan. The fuel economy is not as advertised, with only 20-22 ml in the city. While the interior design is simple, the useful space has been reduced. The cargo space is slightly smaller than expected. The acceleration could be improved.

I recently purchased a 2022 Nissan Rogue, but unfortunately, I am not completely satisfied with it. The passenger seat is positioned quite high and could be more comfortable. Additionally, the backseating arrangement is not to my liking, as the driver's view is limited when a car seat is placed in the middle. I have also experienced some issues with the car, including a sensor that needs replacing and wind noise on the highway. While the ride is decent, I am not a fan of how the car handles. I must admit that I regret trading in my Hyundai Tucson for this vehicle and am looking forward to trading it in. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this car. I should also mention that there was a recent recall, which was a bit of a hassle to remedy.

I had an issue with my 2022 Rogue when the engine malfunction power reduced signal lights up at 14000 miles. I took it to the dealer under warranty, but they couldn't find anything and charged me $168. Unfortunately, the same issue happened again in the middle of the road at 21000 miles. When I called the dealer, they asked me to tow it in at my expense. However, I turned the car off and back on, and it was back to normal. I took it to the dealer again, but they still couldn't find anything. They informed me that Nissan is aware of the issue, but they don't have a fix yet. They suggested that the fix may be a new engine. I filed a complaint with Nissan for the $168 and requested a vehicle buyback because of the safety issue of having your car reduce speed from 70 on the interstate to twenty with no warning. Unfortunately, Nissan denied both claims. I tried to sell it back to the dealer, but they said they weren't interested. We have owned 6 other Nissans with no issues, but the 3 cylinder engine appears to be problematic. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA for a safety issue, and my next step will be to contact the Better Business Bureau for charging for service while under warranty on a known issue.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan 2022 SV Rogue. Unfortunately, after 4 months, I had to replace the rear sensor. And then, after 8 months, I noticed a water leak coming from the left upper corner of the windshield. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Positive 2022 Nissan Rogue car reviews

Smooth ride, very comfortable seating with lots of room (especially for a leggy 6’3” like myself), and surprisingly responsive in sport mode. The car comes with great bells and whistles such as a heads up display, 360 camera, and adaptive cruise control. Although the infotainment system could be smoother and the dash could be sleeker, overall it was a very luxurious experience for the price of $38K.

Congratulations on your purchase of a used 2022 Rogue SL AWD with 16,000 miles! The exterior color of scarlet ember is stunning and definitely stands out from the crowd of white, black, and silver cars. The cream-colored leather interior looks fantastic and the interior space is impressive. Compared to other small SUVs you test drove, the Rogue is much more comfortable to drive, especially with its turbo engine that provides plenty of pep for passing on the highway. It's great to hear that you haven't experienced any of the electrical issues or gasoline smells that others have reported. The external view cameras, especially the 'Birds Eye' view, are amazing and make parking and navigating tight spaces a breeze. The Bose sound system sounds fantastic and the navigation system works very well, including Apple CarPlay. With gas mileage well into the 30s, even in city driving, you're definitely getting your money's worth. Although you haven't had much opportunity to drive it in snow yet, you're confident that the Rogue's performance in snow and off-road will be impressive based on the videos you've seen online. Overall, it's great to hear that you're enjoying your Rogue and find it to be a terrific small SUV with superior ride, handling, and interior comfort compared to others in its class.

Nothing I don't like. I was thinking about how I would use the 'head's up display' and now I love it. I never realized how often I took my eyes off the road to check my speed! I would highly recommend buying the Platinum just to get this feature!
