2015 Nissan Rogue problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.

As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.

First generation (S35; 2007)

The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.

The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-14
  • VIN: 5N1AT2MV1FC
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: The airbag sensor warning light remains constantly on once the car has been started. Yes the vehicle is available for inspection. I have taken it to the local dealership for repair and after 2 different visits have told me that they don't know exactly what is wrong and that I need to come back and pay another $1600 after the original $600 I already spent to have 2 different parts replaced and they will next replace two others and hope it solves the problem. I do not know if my car is safe and if my airbags will deploy when appropriate and not when it is not appropriate. The main problem is that they don't know why the sensor is constantly on and just keep "Trying" to replace things and hope it is fixed. I do not feel comfortable with hoping they are right when they can't tell me what is wrong. There has been no issues yet but not having your airbag sensor work properly is a significant problem. No police or other agency has looked at the car only the local dealership. I have contacted Nissan but they have not given me any answers except that they have noted my concerns and within my case. They need to be able to tell me if my vehicle is 100% safe to drive. If they can accurately diagnosis the cause, I don't feel they can assure me that everything is okay and safe. My second visit there (6/24/2024) They have replaced the drivers door satelite sensor and found DTC to still be present and will not clear. Now they recommend replacing drivers door harness and airbag control unit. The first visit (5/18/2024) they stated they found DTC 80093 for left hand sensor . they removed the left hand lower b-pillar cover to inspect sensor and wiring was in good condition. Per esm 1st tep is replacing the left had satelite sensor. It has been a month and I still don't know if my car is safe to drive and that the airbags will work, other than the dealership saying it will likely work. But come back and spend $1600 more and hopefully it will work.

POWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
  • VIN: JN8AS5MT7FW
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I have 2015 Nissan Rouge Select for almost 9 year and I haven’t get in any accident with this car . But my air bag light keep turn off twice within a year . Last year it happened on driver side , I replaced it at dealership and the same issue happened just 10 months later . The passenger air bag is off this time . But the dealership said the reason that I can’t accept it. First the mechanic guy told me that the car is old and the way how we drive with the shaking on the road affect airbag wire and sensor . That’s unacceptable because we have an older car than this 2015 Nissan but it never have air bag problem . While we talk with their supervisor to see if there is any recall we miss and what cause the airbag keep going off , he said one thing made me could not believe that the manufacturer would not test the air bag before selling . Is it mean that i bought this Nissan car and I put my self and my family safety under risk while we are on the road ? …...and recently the car transmission failed….

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-29
  • VIN: 5N1AT2MT3FC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Our car has experienced multiple incidents of the interior becoming drenched with water. From thew sunroof, the sides of the vehicle, the floorboards, back AND front. We bring it in to be repaired but then another leak occurs. I am worried about water coming into contact with the many electrical parts of the car that help it operate especially since so much wetness occurs near the front half of the vehicle, near the controls. This last incident, we reached out to Nissan's corporate office and they would not cover the cost of repairs. We are nervous about what might happen and ethically don't feel we can sell the car in this condition.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-15
  • VIN: KNMAT2MT3FP
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: There is a recall for the airbag light coming on the dashboard. Took the car to the dealership to get the car looked at, was informed their is a recall for the airbag light. Was told it was fixed, a week later the light came back on. Went back to dealership, this time they said it would need a new driver side seat and electrical panel replaced to be repaired correctly and to know 100 % the driver side airbag works correctly. Nissan won't cover it because those aren't the current parts to fix it. I don't understand, the dealership tried twice to fix the problem with the standard parts that are allotted in the recall and it didn't work, now it needs to be fixed properly. I have a Nissan with a safety recall issue that Nissan refuses to cover the cost to fix it. It is very unsafe, dangerous and life threatening to have a vehicle with no working driver side airbag. We bought this car for our 16 year old son, only to have a severe safety violation in the car that won't get fix properly by the manufacturer. What if he is in a front on collision and the airbag doesn't work? Heaven forbid he get critically injured or even die from it. What does it take for Nissan to do the right thing and properly fix the recall. In the meantime our son isn't allowed to drive his new car much and not far from the house. How would they feel if it were their teenager in a car with no driver side airbag and the company with a recall refused to fix it correctly. I guess our son's life doesn't matter to anyone but us. All we want is for the recall to be fixed correctly ( which we knew nothing about) which is correctly working airbags. How would you feel? Negative 2015 Nissan Rogue car reviews

  1. Gerardo Wunsch 2025-01-04

During my research for a SUV, I narrowed down my options to the Rouge, Cherokee and the Forester. I decided to go with the Rouge due to its all-around camera system, divide and hide trunk, panoramic sunroof, great mpg and affordable price. I was so excited to get the last one in California with the features I wanted that I drove for 3 hours to get it. However, I noticed that the door sill plate was loose when I was getting in the car. Although the mechanic fixed it, it was just the beginning of a series of issues with the car. The molding on the driver side was loose and had to be replaced, the steering wheel had loose plastic pieces that had to be replaced, and the passenger side window had roller marks on it every time I rolled it up and down. The front seat also needed to be fixed because a spring was popping against the fabric. The stereo navigation system kept freezing up repeatedly and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, when they replaced the stereo, they damaged the trim all around it and by the shifter, which also had to be replaced. Multiple pieces of molding have come off, but I was able to put them back on. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my Rouge. The panoramic sunroof is currently experiencing some issues as it leaks between the two panes of glass onto the metal track that the sunroof rolls back on. I only noticed this during a cool car wash when I was taking pictures as I sat going through the machine. It is unclear how long this has been happening and what other damage it may have caused. When I took it into Nissan, they checked it out and confirmed that it is a faulty seal that needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, during their high-pressure wash, water got on the seats, which made matters worse. On the bright side, the car has great mpg, ranking second or third in the specs of other cars of the same style. However, according to the mpg meter on the car, I don't come anywhere near the stated specs except on long downhill rides. Some people have pointed out that the car is loud when going uphill or pressing hard on the accelerator, but I personally like the throaty sound it makes. However, it can be annoying at other times. If you plan to haul a lot of stuff like friends and camping gear or just have big friends, the car may get sluggish, and the suspension may get low, making the car seem unhappy.

I bought the 2015 Nissan Rogue when it first came out in 2014. At first, it was a great car, but after about a year, I started experiencing a lot of problems. Some of the major issues included the moonroof collapsing while I was driving, which was caused by a manufacturing error. Additionally, the car would turn off while I was driving, causing the steering wheel to lock in place. Despite my complaints to Nissan, they only suggested that I pay off the car and buy a new one. I've spent more money fixing this car than I ever expected to. I'm getting rid of it and will never buy from Nissan again. I don't recommend this car. Over the past two years, I've had to go to the dealership at least once a month to fix little things in the car. If it wasn't for the extended warranty I purchased after realizing the car was problematic, I would have been broke by now.

(Updated after 10 months of ownership) Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2015 Nissan Rogue with the premium package. At first, I was really excited about all the options it had and was looking forward to keeping it for ten years. However, as I started driving it daily, I began to notice some issues that made it less enjoyable to drive. The acceleration was quite loud and the brakes had too much travel, which made it difficult to stop smoothly. Despite these issues, I still enjoyed driving it in the city. However, after 10 months of ownership, I decided to trade it in for another vehicle. Although I did take a loss, I'm now much happier with my new car! I think Nissan should focus more on the car itself rather than just adding tech gadgets. If you're considering this vehicle, I would recommend taking it for a test drive on the highway and paying attention to the brakes and the CVT. Overall, I think this car has potential, but it just wasn't the right fit for me. Thanks for reading!

Hi there! I'm happy to hear that you've had a great experience with your Rogue! It's great to hear that you haven't had any issues with it after 25k miles, just some routine maintenance. I understand that you were deciding between the Rogue and the Mazda CX-5, and ultimately chose the Rogue. While it may not handle like a sports car due to its soft suspension, it still gets great gas mileage, averaging over 27.5 MPG and over 30 on the highway. Thank you for sharing your experience, and if you ever have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out!

Fantastic vehicle! I'm so glad to hear that you had a great 450 mile road trip and averaged 35.6 in eco mode. As a large guy myself, I know how important it is to have a comfortable ride, and it sounds like this vehicle definitely delivers on that front.

  2. Haley Kohler 2025-01-01

I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying your Rogue for a month now! It sounds like you've been having a comfortable ride on the highway, with a quiet cabin and a good sound system. The seats are also very comfortable, which is great to hear, and I appreciate that they're not made of leather. The design of the car is also a nice touch, with chrome door handles, halogen running lights, and a backup camera. It's interesting to hear that you prefer the styling of the Rogue over the Toyota Rav 4. The CVT transmission also sounds like it's been working smoothly for you, with no jerky acceleration. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the Sport and Eco tuning options as well. Overall, it sounds like you're having a very comfortable ride, and the trunk organization is a nice feature too. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Rogue, and I would definitely recommend considering it when comparison shopping.

I purchased my 2015 Nissan Rogue SV brand new, with the CVT and optional SV package, almost seven months ago. I don't drive much, so there are only about 3500 miles on the odometer. While I have mixed feelings about the Rogue's value, I think the Subaru Forester may be a better choice. However, I must say that I am genuinely torn between absolutely loving this SUV and being very disappointed, but only because my gas mileage is mysteriously terrible. Let me explain. Despite my careful driving habits, my gas mileage has been consistently poor. I live in a suburban area, rarely have passengers or cargo in the back, and do virtually zero highway driving. I have been driving for decades, and have a very light foot. I NEVER accelerate or brake quickly, unless forced to. My average trip is about 12 miles without stopping. I use cruise control as often as possible, even though I'm aware most people use it only on the highway. I use it all the time. Ninety percent of the time I drive on roads whose speed limit is either 35 or 40 mph, and typically exceed the limit by four mph. I avoid rush hour and stop-and-go traffic assiduously. In short, I drive EXTREMELY carefully, with only safety being a higher priority than gas mileage. Despite my best efforts, my gas mileage has been consistently poor. Until my most recent gas fill-up, I was averaging about 25 mpg with the Rogue, combined driving, which for me means 95+% careful suburban driving, as described above. On the few occasions when I've gone on a trip, my gas mileage was approximately 26.5 mpg, averaging a steady 60 mph, no stops till the destination, with two passengers and minimal cargo. I've discovered that the best gas mileage seems to be on rare occasions, and only when I'm averaging about 48 mph. It's great to hear that you love everything about your vehicle except for the gas mileage and loud engine/CVT noise when accelerating. I understand that the computer sometimes indicates 35+ mpg, but in reality, it's usually 1.3-17 mpg too optimistic when compared to the actual measured gas mileage. Your most recent fill-up netted only 20.78 mpg, which is truly dismal for this car, based on your driving characteristics. However, I'm sure the gas mileage may possibly improve as the car further breaks in. Other than that, it's very comfortable, getting in/out is easy, and the 360-degree and sky view camera has spoiled you to such an extent that you don't think you would be happy without it in the future. The ride and handling are very good in your opinion, and there's plenty of storage area in the back. Based on principle alone, if your mileage does not improve soon, you will trade the Rogue in, realizing full well that you will take a beating on depreciation. In summary, it's a great small SUV that you would recommend.I've raised my rating to five stars, even with its imperfections. UPDATE, 12/21/16. I received an automated e-mail from Edmunds today asking me to update my review. After owning the car for about 17 months and trading it in just a few days ago, here's my update. Everything in my original review still applies. However, I must admit that the poor gas mileage has been a bit annoying. In the cold winter months, with normal suburban driving with no or very little highway mileage, I average only about 21 mpg, even with a light foot. Although the EPA overall gas mileage is 24 (I believe) when I bought the car, I normally get better than EPA overall gas mileage. There were a few minor problems with the car, such as the blind spot monitor being useless on rainy days, constantly flashing false positive warnings, and the driver's sun visor not staying put in the down position, which was evident on the first day and got worse over time. Additionally, the CVT makes the engine roar and strain. However, I just traded it in on a 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which is frankly a much better vehicle, albeit a bit more expensive.

  4. Marlin Zulauf 2024-10-02

I bought my car brand new in 2015 and added the Family package to get the 3rd row seat. While the extra row is a bit cramped, it's perfect for kids and my 10-year-old loves having her own space. The cargo room is great when you fold the 3rd row seat, and visibility is excellent while driving. The 'Front Zero Gravity Seats' are incredibly comfortable, especially on long rides. I also love the rearview camera and Bluetooth. The only downside is that the engine can be a bit noisy during hard acceleration or when climbing hills, but that's to be expected with the V4 2.5L engine on this SUV. However, I have no trouble passing other cars. :-) On average, I get about 27.5 miles per gallon for city/highway driving. Overall, it's a fantastic SUV for a small family!

I am confident in my 2015 Rogue SV, although I have experienced some issues with the Voice Connect feature. Despite following the pairing instructions and attempting a factory reset, my iPhone 5 with iOS 8.3 occasionally loses pairing with the system. While the dealer was unable to fix the issue when it called a different number than the one displayed, I was able to resolve the issue previously. However, I am currently receiving a 'Connection Unsuccessful' message on my phone, despite following the pairing instructions and attempting a system reset. I have visited the dealer twice, who informed me that the system does not support iOS 8.3.
