The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced in late 2006, the MKX ("X" stands for "crossover") is the first crossover SUV offered by the Lincoln brand. Initially the smallest Lincoln SUV, it has been slotted between the Lincoln Corsair and the Lincoln Aviator. It is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Edge crossover across both generations.

The first-generation MKX was produced from 2007 to 2015, based upon the CD3 platform. The second generation is based on the CD4 platform. Both generations of the MKX were manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT.

As Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names, the MKX adopted the Lincoln Nautilus nameplate as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-01-01
  • VIN: 2lmdu88c99b
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: 8/31/22 While I am driving, at 25 miles per hour in my neighborhood, or 45 mph through town, or 65 mph on the freeway, without any warning there occasionally will be an EXTREMELY LOUD BANG!! I actually duck down and cover my head for fear a huge rock has come through the windshield. Or a double-barreled shotgun was aimed at my car, or a major jetliner had fallen out of the sky and landed on my roof. Only to look up and see no damage whatsoever, but the shrill, high pitched ring piercing my ears. The radio won't respond, the gps won't respond, the heater or AC won't respond. The sound continues for as long as it takes to get to my destination. When I return to my car the next time, EVERYTHING WORKS FINE, and no high pitched ring. I have seen others' notes on this topic say it is the radio/speakers. This BANG occurs for me even when I am NOT using the radio or media. However, my cell phone auto connects each time I turn on the engine. I will today 8/31/22 disconnect my cell phone and see if the bluetooth makes this terrible connection. I see no evidence that anyone has found a repair for this. Also, other notes have stated they think this is related to temperatures above 73 F degrees. I have experienced this BANG at all temperatures. The latest time it occurred while I was in the middle of a left hand turn through a busy intersection with off-work traffic in all lanes, I almost went into the ditch!! No, there are no warning lights or sounds before this happens. No, I have not been able to reproduce this sound at will. YES, THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY PROBLEM. IF THE DRIVER'S HEAD IS DUCKING DOWN DURING THE BANG, WHO'S STEERING THE CAR? Please, someone, is there a fix?

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-01-01
  • VIN: 2LMDU68C79B
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Automatic transmission is slipping badly. Results in temporary loss of power & speed. Taking my foot off the gas pedal, for two-to-three seconds, seems to remedy the situation. It's quite scary losing control of the vehicle during that period. Below, I am identifying an "approximate date"; however, this issue has been ongoing for quite some time - At least one, perhaps two, years. A mechanic's remedy may be checking the transmission fluid, or having the fluid replaced. I ensure I keep the fluid at its' proper level and I'm not replacing the fluid. I don't believe any transmission fluid ever needs draining and replacing - I think that's a scam when it's suggested!

IN MY CASE, WHAT HAPPENED IS THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM HAS FAILED ON MANY OCCASIONS WHILE I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY INSIDE RESULTING IN SEVERAL NEAR REAR END COLLISIONS. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE ON THE 2009 LINCOLN MKX MODEL AS THE ABS COMPONENT IS ON BACKORDER AND A WAIT OF OVER 3 WEEKS IS REQUIRED. THIS IS A MONUMENTAL SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION OPENED IMMEDIATELY AND A RECALL ISSUED ON THESE VEHICLES.

  • Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
  • Park It: 1
  • Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
  • Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Ford Ranger vehicles, 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles, and 2005-2011 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." Additionally, unless included in "Zone A" above, Ford is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Ford Ranger, Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, 2006-2008 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ vehicles, 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles and 2005-2008 Ford Mustang vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, or "Zone B." Any vehicle not included in "Zone A", or "Zone B" is not included in the safety recall. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
  • Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. Ford mailed interim letters informing owners that parts are not yet available on July 15, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S01.

  • Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
  • Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured September 11, 2008, to July 1, 2010, and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 23, 2008, to July 1, 2010, originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Due to corrosion from salt water exposure such as from road salt use, the affected vehicles may leak fuel from the fuel tank seam weld under the tank mounting reinforcement brackets.
  • Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and either clean and treat the fuel tank with a corrosion preventative or replace the tank, free of charge. The recall began on May 10, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S31.

Negative 2009 Lincoln Mkx car reviews

As for the exterior style, the lines are really nice and sharp looking! However, there is some bad news. The exhaust noise is quite unpleasant and sounds like a cow ready to give birth. The ride is smooth on newly paved roads, but at higher speeds, it can get a bit noisy. The MKX could use some fine tuning as there are a few too many squeaks and rattles for a Lincoln. It's a shame because it looks really nice, but it feels like a glorified Ford Edge.

I am disappointed with the design of the 2008 MKX's water pump placement. The required man hours to replace it are excessive, turning a simple fix into a costly project. The quotes for this repair can be as high as $4,000, which is unacceptable. The water pump's location behind the timing chain necessitates an engine drop, which is an inconvenience. This design flaw should be addressed to prevent further inconvenience and expense for customers.

In July 2016, I received a recall notice for my 2008 Lincoln MKX regarding a Takata airbag issue. The recall notice stated that this issue could result in death and/or great bodily harm or serious injury. Despite my efforts to address this issue with my local Lincoln dealership (Island Lincoln) for a year and a half, I was unable to get it resolved. This prompted me to contact Lincoln corporate in Dearborn, Michigan. I wrote to Lincoln's CEO expressing my concern for this recall, the possibility of death or serious harm per the recall notice, my continued email correspondence with my local Lincoln dealership, and seeking some type of assurance regarding this issue. Lincoln responded by advising me not to use the front passenger seat of my vehicle to preclude any issue. However, this is the first time I've been informed not to use the front passenger seat of my own automobile, despite having used it for the past year and a half. In addition, the recall notice says nothing about not using the front passenger seat, and Lincoln's website indicates that the issue of the airbag isn't a safety issue and can be used safely until repaired. So which is it? If my wife and I go out to eat with another couple, does she have to squeeze into the back seat with the other couple for safety reasons, as per Lincoln, and I drive by myself, or can she ride up front in safety according to Lincoln's website? I am concerned about the conflicting information provided by Lincoln. It has been two years since the recall, and I am still waiting for a resolution. Please be aware of this issue and the potential dangers of exploding Takata airbags. Injuries from these airbags can be downright gruesome. For example, police responding to the scene of a minor car accident in California believed the driver had been shot in the face. At another crash site in Georgia, police thought the female driver was a murder victim because of the wounds on her throat. In both cases, the drivers died due to the Takata airbag. The recall notice does not mention anything about not using the front passenger seat, but Lincoln advised me not to use it. Please be cautious. Ford has kindly provided me with a rental vehicle, a 2017 Ford Escape, which I have been using for the past 6 months at no charge. Although the recall notice was issued in July 2016 for my Lincoln MKX, I have been using the rental car for two years now. Ford had me sign an affidavit stating that I would not use my Lincoln MKX or allow anyone else to use it. As a result, my Lincoln MKX has been parked in my condo parking lot for 6 months straight, exposed to harsh salt water environment on the ocean. It is not advisable to let a vehicle sit unused for a long time. Although the Ford Escape is a decent car, it does not compare to the driving experience, comfort, and features of my Lincoln MKX. If I continue to use the rental Ford Escape for another 6 months, considering the trade-in value of my Lincoln MKX, Lincoln should consider placing me in a brand new Lincoln MKC with what they are paying Hertz for the Escape combined with my MKX trade-in value. This would be the right and proper thing to do in terms of customer service and customer satisfaction, not to mention convenience for me. I have to renew the contract with Hertz every month, which can be inconvenient. I should add that Lincoln has been responsive and accommodating, but the truth is that my family and I were put at risk for nothing more than the monetary bottom line. Please Google the phrase 'Takata airbag recall' and read about the severe injuries and deaths. This alone tells the whole story. Lincoln has a unique opportunity to do the right thing in terms of true customer satisfaction. This experience has been quite a headache for me, as the persistent migraine shows no signs of abating. In November 2018, I had to part ways with my Ford Escape rental after using it for 10 months. Unfortunately, my MKX had to sit idle for 10 months due to an agreement I signed with Ford, which prevented me from using it on the beach in the salt air. During this time, the MKX developed several issues, including a malfunctioning AC compressor, a fuel leak, rusted brakes and roof, and mold on the seats and interior door areas. Despite these challenges, I was able to trade in the MKX at Island Lincoln for a new 2019 Lincoln MKC with a warranty. I am quite pleased with the MKC, as it was a great deal and the Black Label covers normal wear items, which is especially important given my location near the ocean with the salt air.

The flashing around the vents melted the first time we turned on the heaters. Additionally, the interior door handles have a thin layer of aluminum foil wrapping that began to peel off during the second year of use, leaving sharp edges that can cut your hands. Unfortunately, the dealer informed us that these were not covered items. It's best to avoid this option if you're looking for a high-quality interior, as the material is cheap plastic painted to resemble real materials and tends to deteriorate quickly.

Positive 2009 Lincoln Mkx car reviews

The MKX is our second Lincoln product and third Ford product. We traded in our 2005 Aviator, which we loved, for the MKX, which we love even more! Ford/Lincoln makes a great product. It's really sad to see all the negative press that our American car manufacturers receive. I, for one, don't get it. We looked around at all the alternatives in the crossover market and found the MKX hard to beat. Now that we have been driving it for two weeks, we are extremely satisfied. The ride is great, the interior is very nice and comfortable, and the sound system and features are fantastic. And what a great sunroof! It's the next best thing to having a convertible. Well done Ford/Lincoln. If you're looking for a new crossover, we highly recommend this one.

MKX quality far exceeds that of the 2004 Saturn VUE I traded in. It's the perfect fit for my requirements; a versatile vehicle that's not too big with just enough extra convenience features to make it comfortable and enjoyable. It's great for country living with city style!

  3. Cooper Lesch 2024-10-05

I'm so glad you chose the MKX! Before making my purchase, I was considering the Nissan Xterra, but my dad suggested I take a look at the Lexus RX350 or Lincoln MKX. After test driving both, I knew the MKX was the perfect fit for me. With 24K mileage, I haven't had any issues except for a minor steering wheel vibration when braking from 70 MPH to 0 MPH at 22K. However, the dealership was able to fix the problem for free during a routine tire rotation. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my MKX purchase!

  4. Gunner Kohler 2024-08-29

My wife and I really like this SUV. It's comfortable, stylish, and fuel-efficient. However, we've had some trouble with the battery dying when we tow it behind our Motorhome according to the instructions. Despite seeking help from the dealers, we haven't found a solution yet. We still enjoy the SUV, but we hope to find a solution to this issue soon.

I recently traded my 05 Expedition 4X4 for the MKX and my family and I absolutely love it! My kids (8 & 3) affectionately refer to it as our new 'Lincoln'. The car has a sleek and stylish design that we can't get enough of. We recently took it on our first overnight trip and the rear seat comfortably held 2 car seats, while the center armrest was perfect for their cups. The front seats are also very comfortable, which is great for my husband and I as we are both quite tall (6'2 and 5'10). In fact, my husband is now considering getting a Lincoln truck!
