2014 Lincoln Mkx problems
The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced in late 2006, the MKX ("X" stands for "crossover") is the first crossover SUV offered by the Lincoln brand. Initially the smallest Lincoln SUV, it has been slotted between the Lincoln Corsair and the Lincoln Aviator. It is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Edge crossover across both generations.
The first-generation MKX was produced from 2007 to 2015, based upon the CD3 platform. The second generation is based on the CD4 platform. Both generations of the MKX were manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT.
As Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names, the MKX adopted the Lincoln Nautilus nameplate as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year.

Common 2014 Lincoln Mkx problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2014 Lincoln MKX, several common problems have been reported:
- Battery Issues: The car's battery is crucial for various functions like starting the vehicle, powering lights, and charging devices. If the battery is weak or dead, it can result in the car not starting or other electrical issues.
- Catalytic Converter Problems: A faulty catalytic converter can lead to failed emissions tests, reduced engine performance, and poor fuel economy. Neglected maintenance is often the cause of catalytic converter issues.
- Loose or Damaged Gas Cap: A common and easily overlooked problem is a loose, damaged, or missing gas cap. This can lead to fuel evaporation and more frequent trips to the pump. Ensuring the gas cap is in good condition is essential for fuel efficiency.
- Spark Plug and Plug Wire Replacement: Worn-out spark plugs or plug wires can result in poor engine performance, reduced power, and difficulties starting the engine. Neglecting these components can lead to more severe issues like damage to the catalytic converter and ignition coils.
- Mass Airflow Sensor Replacement: The mass airflow sensor plays a crucial role in determining the fuel needed for efficient engine operation. Issues with this sensor can cause starting problems, rough idling, and changes in throttle response.
- Oxygen Sensor Replacement: The oxygen sensor measures oxygen levels in the exhaust system. If there is excess oxygen, it can impact fuel efficiency and engine performance. Replacing a faulty oxygen sensor is essential for optimal engine function.
These common problems reported by owners of the 2014 Lincoln MKX highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt attention to any warning signs to ensure the vehicle's reliability and performance.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-02
- VIN: 2LMDJ8JKXEB
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The ABS module has failed. Lincoln doesn't have one and they don't know when the will. Apparently (from what I gather from Lincoln Corporate) there is a plethora of these units that have failed. Why is this not a safety recall?
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-10
- VIN: 2LMDJ6JK2EB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Continious soft brake pedal , with failure of brakes a couple of times nearly causing wreck. Auto inspected by Reineke Ford Findlay, Oh. Needs replacement of ABS brake module - hydrolic and electrical. No warning lights ever. Ford needs to extend the ABS module recall to include additional years, one of those being my 2014 MKX. To add to problem, even if I could afford to fix $2,000.00 repair......parts are on backorder........hence defining what a problem this is! This has been going on since April 2024.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-15
- VIN: 2LMDJ8JK4EB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: The master cylinder for the brakes wen out an I replaced it on may 30th 2023 and today is June 15th and the same problem is happening.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-19
- VIN: 2LMDJ8JK7EB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I was driving and went to apply the brakes and they went almost to the floor, with very little braking ability. Thankfully I was going uphill and the car in front of me was not too close or I would have hit that car. And in a snowstorm to boot! I had no warning lights or any other indication that my brakes were going to suddenly go very soft. I got the car to my mechanic and he stated that the brake booster was leaking and needed to be replaced, and that is what caused the loss of pressure in the braking system. He said that there was a service bulletin #13N02 for that exact same problem for model years up to 2013, but because I had a 2014, the cost of the repair was not covered.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-05
- VIN: 2LMDJ8JK7EB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: In 2021 I took vehicle in for intermittent soft brakes where the pedal would suddenly sink to the floor. Dealer replaced brake booster under warranty. Issue was still intermittent and 2 months into driving after the booster was replaced I suddenly lost all brakes. Took vehicle to dealer and now I am out of warranty and they claim there is a bad Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) for the ABS system. Said there’s nothing they can do and it’s a separate issue even though it’s the same issue they failed to correct previously. The part number is DT4Z-2C215-A. I believe this is a replacement part for the obsolete BT4Z-2C215-A. The dealer is now quoting me $2000 for the fox and said it’s very common issue. Looking at other safety bulletins the year of my vehicle wasn’t included and believe it was either cut off at 2010/2011’s. But if most vehicles still have this issue 2012-2015 then why were they not included in the safety recall. I believe losing brakes warrants a recall especially sudden intermittent loss. Luckily the times I’ve lost my brakes I wasn’t on the freeway or in bumper to bumper traffic where I needed them.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-24
- VIN: 2LMDJ8JK0EB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: on or about dec 24, 2022 while driving my brakes would not engage the pedal went to the floodboard. Mechanic inspection of my vehicle found that the control assy -ABS Hydraulics had failed . This was the 3rd incident the mechanic had found in the last month. Ford motor has acknowledged the problem but no parts are available. Over 900 customers are waiting for parts since the beginning of December 2022 (that we know of). There is no estimate time of when this part will be available and many vehicles to include mine are on the road with improperly working brakes.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-04
- VIN: 2LMDJ8JK7EB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: In 2021 had an issue with brakes failing and becoming unresponsive/difficult to press almost causing a crash. Vehicle was inspected and the dealer replaced the brake booster and a vaccum line. This didn’t fix the issue. Recently had the same problem occur again where the brakes are intermittent and sometimes become soft and sink to the floor while driving. Apparently a bunch of people have been having this issue and the fix for it is to put your vehicle into reverse going 20mph and to slam on the brakes several times until the brakes become firm. Apparently there must be an issue with the ABS/HCU having a valve stick. Have seen Ford and Lincoln recall older cars up to 2010 in the past few years for DOT 3 causing corrosion to cause valve in HCU to stick. Remedy had dealer flush DOT 3 brake fluid and put DOT 4 and change HCU and master cylinder cap to say DOT 4 fluid. No recalls for my 2014 but I believe this is definitely a safety issue that should be addressed. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EqIkUE46Kvk

THE BRAKE SERVICE REPAIR SHOP CALLED AND SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THAT WAS HAPPENING TO SEVERAL OF THE FORD EDGES AND MY LINCOLN MKX IS ON THE SAME MAKE AS THE FORD EDGE. I CALLED LINCOLN GOT A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AND HE SAID IT IS NOT COVERED. YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY SO I ASKED HIM TO CHECK IF THEY HAD HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. HE TOLD ME NO. I JUST LEARNED THIS WEEK FROM A REPAIR SHOP LOCALLY THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTERS WERE ON RECALL AND THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT. I ALSO CALLED LINCOLN AGAIN AND QUESTIONED THEM SHE SAID THEY HAD NO RECORD OF ME CALLING. I TOLD THEM YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE RECORDS BUT I DID MAKE THE CALL AND MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE RECALL LIST. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL FORD VEHICLES AND A BREAK BOOSTER HAS NEVER GONE OUT ON ANY OF MY VEHICLES. THIS IS A BAD MANUFACTURED PRODUCT AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT BROKE. THE REPAIR SHOP I TOOK IT TO SAID YOU CAN NO DRIVE THIS CAR. I RECEIVED A DEFECTIVE PART ON MY CAR AND THEY SHOULD HAVE RECALLED IT AND REPLACED IT BY LINCOLN. THEY ALSO TOLD ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BUT I COULD NOT GET IT TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I HAD NOT BREAKS. THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT WHEN I CALLED LINCOLN THE DAY IT BROKE BUT THEY DIDN'T. I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD REFUND THE EXPENSE FOR THIS REPAIRS

2014 Lincoln Mkx recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2014 Lincoln Mkx.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.
- Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

We have owned three MKXs, the 2007, 2009, and 2013 models. The 2013 model is by far the most luxurious, with upgraded features such as My Lincoln Touch, which is a significant improvement over the first generation in my 2011 Ford Explorer. The 3.7 V6 engine in our AWD model is impressively quick, and the ride is soft and smooth, emphasizing the luxury experience. Compared to our friends' Lexus RX 350 and Cadillac SRX, our MKX is not only quicker and rides better, but it also exudes a more elegant feel!

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you bought the 2013 MKX FWD in 2017 with 31,000 miles on it. Although there were a few electrical bugs with the tailgate, sensors, and key not detected, it's great that they were fixed by putting in a new battery while it was still under warranty. The gas mileage is decent, averaging 22mpg. It's wonderful to hear that this car gets you where you need to go and is comfortable on road trips and driving in town. The size is just right for three kids, two dogs, and you, and it's impressive that you were able to haul a love seat in the back once! The comfortable ride, simple technology, and heated and A/C seats are definitely pros. The only con you mentioned was the lackluster performance in snow, even with brand new tires. Other than that, it's great to hear that your MKX hasn't been overly problematic regarding electronics. It's exciting that it will be paid off next month and with 87,000 miles, you are hopeful to get another 2-3 years out of it before trading in for a newer vehicle. Maybe another MKX but you'll probably go hybrid or electric next. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
-
The vehicle is a great ride, but I would love to have a digital speed indicator.

Your 2013 Lincoln MKX is a classy ride for a classy lady. It rides smoothly and has had only minor problems, as any vehicle would. Keeping up with maintenance makes a difference, and I take care of it as I do myself. I highly recommend this SUV to responsible grown folks.

The MKX is a fantastic luxury car with great pick up and unbeatable comfort. While I have thoroughly enjoyed my 2013 model, I have noticed that the sound system is not up to par with the car's price. Despite mentioning this issue during service appointments, I have been told that the system works fine, but in reality, it sounds tinny and the surround sound is not impressive. Although I have heard that the 2016 model has a new sound system, I have yet to experience it myself.

Lincoln was once a proud brand and builder of significant American luxury cars. Although the brand died altogether more than 20 years ago, it still holds a special place in the hearts of many. However, the MKX may not be the best representation of the brand's legacy. The exterior and interior design may not be to everyone's taste, but it does have some redeeming qualities. While some of the buttons or switches inside may not be logically placed or obvious to use, with a little practice, they can become second nature. The touch screen may require some getting used to, but it does offer a range of features that can enhance the driving experience.

Leasing a car from Lincoln may not be the best option. It's important to note that at the end of your lease, Lincoln may require you to return the car to a Lincoln dealer or to yourself as the lessee. I recently had an experience where I wanted to trade in my leased Lincoln for a Cadillac, but unfortunately, the Cadillac dealership was not able to purchase the car. Although this was a difficult situation, I was able to find a solution that worked for me. If you're considering leasing a car, it's important to do your research and weigh your options carefully.

I purchased a 2013 MKX with only 3,000 miles on it, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with it. Within the first 6 months, the fuel gauge and moon roof stopped working. Additionally, when I fill up the gas tank, the car tends to shudder and shake, and the check oil light pops on, which can be quite inconvenient. The dashboard intermittently stops working, making it difficult to keep track of my control panel and fuel levels. The navigation system also stopped working, and now the rear windows won't roll down, and the brakes are making a horrendous noise. Although the car only has 38,000 miles on it, I have decided to trade it for a Highlander, as Toyota has always been a dependable brand for me. I have had a great experience with them in the past, and I am confident that they will provide me with a reliable vehicle. Thank you for your understanding.

I noticed that there has been a lot of excitement surrounding Ford's comeback, but I personally found the Lincoln MKX to be disappointing in comparison to the Chevy Traverse LTZ. It seems to lack some of the finesse in features, and even the 'Premier' package falls short. The Lincoln is priced higher, but I don't think it's worth it. For example, it doesn't have folding side mirrors, the second seat isn't adjustable, and there's no key memory for seat positions. Additionally, it has less cargo space, and the electric seats lack adjustable features compared to GM. The engine is lackluster, and the gas mileage is poor. There are many other areas where the Lincoln falls short in comparison. However, I understand that everyone has different preferences and priorities when it comes to choosing a vehicle. Personally, I think I'll go back to GM.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2013 MKX that I purchased from Planet Lincoln. While I initially enjoyed the vehicle, I noticed that there was quite a bit of interior noise from the road and surroundings. When I brought this up to the service manager, I was informed that this was normal. I then spoke with the sales associate to express my dissatisfaction with the noise, but unfortunately, I was told that there was nothing that could be done. Overall, I found the vehicle to be quite pricey for the quality that I received.
