2011 Lincoln Mkx problems
The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced in late 2006, the MKX ("X" stands for "crossover") is the first crossover SUV offered by the Lincoln brand. Initially the smallest Lincoln SUV, it has been slotted between the Lincoln Corsair and the Lincoln Aviator. It is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Edge crossover across both generations.
The first-generation MKX was produced from 2007 to 2015, based upon the CD3 platform. The second generation is based on the CD4 platform. Both generations of the MKX were manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT.
As Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names, the MKX adopted the Lincoln Nautilus nameplate as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year.

Common 2011 Lincoln Mkx problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2011 Lincoln MKX, several common problems have been reported:
- Electrical Problems with Door Sensors: Owners frequently reported issues with the door sensors, specifically a persistent "door ajar" warning even when doors were securely closed. This problem affected various vehicle functions, such as preventing doors from locking while driving and keeping interior lights on, leading to potential alarm system triggers.
- Coolant Leaks: Another prevalent issue was coolant leaks in the 2011 MKX. Drivers experienced clicking noises before the vehicle shut down, with some noticing yellow coolant and check engine lights coming on before the car stopped working. In severe cases, smoke was reported coming from the hood due to coolant mixing with oil, resulting in significant engine damage and potential engine replacement costs.
- Throttle Body Problems: The 2011 Lincoln MKX also faced throttle body issues. Some owners complained of total acceleration loss on highways, accompanied by warning lights and symbols on the dashboard. Technicians identified faulty throttle body intake as the cause, leading to engine stalling and sudden jerks while driving.
- Transmission Fluid Leaks: Owners reported transmission fluid leaks in the 2011 MKX, with fluid leaking while driving or when the car was parked. Some users linked these leaks to issues with the PTO unit, suggesting a potential connection between the two problems.
- Airbag System Concerns: The 2011 MKX struggled with airbag system problems, including non-deployment of airbags and issues related to the Takata recall affecting this model year. The Takata recall involved defective airbag inflators that could explode, causing significant injuries when deployed.
These issues highlight the challenges faced by owners of the 2011 Lincoln MKX, ranging from safety concerns related to airbags and throttle body malfunctions to mechanical issues like coolant leaks and transmission fluid leaks. Addressing these problems promptly and with high-quality replacement parts can help prevent costly repairs and ensure the longevity of the vehicle.

SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-12
- VIN: 2lmdj6jk0bb
- Components: SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: I have had fairly issues with overheating and have had several repairs done including: 12/29/2019 - Radiator Fan Assembly and Electric Fan Motor Replacement 10/02/2021 - Replace Thermostat and Gasket & Replace Coolant Recovery Tank 8/9/2022 - Installed Module, Control, Sensors and Fuel Filler (all done with regards to presumably fixing the overheating and RPM fluctuation while overheating) I paid $3K for the August 2022 repairs and they told me they could not replicate the issue but believe that the repairs are related to the problems I am experiencing. I use my car to drive to periodically drive to another town (60 miles away) and then to drive to the airport for work (about 25 miles). After August, I took my car on the 60 mile drive and 30 miles in, the car started overheating. I called the Ford dealership and they told me to check the radiator (it was full and slightly bubbling). The idea of driving a vehicle that is not safe (not going to make it to my destination after repairs intended to do so) is terrible. When I got back home (terrified after having to drive the same car back 60 miles later that evening), I took the car back to the same Ford dealership. After a couple of days, they told me they THINK it is the internal water pump. When I asked them if that would guarantee the fix, they said NO because no codes are showing up and there are no other signs of overheating (so it SHOULD be the internal water pump). This does not seem right to me. The car has electronic sensors everywhere and the dealership put me back on the road with a car that started to overheat within 30 miles.

The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 108,400.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-07-19
- VIN: 2LMDJ6JK3BB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Brake pedal will go all the way to floor. Very soft pedal. For over a year we have talked to the dealers around Home. They all say Ford and Lincoln don’t have a problem. I talked to Lincoln concierge and she said if it became a safety issue to contact a dealer. It was still on the csp recall at the time. But I was told it expired. I paid to get the car worked on and had a pedal again. Now it’s back to the floor. Backing up a lot and putting on brakes doesn’t help this time. Now ford says yes they had a problem but it expired a year ago. I don’t drive this car every day. It now has 70700 miles. It had 52000 when I bought it 3 years ago. But to me brakes are important. I had to stop quickly in traffic and stopped in the intersection and luckily didn’t have an accident. It should be repaired without cost to me. It is a very serious problem. I’m also calling NTSB with this information to see how many crashes that there has been

Once lane decelerates it shut completely down. This could have cost me my life. The vehicle is in the shop took it before and because the light don’t stay on they can’t read it . I seen where there was a recall on the body throttle in 2017 I didn’t own the vehicle then. The light only appeared right before it decelerates this is the second time in 6 months the light never stays on. After the incident on Sat April 23; the light went off n the car drove smoothly but I cannot have this happening unexpectedly because this is too dangerous
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-12
- VIN: 2LMDJ6JK1BB
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: We saw something leaking onto our driveway from inside the garage a couple weeks ago. I verified it was leaking from underneath the engine area of my car but didn't think anything else about it. A week later I went somewhere and was gone about an hour and came back and parked in the garage. I came back into the garage maybe a half hour later and it smelled like gas. I looked and noticed it dripping under the engine area again. I took my car to a shop (QualTech Automotive 620 in Austin, TX) and they called me today and said there was a fuel leak. They think it is by the rollover valve. I have not seen any pictures of this. They stated the only way to fix it is to replace the entire fuel tank. $$$$ There were no check engine lights or any other warnings to notify me of this issue. If I had not parked it in a garage and smelled the fuel smell, I might not have known about this for a while possibly. My SUV has 94,067 miles on it and has not had any collisions or anything like that recently that could have caused this fuel leak.

The car is incredibly quiet, I could even hear a watch ticking while traveling at 120 km/h on the highway. Unlike my experience in a Porsche Cayenne, where I felt beaten up after a 2-hour ride, the MXK is way more comfortable. It has plenty of power and handles very well. The glass roof is a nice touch and the THX stereo is amazing. The leather is beautiful and the interior is very well done, with nothing feeling cheap on this car. Despite some complaints about SYNC/My Touch, I have had none of the issues. It is easy to upgrade by yourself and maybe many of the complaints are on older versions. Both of our Bluetooth phones work perfectly. It's a great machine!

Hey there! Our computer comes with lots of bells and whistles. I would highly recommend considering an extended warranty to cover any potential problems that may arise. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi there! I wanted to share a frustrating experience I had with my car. I accidentally backed into my open garage door and caused $2000 worth of damage because there was no door chime to alert me. It's surprising because every other car I've owned has made a sound when the doors open with the key in the ignition. I think it's a design flaw that could be improved. Thanks for listening!

I was surprised to learn that Ford released a car without actually driving it. It appears that the in-dash system doesn't work properly when you drive the car. Despite the numerous ads promoting the great techy aspects of the Sync system, it seems that they must be using a different system in some test bed, because on real cars it's an exercise in futility and frustration. Talking to it is like talking to a developmentally challenged child, so when it gets something right, my wife and I hi-five. Indexing music is like having a root-canal, and the GPS cuts out and loses track of you on an empty road with clear skies and no trees. Additionally, there are too many irritating popups. I would not recommend this car!

Great car! It's actually my second favorite car I've ever had in my lifetime. I had an excellent experience with the support service department at McDavid dealership. Although I bought it at the end of the model year and think I paid too much, I'm still considering getting another one. The only downside is that the navigation system is a bit complicated.

I recently purchased a 2011 MKX and unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with the syncmyride computer system. I was hoping to find some information on any potential class action lawsuits against Ford and Microsoft for not supporting this system. It's disappointing that in 2018, this is still an issue. If anyone has any information on this topic, please let me know. Thank you!

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2011 Lincoln MKX's. Unfortunately, I had an engine knock in one of them right from the start, and it seems like nobody is willing to help me out. I even set up a web page to try and get some assistance. Additionally, I've noticed that there is quite a bit of cabin noise when driving on the freeway, and the GPS tends to lock up the radio and other features after about 30 minutes of use. Overall, I have to say that this has been the worst car purchase I've ever made.

I'm having trouble with the touch screen not responding to my touch commands. Unfortunately, I accidentally applied too much pressure with one finger and broke the outer plastic. I thought this would be covered under warranty, but the dealer informed me that it wasn't. As a result, I had to use my comprehensive insurance coverage, which cost me $1,900. It was definitely a surprise, as Gomer Pyle, USMC would say!

I would have rated this car a lot better, but unfortunately, I am totally disgusted with the 'My Sync' system. In plain terms, it has not been reliable. I have been back to the dealer 3 times and I am still experiencing issues such as Bluetooth dropping out by itself 4 times, SD failure of the navigation system 3 times, slow response of the system almost always, and voice-activated calls taking 20-30 seconds before it dials the phone, which has happened 15 times. Additionally, the voice activation is inconsistent in understanding the request.
