MY VAN WILL USUALLY HAVE A HIGHER RPM WHEN IT'S RUNNING IN PARK OR WITH FOOT ON BREAK(WAITING AT A RED LIGHT). THEN SUDDENLY THE RPMS DROP AND FLUCTUATE HIGH AND LOW AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. MY TRANSMISSION IS ALSO STARTING TO FAIL BY NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. USUALLY INTO SECOND GEAR. THE INDICATOR LAMP LIGHT FLASHES WITH MEANS ERROR WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THAT IS MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER GETTING WET OR IT IS POWERTRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. - Components: SEATS
- Summary: Ford is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles manufactured from March 24, 2003, through November 7, 2006, equipped with a third row seat and originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. This van is fantastic! It has plenty of zip off the 4.2 L engine, and we can get over 500 miles to a tank (according to the digital readout) with only $40 in the tank. The van has so many features, and even though we haven't figured them all out yet, it's been a fun adventure discovering them. It's also very quiet inside while on the move. We opted out of the DVD system and tow package, but we got everything else. We did have to buy our own center console since ours didn't come with one, but that was a minor inconvenience. Overall, we haven't had any major mechanical problems and we're really happy with our purchase!
-
I traded my 2000 Windstar for a 2004 Freestar and I am so glad I did. I really love this van! It's a pleasure to drive and I'm very happy with its performance. Even my husband is excited to take it on a road trip. I tried the Sienna and Odyssey, but there's no comparison, especially with the sporty exterior. Great job FORD!! If you're in the market for a van, do as the slogan says: 'Have you looked at a FORD lately? Look again!' I'm a satisfied owner and you will be too.
-
I am so glad to hear that you and your children are safe after the accident! It's amazing to hear that the van did its job and kept you all protected. I can understand why you would want to purchase the same van again, as safety is a top priority when it comes to driving with children. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I received a 2004 Ford Freestar as a hand-me-down from my Aunt, who had purchased it brand new from the dealer when it first came out. She took great care of her minivan, with over 51 service history records, and it has never been in an accident. She changed the oil every 3,000 miles and replaced the brake pads every 40,000 miles, with new tires every 60,000 miles. I took it for a test drive on May 29, 2021, and the engine started perfectly, with a nice and smooth ride. I have to admit, the car is still going strong. Although the interior and exterior are a bit worn, I plan to give it a nice facelift. I'm not usually a big fan of American cars, but I'm convinced that if you take good care of your machine, it will last longer and take care of you. I'm hoping to rely on this car for at least another 100,000K (5-7 yrs). I will update if there are any changes in performance.

I'm not a soccer mom, but I have two teens and a big dog. This vehicle is perfect for us, providing comfort, a smooth ride, and plenty of space. While it may not be the fastest car on the road, it can easily cruise up to 70 mph without you even realizing it.

2004 Ford Freestar Problems and Complaints - 2 Issues
Problem with your 2004 Ford Freestar? Our list of 2 known complaints reported by owners can help you fix your 2004 Ford Freestar.
Lester Hermiston 2025-01-07
As a dedicated Ford owner, it is disappointing to experience several issues with our Freestar. Despite being in the shop for over 3 weeks for the brake, ABS, and battery light being on, as well as a leak on the front passenger floor, the issue still persists. Additionally, there seems to be a leak in the back, possibly from the rear door, and the oil is leaking unexpectedly. While we search for a reliable mechanic, other than the dealership where we bought it, we will continue to monitor the situation. Despite these challenges, we remain confident in the quality of Ford vehicles and will continue to consider them in the future.
Jake Kulas 2025-01-04
The car was great, my kids even loved driving it! However, we did experience some issues with the transmission and temp gauge despite our efforts to maintain it. I understand your disappointment.
Sigrid Bins 2024-08-19
Although I was excited to try out the Freestar after trading in my Windstar, I unfortunately experienced some quality issues. I had to return to the dealership 9 times for repairs, including a non-fixable brake squeal that was quite jarring. While Ford has been trying to keep up with competitors like Honda and Toyota, it seems they fell short with the Freestar. Even the rear captain's chairs are showing signs of wear and tear despite minimal use. Despite my experience, I appreciate the opportunity to try out the Freestar and will consider other Ford models in the future.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I've taken a look at your vehicle and I think it's in pretty good shape overall. However, I did notice a few things that could use some attention. For example, the tape cassette had some issues early on and the engine light came on at one point. Additionally, the brakes seem to be a bit low and the buttons for the A/C and rear defroster are a bit small. Finally, I noticed that the green lights can be hard to see when the sun is shining in the vehicle and the front doors don't always shut properly. I hope this information is helpful and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Title says it all - I've had some trouble with my car. New tires at 22,000 miles, water in the transmission at 28,000 miles, and an ignition coil out at 29,500. Unfortunately, water got into the transmission again at 34,850 miles and now it's sitting there until I can come up with $2800. As someone on disability, it might take me 5 years to save up for the repairs. On top of that, it's not great on gas. I just hope I don't have to deal with another Katrina-like situation.
