2001 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, Lincoln marketed the Town Car from 1981 to 2011, with the nameplate previously serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced across three generations for thirty model years, the Town Car was marketed directly against luxury sedans from Cadillac and Chrysler.
Marketed nearly exclusively as a four-door sedan (a two-door sedan was offered for 1981 only), many examples of the Town Car were used for fleet and livery (limousine) service. From 1983 to its 2011 discontinuation, the Town Car was the longest car produced by Ford worldwide, becoming the longest mass-production car sold in North America from 1997 to 2011. While not a direct successor of the Town Car, the Lincoln MKS would become the longest American sedan until 2016 (overtaken by the Cadillac CT6).
From 1980 until 2007, the Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Wixom, Michigan, (Wixom Assembly) alongside the Lincoln Continental, LS, and Mark VI, VII, and VIII. After Wixom's closure, Town Car production moved to Southwold, Ontario, (St. Thomas Assembly) alongside the similar Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The final Lincoln Town Car was produced on August 29, 2011.
Within the Lincoln model line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.

Common 2001 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car, a luxury vehicle produced by Ford's Lincoln brand, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:
- Vehicle Control Issues: Some owners of the 2003 Lincoln Town Car have reported sudden vehicle control problems, where the car may unexpectedly jerk or accelerate, even when the brakes are applied.
- Air Conditioning (A/C) Problems: Owners of the 1996 Lincoln Town Car have reported severe A/C problems, which can lead to total component failure.
- Intake Manifold Issues: The intake manifold is a common problem area for the Lincoln Town Car, particularly in the 2001 model year. Even the intakes with the metal crossover can leak, although they may not leak in the same spot as the plastic intakes.
- Timing Chain Tensioner Problems: The timing chain tensioners in the 1998-2002 Lincoln Town Car have been reported to wear prematurely, which can lead to engine problems. However, this issue may not be noticeable until it causes a problem, and with low mileage, it may not be a concern for several years.
- Catalytic Converter Problems: Some owners of the 2001 Lincoln Town Car have reported issues with the drivers side catalytic converter, where the flange by it gets rusted out. This can be a serious problem, as it can lead to engine failure if not addressed.
These are just a few of the common problems reported by owners of the Lincoln Town Car. If you are considering purchasing a used Lincoln Town Car, it is important to be aware of these potential issues and to have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic before making a purchase.

Why did they stop making Lincoln Town Car?
Although remaining Lincoln's top-selling model, calendar-year sales declined each year for the Town Car between 1986 and 1989. This decline was mostly blamed on its aging design and the increased popularity of the Continental which had been fully redesigned for 1988.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-07-16
- VIN: 1LNHM81W01Y
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: ON JULY 16, 2017, I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 70 EAST, NEAR WASHINGTON, PA. ALL OF A SUDDEN MY 2001 LINCOLN STARTED SHAKING VERY VIOLENTLY. I MANAGED TO PULL INTO A REST STOP A FEW MILES AWAY, AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR PORTION OF MY LINCOLN WAS VERY LOW TO THE GROUND. I MANAGED TO DRIVE INTO WASHINGTON, PA, AND A LOCAL MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE SUSPECTED THAT THE AIR SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR, WHICH CONTROLS THE REAR AIR SUSPENSION BAGS, WAS DEFECTIVE. A FEW WEEKS EARLIER, THE "AIR BAGS" WARNING LIGHT RELATING TO THE REAR AIR SUSPENSION BAGS HAD COME ON; MY MECHANIC CHECKED THEM OUT AND STATED THAT THEY WERE FINE, AS HE HAD REPLACED BOTH OF THEM, IN 2013. HOWEVER, IN RETROSPECT, THE COMPUTER WAS REFERRING TO THE AIR SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR AND PROBABLY TO THE AIR SUSPENSION HEIGHT SENSOR. I HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACE BOTH OF THOSE PARTS. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE LINCOLN PERSONNEL SHOULD HAVE WARNED THE LINCOLN TOWN CAR OWNERS THAT THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM, WHICH IS USED ON THE LINCOLN TOWN CARS, IS PRONE TO FAILURE; AND, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A WARNING BUILT INTO THE COMPUTER TO WARN DRIVERS OF AN IMPENDING LOSS TO THAT SYSTEM. A LIGHT COMING ON JUST STATING "AIR BAGS" IS NOT SUFFICIENT. PRIOR TO THAT PROBLEM, I HAD NO IDEA THAT THERE WAS AN AIR SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR, OR AN AIR SUSPENSION HEIGHT SENSOR TO CONTROL THE REAR AIR SUSPENSION BAGS. SINCE THERE ARE STILL THOUSANDS OF LINCOLN TOWN CARS ON THE ROAD, THE NHTSA SHOULD AT LEAST WARN OWNERS OF THOSE CARS, ABOUT THE POTENTIAL SUSPENSION PROBLEM, WHICH CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING.

I must say, I have had a love affair with the big Lincoln for over 35 years, and this is my first one. I am pleased to say that I am not disappointed in the least. The ride is heavenly, and the handling is unthinkable for a car of this size. The little 4.6-liter engine is remarkably fun to punch when necessary, and the room is more than adequate. The service is free during the entire time of your warranty, making it an awesome vehicle. Just when you think you have found a flaw, you get a solid 20 mpg in the city. On the one trip I took up to the Panhandle of our State of Texas, I was able to get over 25 mpg if I kept my foot out of it. Overall, it's a fantastic car that I would highly recommend!

Hey there! I have a confession to make - I'm the proud owner of a 2001 Cadillac Deville, which has been my dream car since I was six years old. I know several people who drive TCs of all years, and I have to admit, after riding with my friend in his 01 TC, I started to question my die-hard Cadillac fandom. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Cadillacs, but I'm getting tired of the sky-high repair costs, especially since I'm only 17 years old. My friend's TC just keeps going while mine is stuck in the repair shop. It's just not fair, is it?

A huge car that's fun to drive and great for cruising!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with you. I've owned a few different cars over the years, but my current one is my 7th! It's an 01 and I absolutely love it. I've had some bumps in the road with other makes, like a 1949 Baby Lincoln and an 04 that turned out to be a complete dud. But overall, I'm very satisfied with my cars. They're comfortable, reliable, and fun to drive. What more could you ask for? Thanks for listening!

This car became the company plane after 9/11. It has been driven for 60,000 miles, with 95% of those miles being high speed highway miles, and it has performed perfectly. The car is very comfortable, and the fuel mileage is exceptional. We selected this car after renting various makes and models for business trips to determine their comfort and suitability for long business trips. The Town Car beat all the others, and we purchased one. It proved the value of our selection process, as it was every bit as good as we expected.

Our Towncar has been with us for 3 years and it will be my retirement car. Despite our overall satisfaction with the car, we have a few concerns. We believe that a luxury car like the Lincoln should have a softer leather, as the current one is quite hard and uncomfortable on long trips. Additionally, we have noticed that the car has a mushy ride and tends to float on corners, which can be disconcerting. In comparison, my previous Thunderbird with 258K miles had a handling package that made me feel in control of the car. I drive a pickup for 35000 miles a year and feel safer with its handling than the Lincoln's. We have also experienced some intermittent electrical issues. Nonetheless, we still hold the car in high regard.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 3rd TC. I've driven my last two ('84 & '92) for over 150,000 miles each! On highway trips, I get great gas mileage of 27-28MPG, which is fantastic. However, I do miss the power that I get from my '95 Crown Vic with the performance and handling package (3.27 rear end and dual exhaust on the same 4.6 engine-- that I am still driving with 184,000 miles on the original engine and trans!). I have noticed that the steering can be a bit numb on the highway, and the car tends to wander a bit on Michelin Symmetry radials. Personally, I preferred the ride on my '92 TC and my '95 Crown Vic. That being said, the local dealerships have been great at fixing any problems that I've had, and it is a nice looking car. However, I don't think I'll be driving it as long as my other two, or my Ford. Thanks for listening!
