Lincoln Mkx problems

The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced in late 2006, the MKX ("X" stands for "crossover") is the first crossover SUV offered by the Lincoln brand. Initially the smallest Lincoln SUV, it has been slotted between the Lincoln Corsair and the Lincoln Aviator. It is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Edge crossover across both generations.
The first-generation MKX was produced from 2007 to 2015, based upon the CD3 platform. The second generation is based on the CD4 platform. Both generations of the MKX were manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT.
As Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names, the MKX adopted the Lincoln Nautilus nameplate as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year.

- Coolant Leaks: Coolant leaks have been a significant concern for Lincoln MKX owners. This issue causes the system to display a "door ajar" warning even when the doors are securely closed. The warning can affect various vehicle functions, leading to inconvenience and potential safety concerns.
- Headliner Rattling: Some model years of the Lincoln MKX have experienced rattling noises in the interior due to poor fitment of the headliner. This happened On [XXX] and the vehicle is available for inspection here in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. If someone had been exiting the store or walking down the sidewalk they could have been killed. I am suffering with physical and mental problems as a result of this. Police report also states this was definitely a vehicle malfunction. There were no warning signs prior to the incident. - Summary: I am satisfied with the help that the customer service assisted me with and that was getting my service moved up to September 26th from the original date of October 30th. But I am not satisfied with the remedy. I have received several written letters from Lincoln that go into detail of the recall on my car and as well they say and in BIG RED LETTERS ..DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR UNTIL REPAIRS ARE DONE. WELL, I should say that you see my 2010 Lincoln Mkx is my and only vehicle I own I can not just park it up and forget I have a life and a job because of no fault of my own that my one and only car urgently is needing repair to the factory installed air bags. Therefore I ask Lincoln to assist me with a rental until my car had been repaired. I do not feel safe DRIVING MY CAR.Letter's I have on hand from Lincoln plainly stating DO NOT DRIVE. I am upset Lincoln ortrays they care so much to bombard me with all the recall letters and such but pretty much told me NO WE DONT DO RENTAL CARS So what I am to do??? I don't have rental coverage on my insurance. I couldn't afford it. So what choice do I have??? If I do die from their faulty air bags imploding on me atleast make sure my children and grandchildren knew I begged for a rental but Lincoln couldn't back me with that. I guess making luxury car's for so many years has not left them with much profit Seeing as how in a life or death situation brought on by their mistake they leave their customers to chance it because it cost to much for rentals to ensure their customers are kept safe until their car is serviced and safe to drive. They have no compassion for people is how I am feeling about this whole situation. Only covering themselves legally in the cheapest fix possible to avoid legal issues. Guess Lincoln owners are just numbers and dollar signs and not mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, aunt or uncles or grandparents that are loved and would be missed severely in the event of their death by a recalled air bag.

- Summary: Continious soft brake pedal , with failure of brakes a couple of times nearly causing wreck. Auto inspected by Reineke Ford Findlay, Oh. Needs replacement of ABS brake module - hydrolic and electrical. No warning lights ever. Ford needs to extend the ABS module recall to include additional years, one of those being my 2014 MKX. To add to problem, even if I could afford to fix $2,000.00 repair......parts are on backorder........hence defining what a problem this is! This has been going on since April 2024.
Lincoln Mkx 2007
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-11
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-03
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 2LMDU88C67B
- Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My 2007 Lincoln MKX was in Drive with the brake depressed waiting to back up into a traffic lane from an angled parking space in front of a small shop in our historic downtown area. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated forward at a high rate of speed jumping the shallow curb and slamming into the cement foundation of the store. Continuing to depress the brakes made no difference in stopping the jarring unintended forward motion. The speed moving forward was so high that in the 10-12 feet from the curb to the store entrance the impact demolished the entire front of the vehicle even bending the front axels. The airbags did not deploy at all. The witness interviewed, reported loud screeching tires as her back was to the scene during the collision. Local PD, EMS and Fire all responded, with a full police report filed. It was extremely fortunate no person was either on the sidewalk or in the entrance to the storefront. My injuries included severe bruising to the right side of my neck, as well as a hematoma on my right tibia and an oblique fracture to bones in my right foot. There were no passengers in the car with me. The accident, and extreme concern over the malfunction of the vehicle allowing it to take control away from myself as the driver, has been reported to Ford Lincoln and a claim number established. My insurance company took possession of the vehicle from the tow lot after three days after determining it was a total loss. To reiterate, there was no warning at all before the incident. I was simply waiting for traffic to clear, so I could put the vehicle from Drive into Reverse and pull out of the parking space.

- Summary: My brakes have failed on this car three times. I had new front and back brakes installed on [XXX] mileage 44882. Again my brakes failed on [XXX] mileage 47626. A new brake booster was installed along with front brakes. Again on [XXX] brakes failed again and a brake booster and front brakes were installed. Mileage 54924. Today I was driving to my daughters house in Zanesville, Ohio and my brakes failed again. My car is still down in Zanesville because I could not drive it home. The mileage is 57000. Every time this happens I risk an accident. Even though the brake booster is covered by extended warranty, because Lincoln knows about this problem, I still have to pay for brakes and other cost. - Summary: In June 2024, i received a letter dated March of 2024 for a Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02 that ended before i had a chance to take my vehicle into the repair shop to have this item fixed. Actually, i received the letter past the date that it could qualify for the repair as it was 10 years from the original warranty or 150,000 miles. My original warranty start date was December 2013. So they sent the "Customer Satisfaction Program notice 13N02" After the date it could be repaired. I called the dealership anyway, despite their error, to see if they may want to fix this Spongy Break Pedal anyway since they had messed up their mailing date. (Shultz Lincoln in Wexford, PA) They declined and told me they would be happy to look at it for a low fee of $180.00. I told them they should do it for free. I then called Lincoln directly where i spoke with a very nice gentleman. He looked through every possible scenario and decided that i was not able to get it fixed under the program. There really should be some type of law disallowing them to send out post dated letters knowing very well that they were not going to fix it because it was past the date of repair. My brake pedal hits the floor when i try to stop and if i do not push on the pedal hard enough to brake without the booster kicking in, i bump into things. Solution, i have attached a 2 channel dash cam to the vehicle with a live feed posted to a server in order to document my death caused by Lincoln. I have instructed my attorneys to release the feed upon my death and have authorized a law suit in my name. if won, they have been told to distribute the money to all of the homeless people that the Lincoln Executives drive past with their pocket tight and windows up every day on their way to work. This should be a crime. They should fix their safety issues, they should not be allowed to send out notices offering to pay for repairs that they do not plan on repairing. Also, they could spare a dollar for the Homeless

Vehicle year: 2007
I was initially skeptical about purchasing a Lincoln, but after driving this car, my thoughts about the company have completely changed. This is an excellent car. It's fast, handles great, and looks fantastic in the black color I chose. The interior materials are top-notch, and this car easily competes with the RX350 and ML350. Even though I've only had it for about a week, the gas mileage is great. The optional THX surround sound with navigation is worth the splurge, as is the panorama sunroof. Overall, it's a great car.

This Lincoln would have been rated perfectly in every category but I found the controls frustrating. While they look sleek, they aren't very functional. I personally found the slide idea to be less effective than a knob. However, overall it is a fabulous ride!

Vehicle year: 2008
I was looking for a vehicle that could tow up to 3500 pounds without feeling like a noisy or bouncy truck. I'm happy to say that this car is exactly what I was looking for! I've been driving it for over a year now, put 15,600 miles on it, and it has been flawless. To make it even better, I added an aftermarket backup camera and additional matching wood trim to the 'Plain Jane' painted areas around the radio and center console. I really appreciate how quietly and smoothly it accelerates and corners without any leaning. The year-end rebates, bonus cash, and generous dealer discounts made it an irresistible purchase.

I really appreciate this vehicle's solid construction, powerful engine, and intelligent AWD system. Although I bought it pre-owned with over 60,000 miles, I am still in love with the 3.7 V6 and transmission pairing. My mother also has a 2013 model, and we both enjoy driving it very much. The car is comfortable to ride in, and the transmission and 3.7 V6 provide quick acceleration and power when needed. It handles corners and city driving with ease, and it's just the right size. Whenever I have passengers in the back, they always compliment the spaciousness and heated seats. The only issue I have is with the shifter, which sometimes doesn't register when it's in Park and requires a little jiggling of the button. Additionally, after turning a corner, it can be a bit clunky when shifting into 2nd gear. However, my previous car (a Mazda) had the same issue, so I've learned to be gentle with the gas pedal after turning corners.

Vehicle year: 2017
I recently purchased a 2017 Lincoln MKX and it has been an absolute pleasure to drive. The car is equipped with all the latest safety features, including a backup camera, collision alert, and even an automatic 911 call in case of airbag deployment. The push button start and transmission have freed up a lot of space between the front seats, which now includes two convenient 'pass thru' storage bins. The Sync 3 entertainment system is top-notch and can be easily controlled through voice commands, as can the navigation system. I particularly appreciate the radar weather maps, which provide up-to-date information on local weather conditions. Overall, the Lincoln MKX is a joy to drive and incredibly quiet, whether in city traffic or on the open road. The liftgate is also very convenient, with multiple ways to open it, including waving your foot under the bumper. After a year of ownership, I can confidently say that the MKX is a true winner. I have had no issues or problems, and everything works perfectly. I recently took it to the dealership for its annual maintenance service, and everything checked out OK.

There seem to be some issues with the shifting of the gears, but everything else about the car is awesome! As a realtor, I tend to drive slowly at times, and I have noticed a loud popping noise and jerking. It is quite noticeable. I went back to the dealer where I purchased it, and they said it is normal. However, I have never driven a luxury car that does not provide a smooth drive. That is my only concern. The seats are very comfortable, and all the extras that the car has are awesome. If this transmission issue is normal, I may have to reconsider purchasing another Lincoln, as much as I love it.

Hello Vicky, thank you for sharing your experience with us. It's great to hear that you've been a Jeep Grand Cherokee fan for so long! I'm glad to hear that you fell in love with the Lincoln MKX, it's a beautiful car. I understand your concern about the gas mileage, especially since you travel a lot. Have you tried driving more conservatively to see if that improves the mileage? If you have any further concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Best regards, [Your Name]

The vehicle has some great features, such as very comfortable heated and cooled memory front seats that are especially accommodating for my handicapped wife. Additionally, the vehicle has a sleek appearance that often receives compliments from others. The cruise control is also very reliable, keeping you within a few mph of your desired speed whether going up or down grades. The back-up camera is also a helpful feature. However, there are some downsides to the vehicle. The GPS system is not user-friendly and often takes you on routes that are miles out of the way. Additionally, the touch screen has some issues, such as not responding when you try to return to your current location on the route. There are also some expensive quirks, such as the check engine light, which can be costly to fix. Even with the full warranty, the dealership charges $100 to use it, and repairs are often not covered. Furthermore, the vehicle has had some electronic problems, such as the passenger door handle needing to be replaced and the 'Passenger Door Ajar' warning light coming on even when the door is not open. Despite these issues, the vehicle still has some great features that make it a comfortable and enjoyable ride.I understand that this is a common problem. Do you think Lincoln could cover this with a call back? And the list goes on...

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with the MKX. While it may not have been the best fit for me, I have to say that my previous Lincolns have been amazing. I still own my 1998 Mark VIII and it's just as reliable as a new car! Unfortunately, I did have some issues with the MKX's touch screen and software, as well as some costly repairs for the oil pressure and PTU. I've also heard about some water pump problems that can be quite serious. However, I do want to emphasize that these issues are not unique to the MKX and can be found in other all wheel drive Fords. It's always a good idea to do your own research and find the car that's right for you. Thanks for listening!Hi Edmonds, I hope you're doing well. I wanted to give you an update on my situation. Unfortunately, my MKX was totaled on August 31st due to a pickup truck that rammed me from behind while out of control. However, I'm grateful that I didn't have to do any major repairs from 140,000 to 190,000 miles, and only had to replace a few inexpensive sensors and all of the calipers when one of them seized. I was also lucky that the water pump seals never let go. I did want to share a tip with you - to avoid the PTU problem, it's important to drain and refill the gear oil every second or third oil change. It's not an easy task since there's no drain plug, but it can save you a $2,300 repair bill. Unfortunately, there's no fix for the vent problem that causes gear oil to drip onto the exhaust pipe that's under the PTU. On the bright side, I'm now driving a Mercedes Benz E-Class that I absolutely love - it's the best car I've owned in the past 20 years! In fact, I loved it so much that I bought another one for my wife - she has the sedan and I have the Cabriolet. I'm happy to say that I'm done with Ford forever. Take care!

I've owned this car for over 18 months and I'm considering trading it in. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it. At just 5 months, the brakes started making a terrible grinding noise and I had to get the rotors turned. I've since replaced the rotors at 35k miles. On the bright side, the car is great for hauling my kids' hockey equipment. However, after a year, I had to replace the battery due to some odd electrical malfunctions. The wipers still turn on for no reason, even on sunny days at stop lights. Sometimes the radio features don't work properly, displaying two different stations on the dash compared to the instrument cluster screen. The acceleration is sluggish, but the ride is comfortable. Unfortunately, I really dislike the blinker. It's too hard to operate and I worry it will break every time I use it. The all-weather tires are terrible in the snow and rain, and I'm hesitant to spend extra money on winter tires. Additionally, I have one tire that sounds out of round and needs to be replaced, even though it still has half its tread left. The road noise is overwhelming and not what I expected from a The technician advised me not to leave the key fob in the car or near it as it may drain the fob battery by trying to make contact with the computer. They also mentioned that it is difficult to determine the exact cause of the issue. Even with the key in the cup holder, pocket or purse, I still get the 'No Key Detected' message. On a positive note, I purchased winter tires for the car and it made a world of difference. However, at the 70k mile update, I decided to trade it in as the door sensor issue was a common problem with no Ford recall currently available. The dealer mentioned that the part alone costs $180 and the fix could cost up to $500. Although I liked the vehicle, the electrical issues made it unreliable and expensive to repair. I hope the new owner enjoys it and doesn't get stalled somewhere.
