Lincoln Mkx problems

The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced in late 2006, the MKX ("X" stands for "crossover") is the first crossover SUV offered by the Lincoln brand. Initially the smallest Lincoln SUV, it has been slotted between the Lincoln Corsair and the Lincoln Aviator. It is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Edge crossover across both generations.
The first-generation MKX was produced from 2007 to 2015, based upon the CD3 platform. The second generation is based on the CD4 platform. Both generations of the MKX were manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT.
As Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names, the MKX adopted the Lincoln Nautilus nameplate as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year.

Common Lincoln Mkx problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the Lincoln MKX, several common problems have been reported:
- Coolant Leaks: Coolant leaks have been a significant concern for Lincoln MKX owners. Symptoms of this issue include clicking noises before the engine shuts down and the mixing of coolant with oil, causing significant damage.
- Brake Problems: Some models of the Lincoln MKX have been reported to have problematic brake systems. Owners have complained about issues such as difficulty in braking, with the brake pedal going to the floor, and sudden brake failures. These problems pose serious safety risks, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic situations.

This issue causes the system to display a "door ajar" warning even when the doors are securely closed. The warning can affect various vehicle functions, leading to inconvenience and potential safety concerns.
- Headliner Rattling: Some model years of the Lincoln MKX have experienced rattling noises in the interior due to poor fitment of the headliner. This issue can create annoying sounds, affecting the overall driving experience. Repairs may involve re-securing the foam blocks with cable or zip ties to address the rattling noise.
- Electrical Problems: Owners have reported various electrical issues with the Lincoln MKX, including problems with the alternator, starter, battery, ignition system, and other electrical components. These issues can lead to malfunctions in critical vehicle systems, affecting the overall performance and reliability of the car.

This happened On [XXX] and the vehicle is available for inspection here in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. If someone had been exiting the store or walking down the sidewalk they could have been killed. I am suffering with physical and mental problems as a result of this. Police report also states this was definitely a vehicle malfunction. There were no warning signs prior to the incident. - Summary: I am satisfied with the help that the customer service assisted me with and that was getting my service moved up to September 26th from the original date of October 30th. But I am not satisfied with the remedy. I have received several written letters from Lincoln that go into detail of the recall on my car and as well they say and in BIG RED LETTERS ..DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR UNTIL REPAIRS ARE DONE. WELL, I should say that you see my 2010 Lincoln Mkx is my and only vehicle I own I can not just park it up and forget I have a life and a job because of no fault of my own that my one and only car urgently is needing repair to the factory installed air bags. Therefore I ask Lincoln to assist me with a rental until my car had been repaired. I do not feel safe DRIVING MY CAR.Letter's I have on hand from Lincoln plainly stating DO NOT DRIVE. I am upset Lincoln ortrays they care so much to bombard me with all the recall letters and such but pretty much told me NO WE DONT DO RENTAL CARS So what I am to do??? I don't have rental coverage on my insurance. I couldn't afford it. So what choice do I have??? If I do die from their faulty air bags imploding on me atleast make sure my children and grandchildren knew I begged for a rental but Lincoln couldn't back me with that. I guess making luxury car's for so many years has not left them with much profit Seeing as how in a life or death situation brought on by their mistake they leave their customers to chance it because it cost to much for rentals to ensure their customers are kept safe until their car is serviced and safe to drive. They have no compassion for people is how I am feeling about this whole situation. Only covering themselves legally in the cheapest fix possible to avoid legal issues. Guess Lincoln owners are just numbers and dollar signs and not mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, aunt or uncles or grandparents that are loved and would be missed severely in the event of their death by a recalled air bag.

- Summary: Continious soft brake pedal , with failure of brakes a couple of times nearly causing wreck. Auto inspected by Reineke Ford Findlay, Oh. Needs replacement of ABS brake module - hydrolic and electrical. No warning lights ever. Ford needs to extend the ABS module recall to include additional years, one of those being my 2014 MKX. To add to problem, even if I could afford to fix $2,000.00 repair......parts are on backorder........hence defining what a problem this is! This has been going on since April 2024.
Lincoln Mkx 2007
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-11

- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 2LMDU88C67B
- Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My 2007 Lincoln MKX was in Drive with the brake depressed waiting to back up into a traffic lane from an angled parking space in front of a small shop in our historic downtown area. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated forward at a high rate of speed jumping the shallow curb and slamming into the cement foundation of the store. Continuing to depress the brakes made no difference in stopping the jarring unintended forward motion. The speed moving forward was so high that in the 10-12 feet from the curb to the store entrance the impact demolished the entire front of the vehicle even bending the front axels. The airbags did not deploy at all. The witness interviewed, reported loud screeching tires as her back was to the scene during the collision. Local PD, EMS and Fire all responded, with a full police report filed. It was extremely fortunate no person was either on the sidewalk or in the entrance to the storefront. My injuries included severe bruising to the right side of my neck, as well as a hematoma on my right tibia and an oblique fracture to bones in my right foot. There were no passengers in the car with me. The accident, and extreme concern over the malfunction of the vehicle allowing it to take control away from myself as the driver, has been reported to Ford Lincoln and a claim number established. My insurance company took possession of the vehicle from the tow lot after three days after determining it was a total loss. To reiterate, there was no warning at all before the incident. I was simply waiting for traffic to clear, so I could put the vehicle from Drive into Reverse and pull out of the parking space.

- Summary: My brakes have failed on this car three times. I had new front and back brakes installed on [XXX] mileage 44882. Again my brakes failed on [XXX] mileage 47626. A new brake booster was installed along with front brakes. Again on [XXX] brakes failed again and a brake booster and front brakes were installed. Mileage 54924. Today I was driving to my daughters house in Zanesville, Ohio and my brakes failed again. My car is still down in Zanesville because I could not drive it home. The mileage is 57000. Every time this happens I risk an accident. Even though the brake booster is covered by extended warranty, because Lincoln knows about this problem, I still have to pay for brakes and other cost. Isn't there anything that can be done about this? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- Summary: In June 2024, i received a letter dated March of 2024 for a Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02 that ended before i had a chance to take my vehicle into the repair shop to have this item fixed. Actually, i received the letter past the date that it could qualify for the repair as it was 10 years from the original warranty or 150,000 miles. My original warranty start date was December 2013. So they sent the "Customer Satisfaction Program notice 13N02" After the date it could be repaired. I called the dealership anyway, despite their error, to see if they may want to fix this Spongy Break Pedal anyway since they had messed up their mailing date. (Shultz Lincoln in Wexford, PA) They declined and told me they would be happy to look at it for a low fee of $180.00. I told them they should do it for free. I then called Lincoln directly where i spoke with a very nice gentleman. He looked through every possible scenario and decided that i was not able to get it fixed under the program. There really should be some type of law disallowing them to send out post dated letters knowing very well that they were not going to fix it because it was past the date of repair. My brake pedal hits the floor when i try to stop and if i do not push on the pedal hard enough to brake without the booster kicking in, i bump into things. Solution, i have attached a 2 channel dash cam to the vehicle with a live feed posted to a server in order to document my death caused by Lincoln. I have instructed my attorneys to release the feed upon my death and have authorized a law suit in my name. if won, they have been told to distribute the money to all of the homeless people that the Lincoln Executives drive past with their pocket tight and windows up every day on their way to work. This should be a crime. They should fix their safety issues, they should not be allowed to send out notices offering to pay for repairs that they do not plan on repairing. Also, they could spare a dollar for the Homeless

Great car! I've tested several European SUVs, including the Mercedes GLK 350, Audi Q5, Lexus 350, and Acura MDX. While they're all good cars, only the Lincoln has that perfect balance of driving dynamics, luxury, and the best electronics in its class that made me choose this vehicle. The Lincoln Touch and Sync systems are simply the best in the business, and the THX2 system with 14 speakers and subwoofer is absolutely amazing. I believe that European and Japanese SUVs were ahead a few years back, but this Lincoln is clearly leading the pack now.

Just got the 2011 model after driving 48,500 miles on my 2009. I'm happy to report that the new one has more power, is quieter, and has improved technology. I absolutely love the comfortable ride, especially since I drive 600-700 miles per week. The new model also has better materials, which is a nice improvement from the previous model. The new look is also very nice. I've owned a Lexus RX, Highlander, and Grand Cherokee in the past, but the MKX blows them all away. I had no issues with the 2009 in bad weather, so I have no reason to think the 2011 will be any different. I highly recommend it!

I was looking for a vehicle that could tow up to 3500 pounds without feeling like a noisy or bouncy truck. I'm happy to say that this car is exactly what I was looking for! I've been driving it for over a year now, put 15,600 miles on it, and it has been flawless. To make it even better, I added an aftermarket backup camera and additional matching wood trim to the 'Plain Jane' painted areas around the radio and center console. I really appreciate how quietly and smoothly it accelerates and corners without any leaning. The year-end rebates, bonus cash, and generous dealer discounts made it an irresistible purchase.

I absolutely love my dream car! After a year of searching and researching, my husband and I decided to order the MKX through our local dealer. Even after a year and four months, I still adore my car. It handles beautifully, even in the snow and on icy roads. The heated seats are a lifesaver during our harsh midwest winters. I've even had strangers come up to me to compliment the vehicle, and I always respond with rave reviews. I'm currently leasing the car, but I plan on getting a new MKX when my lease is up.

Hello! I'm so glad to hear that you and your family are okay after such a scary accident. It's amazing to hear that your MKX was able to withstand such a severe impact and keep you all safe. The firemen on the scene were right - your car truly saved your lives. It's great to hear that local responders are interested in purchasing the same car for their families. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope you continue to stay safe on the road!

UPDATE: Hello! I wanted to share my experience with my previous vehicle. Unfortunately, it had some mechanical issues and needed a lot of repairs. However, I am happy to say that I have just leased a 2019 Jaguar F Pace S and so far, it's been great! It comes with a 45 year/50,000 bumper to bumper warranty which gives me peace of mind. I also recently picked up my 2016 MKX Reserve and while it had some issues, it was still a pleasure to drive. The optional massaging seats were definitely worth it and the Revel sound system was phenomenal. I did have some trouble with the Sync 3 system, but overall, it was a good car. Thank you for listening to my experience and I hope this helps anyone looking for a new car.

I really like the car, but unfortunately I've noticed a smell of fumes inside it. The smell is particularly strong when I downshift to enter the highway, and it's so bad that I have to open the window. I took it to the dealer in Florida, but even though they said they fixed it, the problem still persists. I decided to call Lincoln and make an appointment with my dealer in upstate NY. I'm worried about the amount of exhaust that the car is giving out, especially when accelerating normally, and I'm concerned about my grandkids' safety. I hope that Lincoln has the necessary equipment to measure the amount of exhaust inside the car, as this may be a defect in the MKX. Unfortunately, the dealer in Florida didn't have another MKX to test. On the bright side, the car looks great, rides great, and handles great. It has all the options, including great seat messaging and very good safety features. However, the gas mileage is only 24 on the highway and 12 to 13 in traffic. Despite having only 12k miles, the car has already had one recall. I've brought it to the dealer six times now because of the odor in the car, but they still can't find the problem. I even have a case number and I'm waiting for a buyback. Lincoln kept the car for a few days and the smell was corrected for two months, but after making a trip to Florida, the smell started again. It's now May and I'm bringing it to the dealer again to check it out. The car has 25k miles and still has a problem with exhaust. I've even hired a lemon law lawyer to help me with this issue, as the dealer has tried to fix it three times and couldn't. I'm now waiting for a lemon law decision.

I bought this vehicle brand new and fully loaded. Unfortunately, I had some issues with it early on. At 5K miles, the thermostat had to be changed due to a short that prevented the vehicle from starting. Then, at 10K miles, the power steering went out and I had to take it to the Lincoln dealership for repairs. They had to fix the power steering over 6 times, but unfortunately, they would not classify the vehicle as a LEMON. My car is currently in the shop again for the same issue and they have had it for over 2 weeks. I was just informed that I will have to live with a slight whining noise in the vehicle, which is disappointing. I feel that Lincoln should stand behind their products better. **Update: Since my last post, my car has been in the shop 5 more times for power steering issues. Lincoln sent an engineer to the dealership after having my car for over 3 1/2 weeks, only to be told that the noise is something I will have to live with as they have exhausted all avenues. Unfortunately, the mechanic didn't tighten the bolts on the tire rod, which could have been dangerous. There were no apologies from Lincoln. Now, there is another noise that sounds like the axle is going to split apart. The dealership tells me it's a loose pan underneath, but that wasn't the issue. The car is quite loud. I have been so frustrated with going back and forth with the dealership that I was forced to purchase a luxury car from Audi.

I have unfortunately experienced several issues with my car, including the right front running light going out within two months of owning it. Despite taking it to the dealer six times, the issue has not been resolved. Additionally, I have encountered various electrical problems such as the odometer disappearing, the radio turning on by itself, and the back windshield wiper turning on without my input. Although I have provided proof of these issues, Ford has been unable to duplicate them. As a result, I have had to take legal action and file a Lemon Law Suit against Ford. Despite my disappointment with Ford, I had a positive experience with my previous Lexus RX330 which never gave me any problems in the 12 years I owned it!

The car seems to have some issues, particularly with the locking mechanism, which I believe is part of the first recall. While the technology of the car is impressive, there are some problems with the Bluetooth syncing, navigation, and rear camera. Lincoln's temporary fix of disconnecting the car battery for ten minutes to reset the system has only lasted about 5 days at most, and the promised permanent fix has been delayed twice now. Unfortunately, customer service at both Ford and the dealership has been lacking. Overall, it's been a frustrating experience.
