The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced in late 2006, the MKX ("X" stands for "crossover") is the first crossover SUV offered by the Lincoln brand. Initially the smallest Lincoln SUV, it has been slotted between the Lincoln Corsair and the Lincoln Aviator. It is the Lincoln counterpart of the Ford Edge crossover across both generations.

The first-generation MKX was produced from 2007 to 2015, based upon the CD3 platform. The second generation is based on the CD4 platform. Both generations of the MKX were manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT.

As Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names, the MKX adopted the Lincoln Nautilus nameplate as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year.

Common Lincoln Mkx problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Lincoln MKX, several common problems have been reported:

  • Coolant Leaks: Coolant leaks have been a significant concern for Lincoln MKX owners. These leaks can lead to engine damage, potentially requiring expensive repairs or even a complete engine replacement. Symptoms of this issue include clicking noises before the engine shuts down and the mixing of coolant with oil, causing significant damage.
  • Brake Problems: Some models of the Lincoln MKX have been reported to have problematic brake systems. Owners have complained about issues such as difficulty in braking, with the brake pedal going to the floor, and sudden brake failures. These problems pose serious safety risks, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic situations.
  • Faulty Door Sensors: Another common problem reported by Lincoln MKX owners is faulty door sensors. This issue causes the system to display a "door ajar" warning even when the doors are securely closed. The warning can affect various vehicle functions, leading to inconvenience and potential safety concerns.
  • Headliner Rattling: Some model years of the Lincoln MKX have experienced rattling noises in the interior due to poor fitment of the headliner. This issue can create annoying sounds, affecting the overall driving experience. Repairs may involve re-securing the foam blocks with cable or zip ties to address the rattling noise.
  • Electrical Problems: Owners have reported various electrical issues with the Lincoln MKX, including problems with the alternator, starter, battery, ignition system, and other electrical components. These issues can lead to malfunctions in critical vehicle systems, affecting the overall performance and reliability of the car.

These common problems with the Lincoln MKX highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt repairs to address issues before they escalate and lead to costly repairs or safety hazards.

This happened On [XXX] and the vehicle is available for inspection here in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. If someone had been exiting the store or walking down the sidewalk they could have been killed. I am suffering with physical and mental problems as a result of this. Police report also states this was definitely a vehicle malfunction. There were no warning signs prior to the incident. Claim has been filed with the Office of General Council at Lincoln, but remains unresolved to date. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-12

  • Summary: I am satisfied with the help that the customer service assisted me with and that was getting my service moved up to September 26th from the original date of October 30th. But I am not satisfied with the remedy. I have received several written letters from Lincoln that go into detail of the recall on my car and as well they say and in BIG RED LETTERS ..DO NOT DRIVE YOUR CAR UNTIL REPAIRS ARE DONE. WELL, I should say that you see my 2010 Lincoln Mkx is my and only vehicle I own I can not just park it up and forget I have a life and a job because of no fault of my own that my one and only car urgently is needing repair to the factory installed air bags. Therefore I ask Lincoln to assist me with a rental until my car had been repaired. I do not feel safe DRIVING MY CAR.Letter's I have on hand from Lincoln plainly stating DO NOT DRIVE. I am upset Lincoln ortrays they care so much to bombard me with all the recall letters and such but pretty much told me NO WE DONT DO RENTAL CARS So what I am to do??? I don't have rental coverage on my insurance. I couldn't afford it. So what choice do I have??? If I do die from their faulty air bags imploding on me atleast make sure my children and grandchildren knew I begged for a rental but Lincoln couldn't back me with that. I guess making luxury car's for so many years has not left them with much profit Seeing as how in a life or death situation brought on by their mistake they leave their customers to chance it because it cost to much for rentals to ensure their customers are kept safe until their car is serviced and safe to drive. They have no compassion for people is how I am feeling about this whole situation. Only covering themselves legally in the cheapest fix possible to avoid legal issues. Guess Lincoln owners are just numbers and dollar signs and not mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, aunt or uncles or grandparents that are loved and would be missed severely in the event of their death by a recalled air bag.

  • Summary: Continious soft brake pedal , with failure of brakes a couple of times nearly causing wreck. Auto inspected by Reineke Ford Findlay, Oh. Needs replacement of ABS brake module - hydrolic and electrical. No warning lights ever. Ford needs to extend the ABS module recall to include additional years, one of those being my 2014 MKX. To add to problem, even if I could afford to fix $2,000.00 repair......parts are on backorder........hence defining what a problem this is! This has been going on since April 2024.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-11
  • Date Complaint: 2024-09-03
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 2LMDU88C67B
  • Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: My 2007 Lincoln MKX was in Drive with the brake depressed waiting to back up into a traffic lane from an angled parking space in front of a small shop in our historic downtown area. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated forward at a high rate of speed jumping the shallow curb and slamming into the cement foundation of the store. Continuing to depress the brakes made no difference in stopping the jarring unintended forward motion. The speed moving forward was so high that in the 10-12 feet from the curb to the store entrance the impact demolished the entire front of the vehicle even bending the front axels. The airbags did not deploy at all. The witness interviewed, reported loud screeching tires as her back was to the scene during the collision. Local PD, EMS and Fire all responded, with a full police report filed. It was extremely fortunate no person was either on the sidewalk or in the entrance to the storefront. My injuries included severe bruising to the right side of my neck, as well as a hematoma on my right tibia and an oblique fracture to bones in my right foot. There were no passengers in the car with me. The accident, and extreme concern over the malfunction of the vehicle allowing it to take control away from myself as the driver, has been reported to Ford Lincoln and a claim number established. My insurance company took possession of the vehicle from the tow lot after three days after determining it was a total loss. To reiterate, there was no warning at all before the incident. I was simply waiting for traffic to clear, so I could put the vehicle from Drive into Reverse and pull out of the parking space.

  • Summary: My brakes have failed on this car three times. I had new front and back brakes installed on [XXX] mileage 44882. Again my brakes failed on [XXX] mileage 47626. A new brake booster was installed along with front brakes. Again on [XXX] brakes failed again and a brake booster and front brakes were installed. Mileage 54924. Today I was driving to my daughters house in Zanesville, Ohio and my brakes failed again. My car is still down in Zanesville because I could not drive it home. The mileage is 57000. Every time this happens I risk an accident. Even though the brake booster is covered by extended warranty, because Lincoln knows about this problem, I still have to pay for brakes and other cost. Isn't there anything that can be done about this? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • Summary: In June 2024, i received a letter dated March of 2024 for a Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02 that ended before i had a chance to take my vehicle into the repair shop to have this item fixed. Actually, i received the letter past the date that it could qualify for the repair as it was 10 years from the original warranty or 150,000 miles. My original warranty start date was December 2013. So they sent the "Customer Satisfaction Program notice 13N02" After the date it could be repaired. I called the dealership anyway, despite their error, to see if they may want to fix this Spongy Break Pedal anyway since they had messed up their mailing date. (Shultz Lincoln in Wexford, PA) They declined and told me they would be happy to look at it for a low fee of $180.00. I told them they should do it for free. I then called Lincoln directly where i spoke with a very nice gentleman. He looked through every possible scenario and decided that i was not able to get it fixed under the program. There really should be some type of law disallowing them to send out post dated letters knowing very well that they were not going to fix it because it was past the date of repair. My brake pedal hits the floor when i try to stop and if i do not push on the pedal hard enough to brake without the booster kicking in, i bump into things. Solution, i have attached a 2 channel dash cam to the vehicle with a live feed posted to a server in order to document my death caused by Lincoln. I have instructed my attorneys to release the feed upon my death and have authorized a law suit in my name. if won, they have been told to distribute the money to all of the homeless people that the Lincoln Executives drive past with their pocket tight and windows up every day on their way to work. This should be a crime. They should fix their safety issues, they should not be allowed to send out notices offering to pay for repairs that they do not plan on repairing. Also, they could spare a dollar for the Homeless

Latest negative Lincoln Mkx car reviews

  1. Tillman Collins 2025-01-02

    Vehicle year: 2008

I bought a used vehicle that I thought was beautiful. However, when I got it home and started to give it a wax job, I discovered that rust was eating it up. I took it back to the dealership for help, but unfortunately, they were unable to assist me and suggested I contact Lincoln. After reaching out to Lincoln, I was disappointed to find that they were also unable to help me. About a year later, I received safety recalls for rust corrosion due to the 2008 model not being sealed properly. I highly recommend checking your gas tank straps and cooling system for excessive corrosion. When I took it for inspection, I was shocked to find that even the covering on my shocks had been eaten away by rust and the entire frame was extensively rusted. Although Lincoln stated that there were no safety issues, I was extremely disappointed to find that my vehicle had become nothing but a money pit. I hope that others can learn from my experience and be cautious when purchasing a FORD product.

Leasing a car from Lincoln may not be the best option. It's important to note that at the end of your lease, Lincoln may require you to return the car to a Lincoln dealer or to yourself as the lessee. I recently had an experience where I wanted to trade in my leased Lincoln for a Cadillac, but unfortunately, the dealership was not able to purchase the car due to these restrictions. Although this resulted in some inconvenience, I was able to find a solution that worked for me. If you're considering leasing from Lincoln, it's important to be aware of these limitations and plan accordingly.

Hello! I am currently leasing a 2016 MKX, which is quite a change from my last two MKZ's. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with my MKX that have been quite frustrating. Despite having most of the available options, I have had quirky and annoying problems with the car. For example, while driving at night, the 'Service Headlamps Light' came on and then they quit working minutes later. I drove home with only the parking lamps on. The dealer reset the computer and they worked again, but since then that warning light has come on briefly and then gone back off. Additionally, the carpeting has pulled away from the sills on two of the four doors, and I had a very annoying rattle in the all glass moon roof. It took the dealer a week to pinpoint and repair. I have also experienced exhaust fumes in the cabin when I need to accelerate quickly, and the hood flexes while driving on the highway, which is quite concerning. The dealer has assured me that the hood will not come open, but I am not convinced. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that the 2018 MKX has addressed these concerns before production. Thank you for listening to my experience!

I'm driving a 1 owner 2008 MKX that has been well-maintained and has clocked an impressive 245,000 miles! It has been serviced regularly at the Ford/Lincoln dealership by certified mechanics, which I believe is the reason why it still looks and runs like new. The vehicle had a minor airbag recall issue, but it was resolved promptly. At 194K, there was a transmission problem, but it was fixed for $801 and has been running smoothly ever since. The cooling fans did fail at 223K, but it was promptly taken care of. The oil is changed every 5k miles, and the tires are rotated regularly. The original Michelin tires lasted for 60k miles, and then I switched to Cooper tires. The heated and cooled seats still work perfectly, and there have been no issues with the water pump or heater core. The gas mileage is fair, up to about 27-28 on the highway. I am very satisfied with this vehicle and would definitely buy one again. At 250,000 miles, I plan to have the transmission serviced. This Lincoln MKX has been serviced at the local Ford Lincoln dealership since day one, and that's the biggest reason why it's still running strong! At 253,642 miles, a code came up on the screen and the motor was missing and running rough. The tech at Rick Ball Ford/Lincoln found a cracked spark plug and burnt boot, so both were replaced, and now it's running like new again! It still has the same coil packs, and I don't see any reason to change them. At 255,000 miles, the oil was changed with tire rotation, and at that time, I replaced the original headlamps with all LED in the headlights and fog lamps. I also had the front of the headlamps polished by a professional, and it made a huge difference in night driving! Yet this Lincoln keeps running! As of now, this 2008 Lincoln MKX has 263,000 miles on it, and it still runs great! It has been serviced every 5,000 miles with tire rotation, and I keep up on all service that Ford/Lincoln requires. I see people who complain that the water pump went out in their Lincoln MKX, but the Lincoln MKX I drive has the original water pump. I change the antifreeze and flush the radiator when it's required, and so far, no problems with the water pump! Thanks to the great service department at Rick Ball Ford/Lincoln, as they have a great staff to take care of your service on your Ford/Lincoln. Update 01/08/23: This Lincoln MKX has 270,000 miles on it now, and still no major problems! This vehicle still has the original water pump too. I expect it to get to 300k with little or no problem. Remember, service is the most important thing to do! Update 8/30/23: The Lincoln has 280,000 miles on it as of 8/30/23, and it's still running great! I have no complaints about this vehicle. It's still running strong, and I don't see it slowing down. The motor has never been touched, and it still has the original coil packs. But, as I have said, service is the most important thing to do to a vehicle.

I recently switched from a 4x4 Ltd. Explorer to the MKX and I must say, it pulls my 17' Fishing Boat much better than the Explorer did. I absolutely adore the 'My Lincoln' technology and the convenience of being able to control most functions directly from the steering wheel. After driving 2,400 miles, the computer and math checks indicate an average of 22.1 mpg for my city/highway use, which is fantastic. The 3.7 Engine handles the western MI hills with ease, without the need for downshifting in most cases. I have personally hand waxed the car and found no body defects. Overall, it's a great car!

I recently traded my ML350 Benz for this little jewel in April. I drove it off the showroom floor with all the options loaded. At first, I found it difficult to drive and understand how everything worked. I had to pull over and read the owner's manual to learn how to turn on certain options, which was frustrating. However, after driving it for 6000 miles, I have fallen in love with this car. It has a learning curve, but with some patience and teaching, it's a great, fun car that turns heads and is a real treat to drive. You will definitely learn to love it!

I can tell you that I absolutely love my 2010 Lincoln MKX! It makes me feel so safe and comfortable, and the hands-free and GPS features have been a huge help. It's especially great on long trips. Just so you know, it's definitely not for sale - this car is a keeper!

I've had my MKX for 1.25 years now and I can't say enough great things about it! The creme brulee color and light tan interior still look brand new. I absolutely love all the features, especially the sync which makes me feel a bit lazy sometimes. I've had numerous people try to buy it from me, which is a testament to how amazing this car is. It's the most luxurious, sexy, and fun car I've ever owned. Even my 12-year-old and his friends love the rockin' stereo system, which is hard to believe is stock. With each oil change, my gas mileage continues to improve and I'm now getting 24 hwy and 10 city. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone!
