2009 Pontiac G6 problems
The Pontiac G6 is a mid-size car that was produced by General Motors under the Pontiac brand. It was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year to replace the Grand Am.
The G6 shared the GM Epsilon platform with the Chevrolet Malibu, Saab 9-3 and other General Motors vehicles. Features included a remote starting system (standard on GT, optional on base model), traction control/ABS, electronic stability control, automatic headlights as well as a panoramic sunroof option. A retractable hardtop convertible was offered for model years 2006-2009. Production ended in 2010 with the discontinuation of the Pontiac line.
With the G6, Pontiac introduced a two-digit naming convention, with the Pontiac G8 a class above the G6 and the Pontiac G5 a class below. In the case of the G6, the nameplate designated it as the sixth generation of its predecessor, the Pontiac Grand Am.

- Summary: Well, we purchased a 2009 Pontiac G6 in November of 2021. We have been having problems with our light staying on, we were pull over a couple nights ago due to our lights not working. Also, our G6 pulls to the right and tweeters are the only speakers that work. Sometimes the driver door speaker will come on but that's in a blue moon. My step dad looked at my lights and noticed our wires were burnt and so was the connection piece. My fiancé informed me the other day that when he was fueling up, that he had to turn the car off because he heard a weird noise coming from the inside of the gas tank. Also, when we purchased the vehicle the battery was put in wrong and rubbing up against our hood [XXX] near caught our car on fire. Sometimes the car with slowing idle and won't go until I have to put my foot all the way down to the floor. Also, I had all 4 brand new tires put on it and the tire light is still on. Coat me $576.67 for tires because I got the weather, puncture proof and warranty! We have told South Shields Auto Credit in OKC, Ok I believe his name is [XXX] about the lights and he told his actual words "THAT SOUNDS LIKE WIRING PROBLEM AND WE DON'T DEAL WITH WIRING PROBLEMS"!! We took it in to get the light fixed and the lights were working for about 2 days and they quit working again. I Doordash for a living, other than I am a full time student and I have to have my lights to see at night. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
2009 Pontiac G6 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2009 Pontiac G6.
- Manufacturer: Dorman Products, Inc.
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain replacement intermediate steering shafts sold under the Dorman, OE Solutions, and Solutions brand names, part numbers 425-167, 2425167, and 7-3074, for installation on 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6, and 2007-2009 Saturn Aura vehicles. The affected steering shafts may have a yoke that inadequately supports the u-joint bearing resulting in a premature failure.
- Consequence: A joint bearing that fails prematurely may cause separation of the u-joint resulting in a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dorman will notify owners, and dealers will refund the purchase price or replace the steering shafts, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
- Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2006 Malibu Maxx, 2009-2010 HHR (non-turbo), 2010 Cobalt, 2008-2009 Saturn Aura and 2004-2007 Ion, and 2005-2009 Pontiac G6. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
- Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will perform one of four bulletins. Parts are not currently available. GM expects to send an interim notification around May 28, 2014. When parts are available, owners will be mailed a second letter to come in to have the applicable bulletin applied. Bulletin 14115 covers model year 2004-2007 Saturn Ion, 2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts. Dealers will replace the EPS motor. Bulletin 14116 covers model year 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from March 1, 2008, through June 27, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly. Bulletin 14117 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from February 1, 2008, through February 28, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly and EPS motor controller unit. Note: GM bulletin number 14119 will be implemented for model year 2006-2008 and early production of 2009 Chevrolet HHR (non-turbo) and model year 2003 Saturn ION to provide EPS Motor replacement for the life of the vehicle.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
- Summary: General Motors (GM) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Saturn Aura and model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 vehicles, equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. On these vehicles, the tabs on the transmission shift cable end may fracture and separate.
- Consequence: If the tabs were to fracture and separate, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. The driver would be able to move the shifter to 'PARK' and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in 'PARK.' The vehicle may not be able to be restarted and the vehicle could roll away after the driver has exited the vehicle, resulting in a possible crash without prior warning.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer over the cable end or replace the shift cable as necessary. This service will be performed free of charge. Notification to owners began on on November 9, 2012. Owners were instructed to not bring their vehicles for repair until January 2013. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-521-7300.

My wife and I really enjoy driving this car. It's comfortable, has great power, and looks fantastic. We've been completely satisfied with it. Plus, compared to an import, it was much less expensive. We believe that American cars often get a bad reputation from reviewers.

The Pontiac G6 V6 is a fantastic car that stands out from other models sold in the USA by Japan, Korea or Europe. It has great looks, excellent handling, and impressive fuel economy (30+ mpg on open roads for our 3.5 V6). Additionally, it is reliable and does not have any issues with unintended acceleration, unlike some Toyotas.

I drove this car for 200 miles on the second day and managed to average 26.4MPG while driving at 65 MPH. The car is truly excellent and I can't wait to put the top down and have some fun. The workmanship is top-notch and I'm really impressed.

I am currently renting this car. Although I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with it. I usually drive a 2007 Audi A4, which only cost me about 5k more than a new G6 GT, and it feels about 100% better in terms of interior quality, handling, and overall build quality. However, I must admit that I was impressed with the 3.5 V6, which feels a lot stronger than the 219 HP it's putting out.

We purchased this car used with only a few thousand kilometers on it. However, we have encountered some difficulties since then. The rims and tires have been hard to find, and the car is too low in the winter, which has caused some damage. Additionally, cylinder 5 has a misfire, and the plug broke off in the engine, causing it to seize completely. The front brakes are also wearing out prematurely. Although we would like to get rid of it, we owe too much on it to trade it in. However, in a year, we plan to switch to a Ford. We must admit that this car has been a bit of a disappointment. There is too much plastic, and the interior feels and looks cheap. Nevertheless, the exterior looks okay.

I have an Accord. I recently had to rent a car while it was in the shop for a few weeks and unfortunately, I ended up with a Pontiac. While the engine was nice, I found the seats uncomfortable and there was no convenient place to put my sunglasses. Additionally, there were only two cup holders and none in the back seats. The turning radius was also quite poor. Overall, I believe there are better options available.

I received this car as a rental and I must say, it's a very fun car to drive. The seats are okay, but driving for long distances can be uncomfortable due to the hard plastic around the doors. While this car may not be the best example of American car companies' ability to compete, I have to say that after owning two Toyotas in the past, I'm not convinced to buy anything else. The build quality just isn't there and the car feels a bit cheap.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my new car. Unfortunately, it broke down on me the day after I bought it due to a faulty fuel pump. It's definitely frustrating to have a brand new car break down so soon, but I'm hopeful that the issue will be resolved quickly. Thanks for listening!
