The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

- Summary: Complete engine failure, knocking like crazy, fuel smell in the oil, The shop said the fuel in the oil broke it down and allowed the motor to fail. We were driving down the highway when it happened with family and kids which was not safe at all. No warning message at all, no check engine light, the shop has inspected and said it’s failed. The kia dealership has said many of the Kia’s have been recalled for engine failure but not ours? But others with the same motor have been.

No warning lights, check engine light, etc. Taken to a local mechanic who inspected and informed us the timing chain is nearly completely worn and it has rubbed a hole in the side of the engine. - Summary: My engine seized. When I took it to my mechanic they stated it was due to low compression and that Kia engines were known for this issue. He suggested I take it to a Kia dealer to have them replace the engine. I took it and I was denied the replacement. I did some research and found that this issue was in fact very popular among Kia owners. Some expressing their engines actually ignited. I also found there was a class-action lawsuit against Kia for this exact issue. I noticed all Kia models were included in the suit except for the Sedona. During my research I found a mass of Sedona owners who had the same compression issues. It baffles me why my car wasn't included when it has the exact isdues as the other models made by the same manufacturer. I would like to file a complaint in hopes that other Sedona owners have done the same, and we can bring light to this issue, and possibly a solution.

- Summary: On [XXX] at [XXX] the following incident happen with my 2019 KIA Sedona. The ABS and Traction Control Warning lights came ON when I applied the brakes when approaching a 4 way stop sign intersection, I heard a loud grinding sound from the back of the Sedona. The Sedona took longer to come to a stop, a full vehicle length past the stop bar. I was put at risk by the Sedona being in the intersection, instead of stopping at the stop bar. After clearing the intersection, I pulled over the Sedona, turned it off and then restarted it. Both the ABS and Traction Control Lights came back ON. I called the Jackson Kia Dealer in Cocoa Florida and got an answering machine for the service department. I left a message letting them know about the alarm lights and that I had already has at least 2 ABS modules replaced. I asked for an appointment as soon as possible to fix the problem. I had been told previously by KIA that it was safe to drive, but that I would have manual brakes in the rear and to apply breaks earlier, plus get the Sedona in for repair at the next opportunity for an appointment. As of yet the dealership has not seen the Sedona to diagnose the exact problem and cause. This is when these systems first appeared, and I had no other indications of a problem. If I need to use my brakes to disengage cruise control when traffic slows and then use the “resume” feature on the C.C. my vehicle continues to accelerate until I shut the cruise off and reset it. If I am resuming to say 65 MPH I can reach 85 MPH in a couple seconds. This happens more than 50 % of the times I use my C.C. As I continue to age and my reflexes slow, this issue becomes a safety issue for me.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, found the vehicle was low on oil by 4 quarts, and no warning lights were on indicating there was a problem with the vehicle. Monitored the vehicle over the next several days to determine if there were any visible oil leaks and there was not. Further inspection by the dealership confirmed there was no visible oil leak and was followed by an oil consumption test by the dealership. Dealership determine that 2 quarts of oil were consumed by the engine over the course of 1,000 mile which is indicates a failure of the test and problems within the engine.

The entire engine would have to be replaced if there was engine damage. The check engine would turn off for a couple of days and then turn back on. When the light would turn off, there was a lack of power, causing a lag in the throttle control.

Hi there! We found out that the steel lines leading to the heater rusted out shortly after the warranty expired. Unfortunately, our experience with the customer service team at Kia Corporation wasn't great. Despite having documentation that the part started to rust while still under warranty, and even confirmation from the dealership's service department, we couldn't come to a compromise on repairs.

Congratulations on your 2017 Sedona LX Plus! It sounds like you've had quite a history with vans, and this one is surely the nicest. With 28650 trouble-free miles, it's clear that this van is reliable and well-built. While the ride can be a little stiff on rough roads, it's a pleasure to drive on the highway, with comfortable seats and a quiet ride. The controls are simple and handy, making it easy to operate. With 276 hp 3.3L six, it has plenty of power, and the gas mileage on the highway has improved up to 26 MPG with a light load. It's great that the middle row outer seats are not removable but slide up and stand against the front seats, making it easier on your back. It's wonderful to hear that you've had no mechanical issues with the Sedona in the four years you've had it, and it has come in handy helping your son with his house remodel. You can even fit a standard tub or a pre-hung exterior door for trips from Home Depot! Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Sedona, and we hope it continues to serve you well. This thing really moves! The double power sliding doors and stow-and-go seating have been awesome. We bought ours with 58k miles and have put on 11k more. So far, we haven't had a hint of trouble. We've had five vans during our child-raising years, and this one blows the others out of the water!

I have owned my Sedona for over a year now and have taken it on two huge road trips, currently on a 12,000 mile trip. I am getting 24.5 mpg and have had zero problems. I looked at the Pacifica but didn't like it as the turning circle was much better on the Sedona. Although I didn't like the transmission knob, the Sedona can be shifted manually which was great in the Colorado mountains last week. The Sedona looks and operates more like an SUV than a minivan. For me, the minivan makes a lot more sense than an SUV -- unless you plan to go off-road, which few people do. I have had an upscale 2015 SUV as my last car and it didn't handle as well as the Sedona, was less comfortable, had much less cargo space, had poorer visibility, and on and on. To me, the Sedona is the better choice. I wouldn't trade my Sedona for any other minivan. Plus, it has the best warranty in the car business. I am 79 and my wife is 75, and we LOVE our minivan. It handles well, has incredible room, has three uncrowded rows of seats (vs most SUV's), has rear entertainment for the grand kids, has a very tight turning circle, has great manual shifting for the mountains, etc. I could go on and on. Oh yeah, and the price was better than the competitors. Now with 43,500 miles, the Sedona still has not had one problem. It has nearly 29,000 trouble-free miles, and has averaged 23.9 mpg in all types of driving. For some reason car reviews knock the Sedona for bad mileage. Lead foot maybe? Normal driving gets excellent mileage. Plus it's quick. Car and Driver clocked it at 7.4 seconds 0-60. I just returned from a 6000 mile road trip and everything was perfect. No problems whatsoever. My Sedona looks more like an SUV inside and out, but has all the conveniences of a minivan. I highly recommend it!I recently took my Sedona to the KIA dealer for its 40,000 mile maintenance check. I specifically requested them to thoroughly inspect the car for any issues. To my surprise, they found absolutely nothing wrong with it. I was amazed that after 43,500 miles, the brakes were still in good condition. Just a few days ago, I had a couple in the car for a 45 mile drive. The gentleman owns a Toyota Sienna van and he was impressed with how smooth the Sedona was on the road and how well it handled. He even mentioned that he preferred it over his Toyota. Overall, I have had a remarkable experience with this car.

We chose the Kia Sedona over the Toyota Sienna because it had more features for a lower price. However, during the test drive, I noticed a serious flaw in the transmission. When accelerating from a stop, the gears shift back and forth causing the van to shake, almost like the engine is misfiring. As someone who worked as an auto technician for several years, I found this issue to be quite frustrating. Despite taking it back to the dealer, they were unable to find anything wrong with it. However, when I asked one of their technicians to ride with me, he immediately noticed the issue and informed me that it is the same problem that the Kia Sorrento has, and there is currently no fix for it. Although there aren't many complaints online about the Sedona having this issue, there are plenty of complaints about the Sorrento's transmission. I contacted Kia customer service to express my dissatisfaction and inquire about a solution. Unfortunately, they were unable to provide any information on whether or not they were working on a solution. While the van is great in every other aspect, the transmission issue is a significant problem that needs to be addressed.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2007 Kia Sedona LX. I've had it since November of 2009 and unfortunately, I've been having some trouble with the battery. It seems that the vehicle has a draw, which means I've had to replace the battery every six months. I've taken it to the dealership a few times to complain about the issue, but unfortunately, they haven't been able to find a solution. I've even talked to other Sedona owners from the same year, and they've had the same problem. Although this van presented some challenges, I was able to address them with the help of skilled mechanics. The air conditioning system required some attention, and the engine had some issues during certain weather conditions. Additionally, there were some problems with the rear heat antifreeze pipe and the sliding doors. However, I was able to resolve these issues and improve the van's performance. I also took steps to improve the van's alignment and tire wear. Overall, I am confident in my ability to maintain and improve the performance of my vehicles.

We purchased the van in December 2010 with 25K miles on it. Unfortunately, we experienced some issues with the hatch and sliding doors not closing properly. We took it back to the dealer and found out there was a recall on the hatch. Despite the dealer's efforts to fix the doors, we continued to experience issues with them. We have had to take the vehicle back to the dealer weekly from May to August. Although we have had some challenges with this vehicle, we remain hopeful that the dealer will be able to resolve the issues. We appreciate your caution when considering this vehicle. Personally, I prefer Honda, but I gave Kia a try and it just wasn't the right fit for me.

I have experienced an issue with the rotors on my Sedona 2010 where they always stress on a downgrade, causing the whole system to vibrate and sound like it will fail. Despite the car having less than 35,000 miles, the dealer told me it was due to the way I drive, despite living on flat land with little to no traffic to stress the system. However, after receiving a 'Goodwill Warranty' and having the front and rear brakes machined, I experienced the same issue within 3 months. Upon returning to the dealer, they insisted I needed to replace all rotors for approximately $500. However, I sought a second opinion from my local brake specialist who was able to machine the left front rotor for only $70, and confirmed that the pads were still good and the rotors did not need to be replaced. Despite this, I experienced the same issue again 6 months later on a downhill grade. I am curious if anyone else has experienced a similar issue?
