The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.

The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.

First generation (KV-II; 1998)

The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.

In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

How many miles will a 2005 Kia Sedona last?

There's a good reason why the Sedona has lasted for decades – it combines quality, value, and overall reliability. And that reliability has successfully translated well into the Kia Sedona's lifespan. With that said, a well-maintained Kia Sedona can typically last between 200,000 to 300,000 miles.

Do Kia Sedona have transmission problems?

If you don't routinely and always change your fluids at least every 30,000 miles or so, you may find that your Kia Sedona transmission will quickly slip.

Is the Kia Sedona reliable?

The severity of repairs is low, and these issues are less frequent than average, so the Sedona is one of the more reliable vehicles on the road.

Is a 2008 Kia Sedona a good car?

The 2008 Kia Sedona is impressively quick off the line and swift during highway passing maneuvers, and it provides a smooth, quiet ride. Even at high speeds, front and rear passengers can maintain a conversation without having to yell. The Sedona is composed over most roads, but handling isn't athletic.

  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: MY KIA SEDONA STARTS WHEN IT WANTS TO. I HAVE POWER TO THE DASH LIGHTS, RADIO, AND OTHER ELECTRONICS. THE COMPANY HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE THE 2002 VERSION AND WITH HIGH MILES. IT HAS TO DEAL WITH THE "AN ISSUE WITH THE FACTORY VEHICLE IMMOBILIZER CONTROL MODULE CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO THINK IT IS BEING STOLEN. THIS WILL IMMEDIATELY DISALLOW THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING.". WHILE THIS IS GOOD MOST OF THE TIME, IT ISN'T GOOD SINCE IT DOESN'T SET OFF THE "ENGINE LIGHT" SO MECHANICS CAN READ THE COMPUTER. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR A MONTH AND MISSED NUMEROUS DAYS OF WORK DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THE MECHANICS THAT ATTEMPT TO WORK ON MY VEHICLE, CAN NOT GET IT TO DUPLICATE THE "NOT STARTING", IT WILL START EVERY TIME FOR THEM. MAKING ME FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR TWO MONTHS AND IT DRAINING MY FINANCES. I DID SOME RESEARCH OF MY OWN AND DISCOVERED THAT ON WWW.REPAIRPAL.COM HAS MANY WHO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. KIA WANTS ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST KIA DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THE NEAREST DEALER IS 6 HRS AWAY AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WOULD MAKE IT THERE. I COULDN'T EVEN DRIVE IT 2 HRS WITH OUT AN ISSUE. I FEEL SINCE THEY KNEW THERE WAS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS MODULE ON THIS VEHICLE, THEY SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE IT AND MAKE COMPENSATION FOR THE CUSTOMER.

  • Summary: 3/29/2016...MY 2005 KIA SEDONA HAS STEERING PROBLEMS. THE STEERING WHEEL IS TIGHT OR STIFF AND OFTEN DIFFICULT TO STEER ESPECIALLY IN MAKING RIGHT TURNS. MY MECHANIC EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM THIS MORNING WHEN DRIVING IT AND SAID IT IS THE STEERING COUPLER. WHEN HE CONTACTED A LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP THEIR PARTS DEPARTMENT TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ITEM. HOWEVER, IT SEEMS WHEN I CALLED TO ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL ADDRESSED, I LEARNED THAT THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AT THIS TIME BUT THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL BACK IN 2005 ON THE STEERING COUPLER AND WORK HAD BEEN DONE. HOWEVER, I DIDN'T PURCHASE THE VAN UNTIL 2007 AND WAS UNAWARE OF THAT RECALL. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS STEERING PROBLEM THAT IS OCCURRING NOW IN MY KIA SEDONA VAN AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AGAIN BY KIA AND BELIEVE THAT OTHER OWNERS MAY BE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS IN STEERING THEIR VANS AS I AM. THE STEERING COUPLER NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AGAIN.

Negative 2005 Kia Sedona car reviews

  1. Bobbie Pagac 2024-11-07

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Sedona. When I first got it, it only had 12 miles on it, and now it has over 67,000 miles! I've taken it on many road trips and while the storage space has been a bit disappointing, I've found that opting for the luggage rack has helped a lot. I do have to give it credit for its reliability though. I've been sure to maintain the oil changes like the dealership suggested, and I have NEVER had any problems with its overall performance. Of course, the gas mileage could be better, but that's true for most vehicles with 6 cylinders. Thanks for listening!

  2. Wilfredo Mann 2024-09-16

The car's warranty has not proven to be valuable. Despite having the car for only 4 years and driving it for 70,000 miles, I have had to replace the tires 9 times and the brakes 5 times. Unfortunately, the current issue with the engine is not covered by the warranty, even though I have proof of regular oil changes. The options presented to me are to either pay for a used engine with a 6-month warranty for $3,500 or trade it in for a new car. It is disappointing that a 4-year-old car requires a new engine while my husband's 20-year-old car still runs smoothly.

  3. Glen Johnston 2024-09-15

I've had this van for almost 3 years now and it has 43k miles on it. Although it gets an average gas mileage of about 18-19 combined driving, I've had to put the 3rd set of brakes on it. Unfortunately, the front end vibrates horribly and makes a weird popping noise, but the dealership has been unable to find an issue. Additionally, the tires on the front only seem to last about 15k miles, probably due to the front end issue that can't be found. There's also a squeaky rattle in the van since picking it up, which the dealership has been unable to fix. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this car, but I hope that the newer models have improved.

  4. Emile Sauer 2024-08-13

When we purchased the Sedona, we had high hopes that it would be a dependable vehicle in case my husband was ever deployed. Unfortunately, during my move from NC to UT, it unexpectedly died at highway speeds just before Albuquerque NM. It was quite scary as I had to avoid several semi trucks on the I-40 west. However, after being towed three times, the dealership was able to fix the issue with our guidance. Despite the initial setback, we are hopeful that the Sedona will continue to serve us well.

  5. Bennie Cronin 2024-08-05

I strongly advise against purchasing a KIA due to my personal experience with their warranty policy. Despite following the recommended services per the warranty policy, KIA refused to honor their warranty and claimed that the issues with my car were due to lack of maintenance. This is a common loophole they use to avoid doing warranty work. Unfortunately, neither the dealership nor KIA corporate were willing to assist me. In contrast, my husband's Honda with twice as many miles has had no issues. I recommend choosing a more reliable manufacturer instead of KIA.

  1. Winston Hoppe 2024-11-09

    No problem!

  2. Lavern Murphy 2024-11-03

So far it sounds like you're enjoying your new vehicle! It's great to hear that it has good pickup and a smooth ride. Adding a DVD player for the kids was a smart move, it definitely makes those long car rides more enjoyable. It's also great to hear that you got a good deal on a large automobile. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  3. Wilhelm Bednar 2024-10-24

I recently purchased a 2005 Kia Sedona LX and I must say, it's a really nice minivan. The exterior is pleasing to the eyes and the interior is made up of good materials, making it quite comfortable. My kids love the roominess of the interior, all the cup holders, lights, and rear controls for heat and air. However, I am a bit concerned about the fuel mileage, which is known to be below average. Despite this, I still think it was a good purchase for my family and me.

  4. Xander Aufderhar 2024-09-28

The front brakes on this car tend to have issues. I have had to replace them multiple times.

  5. Derek Daniel 2024-08-13

We really love this minivan! We've owned it for almost a year, and it's been so pretty, reliable, and perfect! We haven't had any problems, and it drives like a dream. We're so happy that we were able to afford all the extra features we wanted, like a sunroof and leather, without breaking the bank. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this vehicle!
