2011 Kia Sedona problems
The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-31
- VIN: KNDMG4C78B6
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: I had no prior knowledge of this problem. When backing my van out of the garage my front driver side tire blew out. This was caused by the strut spring breaking and poking a hole through the sidewall of the tire. I also discovered that the bottom control arm needed immediate replacement as it has rusted so much that a failure was imminent. I also discovered that the sun-frame mount for mounting the control arm to the sub-frame so badly rusted that it was unsafe to attempt a repair, as it would break away in short order if I were to replace the control arm and drive the van. While deciding what to do with the van I was storing it in my barn. Within a few weeks, I discovered the front passenger tire was flat. It too was impaled when the strut spring broke and poked a hole in the sidewall. I was really lucky that I was driving on a road, as serious crash could have occurred. If this failed while driving, loss of control would have occurred. I consider this a major safety issue and may be present in other Sedonas without the owners' knowledge. I contacted the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from and was told they could do nothing.

- Summary: Right passenger slide door on minivan opened while my son was in the car and would not close. There is a recall on this and extended 15 year warranty but Kia wouldn’t honor the electronic controller that burnt out but warranted the motor. Passenger can fall out or something can hurt them. Kia dealer confirmed this and I had to pay a large repair bill for there recall defect. I am afraid to take the car anywhere except local. I feel there recall repair caused this problem. First I took it in for the recall. Next time I used that door it got stuck open. Vehicle is garaged with approximately 30,000 miles on it.

- Manufacturer: Kia Motors America
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM:FUEL RAIL
- Summary: Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2011-2012 Sedona vehicles. The fuel rail may crack from exposure to heat generated within the engine compartment, resulting in a fuel leak.
- Consequence: A fuel leak increases the risk of fire.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel rail, free of charge. The recall began June 16, 2020. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC188.

In the event of a crash, the air bag control unit (ACU) may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags and seat belt pretensioners from deploying.
- Consequence: If the frontal air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners. For model year 2011 Sedona vehicles, Kia will instruct dealers to verify the ACU part number and, if necessary, install an extension wire harness kit between the ACU Connector and the Vehicle Harness Connector. For all other affected vehicles, Kia will instruct dealers to install the extension wire harness kit. The recall began September 28, 2018. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC165.
- Manufacturer: Kia Motors America

In the affected vehicles, the front lower control arms may break due to corrosion from salt water exposure such as from road salt use.
- Consequence: A broken control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners and dealers will replace the front lower control arms on 2006-2007 models. 2008-2012 models will either have their front lower control arms replaced or additional anti-corrosion coating will be applied. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on July 27, 2016. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC133.
- Manufacturer: Kia Motors America

- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Kia Sedona vehicles manufactured from June 15, 2005, through April 04, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.
- Consequence: If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners and dealers will replace the secondary hood latch or clean and lubricate the latch, depending on the vehicle's location and the condition of the latch. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on July 27, 2016. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall number is SC134.
- Manufacturer: Kia Motors Corporation
- Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM
- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 Kia Sedona vehicles manufactured from June 15, 2005, through August 14, 2012 originally sold in, or currently registered in Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, the front lower control arms may break due to corrosion resulting from prolonged exposure to salty environments.
- Consequence: A broken control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners and dealers will inspect the degree of corrosion of the front lower control arms, and will either rustproof or replace them, free of charge. The recall began on December 20, 2013. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall number is SC100.
- Manufacturer: Kia Motors Corporation
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

I previously owned a 2004 Chrysler T&C that required frequent maintenance from the day I bought it. So, I decided to trade it in for a Kia Sedona. I purchased a 2010 Sedona EX with Luxury and entertainment packages. I have owned my Sedona for a month now and I must say, it is a really nice vehicle, especially compared to my T&C. It's very comfortable, the ride is extremely smooth, and the amenities are terrific. I would definitely purchase this vehicle given a second opportunity.

This car definitely has a high ratio of quality and price. It runs very smoothly and quietly.

My 2009 KIA was my first brand new van and I absolutely love it! I had a 2003 KIA to trade in and the process was smooth. Although I had some issues with low tire pressure, the Road Assistance team responded quickly and the service team was able to identify and fix the problem. The only thing I would change is the headrests in the back seat, as they are quite uncomfortable. If they were raised, the driver's view from the rearview mirror would be obstructed. It would also be great if there were a darker blue option available, as I currently have the glacier blue. I have used my KIA for both long trips to Tennessee and daily commutes to work, and the foot rest has been a lifesaver during long drives. While I do need to replace the brakes and rotors, I still love my KIA and would highly recommend it!

We purchased this car used in 2011 for $15K with 20K miles on it. Now, with just over 100K miles, I must say it has been a fantastic and reliable car. Other than the occasional battery death every 2-3 years and the TPMS light turning on and off, all I had to do was put synthetic oil every 15000 miles and do some minor repairs myself. Replacement parts are available at a reasonable price, making it a fun car to work on myself. Instead of paying those expensive mechanics, I found everything I needed on YouTube! One surprising part that recently failed was a front axle, which cost me about $500 for parts and labor. Other than that, just make sure to tighten some screws yourself once in a while (e.g. door parts), and you're good to go! We plan on keeping this car until it dies. If we still need a 7-passenger car then, I'll probably spring for a used Telluride. My impression of Kia is that it is a quality brand!

I really enjoy the ride, turn ratio, and roominess of the van. However, it's important to note that there may be some electrical door problems down the road. In my experience, my Sedona started having issues after hitting 107,000 miles. Additionally, the film on my driver's side window is starting to bubble. While it can be frustrating that the van starts when it wants to, I've found that it usually starts for mechanics. My husband even used a walking stick to touch the starter and it started right up! The sliding doors can also be a bit finicky, with one only working with the power button in the car and the other working remotely and manually, but not with the power button. Overall, I still think it's a great van with a lot of great features.

From Oldsmobile Silhouette to this. Although it has 4 miles less per gallon of gas than my 1999 and 2004, I appreciate its unique features. While it may ride a bit rough, it has a certain charm to it. In snowy conditions, it may require some extra care, but with good snow tires, it can handle the road. I have experienced some issues with the doors freezing shut in winter, but overall, it has been a reliable vehicle. While the wiper blades could be improved, they still do a decent job. The side mirrors could be better suited to the vehicle, but they get the job done. Although the arm rests have failed in the past, they are easily replaceable. While the radio may not be the best, it still serves its purpose. While this vehicle may not be for everyone, I appreciate its unique qualities and would consider it again in the future.

Although some customers have had negative experiences with KIA, it may be worth considering other options before making a final decision. Some features may not be included as standard, and the fuel efficiency may not be as high as other models. Additionally, some customers have reported issues with handling and acceleration. However, there are some convenient features such as radio controls on the steering wheel. It may be worth investing in a more reliable minivan in the long run.

I experienced significant issues with my car, including frequent failure to start and problems with the power sliding doors. Despite multiple visits to the service department, the issues were not resolved. However, I was able to successfully apply for the New York state lemon law and receive compensation. The radio also required attention early on. Overall, my experience with the car was challenging, but I was able to navigate the situation and find a resolution.

We rode in 2 Sedonas EX that provided a great ride over bumps and other obstacles. However, after purchasing a different color Sedona EX, we found the ride over cracks in the road to be very uncomfortable. It still rides well on smooth roads, but on rougher terrain, it feels like an old truck. We are disappointed in the quality of the ride.
