The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

- Summary: The first of four tire failures (all the same DOT Number) of the OEM tires that were on the 2021 Kia Sedona when purchased in April, 2021. The first tire belt broke when on an approximate 1000 mile drive and was replaced on an emergency basis on January 24, 2024 with 16,760 miles on the vehicle. The second tire belt broke on the trip home and was replaced on an emergency basis on March 8, 2024 with 18,927. After arriving home, the tires were inspected, found to have defective belts and were replaced with a warranty adjustment by Discount Tire in Oswego with 19,191 miles. Kumho has still not honored the warranty by sending checks for the first two defective tires. (Can't find receipt from warranty replacement by Discount Tires but will continue looking. Have many photos of defective tire if desired.)

AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 20 MILES, WITH TWO PERIODS OF PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS AGAIN ENGAGED AT 45 MPH ON AN OTHERWISE EMPTY ROAD. WHILE I ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE FOLLOWING-DISTANCE CONTROL FEATURE, THE VEHICLE AGAIN BRAKED SUDDENLY WITH THE SAME SET OF ALERTS AND SYMBOLS AS DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT. AGAIN STEERING TO THE ROAD SHOULDER, THE ENGINE WAS STOPPED AND RESTARTED WITH ALL ALERTS/SYMBOLS EXTINGUISHED EXCEPT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

Rides and handles great! The drive feels like an SUV. It has decent performance, heated seats (front and back), leather, and easy loading for musical gear with plenty of room. It gets 20 mpg in town and 25 on the interstate. I have owned it for over 2 years with no problems. The dynamic cruise and safety sensors work very well.

Buying this vehicle involved two of the dealer's salespeople, Luis Vazquez and Sam Hackett. Luis was our first contact and he showed us the vehicle, but due to medical problems, he asked us to complete the sale with Sam. Both of these gentlemen were very professional and answered all of our questions. The sale was completed with no problems. This was a great experience in buying a newer vehicle. I purchased a 2017 Kia Sedona LX Plus in October 2018 and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned! According to Consumer Reports, the Kia Sedona has been rated the most reliable minivan since 2015 and has also been named a top safety pick by IIHS. It's a real winner! The Sedona has the appearance of a giant SUV, but drives like a car and gives you the feeling of sitting in a tall pickup truck. The driver's seat is positioned very high in this vehicle, making for a comfortable ride. In a suburban area like the South Shore of Long Island, the gas mileage is about 16 MPG due to frequent stops at lights and stop signs. However, on trips to upstate NY, I was able to get up to 29 MPG in this vehicle, which is amazing for its size! I traded in a 2016 Jeep Patriot for the Sedona and the gas mileage is about the same. The Sedona can tow up to 3500 pounds, making it perfect for towing a 16-foot boat, a 25 hp motor, and a lot of fishing gear. It's also great for camping trips, as it's the only type of vehicle you can comfortably sleep in the back of, and for carrying a lot of hunting gear. The seats fold very nicely and are very comfortable. The Sedona is a high-class minivan with excellent workmanship and leather seats. It's the ultimate SUV and way more versatile than a pickup truck. Before purchasing a van, make sure to check the safety ratings. The Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country have poor frontal car protection (small overlap test) and are dangerous. The Sedona, on the other hand, is a top safety pick and has way more safety features than other vans. The Toyota Sienna got a marginal rating, so the Sedona is definitely the way to go! Overall, I have no complaints about this vehicle and it's very comfortable on long rides. I have the Apple CarPlay and Android radio, which is about 7 inches wide and has excellent sound quality. I remember being in Boy Scouts in the 1970s and driving to summer camp in a couple of vans with 30 kids and all our camping gear. Those vans were great, but they were too commercial looking and boxy. The mini van is way better looking and almost the same cargo. If you're considering buying a minivan, I highly recommend checking out Carvana. I got my Sedona for a great price and even got bumper to bumper coverage until 92,000 miles or 5 years with Carvana care. I don't understand why people are complaining about the gas mileage in the Sedona. This minivan is definitely worth considering if you're in the market for one. It has most of the features of more expensive brands, but without the hefty price tag. And let's be honest, it's the best looking minivan out there - it doesn't resemble a spaceship or giant egg on wheels!

I bought a brand new 2017 Kia Sedona in June of that year and was excited to put the first miles on it. Unfortunately, in March of 2020, I was informed that my tires were cupping at only 36k miles, despite my regular maintenance and tire rotations. I replaced the tires in July of 2020, including an alignment, but was disappointed to learn that my tires are cupping again. This is my third Kia, and I have never had any issues with the previous two Sorento models. I tend to agree with the technician that this may be a design flaw in this particular model. I am extremely upset that my tires are going bad again after only 8 months (technically 6 due to COVID).

We purchased a 2020 Sedona EX model in March of the same year and have driven it for 2800 miles so far. We have mostly driven it in town with one road trip across the state. As someone who is used to Toyotas and Hondas, I have a fairly high standard, but cost was an important factor for us. Fortunately, the Sedona EX model was about $6000 cheaper than comparable models from other brands, which was a great start. We even liked its appearance and design better, which was a bonus. Overall, it has been fine with no service issues yet, but it just does not have the same quality feel that Toyotas and Hondas tend to have. Our biggest issue is with the engine/transmission that surges and hesitates when cold. It feels like we are driving a 40-year-old carbureted van with the way it misses and the transmission has to keep downshifting to have any power. Driving it smoothly is almost impossible. The transmission, even when warm, never seems to be in the right gear and is constantly upshifting with most any press of the throttle. Having 9 gears seems silly when a properly calibrated 5-speed would be much smoother and simpler. However, gas mileage is okay, around 20 in town and 25 on the highway, and it is able to cruise effortlessly at 75MPH with little cabin noise. The steering is a bit vague with lots of roll and swaying, but it is a van after all. The seats are very comfortable, and the radio works well once you learn how to use it, although it is a little complicated. The brakes work well, although the almost thumping sound of the ABS when it engages is a bit disconcerting. Having the cold down seats in the back is great and gives lots of flexibility. The kids love to drive in it with the bucket seats in the 2nd row. It would have been nice to include USB or even a cigarette lighter outlet for the 2nd or 3rd rows, but oh well. In conclusion, it is a very serviceable van that does its job, just with a few rough edges. Perhaps the new model will be better with the larger engine.

The air conditioner controls had to be replaced three times, despite the lack of recalls, due to the risk of burning out when using the third or fourth speed in front air conditioner settings, especially in the heat of Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, the guarantee only covered the first repair, leaving me to pay $1,650.00 out of pocket for the two subsequent repairs. As a result of this experience, I have decided not to purchase another Kia in the future.

...maybe it's just because we're 'old' people, but we bought the van to haul our grandkids around when we have them all. The DVD and CD players are more of an add-on and not really part of the van. Unfortunately, they have to be operated from the back seats on the screens, so it's a little more trouble when it's the younger kids. To play a CD, you have to pull over and start it from the back seat. It's hard to find something like what we were used to with our 2014 Town and Country. Other than that, the van seems to be fine.

Update at 130K - It seems there are ongoing issues with recalls. It may take some time to get into service and get the power door fixed. Additionally, there is a latest issue with an oil pressure switch located on the top rail, under the plenum, adjacent to the knock sensors. When it leaks, it travels down the rail on top of the engine, drips down and mimics a rear main oil leak when mechanics have it on a rack. However, there is some good news. Kia has sent a letter saying they will fix it for free. Just bring it in to the dealer. If you talk to the dealer, they will be happy to help you. Transmission still slips on takeoff once in a while, then disappears on the next drive. Had a transmission mechanic look at it and they couldn't find anything. Had 3-4 quarts drained and filled twice over the past 30k. Update at 110K - While I may think twice before buying a Kia anytime in the near future, I am confident that the previously fixed (recalled) malfunctioning rear driver's side power door will be fixed again. Now the local dealership tells me it will be December (I'm calling in July) before a recall can be fixed! So I called another Kia dealer 50 miles away and it's even better. They say the car needs to be left with them so they can take a video of the problem with the door and send it to Kia so they can decide if the motor will need replacing or if they will fix it. Then I will need to make an appointment and bring it back. Shocked by 3+ hr estimate for just changing plugs, because the top of the engine needs to be removed along with a lot of connections that make the process complicated/tedious, just to access the rear 3 plugs. However, there are options available. You can get it done for $500+ at the dealer, or $260-$300 at an independent shop.Transmission still clunks into gear occasionally on takeoff, but after a start or two, it disappears. After 94,000 miles, the vehicle has had no service issues other than one front brake job, a battery replacement, and a recall for the sliding door mechanism. The ride is reasonably smooth and quiet with the right tires, but the gas mileage is unimpressive. The vehicle jerks slightly at startup and take-off once in a while, but the dealer couldn't find anything wrong while under warranty. The cockpit may be somewhat cramped for larger drivers, and the seat position can't be rocked forward slightly to ease pressure on legs unless lowered too far. However, the vehicle has faster acceleration and power than most. The screen for the backup camera on the LX is far too small and almost unusable on sunny days. The red instrumentation lights look cheap and are not as attractive or legible as amber. The chrome trim on the dash around the radio is a safety hazard with a lot of glare sometimes when the sun reflects off of it. The cargo utilization is lacking with an overall smaller size and unwieldy seat positioning, especially the middle row. The exterior colors are borderline unattractive. The driver's door does not stay open sometimes when exiting, especially on a slight incline. Despite these issues, the vehicle has been reliable and has had no major problems.
