2010 Kia Sedona problems
The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

Common 2010 Kia Sedona problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2010 Kia Sedona, several common problems have been identified:
- Noisy AC System:
- Owners have experienced excessive noise when the AC is turned on, caused by rapid wear of the idler and tensioner pulleys on the AC alternator belt. Replacing these parts can resolve the issue.
- Misfiring Engine:
- Regular engine misfiring is often linked to cracked ignition coils, which can lead to catalytic converter damage. Replacing the ignition coil pack is necessary to prevent further issues.
- Gear Shifting Problems:
- Some owners have reported difficulties in making smooth gear changes, with gears dropping into 3rd unexpectedly. Premature wear of the output sensor at the top of the transmission is often the culprit, requiring a replacement to fix the issue.
- Malfunctioning Turn Signals:
- Turn signals that work intermittently or not at all are commonly caused by a faulty switch in the selector lever. Replacing the selector lever is recommended to address this issue.
- Squealing Brakes:
- Squealing noises when applying the brakes are attributed to uneven brake calipers and pad wear in early models of the Sedona. Upgrading to a new brake system designed by Kia can resolve this problem.
- Leaking Power Steering Pipes:
- Owners have reported red oil leaks under the vehicle, likely due to leaking power steering pipes. Replacing these pipes is necessary to fix this issue.
- Faulty Air Conditioning System:
- Issues with the air conditioning system, such as failure of the condenser leading to partial functionality, require replacing the condenser to restore full operation.
- Engine Idling and Throttle Position Sensor:
- Problems with engine idling and the engine management warning light appearing on the dashboard are often linked to a faulty throttle position sensor. Replacing this sensor is necessary to address acceleration hesitation and warning light issues.
These common problems reported by owners of the 2010 Kia Sedona highlight various issues ranging from engine-related concerns to issues with the vehicle's systems like AC, brakes, and turn signals. Addressing these problems promptly can help maintain the performance and safety of the vehicle.
Is the 2010 Kia Sedona a good car?
With horsepower near the top of its class, a "Top Safety Pick" rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), seating for seven and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, it's hard to argue with the Sedona.
How many miles does a 2010 Kia Sedona last?
There's a good reason why the Sedona has lasted for decades – it combines quality, value, and overall reliability. And that reliability has successfully translated well into the Kia Sedona's lifespan. With that said, a well-maintained Kia Sedona can typically last between 200,000 to 300,000 miles.
What problems does the Kia Sedona have?
Early models of the Sedona were fitted with a front disc and rear drum braking system that has caused a lot of brake issues. Uneven brake callipers are the cause of the squealing noise, while also causing uneven brake pad wear.
Are Kia Sedona's reliable cars?
The Kia Sedona has a decent reliability rating. According to withclutch.com, the Sedona has a score of 59.2. This number makes it a vehicle with decent reliability and one of the better selections from the Kia brand. It's also ideal to have a secondary perspective on the reliability of the product.

- Consequence: A broken control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners and dealers will inspect the degree of corrosion of the front lower control arms, and will either rustproof or replace them, free of charge. The recall began on December 20, 2013. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall number is SC100.
- Manufacturer: Kia Motors Corporation
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

My company purchased a 2010 Sedona. However, we have been experiencing issues with the battery draining when the emergency flashers are on for more than 10 minutes without the van running. Despite bringing it back to the dealer, they were unable to find any faults. As an expert in the automotive industry, I can confidently say that a battery should not go dead within such a short period of time. It is disappointing that the KIA company has not taken any action to resolve this issue despite numerous complaints. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend purchasing a KIA, even though it is part of the Hyundai family. It is important to consider the potential risks, such as being stranded on the side of the highway with a dead battery and a flat tire. As a professional, I urge buyers to exercise caution and thoroughly research their options before making a purchase.

Our van purchase in late May (2010) was a great decision. We wanted a vehicle that could haul items around, and the lx model 2009 we bought in 2010 has exceeded our expectations. The smooth ride and comfort of this van are exceptional, making it a pleasure to drive. Despite only having it for two months, we are already planning a trip and can't wait to hit the road. Although we would have preferred the Dual Climate control option that only comes in the ex model, we are still very satisfied with our purchase and the way it handles on the road.
-
Congratulations on your growing family! It sounds like you made a smart choice in upgrading to the Kia Sedona to accommodate your needs. With its spacious interior and top safety rating, it's no wonder you feel so secure with your loved ones on board. It's great to hear that you were able to find a 2009 model that fit your budget and still met all your requirements. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

My 2009 KIA was my first brand new van and I absolutely love it! I had a 2003 KIA to trade in and the process was smooth. Although I had some issues with low tire pressure, the Road Assistance team responded quickly and the service team was able to identify and fix the problem. The only thing I would change is the headrests in the back seat, as they are quite uncomfortable. If they were raised, the driver's view from the rearview mirror would be obstructed. It would also be great to have a darker blue color option, as I currently have the glacier blue. I have used my KIA for both long trips to Tennessee and daily commutes to work, and the foot rest has been a lifesaver during long drives. I do need to replace the brakes and rotors, but overall, I still love my KIA!

I purchased this van in April 2010 as a new 09 model and got a fantastic deal. The ride quality is pleasant, the engine is smooth, quiet, and powerful, and the interior is well-designed, with the exception of the armrests, which are mounted too low on the seats. So far, we have only driven it for family outings and not for day-to-day driving, resulting in only 1600 miles on the odometer. During this time, it has been back to the dealer twice due to the check engine light coming on two different times and the battery dying once. Fortunately, Kia roadside assistance picked it up when the battery died, and both of the check engine lights turned out to be sensor problems. Hopefully, all of these issues have been resolved. I love the van, but it has been a bit of a hassle so far.

From Oldsmobile Silhouette to this. Although it has 4 miles less per gallon of gas than my 1999 and 2004, I appreciate its unique features. While it may ride a bit rough, it has a certain charm to it. In snowy conditions, it may require some extra care, but with good snow tires, it can handle the road. I have experienced some issues with the doors freezing shut in winter, but overall, it has been a reliable vehicle. While the wiper blades could be improved, they still do a decent job. The side mirrors could be better suited to the vehicle, but they get the job done. Although the arm rests have failed in the past, they are easily replaceable. While the radio may not be the best, it still serves its purpose. While this vehicle may not be for everyone, I appreciate its unique qualities and would consider it again in the future.

We rode in 2 Sedonas EX that provided a great ride over bumps and other obstacles. However, after purchasing a different color Sedona EX, we found the ride over cracks in the road to be very uncomfortable. It still rides well on smooth roads, but on rougher terrain, it feels like an old truck. We are disappointed in the quality of the ride.

I experienced significant issues with my car, including frequent failure to start and problems with the power sliding doors. Despite multiple visits to the service department, the issues were not resolved. However, I was able to successfully apply for the New York state lemon law and receive compensation. The radio also required attention early on. Overall, my experience with the car was challenging, but I was able to navigate the situation and find a resolution.

Although some customers have had negative experiences with KIA, it may be worth considering other options before making a final decision. Some features may not be included as standard, and the fuel efficiency may not be as high as other models. Additionally, some customers have reported issues with handling and acceleration. However, there are some convenient features such as radio controls on the steering wheel. It may be worth investing in a more reliable minivan in the long run.

I really enjoy the ride, turn ratio, and roominess of the van. However, it's important to note that there may be some electrical door problems down the road. In my experience, my Sedona started having issues after hitting 107,000 miles. Additionally, the film on my driver's side window is starting to bubble. While it can be frustrating that the van starts when it wants to, I've found that it usually starts for mechanics. My husband even used a walking stick to touch the starter and it started right up! The sliding doors can also be a bit finicky, with one only working with the power button in the car and the other working remotely and manually, but not with the power button. Overall, I still think it's a great van with a lot of great features.
