The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

SOON AFTER THE TURN AS I STEADIED SPEED, THE NOISE WOULD DECREASE OR DISAPPEAR. SINCE RETURNING HOME I BEGAN TO INVESTIGATE WHAT THE LIKELY CULPRIT MAY BE, AND NOW BELIEVE STRONGLY THAT IT IS THE UNIVERSAL JOINT; A PROBLEM THAT HAS CLEARLY EFFECTED ENOUGH KIA SEDONA OWNERS THAT I FIND THE LACK OF RECALL QUITE MADDENING AND A BIT CONFOUNDING. Living in Canada, our winters can be tough on cars. However, this Kia van was a true survivor! I purchased it with 250,000km on the odometer and drove it until it reached 450,000km. It was still running strong, but unfortunately, I hit a moose going 110km/h and it was destroyed. Every year, we would haul a 4500-pound trailer all around Ontario, and it never really hurt the van. Although the rear heater lines would rot out every year, regular maintenance was all that was needed. The A/C stopped working after hitting my second deer, but other than those things, you could run this van through hell and it wouldn't even get a scratch. I even took it muding once! Well done, Kia, you built a bulletproof tank.

Sedona holds road just fine Interior has lots of goodies including first aid kit under seat. Only problem is fuel consumption. On 1600 mile trip to Fla averaged 15 MPG.

Hi there! I previously posted here as FRUGAL DRIVER (see below). I just wanted to share that my van, which I bought in 2007 with 64K miles, is still going strong as a half ton hauler and work van. Today, my wife is taking it 750 miles (and back in three days) to take KID MARK I to university for the first time. We recently had the a/c fixed after some damage was inflicted on a hose by an idiot, but now it's running smoothly again. With the new OBAMA CAFE rules effectively removing small pickups (Chev 10, Ford Ranger) and old vans (ASTRO etc) from the US market, I'm curious to know what you're driving these days? This van can haul a half ton really well and takes abuse if you maintain it well. Just remember to drive it gently. Fun fact: this vehicle was originally built as a light truck for the S. Korean Army (02-06 model). It's tough and reliable!

I really appreciate the design, engineering, and convenience of my Kia Sedona. However, I have had some issues with the quality of components, fuel economy, exterior finish, and service. Unfortunately, the interior panels are not very impact-resistant and the paint finish has some orange peel. The city fuel economy is only 14 mpg and the tires make for a bumpy ride. Additionally, there is a noise from the rear air that Kia has been unable to fix. Despite my complaints to corporate Kia, I have not received a satisfactory response. My car has been experiencing transmission problems since 9,000 miles. Despite the dealership's attempts to fix the issue, it still persists. They claim that the tires are of a different circumference, even though they are marked the same size, and are refusing to fix the transmission. Additionally, the engine had to be replaced just two weeks after the transmission was worked on due to a broken serpentine belt that got into the timing belt. I believe that the dealership is not providing adequate service and my car is in poor condition.

This van has a lot of room inside and the front seats are very comfortable. Although the van gets only 13/mpg, it drove and handled great when not in the shop. However, there are some serious issues with the quality of the interior materials such as plastic that crumbles, carpet and cloth headliner that tear easily. Additionally, I have had to replace all the motor mounts, timing chain, transmission, CV boots, and both power window motors within 4 years. Both sliding doors have also quit working. While the seats are somewhat stiff, they are easy to get in and out of. The van also offers lots of headroom. Although there is some vibration from the road and it can be a bit noisy inside, overall it's a great van.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the van my family purchased back in 12/07. While we did encounter some internal engine issues and had to replace the timing chain/cover, we were relieved to find out that most of the repairs were covered by warranty. It did take a bit longer than expected (about 5 weeks) due to a part that needed to be shipped from Korea, but we were grateful for the coverage. Although we've had some issues, we still think that this van is a pretty good option for those on a budget. Thanks for listening!
