The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.

The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.

First generation (KV-II; 1998)

The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.

In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

Common 2019 Kia Sedona problems

The Kia Sedona, a popular minivan model, has had its share of common problems over the years. While the Sedona is generally considered a reliable vehicle, certain model years have experienced specific issues that have caused concern for owners. Here are some of the most common problems with the Kia Sedona, specifically the 2019 model year, based on complaints from owners:

  • Paint and Rust Issues: The 2019 Sedona has experienced some paint and rust issues, particularly around the door area and on the hood. While this does not affect the drivability of the vehicle, it can turn into a serious issue if the paint coat needs to be re-applied for aesthetic purposes. Additionally, there have been reports of a faulty hood latch that sometimes leaves the hood open, even when drivers have tried closing it.
  • Transmission Column Shift: The Sedona has had issues with the automatic transmission lever and linkage, causing the shift lever to fall out of place. The malfunctioning locking mechanism can cause the shifter to fall out of park mode, posing a rollaway risk. While there was an official recall for this issue in earlier model years, it is still a concern for 2019 Sedona owners.
  • Electrical and Wiring Issues: The 2019 Sedona has experienced some electrical and wiring issues, which can cause problems with the connections and even cause seized A/C compressors. One of the most prominent electric issues is the problem with a malfunctioning alternator, which can sometimes represent a fire hazard. While there was a recall by Kia regarding these electric issues for earlier model years, it is still a concern for 2019 Sedona owners.

In summary, the Kia Sedona, including the 2019 model year, has experienced common problems related to engine stalling, paint and rust issues, transmission column shift, and electrical and wiring issues. While the Sedona is generally considered a reliable vehicle, these issues can cause concern for owners and may require costly repairs.

Is the Kia Sedona reliable?

The severity of repairs is low, and these issues are less frequent than average, so the Sedona is one of the more reliable vehicles on the road.

Do Kia Sedona's have transmission problems?

If you don't routinely and always change your fluids at least every 30,000 miles or so, you may find that your Kia Sedona transmission will quickly slip.

How long do Kia Sedonas last?

With that said, a well-maintained Kia Sedona can typically last between 200,000 to 300,000 miles. Some owners have even reported reaching up to 273,000 miles without dealing with major problems, and there's confidence that it could reach 300,000 miles with proper care.

Does the 2019 Kia Sedona have remote start?

The base package provides you with the ability to remote start by pressing lock 3 times on your existing factory remote, eliminating any need to carry an additional remote. The range from where you can remote start is the distance where you can lock your vehicle from.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-15
  • VIN: KNDMB5C10K6
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: On [XXX] at [XXX] the following incident happen with my 2019 KIA Sedona. The ABS and Traction Control Warning lights came ON when I applied the brakes when approaching a 4 way stop sign intersection, I heard a loud grinding sound from the back of the Sedona. The Sedona took longer to come to a stop, a full vehicle length past the stop bar. I was put at risk by the Sedona being in the intersection, instead of stopping at the stop bar. After clearing the intersection, I pulled over the Sedona, turned it off and then restarted it. Both the ABS and Traction Control Lights came back ON. I called the Jackson Kia Dealer in Cocoa Florida and got an answering machine for the service department. I left a message letting them know about the alarm lights and that I had already has at least 2 ABS modules replaced. I asked for an appointment as soon as possible to fix the problem. I had been told previously by KIA that it was safe to drive, but that I would have manual brakes in the rear and to apply breaks earlier, plus get the Sedona in for repair at the next opportunity for an appointment. As of yet the dealership has not seen the Sedona to diagnose the exact problem and cause. This is when these systems first appeared, and I had no other indications of a problem. The recall began April 8, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia 's number for this recall is SC177.

Negative 2019 Kia Sedona car reviews

    1. I've noticed that the rear wheels tend to slip a bit when starting off on wet or damp roads. 2. I've found that the gas mileage is not quite as good as advertised or as calculated by the instrument panel. Even when using the ECO setting, I've experienced a reduction in mileage of 8% to 14% compared to the computer's figure, and it's considerably less than the EPA estimates. 3. I've noticed that there are at least five blind spots, and unfortunately, the cameras don't eliminate any of them. Finally, I've found that the climate control system can be a bit tricky to use and requires resetting because it changes.

Update at 130K - It seems there are ongoing issues with recalls. It may take some time to get into service and get the power door fixed. Additionally, there is a latest issue with an oil pressure switch located on the top rail, under the plenum, adjacent to the knock sensors. When it leaks, it travels down the rail on top of the engine, drips down and mimics a rear main oil leak when mechanics have it on a rack. However, there is some good news. Kia has sent a letter saying they will fix it for free. Just bring it in to the dealer. If you talk to the dealer, they will be happy to help you. Transmission still slips on takeoff once in a while, then disappears on the next drive. Had a transmission mechanic look at it and they couldn't find anything. Had 3-4 quarts drained and filled twice over the past 30k. Update at 110K - While I may think twice before buying a Kia anytime in the near future, I am confident that the previously fixed (recalled) malfunctioning rear driver's side power door will be fixed again. Now the local dealership tells me it will be December (I'm calling in July) before a recall can be fixed! So I called another Kia dealer 50 miles away and it's even better. They say the car needs to be left with them so they can take a video of the problem with the door and send it to Kia so they can decide if the motor will need replacing or if they will fix it. Then I will need to make an appointment and bring it back. Shocked by 3+ hr estimate for just changing plugs, because the top of the engine needs to be removed along with a lot of connections that make the process complicated/tedious, just to access the rear 3 plugs. However, there are options available. You can get it done for $500+ at the dealer, or $260-$300 at an independent shop.Transmission still clunks into gear occasionally on takeoff, but after a start or two, it disappears. After 94,000 miles, the vehicle has had no service issues other than one front brake job, a battery replacement, and a recall for the sliding door mechanism. The ride is reasonably smooth and quiet with the right tires, but the gas mileage is unimpressive. The vehicle jerks slightly at startup and take-off once in a while, but the dealer couldn't find anything wrong while under warranty. The cockpit may be somewhat cramped for larger drivers, and the seat position can't be rocked forward slightly to ease pressure on legs unless lowered too far. However, the vehicle has faster acceleration and power than most. The screen for the backup camera on the LX is far too small and almost unusable on sunny days. The red instrumentation lights look cheap and are not as attractive or legible as amber. The chrome trim on the dash around the radio is a safety hazard with a lot of glare sometimes when the sun reflects off of it. The cargo utilization is lacking with an overall smaller size and unwieldy seat positioning, especially the middle row. The exterior colors are borderline unattractive. Sometimes, the driver's door does not stay open when exiting, especially on a slight incline. Despite these issues, the vehicle has been reliable and easy to maintain.

  3. Isom Crist 2024-09-06

The air conditioner controls had to be replaced three times, despite the lack of recalls, due to the risk of burning out when using the third or fourth speed in front air conditioner settings, especially in the heat of Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, the guarantee only covered the first repair, leaving me to pay $1,650.00 out of pocket for the two subsequent repairs. As a result of this experience, I have decided not to purchase another Kia in the future.

We've had our 2017 Sedona for almost a year now and have put about 12,000 miles on it. This is our third Sedona, and we've had other vehicles in between. We liked the first two, but they were both the older body style and I never was completely crazy about it. However, when this new style came out, we were excited to give it a try. We really like the body style, but it's hard to compare it to our previous vehicle after driving it for three years. There were a few reasons we went back to Kia after leasing a Toyota Sienna, and I'll discuss those shortly. One of the main reasons we went with the Sedona was the value. We were able to get out the door for less than $37000, including all taxes, fees, and negative equity due to purchasing a year-end model. Compared to other van models, the price was several thousand lower. However, the gas mileage is a bit disappointing. No matter how easy I drive it, I can't get more than 16 around town and 20 on the highway. This to me is unacceptable for a mini-van. If I had it to do over, I would consider other options. In terms of performance, it's not the best. It's a bit sluggish upon acceleration, and the computer system can be glitchy. However, we still enjoy the Sedona and find it reliable for our needs.Although we haven't been stranded yet, I have noticed that the exhaust emits a strong smell of gas and is always thick, even on hot days. I plan to mention this at my oil change tomorrow. On the bright side, the Sedona has a stylish interior and exterior. However, compared to our previous vehicle, the Toyota Sienna, the Sedona has less leg room in the back and significantly less cargo room behind the third row. One of the reasons we chose the Sedona this time around was because the second row seats fold straight up to the front row, providing more cargo room for larger items. In contrast, with the Sienna, the second row seats had to be completely removed, which was no easy task. In terms of quality, it's just typical. Cars are being made with cheaper materials overall, regardless of whether it's a Kia or a Toyota. As for comfort, it seems to be pretty comfortable for everyday commuting. We will be going on a road trip soon, so we'll see how it fares for longer rides. Although I do dread the shortage of packing room, we'll have to buy the cross bars for the roof rails to be able to take what we need. Overall, while we wouldn't buy this van again, we appreciate its stylish design and practical features. However, in our comparison of the two vans, the Sienna outshines the Sedona by miles, even with the second row inconvenience.

I bought a brand new 2017 Kia Sedona in June of that year and was excited to put the first miles on it. Unfortunately, in March of 2020, I was informed that my tires were cupping at only 36k miles, despite my regular maintenance and tire rotations. I replaced the tires in July of 2020, including an alignment, but was disappointed to learn that my tires are cupping again. This is my third Kia, and I have never had any issues with the previous two Sorento models. I tend to agree with the technician that this may be a design flaw in this particular model. I am extremely upset that my tires are going bad again after only 8 months (technically 6 due to COVID).

Positive 2019 Kia Sedona car reviews

It takes a considerable amount of strength to move the second and third row seats, especially when stowing them. The interior lighting on controls and door unlocks could use some improvement. The lighting in the cargo area is not sufficient. I am concerned about the automatic dimming of the headlights at slow speeds, especially since I live in deer country. The voice response for navigation and Bluetooth seems a bit slow. Although the salespeople at Crown Kia in Tyler were not at their best, they did replace some missing items in the car, such as the removable light in the cargo area, which was good. I am pleased with the second-row seats on tracks, which are perfect for my long legs. Overall, I am more satisfied with the Kia than my previous three Lexus RX350s.

Hi there! Unfortunately, it seems that the auto hatch release is not available on the Ex model.

It's only been a few weeks, so let's see. I'm glad to say that I'm enjoying it so far!

Buying this vehicle involved two of the dealer's salespeople, Luis Vazquez and Sam Hackett. Luis was our first contact and he showed us the vehicle, but due to medical problems, he asked us to complete the sale with Sam. Both of these gentlemen were very professional and answered all of our questions. The sale was completed with no problems. This was a great experience in buying a newer vehicle. I highly recommend this dealership.
