The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

The AC system in the 2014 Kia Sedona is also prone to problems. The idler and tensioner pulleys on the Sedona's AC alternator belt are known for rapid wear and may break entirely, causing the AC to be excessively noisy when turned on. The condenser is also known for failing, resulting in the air conditioning not working or only working on certain settings.
The engine is prone to misfiring regularly, often caused by cracked ignition coils. If only one of the coils has cracked, it's a sign that the others are also on the way out. The output sensor that sits at the top of the transmission is also prone to premature wear, causing the gears to drop into 3rd when driving on the motorway.
The brakes in the 2014 Kia Sedona are also prone to issues. - Summary: The sliding doors of the Van do not stay closed. We could be driving down the road when they open and the chime starts going off. We find this is commonly associated with the scenerios right after the auto-close mechanism closes the door. (This is another issue as it does not reliably close the door.) To resolve the door suddenly opening situation, we have to stop, put the vehicle in park, and usually end up having to have the driver or front passenger get out of the car, wait for the auto-close system to get close to closing and then slam the back end of the door into place to get it to hold. We did try to take it to the Kia Dealership in Ogden Utah but the service manager there said he could not reliably replicate it so could not fix it. Apparently slamming the door is considered a viable alternative to the auto-close mechanism. We were told it is not a defect and that these things happen. It should be noted for other drivers, that the auto-close mechanism does appear to be closed. The door sensor does not chime to give warning that it is not seated all the way. Instead, as mentioned, we will be driving down the road when the door will rattle and open a little ways and the chime immediately starts going off. You will slow down and it the chime will stop, but once you pull over and take a look you will see the back end of the door is open a centimeter or so. Further to this point, if you dont immediately pull over, the door can pop open the rest of the way. What is most concerning is that it can happen anytime. I ahve not found any logical rhyme or reason for the issue. However I have had kids sitting near the door when the door opened on me. Luckily the seatbelts kept them in the car even though we were caught off-guard by the suddeness of the issue.

NOT ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR IN A STATIONARY POSITION EVEN WITH POWER OFF; LEAVING THE CAR UNUSABLE. WHEN I TURN THE POWER OFF AND TRY TO CLOSE MANUALLY AFTER THIS TYPE OF EPISODE. IT WON'T LATCH SOMETIMES AS WELL. SOMETIMES IT WILL RESET IT SELF. THIS TOO HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. KIA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE; HAS SENT OUT A LETTER TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR THIS. HOWEVER, IF I CANNOT REPRODUCE THESE THINGS FOR THEM AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT; THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY EXTENSION TO MAKE THE REPAIR BECAUSE I CANNOT REPRODUCE THE DANGEROUS SCENARIO RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. THE OIL APPEARED TO BE LOW BUT NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON PRIOR. WE PROCEEDED TO GET OIL AND AFTER WE PUT IT IN AND TRIED TO DRIVE IT THERE WAS A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND SO WE DID NOT PROCEED FORWARD. WE CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TOW US TO THE CLOSEST KIA DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS KOONS OF WOODBRIDGE, VA WHICH WAS 10 MINUTES AWAY. AFTER WE GOT IT THERE THEY WERE ABLE TO START IT AND MOVE IT INTO THE GARAGE. WE TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND THAT WE FILLED THE OIL, THAT THERE WERE NO SENSOR ALERTS BEFORE THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. AFTER THEY LOOKED INTO THE VEHICLE THEY TOLD US THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY OIL LEAKS BUT TO DIAGNOSIS IT THEY'D HAVE TO TEAR THE ENGINE DOWN. THEY ADVISED THAT THE DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR MIGHT BE COVERED BY KIA'S POWER TRAIN WARRANTY BUT IF ANY SLUDGE WAS FOUND IT WOULD VOID THE WARRANTY. THEY ESTIMATED THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR TO THE ENGINE TO BE $10,000 DOLLARS. THEY BELIEVED THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND TWO KEY PARTS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. WE OPTED TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN TO KOONS KIA IN WOODBRIDGE AND PURCHASED A 2018 SORENTO LEFT OVER DUE TO THE TIME IT WOULD TAKE TO DIAGNOSIS THE ENGINE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE COSTS. THIS WAS THE FIRST DAY OF OUR VACATION.

DOES NOT TELL YOU WHEN AN ACCOUNT IS CREATED. CAN NOT TURN OFF THE GPS SYSTEM AND UVA CANNOT TELL ME HOW MANY ACCOUNTS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH A VIN. NOR CAN THEY ERASE THEM. SO THEORETICALLY EVERY PERSON WHO HAS STEPPED FOOT IN YOUR CAR - WEITHER IT'S A VALET, TIRE CHANGER OR A PREVIOUS OWNER/DRIVER CAN MONITOR YOUR LOCATION AND DRIVING HISTORY. KIA CANNOT GIVE ME A GOOD ANSWER ON HOW TO STOP IT OR RESET IT. I'M UNCOMFORTABLE SELLING THE CAR BECAUSE I'M AFRAID SOMEONE WILL BUY IT FOR THEIR TEEN. MONITORS CAR- THEN WHEN CARS OFF. - Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:HOOD:LATCH
- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Kia Sedona vehicles manufactured from June 15, 2005, through April 04, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch may bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.
- Consequence: If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners and dealers will replace the secondary hood latch or clean and lubricate the latch, depending on the vehicle's location and the condition of the latch. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on July 27, 2016. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall number is SC134.

This is my second Kia Sedona, and I love them both. Minimal service, and no breakdowns....what's not to love! It's a great people mover and can double as a cargo hauler. I plan on getting another one when this one is another year old.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with the Kia Sedona. Even though I'm not a soccer mom, I did a lot of research before deciding on this mini van. After reading reviews for several different makes and models, and hearing about a friend's Kia Rio that lasted an impressive 346,200 miles, I was swayed towards the Sedona. And I have to say, it's been a surprisingly great family ride! It may not be a Honda or a Toyota, but it definitely holds its own. The only downside is that Kia has decided to discontinue production of the Sedona after 2012.

It's not my old Honda Odyssey, but it comes close. The ride is very comfortable and the controls are well laid out. The electronics are very good given the age of the car. It's a solid car for the value.

Hey there! Have you considered doing your homework before making a purchase? The Kia Sedona is a great option if you're looking for a van that won't break the bank. Other vans may have more features, but they also come with a higher price tag and potential maintenance issues. Just something to keep in mind!

SECURITY ALERT - The doors of this 2014 KIA Sedona EX unlock incessantly when loading cargo or passengers, which is very unsafe. VIN # KNDMH4C77E6554957. There are four scenarios in which the door auto-unlock safety issue arises with this car: 1. When loading cargo or passengers, many people like to warm up the car. However, when doing so with the car in park and the engine warming up, all doors, including the tailgate door, auto-unlock. When the driver relocks the doors with the door button, all doors, including the tailgate door, auto-unlock again. When the driver relocks them again, the InstrModule computer unlocks all doors, including the tailgate door, and this hysteria/odyssey repeats over and over until the driver gives up. The computer wins, and the family is left insecure and unsafe. Eventually, this horrible feature/non-feature will cause someone to be robbed, kidnapped, carjacked, or worse. It has probably already happened many times since a criminal only has to wait at any parking area and listen for the click telling him that the car is now unsafe and easy to rob or carjack. Please tell KIA to do the cheap $10.00 fix (yeah, ten dollars for a Korean programmer to change the program and flash over to all dealers) and save lives and reduce crime! By helping, you are also recorded in heaven as helping save lives! 2. The second problem area is when the car is put in park, and all doors unlock, requiring the driver to relock them. 3. Sometimes when the key is taken out, all the doors auto-unlock again, requiring the driver to re-lock them again. 4. Whenever the driver enters the car and starts it again, all the doors auto-unlock again, requiring the driver to re-lock the doors. This goes on every time the car is most vulnerable to crime (when it's stopped/stationary) and any of the four conditions above are existing, which makes it like a second job to use the car. My car is sitting in the driveway until the factory fixes this software problem.I'm driving my old car and it's such a relief because I don't have to constantly worry about whether the doors are locked or not. When I lock the doors, they stay locked! It's amazing!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some information with you about the Kia Sedona van. While it may not be the most comfortable option out there, I wanted to let you know that there are some things to keep in mind. The back seats may not be as comfortable as you'd like, and the front seats don't have lumbar support. Additionally, the motor may not last past 150,000 miles, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of this. Unfortunately, there is no warranty available for this vehicle. The car did not meet my expectations in terms of quality. The seat material is thin, the electronics are unresponsive and unpredictable, and the brakes are a safety hazard that Kia has not taken responsibility for. Small pebbles from the road can get into the calipers and impede proper braking application, which Kia considers an environmental situation rather than a design flaw. Unfortunately, the dealer is also unwilling to cover the cost of repairs. Despite having only 1800 miles on the car, it has already required two repairs. If you are accustomed to driving a well-built vehicle, you may be disappointed with this car.
