2008 Kia Sedona problems
The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

Common 2008 Kia Sedona problems
The Kia Sedona, also known as the Kia Carnival, has been a popular minivan for many years. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems.
One of the most frequent issues reported by owners of the Kia Sedona is related to the sliding door latch actuators. Some of these vehicles are prone to malfunctioning sliding door latches, which can cause the doors to not open or close properly. This issue may require the replacement of the latch actuators
Another common problem with the Kia Sedona is related to the oil pressure switch, also known as the oil pressure sensor. Vehicles equipped with the 3.5-liter engine are prone to develop oil leaks over time due to the malfunctioning of these components. The labor cost to replace this part is high because it requires removing the intake manifold to gain access to it
The air intake hose in some Kia Sedonas is prone to cracking and tearing over time, causing unmetered air to enter the engine. This issue can cause hard starting conditions, rough idling, and hesitation under acceleration. Installing a new air intake hose can solve the problem
The valve cover gaskets in the six-cylinder engines of the Kia Sedona are prone to developing oil leaks over time. These gaskets need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the engine
The front sway bar and links in some Kia Sedonas are prone to experiencing rapid wear, causing suspension noises when driving over bumps. These components need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the suspension system
The bearings of the serpentine belt tensioner and idler pulleys in the Kia Sedona are prone to becoming noisy between 80,000 and 130,000 miles. These components need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the engine
The front lower control arms in Kia Sedonas driven in snowy climates are prone to rust and breakage. These components need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the suspension system
The front wall bearings in some Kia Sedonas are prone to becoming noisy between 120,000 and 150,000 miles. These components need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the engine
The steering tie rod ends in some Kia Sedonas are prone to experiencing rapid wear, causing alignment issues and uneven tire wear. These components need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the steering system
The water pump in some Kia Sedonas equipped with 3.5 and 3.8-liter six-cylinder engines is prone to developing coolant leaks between 130,000 and 170,000 miles. These components need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the engine
In addition to these common problems, the Kia Sedona has also been known to have issues with the fuel pump. The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the gas tank to the engine, and if it fails, the vehicle will not run. Fuel pump failure is a common problem in many vehicles, and the Kia Sedona is no exception.
In summary, the Kia Sedona has several common problems, including malfunctioning sliding door latches, oil leaks, air intake hose cracking, valve cover gasket leaks, suspension issues, and fuel pump failure. These issues can be costly to repair, and it is essential to address them promptly to prevent further damage to the vehicle.

- Summary: I brought this car (owned by by son and his wife, used by me) in March 2022 re recall SC186 to the Kia dealership in Berwyn, IL and they said the new part was needed, and they'd call me when it was in for me to return to have it replaced, but they never did call to say the part was in. -- I called various times through August 2022 to check, and they gave me a runaround. I called Kia customer service on 8/25, and their records showed that the Berwyn Kia claimed they did the recall on 04/08/22 -- AND THEY LIED - THEY NEVER HAD ME COME IN TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED! And because the recall is listed as done, no other dealership can replace the part! I filed complaint #[XXX] with Kia customer service - they said they would inform Berwyn Kia of my complaint, but might or might not get an answer from the dealer. I guess I will return to Berwyn Kia to confront them on this matter -- but I wonder how often they say they do recall repairs but don't in fact do them!!!! Can you do anything to help?? Who else should I complaint to about this? INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

- VIN: KNDMB233486
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: [XXX] owned a 2008 Kia Sedona minivan, VIN #[XXX]. This was his only vehicle at the time. On or about April 26, 2021, [XXX] heard a loud noise coming from the driveway and went outside to investigate. The van was engulfed in flames, mainly in the engine compartment. He attempted to put the fire out himself. His neighbor called the Pinellas Park fire department who responded and put out the fire. The vehicle was a total loss. The van had been parked for approximately five hours after he used it earlier that day to pick up children from school The spontaneous vehicle fire was a serious safety risk, and he is fortunate to have not lost his home in the fire along with the vehicle. The day before the fire, the ABS indicator light on the dash came on. He made an appointment to have the van serviced on April 27, but the fire destroyed the vehicle before it could be looked at. Shortly after this happened, [XXX] learned of Manufacturer Recall Number SC186; NHTSA Recall Number 20V088. He was never notified by Kia North America, before or after the fire which destroyed the vehicle. [XXX] has opened case number [XXX] with and was assured that Kia would be providing reimbursement for the Kia Sedona vehicle he had to replace. Kia North America requested pictures of the fire damaged vehicle, which he sent to them. He offered to allow Kia to inspect the wreckage of the vehicle, but no action was ever taken despite assurances that Kia would send a representative to inspect the vehicle. In September 2021, Kia North America stopped responding to Mr. Brackett, and no longer returns his or my communication. If the NHTSA requires any more information, please contact my office. /s [XXX] Florida Bar #[XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

- Summary: WHILE WORKING ON MY 2008 KIA SEDONA, I DISCOVERED SEVERE PERFORATING CORROSION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM. I DISCOVERED THAT KIA HAD INITIATED A VOLUNTARY RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V387000. I CONTACTED KIA AT 1-800-333-4542 TO SEE IF THEY WOULD APPLY RECALL SC133 TO MY CAR EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT IN ONE OF THE IDENTIFIED STATES (ALTHOUGH VIRGINIA DOES USE ROAD SALT IN WINTER). AFTER I CALLED THEM TWICE AND SENT THE ATTACHED PICTURES THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T COVER IT AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE IT AND SEND THEM THEIR OPINION FOR THEM TO RECONSIDER. I DO NOT THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING OUT OF POCKET TO VERIFY WHAT THE PICTURES CLEARLY SHOW. THIS CORROSION COULD RESULT A BROKEN CONTROL ARM AND RESULT IN THE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. PLEASE CONTACT KIA FOR ME OR CHANGE THE CAMPAIGN TO MANDATORY AND EXPAND IT TO ALL STATES. *TR

- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 Kia Sedona vehicles manufactured from June 15, 2005, through August 14, 2012 originally sold in, or currently registered in Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Rhode Island, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, the front lower control arms may break due to corrosion resulting from prolonged exposure to salty environments.
- Consequence: A broken control arm can result in the loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will notify owners and dealers will inspect the degree of corrosion of the front lower control arms, and will either rustproof or replace them, free of charge. The recall began on December 20, 2013. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall number is SC100.
- Manufacturer: Kia Motors Corporation
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Kia Motors Corporation (Kia) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Rondo, model year 2007-2011 Sedona, Sorento and Sportage, model year 2010-2011 Soul, model year 2008-2011 Optima, model year 2010 Forte, model year 2007-2009 Amanti, and model year 2009 Borrego vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Kia recalled 623,658 model year 2007-2010 Rondo and Sportage, model year 2007-2011 Sorento, model year 2007 Sedona, model year 2010-2011 Soul, and model year 2011 Optima vehicles. In September 2013, Kia informed the agency that it was adding an additional 356,719 vehicles to this campaign. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 980,377. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of PARK without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Kia will send an interim notification to owners in May 2013. When parts are available, owners will receive a second notification and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's recall campaign number is SC098.

Best seats and ride. I can drive 350 miles and my back doesn't hurt. The controls are very convenient. All in all, this is the best vehicle I have ever owned, and I have had many. Minnesota owner.

Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your twins! It sounds like you made a great choice with the Kia Sedona. Your father gave you some excellent advice, and it's wonderful to hear that you were pleasantly surprised by the Kia's performance. The Sedona offers a lot of value for your money, especially with the rebates, and it's a comfortable ride compared to some of the other vans on the market. It's great to hear that you would recommend the Sedona to anyone looking for a minivan, and even to those looking for a car. As a former Nissan person, it's always good to keep an open mind and explore other brands. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Kia Sedona!

I'm so glad to hear that the vehicle has great 'get up and go', even though it's a larger size. The storage options are fantastic, and it's great that all the seats can be easily adjusted. The exterior is also very sharp and sporty, especially with the roof racks. However, there were a couple of issues we noticed during our drive home from the dealer. We heard a bit of a rattle or vibration in both sliding doors, which got worse over time. We also noticed that the CD player wasn't working, but I'm sure that's an easy fix. We're heading back to the dealer tomorrow to get everything sorted out. Overall, we're still really excited about our new vehicle!

In May 2007, I rented a car and was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a 2008 Kia Sedona for free. It was the best test drive I've ever had and my wife fell in love with the van. When we were finally in the market to purchase a vehicle in March 2009, the Sedona was the only one that came to mind. We love everything about it, from the engine (same size as the 98 z34 Monte Carlo, V6 3.8l) to the nice acceleration and handling. Now, my wife and I argue over who gets to drive when we go places. It's just that enjoyable!

You're kidding me? This van is amazing! It's safe, roomy, and has everything you need. It drives like a champ and I can't believe I got a new van like this for under 17k. I bought the leftover 08 with only 30 miles on it. I truly believe that this van is better than the 30k Hondas and other similar models. It looks great, feels great, and you just feel safe and confident driving it.

This car wasn't what I expected. Although it looked good in the pictures, it was quite different in person. It's wider than I thought, but that's just my personal preference. I didn't like the blueish color, but that's just my opinion. If you're considering this vehicle, you might want to explore other color options. The interior wasn't my favorite either. The fabric used for the seats wasn't very comfortable, but that's just my personal preference. Leg room and storage space were also limited, but that's just something to keep in mind. The vehicle had a stiff ride and jerked every few seconds, but that's just my experience. You might want to test drive it yourself to see if it's a good fit for you. Ultimately, I would recommend exploring other vehicle options, but that's just my opinion.

I purchased a Kia Sedona 2007 based on my positive past experiences with Samsung products and the enticing 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Unfortunately, the vehicle broke down within a year and it took the dealership 4 months to identify the issue. During this time, they initially accused me of using the wrong type of gas from Costco, Wal-Mart or Quick Trip. It was a stressful experience dealing with their representatives, but I hope that you have a better experience.
