2016 Honda Hr-v problems

honda logo

The Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda over three generations.

The first generation HR-V was based on the Honda Logo. It was marketed from 1999 to 2006 in Europe, Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets – and featured three doors (1999–2003) or five doors (1999–2006). The two configurations were internally designated GH2 and GH4 respectively.

After a seven-year hiatus, Honda reintroduced the nameplate for the second generation HR-V, based on the third-generation Honda Fit. Production began in late 2013 for the Japanese domestic market as the Honda Vezel (Japanese: ホンダ・ヴェゼル, Hepburn: Honda Vezeru), while production started in 2015 for North America, Australia, Brazil and select Asian markets as the HR-V. Apart from Japan, the model is also sold as the Vezel in China.

For the third-generation model, the nameplate is split between two different vehicles, one for the global market (sold as the Vezel in Japan), and a larger model based on the eleventh-generation Civic destined for North America and China. The latter model is sold outside those markets as the Honda ZR-V.

According to Honda, the name "HR-V" stands for "Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle", while the name "Vezel" is coined from "bezel", the oblique faces of a cut gem, with the "V" for "vehicle".

Common 2016 Honda Hr-v problems

The Honda HR-V, a compact SUV produced by the Japanese automaker, has been a popular choice among car buyers since its introduction in 2015. However, like any vehicle, the 2016 Honda HR-V has its fair share of common problems reported by owners.

One of the most frequently reported issues is related to the car's windows, specifically the window gaskets. The window gaskets may not seal properly, leading to water leaks and potential damage to the interior of the vehicle. This problem may require replacement of the affected gaskets to rectify the issue.

Another common problem with the 2016 Honda HR-V is related to the paint quality. Many owners have reported issues with the paint peeling or bubbling, particularly on the roof and in areas where the paint meets the bodywork. This can lead to an unsightly appearance and may require repainting to fix. Repainting costs can vary but can be quite expensive, depending on the extent of the damage.

The Honda HR-V's accelerator has also been a source of frustration for some owners. There have been reports of the vehicle suddenly accelerating when the throttle is lightly applied, which can be dangerous, especially in heavy traffic or when parking. Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the HR-V slowing down unexpectedly while driving at highway speeds, even when the throttle is applied. These issues may require a dealership to diagnose and fix, with potential repair costs ranging from a simple ECU update to replacing parts in the engine bay.

The continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the 2016 Honda HR-V has also been a source of problems for some owners. There have been reports of slipping, a noisy transmission, and even total power loss at highway speeds. These issues have been attributed to faulty programming in the transmission control unit. Honda has issued a service bulletin to fix the problem and has extended the warranty up to 150,000 miles or seven years for the 2016 to 2020 Honda HR-V models.

The brakes in the 2016 Honda HR-V have also been a cause for concern for some owners. There have been reports of a spongy brake pedal, which has been attributed to excess hydrogen in the brake fluid caused by a manufacturing error in the rear brake caliper pistons. This issue has led to recalls for certain model years, including the 2016 Honda HR-V

Finally, some owners have reported issues with the headlights in the 2016 Honda HR-V. The halogen reflector-type lamps have been criticized for poor performance, with both low and high beams only illuminating half the suggested range. This issue has been rectified in later model years, with improved headlights becoming available in the 2019 model year.

In summary, the 2016 Honda HR-V has several common problems reported by owners, including issues with the window gaskets, paint quality, accelerator, continuously variable transmission, brakes, and headlights. While these issues can be frustrating and potentially expensive to fix, it is important to note that Honda has taken steps to address many of these problems, including issuing recalls and extending warranties for affected models.

What are the problems with the 2016 Honda HR-V?

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

What is the most common problem with Honda HR-V?

When it comes to Honda HR-V problems, one of the most widely reported issues pertains to the car's windows, specifically the window gaskets. The window gasket is the piece of rubber that runs along the window between the glass and the body of the vehicle. It helps to seal the window as well as hold it in place.

Is there a recall on Honda HR-V 2016?

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Acura MDX, 2017-2018 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda HR-V and Honda Odyssey, and 2016 Honda HR-V vehicles. The rear brake caliper pistons may have an insufficient coating, causing gas pockets to form, reducing brake performance.

  • VIN: 3CZRU6H59GM
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: Subject: Airbag System Issue - Honda HRV 2016 (Rebuilt Title) Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a potential safety issue with the airbag system in my 2016 Honda HRV, which has a rebuilt title. On [XXX] after returning to my vehicle from shopping at a Costco parking lot, I noticed that the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light had turned on. To the best of my knowledge, there were no impacts or collisions with my vehicle during the time it was parked, and I have not experienced any issues with the airbag system prior to this incident. However, the sudden appearance of the airbag warning light concerns me about the functionality and safety of the airbag system. Here are the details of my vehicle: •Make/Model: Honda HRV 2016 •VIN: [XXX] •Title: Rebuilt I would appreciate any guidance on whether there are known issues or recalls regarding the airbag system in this model, or any recommended steps I should take to address this concern. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your assistance. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-06-01
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H54GM
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The odometer cluster began flickering and froze up disallowing driver the ability to view mileage, fuel level, and other maintenance information. The safety of all involved will be severely impacted if car runs out of gas during trip. The problem is cited in a number of online posts related to this make and model. The problem is too expensive to diagnose and or repair at a dealership. The problem increases with outside environmental temperature changes. cluster works occasionally if driver taps odometer cluster screen. One online post traces the problem to a soldering failure inside the cluster.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-09
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H76GM
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I purchases my 2016 Honda HRV in 2019, used from . On [XXX] driving home my cars lights started lighting up like a Xmas tress and it sounded like something was wrong with my transmission. After bringing it to a local mechanic in Hopkins, they stated it was a CVT transmission issue and it would need to go to a Honda dealership, so we brought it to Luther Hopkins Honda. During this time my husband and I did some research on the transmission for the 2016-2020 Honda HRV's, and apparently starting in June of 2021, a bulletin and recall was sent out specifically pertaining to this issue of early deterioration of the CVT drive belt, they extended the warranty to 7 years/150k, whichever comes first. There was a software update that should have been done, and also if the belt did fail they would fix the issue. I NEVER received any of these bulletins or recall notices in the mail. My car IS registered. When I previously owned a Ford I got recall notices all the time. Luther Hopkins Honda (Andres Decaroli) on 8/13 said YES the transmission problem with my car is due to the CVT recall/issue, but because my car was 1 year out of the extended warranty Honda may not fix the transmission. Which out of pocket would cost me $8600! The next day Wednesday [XXX], a service director named Caroline texted me stating they sent the request to Honda, and hope to hear something Wed night or Thurs, and they will "fight the good fight for you". I never did hear anything on Wed or Thurs, and on Friday I texted her and tried to call her to get any info, and each time it went to her VM. I also tried to get in contact with Andres as well with no luck, Friday night I left a message prior to them closing with a manager named Michelle. NO one called me back. On Saturday 8/17 I called AGAIN demanded someone call me back to give me some form of update. Finally a manager named Justin called me, and stated that Caroline was out on Friday (no one told us this). I want Honda to honor the recall. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-01
  • VIN: 3CZRU5H3XGM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: The problem started after sitting and talking on a phone with car running while waiting for groceries. About a week later, I started having on and off electrical system issues. and all the lights came on the dashboard with ABS as the main one. If I locked my trunk over and over it would go away. During this time, I got locked in my car and out of my car. The key would not work properly. The trunk would not lock properly. The brakes would get stuck and I could not release them. The car would not move. This happened on and off for about two weeks. I took it to my mechanic. He ran the diagnostic test and nothing came back. He charged the battery and the problem went away for a couple of weeks. The problem started again and was especially frightening when I could not get out of my car. I took it to the dealer. They told me I needed new locks for the trunk, the door and that the car needed a new computer for the ABS. I told them how is that possible. My mechanic did not find an issue and my car at that time didn't even have 100,000 miles and was a Honda. I switched from Nissan with transmission issues at 130,000 miles to a Honda which has great safety and performance reviews. They said there was no recall. I do not understand how a car with less than 100,000 miles has all of these safety issues that can trap me in the car and not allow me to brake properly at high speeds. I have done research online and find there are many complaints about the computer system ABS sensor online and have heard this from a second mechanic who indicated he was dealing with the same issue for another customer. He disabled my ABS system so I would not continue to have braking issues where it holds or does not seem to release properly, where there are on and off electrical issues with locks, locking, phone, etc. And the Landmark Honda dealer in Alexandria VA wants to charge 3000 for a new computer for a car that is supposed to be safe and reliable and does not even have 100,000 miles.

  • Summary: Paint recall expired. I have owned my vehicle since new, production date is 12/2015 with about 82,000 miles. It has been serviced regularly at the Honda dealership since new, my information has never changed. I have never been notified personally, phone call, text, email or regular mail that my vehicle had a recall for paint. The pictures on the NHTSA web site matches mine exactly. Honda America says that the recall covers my vehicle but it has expired. Is this fair when I have never been notified?

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-02
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H72GM
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2016 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 21-046. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 107,000.

  • VIN: 3CZRU6H70GM
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I had the push start button replaced approximately 2 years ago due to the part failing and the car being extremely hard to start. This was covered by Honda (not sure if it was an actual recall). Now I am having the exact same issue again. This is extremely dangerous as I leave work late at night and alone. I am tired of constantly being stranded and it taking several minutes to get my car started. Their replacement part has failed just like the original part did.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-25
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H53GM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Whenever it is cold, 45 degrees or colder, the right front display goes black. This is the display that gives fuel in fuel tank amount, mileage, and rpm. The display stays black until the car heats up, and this can be as long a 20-30 minutes. This is a dangerous situation, because you do not know how much fuel is in your tank. Additionally, if it turns out that you have low fuel, you risk running out of gas and being stuck in cold weather. Other issues can occur as well. This problem is widely reported online, and Honda has apparently done nothing. I went to my local Honda dealer and spoke to two people. The first one brushed me off and treated me as if it was "too bad." The second person was nicer, acknowledged that she had heard of the problem. Further, this apparently affects latter HRV's as well. Please do something and make Honda fix this known problem.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-04-12
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H53GM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: Push start/stop button was noting working properly (this had a recall and was replaced). However after it was repaired, I noticed the right-sided gas gauge with service repair numbers, milage etc is not working properly; the gas guage and service repair codes disappear and/or are scrambled. I took this to the Honda dealership in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and was told by the service advisor (Drew Mechley) that their mechanic said he doesn't think it is related to the start/stop button repair but this is a common probelm seen with HR-Vs. I also found multiple forums with people experiencing the same issue. Here is one of the forums [XXX] . I am concerned this is a safety issue as I cannot see when my gas is out and cannot see when a service code displays for needed maintenance that could damage the vehicle if it is not completed. Was told over the that it is likely an electrical panel issue in the dashboard display (they did not put this in the service report as they wanted additional money for further diagnostic which I did not complete). I worry that the electrical issue could eventually affect the speed gauge on the dashboard. Due to this being a common issue seen in the HR-V with both consumers and Honda mechanics, I feel a recall should be issued. Thank you for looking into this, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-18
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H53GM
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: After a rain storm, I noticed that the trunk door of my Honda HRV was filled with water. I could tell that it had a large amount of water in it because I could hear the water sloshing when driving. I also saw water slowly dripping from the trunk door when I opened it. I could tell that there was a lot more water in the door, but there was no way for me to drain it. In addition to having water in my trunk door, I found that the water had also filled in the spare tire well. Upon researching the issue, I have found that this is a common issue with my make and model as many people on a forum reported the same issue. I believe this is a safety issue because it can cause mold problems which is a health hazard. It can also cause damage to the trunk door and electrical components. In addition, water filling in the spare tire well could cause issues with the spare tire and potentially make it unusable. I took my car to the Honda service center and was told that this is a known problem for my make and model, and that the rubber around the tail light deteriorated. Their solution was to replace the tail lights, which would cost over a thousand dollars. Although I understand that rubber can deteriorate, this issue is not found on most cars and is specific to my model. The car should be designed to drain water and not have its parts fill up with water if the rubber has deteriorated.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-05
  • VIN: 3CZRU5H77GM
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I was driving to work on the freeway when my CVT belt failed. It was very scary. My vehicle lost power and did not want to continue driving. This was scary on the freeway going approximately 65-70mph. At the time this occurred the check engine light came on, the brake light came on, the brake system light came on, and it was flashing “park”. This was really scary because none of these lights were on when I started my vehicle that morning and up until this issue occurred my vehicle was driving fine, no issues, no warning lights and no other symptoms indicating a problem. Losing power on the busy freeway where all other vehicles were traveling just as fast if not faster than me could have been very dangerous and this should be considered a safety concern by Honda. The vehicle was diagnosed by Honda and confirmed CVT belt failure within the transmission. There is an active recall for this issue but my VIN is not included. I’ve been told by Honda that they recommend replacing the transmission.

  • VIN: 3CZRU6H30GM
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: On two separate occasions during February this has occurred. While at a stop sign with the brake floored the engine revved and the car started to slowly inch forward. Later in the month, at a convenience store, before shifting into park the brake was thoroughly depressed and the engine once again revved and the car started to inch forward. It only stopped when I pushed on the brake with all my might. The car had had its yearly inspection in January.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-03-07
  • VIN: 3CZRU5H76GM
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Our 2016 Honda HR-V experienced a significant issue when the fuel pump unexpectedly failed, causing the car to stall while driving uphill over an overpass. Thankfully, this incident occurred in town. It could have happened while driving on the interstate, which would have posed a severe safety risk to our family. We promptly had the Honda HR-V towed to our local Honda dealership for diagnosis and repair, where we were presented with a bill totaling over $900, including sales tax, for replacing the fuel pump. Upon further reflection, I am concerned as to why this fuel pump failure was not included in any recalls or notifications. I am aware that certain fuel pumps in other Honda HR-Vs and models have been subject to recalls due to similar issues, and I am concerned as to why the fuel pump in this 2016 HR-V was not addressed proactively. There were no warning signs, no warning signals, and no warning symptoms before the fuel pump failure.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-26
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H55GM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Incident happened one time. Starting car in cold weather (around 25 degrees) after it hadn't been driven in 2 days. The odometer/gas display was black at start up. After a few minutes the gauge lights came on but the digital display was gibberish. I started to drive and once the car warmed up after several minutes the digital display was working as it should and recording milage and acceleration/deceleration speed. My mechanic hooked up the car and no codes were showing a malfunction. Many other folks in the Honda forums have this exact issue. I'm driving this car on a road trip and am concerned something dangerous could occur. For now I will manually/mentally record mileage to ensure I dont run out of gas and praying this isnt a large electrical short issue

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-19
  • VIN: 3CZRU6H56GM
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: I was driving on the interstate in cruise, the car engine started revving hard. My speed jumped up to 85mph. Then all of a sudden the vehicle jerked hard and I lost all acceleration. The car rapidly decelerated. Then, the power steering, check engine, vehicle stability assist, electric parking brake, and low tire pressure lights all came on. As well as the gear indicator was unable to show if I was in drive, park, or neutral. The vehicle became very sluggish and started stuttering I had to carefully navigate between other cars flying past me until I was able to get to the side of the road, I was almost hit 3 times, once by a semi-truck. Once I got it to the side of the road I was unable to get the car to move at all. The engine would rev but the car would not move. The car was towed to the local Honda dealer in Evansville, IN. The dealership said that the CVT transmission belt had shattered and that the transmission needed to be replaced. I asked them about the TSB Number: [XXX]. They stated that I am out of the 7-year / 150k mile extended warranty so it is going to cost $7,662 to replace it. The vehicle has only 72,000 on it. I could have been killed or severely injured when this happened on the interstate. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-12-21
  • VIN: 3CZRU5H37GM
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: I was driving the car home from work and all of the warning lights on the dashboard came on- the check engine light, tire pressure light, traction control light, brake warning light, and the park emergency brake light. The "park" sign and p/r/d light lights were flashing. The car would not accelerate past 35 miles without it kicking back. I was terrified to drive the car on the interstate due to the acceleration kick back. I had to take a longer route home. I prayed the entire way. I keep up with my car maintenance with oil changes, etc. I even had the transmission fluid changed one year prior to this event. I had no prior issues, messages, symptoms, or other problems with this car prior to this event. It happened suddenly. I took the car to the dealership who initially told me the issue was a p0793 sensor and then a week later informed me that I needed a new transmission. I bought this car brand new, and it currently has 90,000 miles on it. Honda posted a bulletin in April 2021 they are aware that this make, and model has transmission issues, but because I am one year outside of the extended warranty, they are not willing to work with me.

2016 Honda Hr-v recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2016 Honda Hr-v.

2018-11-01
  • Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER
  • Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Acura MDX, 2017-2018 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda HR-V and Honda Odyssey, and 2016 Honda HR-V vehicles. The rear brake caliper pistons may have an insufficient coating, causing gas pockets to form, reducing brake performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
  • Consequence: A reduction of braking performance increases the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Owners will be notified, and Honda or Acura dealers will bleed the brakes, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C31 and L30.
2015-07-28
  • Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
  • Components: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
  • Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2016 HR-V vehicles manufactured January 12, 2015, to May 20, 2015. The affected vehicles may be missing the required tire placard indicating "Tire and Loading Information." These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 110, "Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less."
  • Consequence: If the tire placard is missing the driver or owner may not know at what pressure to inflate the tires, resulting in over or under tire inflation which potentially increases the risk of a tire failure and crash.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle, and apply a new label, free of charge. The recall began on September 18, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is JT2, or JT4.

Negative 2016 Honda Hr-v car reviews

Hi there! When I first got this Honda, I was really excited about how quiet, practical, and fuel-efficient it seemed. However, I've had a few issues with it lately - I've been stranded a few times and have had to call Honda Roadside Service multiple times in a day just to start the car. Since it's a new model, I think the mechanics might not be familiar with the electrical system yet. I'm not sure if I would buy another one, but I'm hoping to get this one running properly. If not, I might consider trading it in after only two years of use.

Hello! I recently purchased a 2016 HR-V and drove it all the way from Arizona to New York. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the navigation system during my trip. It gave me incorrect readings and maps/exits at highway interchanges multiple times, but once I passed the interchange, it would show the correct directions. I took my car to a local Honda dealer in NY, but they determined that the navigation system was working fine after a 10-mile test drive and refused to investigate further. I even contacted Honda Corporate, but they also stated that they would not be able to fix the issue. As a result, I am feeling quite frustrated with my brand new HR-V and disappointed that Honda is not willing to back up their product. Thank you for listening to my concerns.

As a loyal Honda customer who has purchased several new cars, including luxury models, I was disappointed when my new HRV started shaking and rattling shortly after purchase. The noise was so bad that it was embarrassing to drive with passengers in the car. Despite taking it to the dealership, they were unable to diagnose the issue and I had to wait for my first oil change to have it looked at again. The noise was coming from the front driver's side wheel well and the rear passenger door panel, and the car also creaked and squeaked when going over speed bumps or up a curb. This was not what I expected from Honda, and I was greatly disappointed. However, I am hopeful that the issue will be resolved and that Honda will continue to uphold their longstanding tradition of quality.

Positive 2016 Honda Hr-v car reviews

I've owned this vehicle since September 26, 2015. I opted for the 2016 EX model as it boasts some of the latest technology, including a sunroof and a large screen that provides practical instant information. Even after two years, I'm still pleased with its performance and handling, and I have to admit that it's all I need. I particularly enjoy the HR-V for its handling and easy entry and exit. Although I would have preferred leather seats, I purchased covers that match the interior and keep the seats clean. I use my smartphone for navigation, so I felt that I didn't need the next model up just to get leather and navigation. This little beauty has lots of features, and it provides a smooth ride with comfortable seats. The carpeting could be of better quality, but this is a minor distraction. Although I thought the engine could be a little bigger for more power, I have to admit that whether in the city or on the highway, this is all the power I need. I understand that this is a popular vehicle, and I heard that sales have doubled since Honda offered it for sale two years ago. It will be a very successful addition to Honda's fleet. I plan to drive mine for many years to come. One other note - I do wish that Honda would provide us with more insulation to provide a quiet cabin like Ford does. That is my only negative with Honda autos, well at least the CR-V and HR-V.

I chose this little SUV because I previously owned a jeep liberty and wanted a vehicle that still sat up off the ground a bit, had the storage of my jeep, and still felt sporty but was better on gas. There are a few things I absolutely love about this car. Firstly, the gas mileage is amazing. I live in Hawaii and although it's a small island, I still drive quite a bit and I only need to fill up once every two weeks, sometimes even longer. The seats sit up higher than a sedan, so I still feel like I can see my surroundings and it's pretty easy to get in and out of. Perfect combination! I also love how this car handles the road. It hugs every curve you go through and switches lanes with ease. The right side mirror has a side view camera on the radio, which I thought I would never use, but now I'm almost half dependent on it. I don't feel like there are too many blind spots when checking over my shoulders to switch lanes either, which is nice. The driver's side mirror doesn't come with the lane watch, but there is a small section already built in so you can see what's over there. The storage is great too. I love that I can choose to flip my rear seats up and they will stay that way as long as the bar is tucked down, allowing for way more space for taller objects. The back seats also fold down completely flat and make the entire trunk space get at least 1/3rd bigger. I'm about 5'10I'm not 18 anymore and don't care to have a 'system' in my car, but this little thing will give you just the right amount of bass if you desire it. The radio functions are super easy to figure out, and it's easy to pair Bluetooth with and customize the color scheme to your liking. The screen is also a touch screen and fairly sensitive, so you're not spending half of your time mashing your radio to get it to work. There are multiple charging options in this little car too, which can prove to be more amazing than not. If you just have a USB or an actual car charger, there's a place to plug your phone in about three total, and that's just the front. The rear backup camera sits low to the ground, so you can actually see where you're going and don't feel like you're backing up a truck, which I have seen in other cars. So, I personally feel more confident when using it. Although the backup camera is great, there are a few things I would improve on it. There's no beeping to indicate you're getting close to something. There are colors showing if you're in the clear or not, but a beep would be nice. Also, I've seen in other cars where it will help you back straight in, and your car won't be half sideways. Not the case with this camera. As long as your wheels are straight, it says you're straight. I would fix that. The headrests are also very comfortable; it's like they have been lined with memory foam almost. One of my favorite features. So now, some of the things I don't like or would change. This is a small car and isn't meant to go 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. If you're going up a hill and trying to get around a car super fast, you're going to tell your car isn't up for that, but other than that, I have no problem. It accelerates just fine to me other than getting up a hill super fast. The windshield is a little long for me, but then again, I'm coming from a jeep to a small SUV. And the last con would be the brake hold. I very, very rarely use it.It works as it's supposed to. Although I personally find it to be a useless feature, I still love my Honda. Even though I originally wanted a Mazda CX5, I'm happy with my decision. The car makes me feel safe and provides great visibility. I never feel the urge to speed, which is a good thing. Whether you're 16 and looking for your first car, 26 and in need of a family car, or 96 and looking for something more, the Honda HRV is a great choice. It's sporty enough for weekend adventures, yet safe and practical for everyone else. You won't be disappointed if you buy this car.

Hi there! I was really excited to see the release of this car last Spring, so I decided to wait and see it before making a decision on my new car purchase. I really like everything about it, but I've noticed that after driving it for a while, there seems to be some strange noises coming from the back seat on the driver's side. At first, I thought it might be the cargo I was carrying or perhaps the wheel and other stuff stored under, but I've checked and everything seems to be secure. It's a bit weird though, as it only seems to happen at low speeds under 35-40 mph. Even my passengers have noticed it. During the second week of having it, the wheels seemed to make some noise and drag, but it eventually stopped, so I didn't get it checked. I was expecting better quality from the Honda brand, especially in a brand new car! I see that I'm not alone, as the HR-V seems to have some noise issues after driving for a while. I've already received a recall notice, but unfortunately not for this issue. Have you experienced anything similar with your HR-V?

After driving my 2016 Honda HRV for seven and a half years and 38,000 miles, I can confidently say that it is one of the best cars I have ever owned. The subcompact exterior and SUV interior make it a versatile and practical choice, while the excellent acceleration and performance make it a joy to drive. I particularly enjoy the 6-speed manual transmission, which adds to the fun factor. The LX model is well-equipped and the audio and controls are easy to figure out. I have had no expenses other than routine maintenance at the dealership, which is a testament to the car's quality. It is also incredibly fuel-efficient and one of the best-looking SUVs on the road. I am disappointed that Honda and other car companies are eliminating manual transmission, as it adds to the driving experience. However, I still believe that the HRV is a true value for a quality car. While other brands may be more attractive to some, I have no interest in substituting my HRV for any other car. Thank you, Honda, for making such a great car!

  5. Jarrod Hickle 2024-11-01

I owned a sports car for almost a decade, but as my 66th birthday approached, it became increasingly difficult to get in and out of it. My son, who is an avid Honda fan and owner, did his homework and highly recommended this model for me. I fell in love with it at first ride. It is so much easier to get in and out of, and even though it is beefier than my Mazda, it takes up less space in my garage. New rides always take a while to get used to, but so far, I am enjoying every moment. My small dog always loved to stand between the seats with her front feet on the console. Now she feels like a queen, so high up. I was worried about her scratching the leather console, but a neoprene sleeve fits perfectly over the lid. I am looking forward to many adventures in my new HR-V.
