1995 Chrysler Lhs problems

The Chrysler LHS is a full-size luxury four-door sedan that was produced by Chrysler for the 1994 through the 2001 model years, with a one-year hiatus for 1998. It replaced the Chrysler Imperial and the Chrysler Fifth Avenue as the division's flagship model. The LHS was rebadged as the Concorde Limited for the 2002 model year.

First generation (1994–1997)

Introduced in May 1993 for the 1994 model year, the Chrysler LHS was the top of the line model for the division, as well as the most expensive of the Chrysler LH platform cars. All the LH-series models shared a 113.0-inch (2,870 mm) wheelbase and were developed using Chrysler's new computer drafting system.

The car was differentiated from the division's New Yorker sedan by its bucket leather seats (the New Yorker had a bench seat) and standard features such as alloy wheels that were options on the New Yorker. Further differences between the Chrysler LHS and its New Yorker counterpart were a floor console and shifter, five-passenger seating, lack of chrome trim, an upgraded interior, and a sportier image. From the 1996 model year on the New Yorker was dropped in favor of a six-passenger option on the LHS. The LHS received a minor face change in 1995 when the corporate-wide Pentastar emblem was replaced with the revived Chrysler brand emblem.

Standard features of the LHS included a 3.5 L EGE 24-valve 214 hp (160 kW; 217 PS) V6 engine, body-colored grille, side mirrors and trim, traction control, aluminum wheels, integrated fog lights, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, premium sound systems with amplifiers, and automatic temperature control. Unlike the New Yorker, leather seats were standard.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2005-11-08
  • VIN: 2C3HC56F5SH
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: I WAS HAVING SOME UNEVEN AND PREMATURE FRONT TIRE WEAR PROBLEMS. I THOUGHT THAT THE INNER TIE ROD BUSHINGS WERE SIMPLY WORN OUT. I FOUND OUT INSTEAD THAT ONE OF THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE INNER TIE ROD ENDS TO THE STEERING RACK HAD ACTUALLY SHEARED/ BROKEN, AND THIS WAS ALLOWING THE EXCESSIVE SLOP IN THE STEERING. OBVIOUSLY, IF THE BOLT WOULD HAVE SHEARED ALL THE WAY OFF, SUDDEN AND CATASTROPHIC (POSSIBLY DEADLY) LOSS OF STEERING WOULD HAVE OCCURRED, WITHOUT WARNING. IN ORDER TO REMOVE/EXTRACT THE BROKEN BOLT, THE STEERING RACK HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM THE CAR TO FACILITATE ACCESS TO THE BROKEN BOLT WITH AN EXTRACTOR. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE 6 HOURS OF LABOR JOB, TO REPAIR A SIMPLE BROKEN BOLT. NOT ONLY IS IT RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, THIS IS AN ITEM (THE TIE ROD TO STEERING RACK BOLT) THAT SHOULD NEVER BREAK FROM NORMAL USAGE OF THE AUTOMOBILE. I SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND FROM ON-LINE RESEARCH THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM IN THE CHRYSLER LH PLATFORM CARS. ALSO, THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY CONSUMER COMPLAINTS, AND SEVERAL LAWSUITS DUE TO ALLEGED DEFECTIVE DESIGN, INSUFFICIENT SERVICE/INSPECTION PROCEDURES, OR MATERIALS, RELATING DIRECTLY TO THE LH PLATFORM STEERING, INCLUDING SEVERE ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY THIS IDENTICAL FAILURE. ALSO COMPLAINTS OF CHRYSLER OFFERING NO ASSISTANCE TO THE CONSUMER (INCLUDING ME) IN REGARDS TO THIS VERY DANGEROUS (AND EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR) DEFECT. *JB

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2005-02-16
  • VIN: 2C3HD56F9SH
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: I EXPERIENCED A LOUD CLUNKING SOUND WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. ALSO WHEN I DROVE OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT OR AN UNEVEN ENTRY TO A DRIVEWAY I COULD HEAR THE SAME SOUND AND COULD FEEL IT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD A DEALERSHIP CHECK IT OUT AND THEY FOUND THAT THERE WAS A BOLT THAT HAD WORKED ITSELF LOOSE ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARM. I HAVE FOUND INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET RELATED TO STEERING FAILURES LEADING TO DEATH ON SEVERAL VEHICLES WITH THE SAME STEERING COMPONENTS THAT MY CAR HAS. FORTUNATELY I CAUGHT THIS EARLY ENOUGH TO PREVENT A DISASTEROUS EVEN LIKE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED. THEY TIGHTENED THE BOLT. I UNDERSTANT THAT CHRYSLER CORPORATION HAS CHANGED THE TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS AND THE BUSHING USED ON THE TIE-ROD ENDS IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE TYPE OF FAILURES THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED. Negative 1995 Chrysler Lhs car reviews

  1. Heber Senger 2024-11-13

I really like this car overall. It's a pleasure to drive and very comfortable inside. The power is good and gas mileage is acceptable. Although, the mechanicals have left something to be desired. The A/C has been replaced three times and is currently out of commission. The transmission has also been replaced once. If the A/C and transmission were fixed, the car would be a 10.

  2. Devyn Schmidt 2024-10-14

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my car, which I purchased as a left-over and have driven for over 125K miles. Overall, I have enjoyed owning this car. I have had a few repairs over the years, including the front suspension clunking at 3000 miles (which was covered by warranty), the Infinity CD player quitting around 40K miles (which the company would not fix or replace, but the dealer suggested buying a new CD player), and the AC needing repair twice. Unfortunately, the front end clunking started again at 80K miles and the wiring harness melted at 120K miles, which was a costly repair for a car that is worth $2000. Currently, the transmission is not functioning properly and I am not willing to pay the $3000 repair cost. Despite these issues, I still have positive feelings towards my car and the memories we have shared together.

  3. Gregory Reilly 2024-09-16

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned you purchased this car new and have had to spend over $14,000 in repairs since then. It sounds like you've had to replace quite a few parts, including the transmission which has been rebuilt three times, the AC, cooling system, timing belt, water pump, paint, trim, power windows and locks, fuel system, weatherstripping, headlights, windshield wipers, struts, strut bushings, brakes, and power antenna. That's quite a list! Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience with the car?

  4. Madison Hagenes 2024-09-08

This is a gorgeous, stylish, roomy, and comfortable vehicle that is sure to turn heads. However, I have experienced some issues with it in the past 6 months, including problems with the A/C compressor, compression failure in injector #1, a failed driver's side window motor, excessive wear on the tie rods and inner bushings (even though the rack was replaced just 1.5 years ago), and excess distortion in the rear brake rotors (which could have been prevented with higher-end brakes). Despite these issues, I still enjoy riding in it and would recommend it to others.

  5. Karl Goldner 2024-07-18

Nice car inside and out! The leather is so comfortable and the interior is huge. I bought the car with 103000 miles and now it has 160000. While I have had to put more money into this car than all of my other ones combined, I still appreciate its unique features. Repairs are expected on high mileage cars, but I have found that this car has required more attention than most.

Positive 1995 Chrysler Lhs car reviews

  1. Emilio Gottlieb 2025-01-04

Our 94 LHS has been a reliable and comfortable family car for us. While there have been some minor issues such as fuel economy and peeling paint on the trim and rims, we have been able to deal with them easily. Although the A/C is not working, we are fortunate to live in Washington state where it is not a necessity. We purchased the car for only $1200 in '06 and have been able to maintain it well with regular maintenance, brake and tire replacements. It has been a great investment for us, costing only $25/month over the past 48 months. It is a car that has served us well and we plan to continue driving it until it is no longer feasible. It has been a great value for our family, costing no more than 20% of our income.

  2. Clair Keeling 2025-01-04

I purchased this car back in August 1998 when it had 75k miles on it. Since then, it has covered over 161k miles and I must say, I absolutely adore it. The interior is spacious and perfect for my family, who are all quite tall. We always choose the LHS for our trips because even a 6-foot person can comfortably fit in the front or back seats. The trunk is also quite large and comes with a full spare tire hidden inside. You should definitely take it for a spin, I'm sure you'll love it! The leather seats are very comfortable and the control panels are easy to use. I also appreciate the feature that tells me how many miles I have left until I'm on empty. Of course, with 161k miles, I have had to do some maintenance, but nothing too extreme - just the basics like tie-rod ends, A/C compressor, brakes, tires, timing belt, and other routine maintenance.

  3. Tomas Marquardt 2024-09-07

Stylish car, very responsive, and a fantastic ride.

  4. Tyree Gulgowski 2024-08-16

Having a car is so much fun!

  5. Adalberto Legros 2024-07-05

I purchased this vehicle in like new condition inside and out with 89K miles. The interior is beautiful and has amenities too numerous to mention. The seating is very spacious and the soft glove leather seats are very comfortable, with lots of head and leg room. The exterior styling still seems current and not boxy. The trunk is enormous, you could throw in a cot and rent it out!
